Love the store, hate the staff.  Being surrounded by all these wonderful clothes puts me in my own little utopia.  I am completely smitten when I walk in.

Minus one star (it should be minus three, but I love the merchandise so much) because of the staff. Someone needs to punch them in their ovaries.  I went in to get a handbag I fell madly in love with via the internet.  I figured I'd save myself from paying the shipping charges and buy it directly from the store.  I found the bag I wanted, but it was in brown, and I wanted it in black.  I kindly asked a sale associate to find me a black one and she rolled her eyes and walked away to find it.  I overheard her ask another associate, "I need this in black for the broad with the glasses. Where is it?"  I seriously should have treated her to my mad kung fu skills, but unfortunately I'm too nice.  So I left before she came back. I'll probably just order it online. Not to put the entire staff on blast but...someone needs a serious lesson in hospitality...

I had to get the dress of the season.  You know the one, fellow fashionistas.  One big poofy sleeve LBD that is in the latest Vogue.

The staff was fabulous with their assistance -- apparently someone that wears cranberry lipstick and lots of deodorant tried on the size 2 because it was all over the freaking dress.  Urg.  So, I asked for a new once which they ordered along with the size 0, just in case.

Two days later, I get a nice voicemail that my dresses are in.  I head back to the store later that weekend.  The staff was totally friendly when I asked to try both of them on (miraculously fitting into the smaller size).  My euphoria from fitting into the size 0 caused me to spend even more money.  Like Brett D., I swooned over the Wellies (black with pink for moi) and then bought a necklace on the way out. I could have kept on shopping but my credit card begged for mercy.

Mmmm... love this store!! To me, it is aesthetically flawless...

I swoon for the glossy concrete floors, avant garde art installations (well, hello Mr. Skyhigh Swan!!), rows and rows of luxe tufted leather bags, clothing arranged by color, even a sick selection of Wellies lined up like soldiers and a tucked away corner of fabulous, decorative coffee table books. A little OCD organization is always good for the soul.

The Marc by Marc items vary from phenomenally funky to (almost) utilitarian. Take your pick from statement pieces (like the amazing, sumptuous navy wool and floral print shifts) or fully functional-while-fashionable items like t-shirts, swimwear, totes and shorts all with a touch of signature MJ flair.

True, items here can be pricey... I often joke with my shopping posse that all clothing in Marc by Marc is $298... it's just the going rate. Of course bags can be upwards of $1,000+ (ouch, those are the purchases that sting...), but that silk geometric dress you love? $298. The glorious cream-colored inlay sweater to top it? $298. A flattering pair of five pocket knit pants? $298. You can easily spend all day wrestling with your conscience on how to justify an almost three hundo dollar spend on items so vastly different from each other....

Splurge on one. Then grab a pair of those (such a steal) $28 rainboots - love 'em in black on green - and a Modern Americana coffee table book for your viewing pleasure. Rationalization over. Happy Shopping!

One of my clients got me a Marc Jacobs handbag so I head to dig deeper and see what Marc Jacobs was all about. I loved every bit of the store. Usually at name-brand stores, the staff has a snobby attitude but in this case, the clientele had their noses up and the staff was very friendly. They told me what looked good, and they gave honest opinions and didn't just tell me to buy the higher priced item. I liked that and I like going to stores I can trust.

The service is still incredibly bad, but Marc Jacobs has outdone himself with his suits for fall. The jackets have gorgeous structure and are often paired with equally beautiful dresses. I love a suit with a sheath dress! Marc Jacobs did this to motivate me to get a good job so I can buy these to wear to court... now if he could only motivate a law firm to hire me as a full-time associate so that I could afford these lovelies...

Beautiful store...heck anything is beautiful if its filled with Marc Jacobs Paraphernalia. After getting my pants leg completely soaked in the rain last night I figured it was about high time I mozy on over to MJ for some much needed and talked about rain boots.(Thanks to Chris L's Review)  I must have been very focused on getting in an out because I didn't have any problem with the staff being snooty. My new Wellington's are HOT! Ocean Blue baby!! I cant wait for the rain. I'm ready for it and I will be stylin and profilin.

Marc Jacobs is on that list of designers that, in my luxurious super-fashionable upper-class dreams, I wear all the time. So when I was visiting my parents in Chicago, I made them fight traffic from near Ravenswood to Wicker Park just so I could dig through some cheap bins and show my support for my man MJ.

As is expected in Wicker Park, parking is scarce so my dad dropped my mom and me off and did a few drives around the block until we were ready to go. I was immediately drawn to the giant wall of Marc Jacobs handbags and seriously coveted a saucy little purple number, imagined all my junk inside it, saw the $1k price tag and moved on. My mom picked up a pink sweater and told me it would be cute on me, then we checked the tag and realized it was $800. Okay, moving on to the bins. I found some gym bags, umbrellas, pocket mirrors.. But nothing really called out to me. My mom saw some flip flops and said, wow, maybe we should just get these, since everything else is so expensive. I was not ready to settle, I still had more browsing to do.

I came across the table of Stinky Rat clothes, which I had heard of but not yet witnessed in person. I'm a bit ashamed of how much I spend, and most especially in front of my parents, so I tried to decide on one color and not buy like, 5 shirts and polos. The store also has a good collection of books, not unlike that in Urban Outfitters, so I probably won't come here for a book.

I wish I had more time to peruse the M by MJ purses since they're more in my price range, but I walked out the door with a dark navy Stinky Rat long sleeved shirt for when I feel like chillaxin but while wearing something designer, a purple faux snakeskin keychain, and a long necklace with a monocle. All in all, a success. It can kind of be a blessing that I don't actually live close to here, since I would probably end up selling my soul or my first-born for a buttery leather satchel from the magical wall of awesome.

My man, Marc, is one of my favorites...right behind Nanette Lepore and Rebecca Taylor.  And when I walked by his boutique today I realized I've never actually been inside. Actually I don't think I've ever been in any Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique. I know, I know...and I call myself a fan.

A trip in here is so not good for the "save money" 2009 New Years resolution. I immediately spotted like 57 things I just had to have...mostly cute casual dresses, but cute shoes, coats, purses, and even mittens too!

I was excited to see the $50 or under rack in the back, but disappointed when everything on it was ugly or velvet.  Really Marc...velvet in March? Me thinks not.
But when I have some cash to burn (perhaps 2010?) I'll be back...

I wanted to say that the staff in this store are very courteous and helpful and not at all pushy.  I love the clothes and the store as well.  I recently received a gift and had to return it.  The sales clerk was wonderful and took care of it while I shopped and personally came and gave me the store credit receipt.  We chatted during my purchase and she was just the best.  Will definitely shop here again and again.

I was craving some retail therapy and wanted to check this store out after driving by it a few weeks ago.  I walked into the store and immediately felt  uncomfortable and very self-conscious.  Like others have said, the staff has a way of making you feel like you can't afford anything there or just don't belong there.

Their selection though is awesome.  They have a variety of sizes and also sort everything out by color.  If the price tags of the clothes and purses are a little out of your budget, they also have a plethora of accessories that are more affordable.  I also snagged a pair of the $28 wellies that I have been eying since I went to the Marc Jacobs store in Boston.

Overall, great stuff but customer service could use some work.

This place is a seriously odd duck. It's a bizarre mix of cheap and poorly-crafted (though often cute) accessories, and beautiful well-made clothes. Many of the pieces look like they could almost be couture (one of a kind beaded cardigan for like 5 bones, fur lined coat, tapestry-like paisley dress, etc); and yet - the "jewelry" (which is usually covered in marc's name - annoying) would probably leave a green ring on you.

All in all, it's hit or miss. You can definitely find some really cute things here, and the prices run the gamut from completely reasonable to out of control, depending on the item. This Spring's line has a great pair of unisex rain boots. These are the best, most comfortable wellies I've ever owned. And they were only $28! I should have bought more than one pair. If they're still in the store, I think I will.

I recently popped in the store on a very rainy Sunday.  The store was packed, but there were several sales people who were incredibly helpful.  And, although alot of the clothing is soooo not my taste (a bit too young), they indulged my shopping spree (for my daughter) and even suggested a few pieces that were definitely my style.  Overall, the prices are quite manageable...there were T-shirts for less than $30 and I love, love, love the wellies I bought (again, less than $30).

Not a place I'll become addicted too, but am already thinking about stopping in tomorrow to buy this handbag that was calling my name as I left!

reviewing the customer service, not the stuff. because i worship at the altar of mr. jacobs.

BUT the service committed a major faux pas for a designer house in my book. i know for a fact that other marc jacobs stores will repair their products if something goes wrong, in my case, stitching across the zipper of my purse. this place won't do it simply because i didn't buy it at this particular location. are you kidding me? i pay over a thousand dollars for a bag and you won't even repair the zipper? i've been to stores like kate spade and ferragamo who will repair their products free of charge, regardless of when or where it was purchased, as long as it carries their name. not the case here. tsk, tsk.

"How on earth could Mr. Jacobs cheapen his brand by selling 'cheap' stuff?"

Because he's a great businessman! A lot of people such as myself love Marc Jacobs but sometimes cant fork out $150 for a single t-shirt. Funny how you people have no complaints when Karl Lagerfeld worked with H&M or Alexander McQueen working with Target of all places, but God forbid MJ sell anything under $100!!!

That aside, love the Stinky Rat Polo's and the twill jeans I bought from them last month. The jeans are tricky, if you're someone whose physically greater then the models in MJ ads, you have to get them a couple sizes bigger. I'm a 32 inch waist and I had to get these in size 34. Ok, not a big problem. but with all the money Mr. Jacobs is making with his company as well as being creative director of Louis Vuitton, he can at least cut the lengths in different sizes so I don't have to spend $20 getting them tailored.

I've heard horror stories about the sales people being snooty, but seriously these people are extremely helpful and dont give you the stink eye if you ask for something in a size bigger or choose a $18 Stinky Rat T-shirt instead of the $150 sweaters.

I've already got a shopping list ready for my next visit. White dress shirt, black twill jeans, wallet, couple Stinky Rat t-shirts, cologne....yeah, Marc Jacobs...you rock!

Complete love/hate relationship.

Why I love you...
- I could spend hours (okay maybe minutes) gazing at the handbag wall.
- Looking through the clothes pretending like I can afford them takes me away for awhile.
-  While some think you have sold out with your 'more affordable' items, I love that I could take a piece of you home with me.  My silver heart compact mirror is always in my purse.

Why I sorta hate you...
-  The fact that I really cannot afford anything besides my silver compact mirror.. and those quilted bags.  But I'm really not attracted to them at all.
-  The door guys is always welcoming, but the rest of the team does a great job of making me FEEL like I can't afford anything in there or should have even stepped foot in the store.  They could at least say hello and break away from the conversations they are having with eachother.

Dear Marc,

This has been coming on for a while now, but I think it's time to just admit what I've been thinking since your store opened in Bucktown.  I think it's time we break up.

Sure, we never really had much of a relationship. It was mostly unrequited, as I would drool over your vintage-inspired swing coats and dresses, knowing that they would never actually grace my wardrobe.  I would stare at the buckles and details on your giant leather bags knowing that I would never actually walk arm-in-arm with them.  Of course I was jealous of the other women-  the ones who could actually afford to be seen with you. There was too much standing in our way, we come from  different worlds- I'm the Andie to your Blaine. And while those crazy kids managed to make it work in the end, well, I never had much hope for us.

But I'm okay with it now, after wandering through your store for the second time and being appalled by the bins of cheap garbage you dein to provide for those of us who like designer clothes on a Target budget.  The vinyl hobo bags for $42 were almost insulting, when I could go into any department store and get a better quality item for the same price (on sale, of course).  Some of the accessories are cute, the bangles and rings, etc. But condoms? Really? Now you're just laughing at me behind my back. I really dug the "Marc by Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs" totes from last year, I get the irony there, but it seems you've gone too far.  It's one thing to be tongue-in-cheek about the label-obsessed, it's another to pick on those lower-income folks who really do like your stuff, and will wear whatever they can afford.

Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. I hear there's a Zac Posen store coming to Humboldt Park*. He doesn't have a restraining order on me yet.

Love, Lauren

*Just kidding. But can't you see it happening?

Dear Marc,

Thanks for thinking of us poor student-type folks and having adorable accessories that cost under ten bucks so we can walk out of your store with something other than a frown face at our empty wallets. I'm currently obsessed with the really sparkly ring and the fabulous faux pearls I snagged while ogling (and severely coveting) the pretty, pretty bags and dresses and everything else in the store. One day when I am rich, I will come back and buy things that are not small accessories.

xoxo,
Me

This store will be the end of me.

I will have boatloads of cute stuff and exactly zero dollars left over.

There's currently a dress there that I am coveting to a ridiculous degree - red silk, 1920's inspired. And a purse - a butterly leather thing in a gorgeous honey-brown. And a white driving jacket/trench coat.

But not everything costs and arm and a leg - there are bins of stuff for under $15. I snagged a cute beachy tote for under $12, Jenny A grabbed some adorable chunky rings for $5.

Marc Jacobs, I love you.

gotta love affordable and stylish accessories and clothing.

this place had countless bins with prices from $5 to $20. the walls are lined with stylish clothes that are a step down from the MJ line but just as fashionable and finelymade. thankfully they're nicely displayed and not stored on shelves still in their  plastic bags (i wonder what store im talking about).

the sales peeps were chatty and hinted to an upcoming sale.

another great addition to bucktown!

Ugh!

$5 bin right when you walk in?  Seriously?  Literally the first thing you see when you walk in.  A bin labeled "$5."

Everyone's all "I got this for $5" and "OMG, it was only $5."  But did you look at it?  It's garbage.  Outsourced foreign disposable crap.  I said it!

And then, in the middle of the chaos, there's like 2 racks of $355 dresses?  If you lived under a rock and didn't know who Marc Jacobs was, you'd laugh at the thought of even putting those racks in the store.

Whatever.  I've never worked retail, I don't run a chain store, etc., but I was VERY disappointed.  To me, it looks like Marc just wanted some real estate in Chicago and then basically took a shit in the store.

Insulting.

I love the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs (MBMJ) lines.  I no longer live in a city with a MJ or MBMJ store so I search them out whenever I travel.  Needless to say I've been to a lot of their boutiques and this might just be my favorite.  Compared to most it is spacious and well appointed.  Browsing is easy even on a crowded day.  The hip staff here is great and extremely helpful no matter the price point you are browsing - from $11 flip-flops to $2,000 purses.

The store opened up on Tuesday, having just returned from the store, I have to say- right now it's looking pretty good! They have several cheap cheap items up in bins, such as compacts, gloves, keychains and necklaces for like $1- $10. And their small leather accessories for like $11 and up.
From what I could see on the racks, the collection is looking good. All the storeboys were all gay, hip and happy to help, I will say however the many blouses/shirts/ items on the walls, could most def. be better displayed, I found it really hard to just SEE everything.

Also, i found their return policy really horrible, I can understand maybe no returns- but no exchanges??WTF? (on items like shoes, im not sure about clothing)

Now, since an $850 dress from Marc Jacobs gracing my zaftig form is about as likely as a Gauguin gracing my in-need-of-great-repair walls at home, this place is really of little use to me other than as a diversion. But it is a fairly pleasant diversion to go inside and wear a $2,000 purse on your arm for a few minutes.  It's also an excellent opportunity to see what real Marc Jacobs stuff looks like so that if you see it at the Salvation Army or for $20 on eBay you'll have some guide as to whether or not it's real.

If you're looking for a fab ruffly frou frou dress that Forever 21 won't have a good knock-off of for at least a year and you want to spend the equivalent of rent on it, then I would definitely recommend this spot. There also is a really decent selection of low priced (under $20) stuff here too, which kind of makes this like Urban Outfitters, but like "Urban" meaning London or Milan and "Outfitter" meaning like, well like Marc Jacobs. Oh, and except for the fact that Urban Outfitters doesn't sell anything under $20 - not even gum. I'm totally going to start buying presents for people from here from the cheapo stuff that says Marc Jacobs on it so I can totally look like a big-timey hi rollah to my friends.

And uh, oh yeah... Hey! Marc Jacobs! Pssst....There's a fricking recession already!  Who the hell are you people really shopping here? Anyone dropping real cash here should be obliged to find a hobo (or me) and straight up just give them (or me) like $20 bucks as a social tariff. Jeez...

I may be a tad bit biased with it comes to MJ - I love most of his handbags as well as some of his clothing.  While it maybe be hefty on the wallet, you have to admit, molesting all those beautiful bags on the shelves outlining the store is a wondrous thing.  There are also racks by the cashiers of $1 plastic rings, $5 keychains, etc.  For some reason, it seems as if getting anything from this store would be at a bargain, considering it's Marc by Marc Jacobs.  The employees are extremely friendly, and they don't hound you while you take a looksy around the store.  Off of North, a good place to check out if you're in the neighborhood.

No refunds.  Ever.

You have 7 days to exchange or get store credit.

They violate the law by processing your card AND taking an image of your credit card, and were too stupid to understand or care when I explained that to them.  Um, hello, when you get hit with a class action, then you'll care.

Absolutely awful.

After selling some clothes to Buffalo Exchange on Milwaukee, I took my money...and spent it on more clothes at Marc by Marc Jacobs. This store is really cute. There are plenty of cheap "kitschy" things ($15 rainboots with "Chicago" printed on them, plastic bangles, bubble rings, Jacobs by Marc by Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs canvas bags, condoms, etc) in addition to the normal collection merchandise of clothing, purses, and leather goods.

I ended up getting the Blondie t-shirt (for only $5!) plus another t-shirt. I think I might need to convince myself to go back for a striped dress...

Oh and the salespeople were really nice and helpful!

Ok. I was one of those people that was stalking the MJ website, googling the store, doing EVERYTHING to see when the store was going to open. So, when I finally walked in, I was ready to be excited.

I didn't have time to get excited.  I was too busy trying to make my way passed the masses of people gathered around the $5 bin that was conveniently located right at the door.  No thanks.

Also, what's weird is that they tried to fit way too many things into the store. Like everything he liked ever in his life he wanted in his store. Yes, I did think that some of the things were cute (striped gloves, cute whimsical condom packages, a necklace and some bags) but it was just too overwhelming to look through everything.  It was just way too cramped.

They did have some MJ collection bags there, colors that are exclusive to the store, that were pretty, but hidden in between over stuffed racks and guarded by an uber hipster.

All the Marc Jacob stores are laid out basically the same and I love it!    There's a lot of variety in the store, ranging from clothes and bags (duh), perfumes/lotions, rain boots, books, etc etc.  It's pretty big and there's a lot of browse.

There were 2 big bins at the front filled with cotton bags and t's and it was only $5.  I got a green Boston tshirt :)

I fell in love with this navy dress at the back of the store and I really want to go back and get it.  I was asking this girl (I didn't realize she worked there) where she got her dress from and she just pointed at the rank!  Haha it was pretty funny.

The workers there are very nice and helpful.  They are funny and I wished I worked there too!  :)   I can't wait to go back and buy something.

Did you need ANOTHER reason to go to Bucktown? My new favorite store. I love the Dirty Rat polos for 30 bucks. I already on a few. The staff is suprisingly nice and in no way snobby. They have things in every price range (cheap T's to the expensive Collection). The neighborhood is my favorite in Chicago. I'd take it any day over Lincoln Park or Wrigleyville. There's amazing vintage stores as well as designers all in very close distance so it's a fun shopping day.

I was so excited to try this store...but the moment I walked in I was disappointed.

They seem to not use their space well....there are huge bins with rings for $5...yet all their women's clothes are smashed together.  The store carries alot of inventory, but not alot of different sizes.  I was actually expecting more...especially from Marc Jacobs.

I was really looking forward to this- the one on Newbury Street is really cool and it's just a sweet place to get some interesting stuff to work in season to season.

But.  I was pretty disappointed.  If you want a lot of stuff, I think H&M's selection is better.  Yay for you, Marc, you don't take yourself so seriously that you can't put a $12 plastic pouch next to a $1200 bag.  I'm more of a medium boil girl so I was just lost and put off by the bins and piles and...you get it. Spending $12 on that plastic little wristlet just makes it more apparent that it's "patently" $11.98 for a screenprinted "Marc Jacobs" on the inside.  No quality, no design. Just plastic.

Extra star is for the genuinely attractive door guy.  Cause no one wants to end sour.

I know the $5 bins have a bit of a WalMart feel to them but c'mon who can resist a "name brand" wallet for $5 bucks.  And no one can deny that Marc Jacobs is a name and a brand.

Honestly and sadly to say the $5 bin is as far as this place goes.  I'm not going to buy a t shirt or a trendy half button pull over at inflated prices when I can get them from a better/posher name brand store or even a local boutique at the same inflated price and the best part is they don't have a $5 dollar bins lining the front doors... Sorry Marc

But the staff is really friendly and the posters are really awesome...

see for yourself..

oh marc.

all i have to say is thank god i dont live in wicker park...because i could just imagine myself "popping in" here to look and "accidently" blowing $300 on a semi regular basis. i restricted myself to only buying his "jacobs" brand stuff (which i think has no item that is more than $50...and quirky and adorb) and i spent about $100!

the $5 bin is full of things that will likely fall apart (yet still i bought 3 $5 bangles!?), but everything is aesthetically pleasing. i wound up with said bangles, an umbrella, a bracelet for the bf, a necklace for me, and 2 clutches...and i die for his marc by marc brand...i wanted everything in the store. literally everything.

i recently discovered a pair of sliver mouse ballet flats at MBMJ. "mouse ballet flats?" you ask. yes, silver ballet flats complete with little pink mouse ears, beady eyes and whiskers. thus silver mouse ballet flats. ridiculous? yes. friggin' awesome that things like this exist and you can purchase them at a reasonable (for marc jacobs) price? i'll give that  a classic napoleon dynamite YESSS!

kitchy accessories, quasi designer purses, and sunglasses galore make me a happy camper when i set foot in this store. their staff is friendly, they have a standing zone for easy parking in front, and while it is yet another designer store invading the streets of bucktown, at least this one provides some unique products and something for almost everyone, hipster and prep alike. minus one star for the fact that they close at 7, and i always seem to want to stop there at about 7:05.

Tries to be a hybrid of H&M and Barney's and fails on both counts....the $5 bin is nothing but crap, like straight up, random, quarter in the vending machine crizap. The clothing is displayed like an army surplus store, three tiers of racks, the third tier you can't even reach (I hate it when stores do that! Don't make me jump for a shirt, dammit!). Impossible to find your size and almost as impossible to find a salesperson to assist you. Good selection of bags to play with and the doorman is ridiculously hot....

Marc by Marc Jacobs is a diffusion from its parent brand. Therefore, the prices are much more affordable. If you think, shoot me I just bought Marc Jacobs under 1000 bucks, it is an original piece but just with less expensive fabric and craftsman. On one hand it seems vulgar for the brand to target considerbly less wealthy population through name branding, but . . .my oh my . . . do I love my pumps and the tote my beau got me for Mother's day!

i need to start by saying this: i am in the business of customer service, so i understand a lot of the devices employed in giving "good service" and don't fall prey to them often. i have also visited an unreasonably high number of MxMJ stores, so there is much to compare.

that said, this store had the best customer service out of any marc by marc store i have ever visited. courtney was delicious, really fun and sincere, helpful, and not pushy. she flattered my style, which wins me over instantly (we've all got damaged egos! c'mon!), but had a lot of thoughtful and funny comments to make about me vs. the typical marc customers. i loved her instantly. she walked around the store and pulled the "funkiest" things from the 2007 s/s collection and wowed me with how well she did figuring out my taste. SHE IS A DREAMBOAT!

also, this has one of the best/most complete collection of MxMJ goods out of any of the stores. yes i know it just opened, but they have more square footage and better layout than either the NY or LA stores. three cheers for the midwest!

when i had finished shopping, i felt better (and less regretful) than after most one-night-stands i've had. and as a gay man, that's saying a lot.
