10 reviews for Marc by Marc Jacobs - Men's Store
"I'm totally changing the subject, you stank ho, but did you hear about the new line at Marc Jacobs??"
"Oh my pilates! What new line?!"
"It's a bunch of ratty v-necks where the V gets deeper and deeper until you finally get to the U.G.U. where the V is SO deep that people are going to think you're totally wearing an unbuttoned cardigan!!"
"Oh goodness glinda, I have to check it out! Is it the Marc collection by Marc for Marc Jacobs presented by Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs in association with Jacobs by March Jacobs??"
"No, you silly plastic whore, the line is for Marc by Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs for the Marc Jacobs Collection!"
"Oh dear diaries!"
"I know right?"
"I'd SO do him!"
"I know right???"
Marc Jacobs, the designer of signature fashion collections in New York and those of the French luxury label Louis Vuitton in Paris, is one of the most prolific and provocative forces in global fashion. His designs set the standard for what fashion will do next year.
I'm usually not a fan of diffusion lines(CHAPS = Couldn't Have A Polo Sport) but Marc by Marc Jacobs always comes through. Casual and comfortable at the highest level, with great threads for any type of style. Whether you're a trend setter, cool kid, or going out to club that night, Marc got something for you.
The store is pretty small and is usually crowded but they are open until 10 PM. I literally came here before they closed, brought a pair of sneakers and put them on to go to Griffin. Like I said before, they have something for any type of event.
Made a point of visiting this store today . Walked out of my way to visit . When I entered the store I was the only customer inside. No greeting. So I said hello in a very friendly way to the only employee in the place. Just ignored me. I then asked about some boots in the window. Barely a word. I was frightened by his coldness and left. Sad and dissapointing because in Los Angeles they are really warm and respectful.
This place is literally a hole disguised as a hip store, but is actually a death trap. Or at least somewhere a person could really get hurt. I walked in and thought the store was big and had more room towards the right...only to realize that it was just a very big, very clean mirror. I'm pretty sure that if my foot hadn't hit the class first, I would have walked right into it. Even disregarding the fact that I'm a walking klutz, I'm pretty sure I wasn't the first one to do that, as one of the clerks yelled "watch out" seconds too late.
And the rest of the clerks weren't all that friendly either - the girl assisting me only helped begrudgingly, as if my presence disturbed her hipness. But then I wouldn't be very gracious either, if i had to stand in a claustrophic room all day.
Also, while I was there, I heard them discussing the "rumor" that by next year, that location would be turned into the kid's store. Which I guess is more appropriate, as children are much smaller and will probably fit more comfortably there.
As I said in my review of The Marc Jacobs store in Soho, I will always appreciate Marc for his whimsy and fun approach to high fashion (if only the prices were a bit more whimsical), but this store is not showing off his best work. It's so cramped and tiny that when I stopped in one weekday afternoon, there were only like 3 other people there and it still felt over-crowded! I can't imagine it on the weekend when the mall that Bleecker St has become really gets full of people.
Also, I don't really understand why they decided to split this off from the other, much larger Bleecker Street location in order to expand the women's section. I realize nationally that women are your target audience, but in New York? In the West Village? Come on Marc, show some love for the family. The boys deserve better.
Ditto Sam. Tiny-ass store and any more than 2 people browsing the clothing rack and you're at capacity. Plus the bitchy wait staff act like they're on power-trips (not sure over what, exactly) and seem to just be chillin' instead of being helpful.
I'll spend my money elsewhere.
Ear muffs. I've decided ear muffs might be the key to me being less cold and more happy this winter. Plus, I'm getting sick of hat head.
Beneath a glass case in Marc Jacobs Men's Store I spied a selection of ear muffs, including a puffy, silvery one. I tried it on but it caused me to look even more Bjork than usual so I put the muffs back. That, and they were approaching $300. And not synthetic, either. I, for one, do not want a fox on my ear (nor a coyote around my neck, but that's another story entirely).
Still, this Marc Jacobs store offered a crazy little snapshot of New York for me when a woman with an obscenely well-groomed dog stepped in. From behind the counter one of the sales boys pulled a bag of treats. Drool from the dog's eager lips dripped to the floor as his disciplining owner made him sit properly to receive the snack. Apparently this is commonplace, as lots of dogs in this West Village 'hood pop in for a bone on the regular.
Meanwhile, I'm still on the hunt for some affordable ear muffs.
I have no problem with the size of the store. I've lived in smaller.
However, the employees are failed models I think. Good looking but very dumb. From the employee that opens the door (did not say a word), to the two empolyees (that did not say a word) at the computer. All too stupid to say hello.
I did like the pants I got.
Marc-y needs to get it together and get a bigger store. He's so popular he can afford it! But I did get a fantastic pink shirt. Staring down at the little Marc Jacobs etched into the buttons makes me happy. Is that shallow?
What the heck!? Why is this store so small!? It used to be a joint store with the female marc two blocks down the street. They carry some nice t shirts, belts, bags, and jackets. But they never have the sizes I was looking for, which are XS and S. Most of the coast and sweaters are in M or L or even XL! Its too bad. Come on Marc! Open up a bigger store for the boys.
