8 reviews for Marco's Family Restaurant
This was a cute little place and I was happy and lucky to be introduced to it. I owe it all to a new yelper, Dianna, who promised me a tour of IB in return for lunch.
Ultimately, there was nothing exceptional about the place, which is precisely what made it so nice. You can just feel the established, family run vibe -- underscored by the plastic grapes hanging from the ceiling and the kitchy murals on the walls. (Okay, Dianna says she likes the paintings ... but what does she know?) The fact that this Italian family restaurant is run by a Mexican couple is testament to what's great about this place and what's great about America.
Anyway, if you're ever in IB, check this place out. In a world (and a neighborhood) where the Olive Gardens and other corporate shit holes are quickly taking over, places like Marco's Family Restaurant can use all the help they can get.
This place was crap. I was a member of Lisa's party when they took me here for my birthday. The drink prices are ridiculous. A poorly stocked bar with an incompetent bartender. They still charged us when they got our drink orders wrong. They charge $13.00 for doubles using bottom shelf liquor! Clearly, the dunces who own this joint have Imperial Beach confused with Gaslamp. Also, they charge $6.50 - $7.50 for singles that contain mediocre alcohol. Ask for Maker's Mark or Wild Turkey and you'll get Jim Beam or Jack Daniel's. Want Captain Morgan? You're lucky if you get Sailor Jerry.
Another problem is that for a steak house, nobody knows how to CUT STEAK in that entire establishment! The waitresses were cutting out tri-tips WITH THE GRAIN. The food was cold when it arrived and took hours for them to prepare. They were probably trying to get us to purchase their overpriced drinks! If you have a large party, do yourself a favor and save yourself $500.00 by staying away from this embarrassment of an establishment. Go to P.B. and get a free vegetarian meal at the Hare Krishna temple. You may have to listen to a sermon and the food has no meat, but I guarantee you'll get a better prepared meal there than at this sorry joint.
I pee on this place!
I know this is an IB institution, but are you serious?
Took the small fry here tonight for dinner. As it turns out, there are multiple choices in seating areas. We sat in the front and froze our butts off. The server was nice but forgot things multiple times. The two old guys who sat in the booth 15 feet away, dropping f-bombs were not especially kid-friendly either.
Let's get to the food. THAT was sauce? Shame on you! One would fare better opening a can of Ragu! OMG! I make a mean meat sauce (slow-cooked on the stove all day) so I know I am comparing it harshly, but this was not even passable. It had no taste or texture. Just burnt, nasty, tomato paste.
HOW HAVE THESE GUYS STAYED IN BUSINESS LONG ENOUGH TO NEED MORE ROOM?
I love thier creamy spagetti primavera! That's about all I have ever ordered each time I came in and honestly next time I'm in SD I'm definately stopping in to get my creamy spagetti!! It's THAT good!!
The service was always really good and they deliver!! I miss this place!!!
A small family own restaurant that's been in IB for over 30 years. The services is always excellent and welcoming. The pizza is good and this coming for a girl who doesn't really care for pizza. My favorite dishes tend to be the spaghetti Carbonara and the gnocchi both are always delicious. And one of the wonderful things about this place is that all dinner entrees include antipasto, soup, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. But don't worry if you aren't that hungry you can just do it a la carte which is what I normally do.
I have been eating at Marco's most of my life, the service is good, the spagetti is awsome.... the pizza isn't bad either..... they have just moved into a larger building (the old Red Hawk Steak House) a little more room a little more comfortable .... I am eating lunch from their now and am thinking about eating dinner here tonight also.... well worth a try out.
