Been there twice. Had the Marie's Special pizza both times because hey, it was good the first time. Greek salad is not bad either. Wait staff can be a little on the slow side but this place oozes charm out of every corner. Fantastic local business that I love to support. Haven't tried the delivery yet but we will when it gets colder.

The live jazz trio that played for us was insanely talented.

All of their pizza is thin crust.  On the menu they offer a double crust which is just, a slightly thicker, thin crust pizza.  When I was younger I remembered the pizza fondly, in my adult life the pizza is just as good as a frozen pie from Jewels. (Though not as awesome as Culinary circle brand)
I met a friend for a pie the other day, we ordered the garlic bread to start which looked and tasted plastic, half of the order just sat till we told them to take it away.  The pizza could've used a bit more sauce, when we asked for a small side of pizza sauce for dipping the waitress wasn't very happy about having to go get it, rightfully so since it was a busy afternoon and they were understaffed.  She brought out some random marinara which didn't taste well with their pizza.  You my like to ask your server for a bit more sauce on your pie, if you like me are a sauce fiend.  Pizza was just okay, in retrospect I think we should've gone for the lunch pizza special which is priced under $7 bucks and sounds like a great deal.  Decor and laid back attitude of the place will send you on a trip back to the 70s.
A thin crust pizza lover may like to try a pie and those loving dough wouldn't care for it much.  Nothing has seemed to change much here over the years.

First off it's a restaurant attached to a liquor store, you gotta go, not many of these in the city.  Anyhow, I am always interested in a good pizza place and good liquor stores so I figured I had to check it out.  I did a u-turn on Lawrence Avenue and parked.

It's at a light on a corner and there's a cool window setting, a guy in the window actually making pizza.  Very cool, seems like the old days. So I go in the liquor store and it's not bad, but not the greatest either, in the middle I'd say.  Seemed like lots of Eastern European influences by the beer selection with many Polish, German and Czech beers available.

So I go into the restaurant....which by the way, you can only get into by going through the liquor store and I am taken in the wayback machine.  Step back in time once again to that late 70's disco era with red shag(or whatever it is) on the walls, red booths, fancy chandeliers and a band...yes a band playing in the corner.  Playing Sinatra in fact.

So I grab a seat at the bar and settle in peeking back and admiring the pizza guy.  I order a sausage pizza and a beer.  Beer selection isn't the greatest with your standard fare...I meant to ask if I could grab a beer out of the liquor cooler and bring it over, will have to try that one on the next trip.

The pizza arrives piping hot, oozing of cheese and just waiting to be devoured.  I LOVE this pizza.  Is it the best Chicago pizza I've ever had, no, but it is pretty good for what it is.  A hearty greasy thin crust pizza made fresh for you by the window guy.  I'm definitely going back and bringing friends along for the experience.  Everyone should come to this place at least once.

OMG! This place is the best. I have only been here for lunch and it's always pretty empty. I hear that at dinner it can get packed and I understand why. This is seriously the best pizza in the city. It is as this as a piece of paper and the perfect amount of ingredients. The Best part is the older gentleman who stands n the front making pizza. He is the best and from what I understand he has been there forever and it shows. He has perfected his craft. I also always get the fried ravioli which is great. The price is so reasonable and they now have a stimulous package which is a great value. With all that said I haven't even mentioned the best part. The decor of this place is like no other. There is no good way to describe the decor...you just have to see it. I always think a lounge singer should be right behind me. I love this place!!!!

Oh, Marie's  - what happened to you???? I used to be a DIEHARD fan and tonight's experience blew me away -  in a BAD way.
When ordering our pizza, we usually request an extra crisp, well done crust.  We picked our pie up and got home only to discover a HALF BAKED pizza. A soft doughy,  white crust!!! So, I called up Marie's and told them we wanted a new pizza to our specifications - let alone fully baked. They promised to deliver a new one. An hour and half later, driver shows up and then proceeds to charge us for delivery . Seriously, you are going to charge me more money to get what we originally ordered?  We open up the box and what do we see, a HALF BAKED PIZZA , soggy and a lily white crust . AGAIN!
Good bye Marie's .

Just ate there last night with my girlfriend.  First off, ONE OF A KIND scene there.  Just awesome - old school chandeliers dangling above, red leather booths, cubs games playing above the small bar with locals just ranting about politics.  Service is great.  Love the classic looking menu.  The pizza, however (we had the special), was good but surprisingly small.  We ordered a large and left hungry (and we're average size).  Pizza was good, not great.

In SUM: definitely recommend a dinning in there.  Get a salad or appetizer if you order pizza, you might need it.  Pizza goes down well with a cold bottle of Old Style.

Gaudy chandeliers? Check.
Mirrored murals of the city of chicago? Check.
Cavernous luxury atmosphere reminiscent of Scorsesi's  living room in the 70's minus the shag carpet? YES!
Giant liquor store attached? Si. Si.
Did I mention they have the best thin-crust pizza in all of Chicago? THEY DO! Screw that deep dish crap. That's just fancy bread. This is pizza how it should be. Thin crusted, cheesy, crusty edged goodness.

Added bonus: they give you a coupon to the liquor store when you're done so you can get your dessert of a bottle of vodka and some crappy belly-bustin' mixer. Double-whammy.

GO.

Several friends had recommened this place, but every time I drove past it, I thought - "They must be high.". The outside looks like a neglected mob front business (pizza and liquor store combo?) and I've never had the courage to step foot inside.

However, once I had their pizza delivered, boy howdy was I a convert. I don't care how skeezy it looks from the outside, the super thin crust pizza is totally delish. Cracker thin crust and a slightly sweet sauce that has a whif of booze (beer? wine?) and good honest chunks of sausage, onions and peppers. (Skip the mushrooms; they're canned.) The large is not as big as most places', so don't expect it to feed more than two people. Its not a crazy pants thought to get 1 medium per person.

Did I mention they also DELIVER BOOZE?!? Why did my pals not mention THAT right away? So if you'd like a bottle of wine, six pack of beer, or a case of Jack Daniels with your pie; you're in luck. Instant party.

ZERO STARS-----This review is for the BAR & Obnoxiously Fake Tanned, Bartender ONLY! I have eaten here several times, and the service in the dining room has been NOTHING less than exceptional. Delivery----Once again, FAST & FRIENDLY! Liquor store----yes, always reasonably priced & friendly, helpful employees.

Being a cold, rainy, snowy, sleeting Sunday, Wifey & I thought it would be a good day to lounge, and be lazy bar rats----So, craving great pizza, Maries was our choice. Upon entering, we sat at an empty bar with 3 patrons, one who had 2 cocktails in front of him, and eyes closed. Obviously, not a challenge to tend bar with this crowd, right?  Oh, just wait----Here comes MUTE, TAN MAN, Bartender extraordinaire!!! There was No "Hello"  no "Welcome to Maries" No, just an aged, obnoxiously fake tanned MUTE Bartender with the personality and IQ level of an injured gerbil.

We asked for a pitcher----"couldn't do it" says the MUTE (A Struggle to speak and be personable) Mystic Tan spokesperson Bartender. Okay, what are the specials? "None" We ordered our food----through the lone server, since MUTE Bartender was occupied rubbing his tan hands through the freshly permed locks.

After ordering, I noticed a sign that read "Sunday Domestic Buckets $10." I blame myself for not being more attentive.

After eating, and waiting approx. 15 minutes to flag down TAN MAN, we asked for a togo box and our check. The MUTE, overly tanned, couldn't tend bar if I tried, personality & IQ of an injured gerbil employee responds "$30.00" No itemized receipt, nothing but, "$30." I knew there was NO WAY IN HELL OUR TAB WAS $30. Instead of causing a scene, I just tipped him accordingly----take the "under" on this one!

I will NEVER sit at the bar in Maries, EVER AGAIN. Yes, their pizza is outstanding, and they obviously have employees that go above and beyond their job description, but this fucking NO PERSONALITY MUTE, who blatantly over charges and doesn't give itemized receipts has co$t Maries my business----at least, in the bar. ---Oh yeah, NO "Thank You" or please "Come Again" upon leaving. I guess the economy hasn't had an effect on TAN MAN?

*I hope a Manager or Owner reads this review-----Bad economy---There are WAY too many bars / restaurants to patronize these days w/o having to endure this kind of pathetic service!!!!!

Ahh the 31st review: one for every year I have been alive. We are becoming quite the regulars on Saturday and Sunday afternoons before Wolves games at the Allstate Arena. Hop off the #81 and into Marie's for at least an hour worth of Marie's Special thin crust and a pitcher, tho sometimes this drags into 8 hours and free rounds of whiskey and cokes. Booths, mirror etching, easy listening on an early Sunday morning, attached liquor store.
It's worth the trip, not that Marie's need any more people, but tip the waitresses and bartenders well, collect your 10% off coupon for the store next door and enjoy.

Amazing thin crust. Some of the best in the city.  I love it!

My ONLY complaints... (which are tiny):

-The mushrooms are canned, not fresh. Skip the mushrooms!

-14" is their largest pizza!  WAAAY  too small! With pizza this thin and delicious, my boyfriend can eat a whole large on his own. We won't make that mistake again! Now we order 2!

I suggest dining in for the total experience. Pick up a 12 pack on your way out.

Super friendly staff! I love Maries!!

Just had Marie's thin crust pizza...and it is now one of my faves!  Pretty much all I had, a thin crust pizza with sausage and mushrooms.  It was one of the best thin crusts I've had in awhile.  I will definitely go back to Marie's!

Overall, good food, reasonable prices, okay service.

I've been quasi-obsessed with this pizza for the last six months. It is super, super thin - very unusual for Chicago - with a sweet sauce that reminds me of the pizza I grew up with in the far South Suburbs from Homewood's Aurelio's (before it became a chain). Maybe some of the best drunk food in the city right now and, if you happen to go in, an amazing time travel back to the Chicago of the 1970's with giant red vinyl booths, dark lighting and a liquor store attached to the restaurant.

How have I not reviewed this place?

The pizza is pretty good, definitely not the best but it's good. If you decide to dine in you have to walk through the liquor store in order to get into the restaurant. I always thought that was kind of neat. The interior is all red and REALLY old school looking (after reading the reviews below I agree with someone who said it looks like something out of a David Lynch movie. Perhaps the red room from Twin Peaks??). The servers are nice, I've always had a pleasant experience.

If you decide to order delivery (which we usually do), it comes quickly and they deliver alcohol! The delivery driver that we get has to seriously be on drugs because he is a total mess, but I don't care- they deliver me beer!! I'm so glad they are nearby.

My parents once told me a story about when they were dating, they went to this new, hip supper club where my father got to drink a Manhattan for the first time and my mother had her chair pulled out for her by the Maitre d.  They thought it was the greatest thing ever. They were in their early 20's and this was the mid-1960's, so I guess the "little things" were more impressive back then, huh!

Walking into Marie's the other night I felt like I was instantly transported back to that time.  Bright, screaming red vinyl upholstery, mirrors and crystal chandeliers everywhere, and a wacky faux stained glass ceiling over the bar in a rose pattern.  It was as if time had stopped somewhere in 1967 and never started up again.  One of the customers had a big poufy blonde bouffant hairstyle and my flat, straight hairstyle somehow seemed instantly out of place.  So retro fabulous!

The place was hopping for 6:30 but we were given a booth almost instantly after our drinks at the bar arrived (vodka gimlet for me, Jim Beam and coke for the old man. Both were excellently prepared drinks)

We ordered the "double crust" pizza, which we found out was a thicker, chewier version of a cracker crust.  It was the closest so far to the New York style I so love and search for endlessly around here.  This was really, really, fine pizza.  And great prices as well.  Not 1967 good, but you get the idea.

I love how there is a liquor store attached to the restaurant and if you buy wine from them, the restaurant staff will go get it, bring it to you, and serve it, all for only $2.50.  Plus the staff was insanely nice and personable.  BF was chatting it up with a guy in the liquor store and came out with a bottle of Ernie Banks wine.  He said the guy loved this stuff and recommended it highly.  I was convinced he had been had and we were going to be drinking vinegar later.  But the guy had been right - holy hell who knew Mr. Cub was down with the fine wine.  Excellent recommendation!

So I now know how that night must have felt to my parents all those years ago.  This is a big city place with a definite small town feel to it.  They offer take out as well as delivery, but trust me, you will want to dine in for this experience!

When we first moved into our new place, we were exhausted and decided to order a large thin-crust pepperoni and garlic pizza from here.  It was delicious!  I love how thin the crust is, especially the crunchy edges.  They serve super thin crust pizza, not the usual thin crust you may be used to.  My only complaint is minor - the pizza isn't that large, so we should've ordered two (yeah, we like to eat!).  I will definitely try eating in the restaurant next time.  There is a liquor store right next door so you can easily pick up a pizza and grab some drinks on your way out.

11/24:  We finally ate in the restaurant and had a great meal.  As noted by others, the interior has that old school charm, with bright red vinyl booths and decor from another era.  We had a house salad (with anchovies on the side, mmm) and a sausage thin crust pizza.  The pizza was cut into squares (very Chicago) and I loved the cracker-like crispy edges.  At the end of the meal, the waitress gave us coupons for the attached liquor store next door.  Niiiiiice.
Marie's is a neighborhood gem and we'll definitely be back.

12/15:  We ate here again and the Christmas decorations are quite elaborate!  A must see for those who haven't eaten in the restaurant yet.  We ordered the fried appetizer combo, a sausage & pepperoni pizza, and a spinach pizza.  The food was great as always.

This place blew me away.  The people who ran this joint were so much fun, and the food was top notch.
When you walk into the restaurant, it looks like 1971 threw up all over it.  I expected Greg Brady to walk in with the Johnny Bravo suit on.  The only thing that was missing was the Lava Lamps and a Pet rock at every table.
Even though our Waitress looked like Flo, from Mel's diner, she did a wonderful job serving us, and the pizza was pretty darn good.
We did the Ground beef and Garlic.  The crust was golden brown and the pie was a bit singed, but tasted great.
If you are looking for a laid back, back to the future experience, this is the place for you.  You might even find that weird lamp that your mother had hidden in the basement when you grew up.

I have lived near this place for a long time but have never gone in or ordered their pizza..  Tonight the kids wanted Pizza and I thought it would be cool to try something new.  I called and ordered, I went to go pick it up.  It was very confusing since the line was right at the door and everyone was towering over me so I could not see where I was supposed to go or get even close to the bar to catch the attention of one of the barmaids or waitresses...  I finally get thru and get my pizza's..
the pizza was very tasty and thin and left big grease stains on the box.  I would eat it again, maybe try some other ingredients other than sausage.  and wow that place is really 70ish like everyone said.

Yummy!  The flavor was good.  I was expecting a crispier crust for some reason but the crust is for sure NY style - foldable.  My friend from Long Island enjoyed the pizza so I think that is good.  We will request wedge cuts in the future so we can fold it properly.

I've gotten delivery 1x - prompt and efficient - and picked up another time.  The place reminds me of this great bakery/restaurant in Portland, OR that is now closed - Rose's.  Plush red vinyl booths and an enormous (and ugly, IMHO) chandelier in the back room.  Lovely long bar with more vinyl, this time as the bumper and bar stools.  I would definitely go there to dine in as well - has a very comfortable vibe.  I could see taking my family there.  I dropped in during the afternoon and there were a couple tables with several generations of pizza lovers - seems like a good thing to me.

We had our company Christmas party here this year. This is a combination liquor store/Italian restaurant next door, which makes it unique. You walk in through an automatic door like any supermarket. On your left are aisles with wine and other liquor. To your right is the entrance to the restaurant.

The interior decor is very old-looking with fake wood paneling and tabletops that look like aged copper cladding. Painted maidens on the mirrors along the back wall are beginning to fade. This is the fancy Italian restaurant your mom and dad probably liked about 30 years ago. At Christmas time, they go overboard with what may be the largest array of foil decorations suspended in dense clusters from the ceiling .

Their best offering is their thin crust pizza, which I've had a few times before. Now I'm not a big fan of thin crust, but there is something great about theirs in particular that I can't stop eating it. The edges of the pizza are crunchy and those are my favorites. While others take from the middle, I work the perimeter of the round pizza, even taking the little triangular edge pieces with no cheese on them.

And if you order a pitcher of Coke, the drink comes in a pitcher, but the ice is in a separate carafe. This prevents the drink from getting too diluted at the bottom. I thought that was pretty clever.

For the BYOB crowd, here's how to pull it off. With the restaurant & liquor store concept in mind, you buy the wine next door, bring it to the restaurant and show the receipt. They only charge $2.50 for corkage and you enjoy your bottle of wine.

I've been warned by others who've eaten here before that the liquor store side has been robbed a few times. But don't let that stop you from trying this place.

You'd be surprised.

I was not too excited about walking into this liquor store/pizzeria.  From the outside, it doesn't look like much.  I began to prepare myself for mediocre pizza and crummy service.  As I moved through the liquor store into the restaurant, I entered the dimly lit room where we were told we could seat ourselves.

The server was really nice, actually.  She made excellent suggestions, and she was able to recall the drink menu off the top of her head.  The live band playing soft music helped me ease into the atmosphere, though it was a little strange going into a mixture of fancy restaurant/ sports bar/ dive bar.  I began to feel comfortable.

When I SAW the pizza, I didn't think much of it.  However, it was AMAZING.  It was probably some of the best thin-crust pizza I have ever had.  Even the bussers seemed unnecessarily nice.

This place is definitely worth your time and money, but you won't realize it until you eat the food.

Oh Marie's, how I knew you so vell! I used to vork there back in 1989 - 1992 and have plenty of stories (good & bad) of the place. (Yeah, I'm old...you vill be too one day.) For the most part it vas a decent restaurant...food vas good, staff vas nice (including me) and even Santa Claus used to make an appearance at Christmastime...Ho Ho Cannoli! Just vatch out for the low hanging holiday decorations that can put an eye out or two. (I know vhy I vore glasses back then.) The pizza vas a bit on the greasy side though.

I vent back to Marie's in 2005 just for old times sake and it looks EXACTLY the same as I remember, except for the various flat screen televisions they installed on the valls. The vaitress ve had vas even the same one I vorked vith back then! Man, vhat a time varp! Vhere vas Rod Serling?

We tend to go in on Monday nights and sit at the bar: specials are $2 import beers (hoo-ray) and 40-cent wings, which you can order hot or mild (I say get the hot, others with whom I dine are wimps).  The thin pizza is quite delish (GREAT crispy crust), if a little greasy: probably not the best the next day, but wonderful right out of the oven (don't know that I'd have it delivered, either).  Other menu items are hit-and-miss (the Italian beef sandwich was thoroughly mediocre).  Cool retro interior (gold-glass lighting and over-the-top red vinyl banquettes, anyone?), and a full-service, cheap liquor store attached.  It's one-stop shopping.

This place has the best pizza I have ever tasted.  It's not comparable to anywhere else.  The only thing that anyone could possibly complain about its the size of the pizza.  They run small, but it's alright because the prices are good too.  All in all, this is a great place.

When I first moved to Albany Park 5 years ago I heard about Marie's.  After going there I was so unimpressed and never went back.

Just recently I went back to Marie's and had a great pizza along with fantastic service, not to mention cheap beer!

Hamm's, PBR and Schlitz all under $4.00/six pack.

I resubmit Marie's a damn good neighborhood joint.  Plus they have great specials throughout the week like $2.00 beer and 30 cent wings.

MmmMarie's!

I prefer Sano's pizza a few blocks west, but It is quit an informal place that does not serve liquor, has no waitstaff and you never know if it will be open.
For a nice, inexpensive evening out with your favorite dining companion Marie's is a wonderful choice. The waitstaff is prompt, and super friendly. I agree the decor is a bit passed its fashionable prime, but it reminds me of a weird David Lynch film. I hope they never change a thing. I have found every entree I've ordered to be very good.
It's quite unique to see all of the pizza's to be made in the corner of the dining area by the window. This is a separate area for making the pizza only, and is visible to folks walking down the sidewalk. Nice touch!
I agree with Mike O., I always eat the edges of the pizza first. Darn good crust.

This place is old school Italian. All the servers have probably smoked since age 5, but they will totally treat you like family. I mainly do delivery from this place and I always get the sausage pizza. Be warned that their definition of a large pizza is about the size of a traditional medium. This place always sizes down for some reason. My family has been getting thin crust pizza from here since I was in the womb! They also have a liquor store attached and they kill in on the alcohol, but don't shine with their beer stock. They also have a regular sit down area with booths and tables. If you want to feel at home here in the city, this is a great place to spend some time.

I love this place. It's inexpensive, laid back and everything on the menu has cheese as an ingredient as far as I can tell. The pizza is a little greasey but that is a plus on those hungover early afternoons. Also the liquor store its connected to has Powers Irish whiskey which is about as hard to find as it is great.

This is one of the things I miss most when it coems to Albany Park.

Last night we really wanted good wings AND pizza.   Most places that deliver to us have one or the other.  I took a gamble and tried Marie's.  It was a wise choice and I have the feeling we will be calling again soon.  The pizza has a super think crust, it was a little greasy -but it hit the spot.  The wings weren't super hot, but they were super tasty with a generous side of ranch.  Oh, and they deliver wine and beer, that can always come in handy.

the pizza is ok. edible basically.  i have to try a few more things from here but i will update my review when i do. the delivery driver is really weird. and by weird i mean talks too much and he's brought me the wrong beer and forgot to run my credit card and expected me to have cash for him when he got there. i just find him a little creepy.

the reason i like this place - THEY DELIVER ALCOHOL!!

My absolute favorite pizza! If I had to chose a last meal, I want a thin crust pizza from Marie's! I have been going here for 24 years and its never been less than delicious.  HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

We live about two blocks form this place and have been coming here for years. It's a historical place in the Mayfair community. The decor is 70's and it's a mom and pop owned restaurant. Everyone knows everyone. It's always packed and the service there is great. We've tried almost everything there. Their half pound bacon cheeseburger there is awesome! On the other hand, their pizza is good but not great. It's a hit or miss for this place. Depending on who's making it and who's monitoring it. One day you might have the perfect pizza and the next time it's all burnt at the bottom and has little toppings. I can't really complain about Marie's but I had better pizza at other places.

I've ordered Marie's twice and have enjoyed it both times. Good crispy crust, a heaping of toppings, not too much cheese, and a decent sauce. Plus...they deliver BOOZE. Can't get much better than pizza and booze in one swoop. The only things that detract were the fact that they use canned mushrooms (GROSS) and that on my second time ordering the person who took my order was rude. Plus, despite my many requests, they never send me a menu with my meal...I'm still in the dark about what else I could order!

Ok, so besides the only thin crust pizza in chicago that I ate and enjoyed and wanted more of, can we please discuss the decor? Sooo all-inclusive of probably every decade of the restaurant's existence. There was a fake rock wall from the late 50's, 70's paneling, 60's and 80's light fixtures....can't wait for what the new millenium might bring to this joint! We had a b-day party for about 40 of us there last night. The staff was accommodating, jovial, and the food was just what you might expect.  And it was good.  And $3 for a good but small martini? Excellent!

The only place my wife and I will go for thin-crust pizza in Chicago.  Awesome interior decor that looks unchanged from the mid-1970's.  Pleasant service and very reasonably priced.

Ordered delivery a couple nights ago.  One hour later and we had an overpriced, semi-burnt, thin crust pizza.  Underwhelming at best, won't order from there again, I've got to believe that there's got to be dozens of better places for pizza (at least I hope so!).

This is my second favorite pizza in Chicago. Great thin crust. If there is a game you need to catch, there are flatscreens in eyeshot. I like the fact that you can go in the liquor store pick out a bottle of wine and bring it in.

Marie's has some of the best pizza that I have ever had.  I love the fact that they are a liquor store as well.  I consider it a one-stop-shop for all of your weekend needs.  I eat here quite often with my girlfriend and we typically order a large pizza with extra cheese, extra sauce, and garlic, the appatizer sampler (fried mushrooms, zucchini, and mozzarella sticks), and a couple pitchers of Blue Moon and the bill comes out to less than $40.  What a deal for such a delicious feast!  They offer both thin crust and double-dough pizza.  Both are awesome.  You can't go wrong here.
