Wow, I hadn't gone inside the shopping center of Manhattan Village in years but had the chance to step inside there today when I arrived early for my lunch date. I remember when I was younger my aunt would take me here to go shopping and then we would eat at the Islands. I always thought it was a cool place and so when I stepped in today after many years I found that it still is the nice little mall that I remembered. This mall is still the very clean and classy looking mall that it was years ago but it just now has more great stores.
This mall is small but it's definitely a nice place to just do some quick shopping. They have all the essential stores for any quick shopping that you'd like to do - Victoria's Secret, Macy's, Harry and David, Pottery Barn, Claire's accessories, Sephora and more. I was very pleased to see many of the stores had super cool deals. I also liked how the mall wasn't too crowded inside (although I know outside it's kinda difficult at lunch time to find parking because of all the restaurants to eat at).
All in all, I had a lot of fun during my quick shopping trip here. It was nice to just be able to go around, find good deals, do some quick shopping and then step out and have a quick bite to eat at one of the nearby restaurants in Manhattan Village. I'm definitely going to be back here to do some shopping the next time I'm in the area.
If you've lived in the South Bay for longer than 10 years, you will remember the old MB mall - including a toy store, a pet store, a Crown books and a really awesome food court. My dad and I would come to the mall 1-2 times a week, walk around, browse for books, then grab a cookie from Mrs. Fields and people-watch.
In 2002, the mall was sold to a new company who completely renovated the entire thing. They added skylights, lofty ceilings, stone facades, indoor planters and removed the food court. Yes, you heard me. A mall. Without a food court. I actually worked in one of the stores that took the place of the food court for years and sometimes, when I tried to figure out where I would eat lunch that day, I looked longingly at the stockroom door and thought, "That's where Sbarro used to be..."
Now, the mall is a haven for women. Primarily those with small children or those about to have small children. There is an Ann Taylor Loft, a Sephora, a Victoria's Secret, a Gap, a Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids. There's a jeweler, a Godiva, a Bath and Body Works, an Origins store and a gelato shop. There is a Soma, a Chico's, a J. Jill, a Harry and David and two Macy's (one for women, one for men and home). The one reason that men enter this mall can be found just north of the middle, the Apple store. Any other men you find here are usually waiting outside Victoria's Secret holding a bunch of shopping bags.
As for restaurants, there's a Tacone in the center of the mall. (That's another review, but don't eat here; I worked at this mall for years and I know the food quality at this establishment. Also, they charge over $2 for a soda and they made the cups smaller.) There's an Islands at the north end of the mall if you'd like sit-down fare, and there are plenty of other restaurants in the parking lot.
If you need something in one of these stores, it's a great local mall with relatively good parking (except during the holidays) and lots of beachy ambience. If you're looking to browse before or after a movie and dinner, it's also a good choice.
But it's still a mall with no food court.
I love this place, even if it is small but it's very clean and bright. Great place to get some lunch, see a movie, and get in a little shopping.
There are definitely some positives at this very small mall, which is very well maintained. I think the best thing about the mall are all the places (outside of the mall) that are within walking distance--Bank of America, See's, Ralph's Fresh Fare, and even the China Grill restaurant.
In terms of the mall itself, there are a lot of places here that are more geared towards "gift shopping" (Williams-Sonoma, Harry & David, Pottery Barn) than "every weekend" shopping. For more "every weekend" shopping, there is an Apple Store as well as a few clothing stores (The Gap, Macy's, etc.). In terms of food, there is not much, but you can get a quick bite at the Corner Bakery or some good gelato at Veneto.
Parking is usually pretty easy to find (though you may have to park farther away than you would like at peak times). Overall, this is an okay mall, but it is definitely not big enough to support all your shopping needs. Still, for those who live in and around Manhattan Beach, it can be quite convenient.
This is a nice little mall, it's not really a "shopping mall" but its a a Mall with a Macys at one end and a Macys mens store/furniture store at the other end. The whole mall only has one wing. Inside you will find ANGL, Sephora, Origins, Gap, Bath and Body Works, and Ann Taylor. Its basically targeted to the Desperate housewives of Manhattan Beach who have nothing else better to do when Junior is in day care, they have left the tanning salon, and hubby is working his job as a Doctor/Lawyer/Real Estate Executive/Stockbroker/Hollywood Moghul.
Its nice to look around, walk in and walk out. You don't have much shopping for men here other than the Macys mens store and the Gap.
Even though its not a place to really go shopping for things you really need, its fun to walk around and get a coffee.
But beware, they have a gelato place that charges a ridiculous amount of money for a golf ball size of Gelato. Don't get me wrong, its great gelato, but you need a home equity line of credit to pay for the prices they are asking. As if the recession wasn't bad enough, that place makes you feel like its a depression.
I am knocking it down 2 stars because
1. You can't really shop for stuff you need, only multiple shops for skin care to keep up with your botox..WHOOPS! I mean to keep your skin looking healthy and great.
and I knocked it down another star because..
2. You can walk through this mall within 30 minutes. and if you are a guy, dont waste your time shopping for clothes here, with the exception of the Macy's mens store there are no stores for men. Also, there is no food court :(
Nothing special, at least it's better than Del Amo. Del Amo is bigger, but the Village Mall has better specialty stores. Either way I end up driving out to Melrose, or ordering online.
This mall has gone through a lot of changes through the years. But has proven the test of time and transformed into a nice mall.
I do miss a lot of things from the original start including - Tequila Willies, Hallmark store, etc.

A great collection of shops, all in one location.
I love the Macy's (with a separate mens store),… Read more »
Before even getting to Manhattan Village you have to deal with the hassle of driving on Rosecrans. The two mile stretch west of the 405 boasts tons of great restaurants and shops, and there's the crowds to prove it.
If you plan on coming here on a weekend, you'll have to deal with the lines of cars trying to get into the parking lot (and not accidentally getting into Fry's uneven parking lot), as well as a total lack of parking. People put up with the inconveniences for a reason -- there's such a laid back attitude at this mall. Shoppers here have money to spend and they won't be rushed. I have several friends in retail and they all aspire to one day work at Manhattan Village. They love the lack of rowdy crowds, punk ass kids and bargain hunters.
If you find you have to run an errand at one of their very few stores, this is a great mall to stop in during the week.
From a dude's shopping perspective, consider this mall bunk-sauce.
There are plenty of great women's stores here. From Talbots, to Victoria's Secret, and ofcourse the lovely creams and facials at Origins.
The floor is open, bright, and pleasant to walk around.
No food court. Strike one in a guy's book. I'm hungry, man!
No stores of a guy's interest. No, the Gap is not where I wanna buy a t-shirt. Strike 2!
Strike 3: The lady at the Macy's counter didn't give 2 shits to help me w/a cologne purchase. Yes trick, I was about to buy D&G light blue if you had an ounce of customer service behind your name tag.
You're OUT!
I used to run here all the time during lunch break from work. Beware, parking gets a bit of the hassle since every runs here for lunch because of all the restaurants.
Manhattan Village is a great place for a dinner and a movie. The Pacific Theatres here, adjjacent from the Women's Macy's runs indie films that aren't showing at any of the other theatres nearby. The Macy's here is also very nice. It's organized and clean and usually has a good clearance selection, though it doesn't offer as much variety as the Macy's in Del Amo.
This shoppiing center also has other stores that aren't going to be found in other shopping center nearby, like the Apple Store, William and Sonoma, Babystyle, Lucy, Coach and maybe a few more. There are always people sitting on th couches outside of Apple Store with their laptops, probably catching some free wireless.
They also have a wide selection of restaurants like Islands, CPK, Koo Koo Roo's, See's Candy, Baja Fresh, LA Food Show, Chili's, China Grill... something for everyone.
It's just a nice, convenient classy place without being too pretentious.
Consider this place a botique mall (expensive). Not humongous like what you're all used to. Just Macy's, a few mall standards and a bunch of dinky botique stores. There's a cute sandwich joint in the middle and an overpriced gelato place nearby.
A great spot to people watch, do a few laps while eating your gelato or just hang out until your movie begins.
I wouldn't buy anything here. I'd rather go to the brand new El Segundo strip mall further north on Sepulveda.
This is a cute little mall that has all the stuff you need for a quick browse or a 'run in and run out' mall experience.
They've got all the major stuff that you need- Victoria Secret, Gap, Bath and Body Works and Macy's along with a bunch others.
Its located right next to the movie theater which means its a hot spot for me because I always tend to be super early for everything- and this way I don't have to just sit around and wait- I can shop!!
One of my favorite malls to get in and out of.. in fact i love it so much, i was hesitant to even review it because i dont want to share my favorite shopping destination.
It has all the basics a makeup junkie needs: Sephora and a Macy's with a MAC counter. There's also a Apple Store, Bath & Body Works, William Sonoma, Ann Taylor Loft, Coach, & Godiva. There's also a fabulous shoe store where i bought a cute pair of Seychelle ballet flats.. they also do shoe stretching.
Aside from the selection of stores, what i love most about this place is that it's never crowded. I can get in and out in minutes, plus parking is never a problem.
This is my ideal Christmas shopping stop.. go in later in the evening. no excessive walking across the mall to get to the store you want.
The only thing this place is missing is a quality mall food, so i deducted one star.. i crave quick grab and go things like Auntie Annes or Wetzels. The one and only food source in the mall is a Tacone stand.
There are plenty of sit down restaurants OUTSIDE the mall: Islands, CPK and a Corner Bakery.. but then id have to go all the way outside, and walk around the corner... then wait... eff that, i want my mall pretzel damn it.
This is my favorite mall. it has even surpassed the Avenue of the Peninsula in Palos Verdes.
This mall is small, but it has everything I need. There's an apple store, a Pottery Barn, a Williams Sonoma, Gap, Ann Taylor, Macy's, Bombay, Sephora, and Vickie's Secret, J.Jill, AngL, White/Black. The only thing it is missing is a Starbucks and a Banana Republic.
There are also several dining options. Islands, LA Foodshow, Godiva, and a yummy place in the middle of the mall ( i forget the name) that has great iced tea with free refills.
Who needs Del Amo? This mall has the best stores, sans the crap and the gangsta wanna be teenagers.
The downside is that parking is difficult to find, especially on a weekend.
I hate malls. Manhattan Village is one of the few exceptions. (Avenue of the Peninsula is the other exception....my second favorite.) Manhattan Village boasts some 80 shops - all the big name retailers are represented including Victoria's Secret, Coach, and of course there's an Apple Store. This mall has ample parking.....no hassles finding a space. The mall is immaculately clean and remarkable uncrowded. No mobs of people, no lines, no obnoxious noise levels. There are comfy couches and stuffed chairs in seating areas throughout. Restaurants are everywhere, in and around the mall. As malls go, this is first rate.
For high end shopping, you cant beat this mall. Its the beverly center that is not too far from home. my top pick is Sephora. They have all the fragrances, make-up and facial products you will ever need and want. The staff there is super helpful and not bitchy or stuck up at all. They have all the products of department stores and more. DKNY Be Delicious was my first find there and I cant live without it. They even have strange trend fragrances like Chocolate covered Starwberry, Cotton Candy, Passion Fruit, Pineapple and more. Dont go to Sephora with too much time on your hands because you can do some serious damage to your credit card. Try products by Benefit, DKNY, Makeup Foever, Nars and Urban Decay.
Set back unassumingly from the corner of PCH and Rosecrans, this center has enough stores to keep you occupied for a few hours without being overwhelming. Large lot, love the back entrance/exit off of Rosecrans.
If you have ever attempted shopping at The Galleria, this shopping center is like heaven. Easy parking, friendly employees (for the most part), and a good, if small, selection of quality shops.
nice place to hang out with grandma! hehehe It's a nice mall but is not a target 4 young adults. It's convenient to go here because there are a lot of places to go eat after the little shoping that you can do here. (p.s. don't go to joey's bbq) Also whatever bank you need its here as well. ok...moving forward...nice mall if you are not looking to buy a lot of things.
It's been years since I've been to the Manhattan Beach Mall. I remember that I used to think it sucked, but they really seem to have improved with some great new stores. It's a compact mall with only one level, but there is a nice combination of the stores you find in every mall (Gap, Bath & Bodyworks, Victoria's Secret), plus some stores that you don't usually find (Soma Intimates, Lucy). There's only one department store - Macy's, with Macy's Home at the other end. If you just want to get in and out, this is probably the mall for you.
If you're looking for a huge selection and lots of choices, this is NOT the mall to go to. The only department store they have is Macy's (although it is one of the nicer Macy's I've been to) and I prefer malls with lots of department stores because that is where you usually find the good deals. If you love a bargain this is not the place to go. A lot of the stores are kind of expensive except for the Gap and Express. It's a nice place to go if you want to avoid crowds, but I prefer dealing with crazy people to overpaying for things.
The real reason I keep going to the mall is the restaurants. They have an Island's, The Corner Bakery, and California Pizza Kitchen just to name a few (and the best ones).
I've been coming here since the 80's when I worked in the area. A nice classy mall with an excellent collection of high end shops. A theater is close by with many restaurants, banks, etc.
loves it!
has a good macy's, and a couple of nice little "cheapies" (no name inexpensive boutique stores).
parking can suck!
i used to work around the corner and it has quite a few little spots to eat for lunch or great for a little lunchtime retail therapy. on top of it, there's a diane's in the parking lot
awww yea-yuh!!
I describe this mall as the perfect place for the stay-at-home-mom. No offense meant by it...I shop there and I ain't no momma! However, there isn't much there for men...but I think that's why they put a Mac store in there (not that women don't love this place too)...the only other place for dudes is the Macy's Men's store at the other end of the mall from the Macy's Women's store. Good for basic stuff...but I don't think anyone could spend a whole day there...unless they walk really, really, really slow or have a stroller and little ones! ;)
