Review from Meghan C.
I'm going to be THAT reviewer.
"I worked at an ice cream store all through high school so I know what I'm talking about and you should absolutely listen to me."
Hate to be a know it all, but after running one for three years, I know good, bad, ugly. This is very, very good.
The boy, Baby C., has really enjoyed vanilla yogurt (frozen or Greek), the other night was no exception, but I wanted soft serve gotdamnit The nonfat yogurt I had in the freezer was NOT acceptable. My saint of a hubs, JR C., took me here because we noticed it was still open in the winter on the way to Charlie Brown's the other night (the boy *also* enjoys steak more than me, apparently).
We pull up, brightly lit, lots of stuff on the windows showing off what they have, I walk around the front and there are two smiling young ladies that say "Hi!" through the window. I notice they have blizzards or frosties or flurries or whatever the eff you call them these days - and for a small it was only - $3.25? Something like that? I wanted...NAY, NEEDED, a vanilla yogurt Blizz/Fros/Flurr with BUTTERFINGER so I order it and hubs gets one with peanut butter cup. She smiles politely and says "okay!" and "Oh, I like your purse!"...I love my purse too so I preened a little. Fellas/Ladies, if your lady is happy with her purse, you will be happy with your life.
As she turns away from window my inspection commences, I attempt to subtly stick my head in the window for a better look...the ice cream store I was raised in had a cardinal rule: if you don't have anything to do, CLEAN. It was a chilly January night and they were dead...lemme see how clean this place it.
Dude, spotless. Every counter top was clean, all the toppings were filled up, the machines were wiped down with clean rags so were sporting that nice silvery sheen. If it's a crazy Friday night in July at 9:00 p.m., things are going to get grimy and is most definitely understandable, but the fact that their standard is clearly "spic and span" when the workload is manageable is something I most definitely appreciate.
So, service - great. Facility, clean - great. Yogurt? GOOD LAWD. THIS WAS LIKE VANILLA AWESOME WITH BUTTERFINGER. This is easily the best tasting non-fat yogurt I have ever had.
The total for two generous Blizz/Fros/Flurrs was $6 and change.
I'm not a sweets person but with the little guy growing in here, I see MSCS in my future should I get the yen soon. Snaps to you guys, I want to send the owner a nice card. -

Tasty! Tasty! Tasty! Take your kid to the Chuck E Cheese next to the mall in Cherry Hill and then come here for some tasty icecream. Our family of 3 shared a small flurry -a blended ice cream with TONS of Reeses Peanut Butter cups-$3.50. Just plan to eat in your car (which is kind of a pain with a toddler, but we managed).

When I say I go here at least 5 times a week... I'm as serious as a Russian ice skater performing in the Moscow Olympics. Once you've had this ice cream, you simply learn not to settle for anything else. They offer a nonfat ice cream that will turn your world upside- down. I HIGHLY recommend getting a flurry, specifically, with nonfat twist ice cream and Swedish fish! Mmmmm!
Be sure to plan accordingly in regards to the crowds you may come across on a summer evening... it can get pretty densely populated. Oh and this is probably one of the only ice cream stands I know of that is open ALL YEAR 'ROUND! -

My tax attorney (Gabriella I.) tells me this place is a local tradition. She's been hitting The Stand since she was a little tax write-off.
You don't have to be a skilled wilderness tracker to see that Maple Shaders have been walking, riding, and cruising in cars to this place for decades. Sniff the air: a deep inhale of that residual idling-car-exhaust and you will know that this place is time-tested and cruiser-approved.
Water ice. It's great quality. Not too icy, not too syrupy. Just right. Note, it's different from true-Philadelphia style water ice. This is Jersey, folks, so the water ice is perfectly slushy. My favorite is the sugar-free cherry.
Frozen custard. Always smooth and thick. They feature NONFAT ICE CREAM in vanilla, chocolate, and maybe strawberry. That's the main attraction. Even if you're lactose intolerant, like my tax attorney, you can eat the nonfat ice cream. Look, don't bore me with scientific questions of how that's possible. It just is, okay?
Sometimes long lines, but always happy people. They have a bench or two on which to eat the sweets. Mostly, you stand. And for some reason that I, a car-culture-Californian, cannot understand, people love best sitting in idling cars while (as my friend Will M. says) $4.25 drains from their tailpipes. I don't get it. -

BEST LOW-FAT CUSTARD EVER! I stopped at this place for the first time a month or so ago. I wanted to go to Rita's, but my nephew wanted to go to MSCS, so we stopped there. I ordered a gelati with the low fat (80% fat) custard. I took one bite (well, spoonful) of the custard and asked if it was REALLY low fat. Once I was assured it was, I dug right in. The water ice is fresh and sweet, but not OVERLY sweet. In fact, I didn't realize just how sweet Rita's ice was until I tried MSCS. I stopped there yesterday afternoon, and it was just as good as before...YUM! Plus, it smelled so yummy - I think they were baking the waffle cones. Oh, and the prices are great! MSCS is definitely my new water ice spot!

I cannot believe I am the first person to review this place. Okay, the custard stand has been in Maple Shade longer than I've been alive. It is a landmark. Years ago they were only open in the summer, but they are open all year round. They do amazing business, mostly local business. There is ALWAYS a crowd waiting for ice cream on hot summer evenings.
They sell soft-serve ice cream as the "featured item", but they also have traditional hard-scoop ice cream. They have an extensive menu with things like chocolate covered bananas, water ice, ice cream sundaes, milk shakes, and flurries. Of course they have a huge variety of toppings as well.
The prices are great. There is outdoor seating at picnic tables and a big parking lot to accomodate the crowds. -

YUM! Got soft serve twist in a dish with chocolate sprinkles and a cone on top (it was hot, wasn't going to risk the cone alone), and it was to diiiiie for! I ordered a medium and it was admittedly too much, but I couldn't stop eating it was so good.

Hands down, Maple Shade Custard Stand has THE BEST soft serve in this area. I say this as a former employee (summer job in college) and a lifelong customer. My sister worked one or two summers there during college as well and shares my opinion. Sundaes, milk shakes, flurries (soft ice cream blended with toppings of your choice), water ice, homemade chocolate covered bananas, chipwiches and ice cream sandwiches are just some of the things you can get every day of the week and any time of year. I always leave happy and with exactly what I came for-- they are well prepared and well stocked for business. Probably one of the reasons why they have been around for decades!

Came here earlier tonight and ordered a vanilla custard for myself and a mango gelati for the parents. One of the best custards I've had. Smooth, creamy, and delicious. Also, a ridiculously huge portion for a small. Definitely coming back.

The best fat-free soft ice cream that my wife and I have found throughout the Eastern U.S.A. including Florida. Prices most reasonable. So good that I often have to keep myself from going there since I watch my diet. (I live just ten minutes away)
