Having worked in the neighborhood for the past 3 years, Manhattan Diner has become a staple in my lunch time line up. The service is reliable, quick, and friendly.

Try the Mexican Fiesta Salad---- hint: asked for the onions on it grilled. It'll change your world :)

Food? Not so great. Bagged mixed greens constituted a salad, and prosciutto so tough and dry I had to ask for a steak knife to cut my sandwich into a manageable size. And is that Kraft Italian dressing? C'mon now.

Atmosphere? Dive city. The floors and windows were filthy, but at least the plates and utensils were clean. I liked the big windows, and its location - good people-watching spot.

Service? EXCELLENT. GREAT. My waiter was extremely nice and attentive. I never had to ask for a refill once on my coffee. The coffee, by the way, is delicious.

So yeah, this place is okay.... kinda.

I guess.

The worst diner I've ever been to. I'd rather hang out with Charon for a day and I'd even ferry the dead myself instead of eating at the Manhattan Diner again.

To be fair, I ate at this wretched establishment at about six in the morning after a long night of drinking and poker. I had three friends from California visiting and naturally, at that hour, we set out to find a decent breakfast. However, I don't really enjoy breakfast foods at any hour, and my friends too were looking for something other than eggs and toast.

Thus, after walking around the upper west side for half an hour or so, we took our chances with the diner and settled in. When the water came by, I ordered the chicken fried steak. The waiter informed me that this choice wasn't available. Then, I ordered something else (I can't recall what it was) and that too wasn't availabe. My friends had the same problem. So in the end, we spent about 25 minutes ordering because we couldn't really order anything on the damn menu. I finally settled for a BLT, out of frustration, and hoped for the best.

THE FOOD SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was the worst sandwich I've ever had (wilted lettuce, sunburned tomatoes) and their "pickles" weren't even brined long enough. Wet cucumbers are not pickles! They are not pickles! They are not pickles! My friends and I walked home without saying much. We were angry, and still were, when we woke up in the afternoon. My friends decided this was the worst meal they've ever eaten in the city and I would have to agree.

Order delivery regularly from here. Reliable, speedy delivery whether it's 6pm or 3am (few places you can say that about). Not many other choices you have up here for late night food, so this place definitely gets some additional points for sticking it out all day and night.

Food is exactly what you expect from a diner. Huge, monstrous portions. So much variety you never know what to get. I get the Chicken Fettucine usually (which btw, is as good as any Italian restaurant's) and eat it in 2 servings. So prices may seem bit high, but for the quantity of food, totally worth it. Have also gotten couple other dishes, all solid.

In my opinion best diner in UWS, have not been disappointed. Late night service is huge, don't know what I'd do without them when I'm hungry at 2am on a Saturday...

Definitely a very "Manhattan" diner, not the sprawling ones we have in Queens.  Small and big at the same time.

We showed up at 3am and got prompt service.

Me and my boy split a a sampler starter platter (cheese sticks, bacon potato cheddar boats, chicken fingers, fries and wings that we substituted and got extra chix fingers) and matching ginger ales.

My friend and another friend both said "the food doesn't taste like anything".  It's not as salty as most diners, which hell, I appreciate.  The food was great except for the bacon potato cheddar boats, they were a little burnt.  But overall, enjoyable for 50% of my table, and the others were unimpressed.

When me and the BF took our trip to NYC we didn't want to spend a whole lot of money, but we didn't want to sacrifice taste.  I really enjoyed the Manhattan Diner, it reminded me of the diners back at home.  It wasn't expensive at all, and I think I remember coming here everyday that we were here. It helps that it was across the street from our hotel.  The service was standard, but you shouldn't expect much from a diner.  There were some other places around, but we were definitely happy coming to this place.

I like diners, and this one certainly get on the list of favorites!  I've been in some divey diners, including one near NYU in the West Village which has since closed.  Wah.  This one, however, is a *nice* diner with reasonable prices.

We came here on Sunday for a late lunch and it turns out they were still serving brunch.  The place was packed but we were able to get a round booth/table in the back.  Most of the party ordered brunch stuff but I went for the burger - the California burger with avocado, sprouts, cheddar cheese, bacon, etc.  All of that on the burger was a better value than just getting a bacon cheese burger or something.  I personally think a burger should automatically come with fries - not as an additional add-on for more money!!  So that part wasn't a good deal.

Still, I was in burger heaven when it came.  My mom was able to substitute regular fries for her home fries so I was able to eat my burger, fries, and a shared strawberry shake (not very big in half a cup).  The meat was good, the toppings, everything.

I was only able to eat half the burger but the other half was a blessing later when I ate it at the ghetto Radisson we stayed at.  Phew!

This review is for brunch which is by far the most common time I've been here. It can get very busy on the weekends with people queuing out the door but the turn over is pretty quick to long as there's four or less of you it's worth the wait. I think it's worth the wait as it's my favorite place for bunch that I've found in NY (plus is near to home). My picks are the eggs (poached) + sausage, corned beef hash and the Belgian waffle with whipped cream and fruit (I'd avoid the multi grain waffle, waaaaaaay too healthy). Even though it's busy at the weekends the service is always good. I would not say the food is always perfect, again maybe as they're so busy but if they make a mistake they are happy to fix it. Prices are also good especially if you go for one of the specials. I've also been there in the evening for a slice of pie which was pretty good too. Not been at 3am so can't vouch for them at that time in the morning but then again what do you expect at 3am?!?

You know. Diner food. Good for middle of the night dining and wake up calls. I def. think I saw the rough edges of this place.

My friend's burger did not come out correctly, cooked wrong with the wrong kind of cheese. He also said it just wasn't very good.

My fruit salad was a lot of melon and some not so ripe other stuff. The eggs I got were ok - but the hashbrowns weren't my fave. Kinda dry. Kinda without flavor.

The prices were your usual Manhattan diner fare - a few dollars more than you should be paying considering the simplicity of all the ingredients.

Next time I go the Museum of Natural History and find myself hungry, I'm getting a pretzel or trying somewhere new.

Boo.

I've tried this place a couple times for breakfast.  The pancakes were pretty good and came w/ a lot of fruit.  The eggs were ok.  The multi-grain waffle was near inedible.

I plan on sticking with Big Nick's or Viand for my UWS diner needs....

The Mexican Burger here was pretty great - thick slices of avocado, salsa and pepper jack cheese, cooked just like I asked, and lots of fries (for $2.50 more, grumble, grumble...) It was so big I almost didn't finish it, but I did and my stomach was sore for a while with all the good food I had eaten ;)

This was a real find! Across from our hotel and open all night, Manhattan diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner 24/7.

In the 5 days I was in NYC I had a waffle,  chicken souvlaki, a burger and a couple of desserts. Also I tried the matzo ball soup. All were quite good, and very reasonably priced for Manhattan.

The two desserts, Boston cream pie and seven layer cake were just OK. They used a chocolate with rum that just didn't do it for me.

And to top it off, on my last night, I had an egg cream! Only 2.50 and pretty good.

Ok, so imagine this scenario:

Your flight from Washington, DC is delayed THREE HOURS and you finally arrive on the Upper West Side at midnight, starving and cranky.  Room service from Nice Matin has ended.  You intend on walking to an all night diner to find something to eat, but once you get to the hotel, the lovely concierge tells you about delivery from the Manhattan Diner into the hotel.

You call.  You are too tired to realize there's a menu in the hotel book, so you ask what your options are.  The guy on the line is like "it's a diner.  We got sandwiches, burgers..."  You say, "Give me a cheeseburger.  And fries."

Twenty glorious minutes later, the best cheeseburger you have ever tasted arrives, with all the trimmings and American cheese on the top and bottom bun, just how you like it.  You are so happy to see the burger at 12:30, that you tip the delivery guy 40%.

The (delicious) end.

This place really deserves some good reviews!
I had breakfast, and some late night snacks there. All were delish, not to mention REALLY reasonably priced!
Their waffles are good, as is the matzo ball soup, chicken souvlaki, and seven layer cake.
I actually liked their seven-layer cake, and matzo ball soup better here  than at  Carnegie Deli.
I would absolutely return here next time I'm in NYC!

DRY BUFFALLO BURGER

I ordered it medium RARE and it came delivered WELL DONE. Steak fries were super SOGGY and the cole slaw wasn't spectacular. If you're dining IN --- it's a FAR better experience. Definitely order some cheesecake --- you won't be disappointed.

Good neighborhood 24/7 spot. The corned beef hash and eggs are my favorite. Typical diner service--spotty and slow.
