Fond memories of times on the sandy white beach...sipping Jamba Juices in the summer heat...window shopping with the gals...late night chats at the 24 hour restaurant...
Manhattan Beach is great for locals and tourists alike!

Over all, a great little pier that's tucked away from the crowds. Makes for an excellent night time stroll. It's not going to be as big as Santa Monica's pier, but on the flip side, you'll be able to find parking and avoid the mass amounts of people by coming here and still enjoy the dark waves making that soothing noise as they come crashing to the shore line.
The last time I was there someone's dog took a massive dump right next to the sign that said no pets. Cops swooped in and ticketed them. I suppose that's a good thing to be on top of. Don't want to be all romantic on a date and then step into a big pile of dog crap. That is hardly something I call as keeping the mood going.
The shops around here are also great for a bite to eat. You have a wide selection of shops and with the parking being pretty decent, you can actually enjoy yourself.
The beach itself is also really clean. I mean, really really clean. It sort of has the feeling of a mini-beach community in that they actually care about the sea and the contents near it. You get a very Santa Cruz lite going with all this. Without all the ex-hippies.. well, you still get a lot of those. But you get the idea. They actually care about the beach here and that's A-okay for me!

Amazing place to watch the sunset....romantic...!!! (heart) Recommended!
One of the most beautiful beaches in the greater LA area. Friendly locals, and lots of shops nearby. I went by over Labor Day weekend and had a blast. Grabbed a few meals at the local restaurants on the strand. Couldn't have asked for a better few days
This Beach Is One Of My Favorites!
It's CLEAN! = D
The Sand Is Soft And White. It's A Long Stretch So You'll Always Find Space To Relax!
On A Good Day, You'll See Dolphins On The Beach And An Amazing Sunset!
A lot Of Volleyball Here.
A lot Of Girls.
A lot Of Nice Shops & Restaurants As Well.
Good Luck With Parking Though.......
On my last trip to LA, my friend brought us to this lovely stretch of sand. I had told her that I didn't want to see those awful ashtray-like beaches that they have in Los Angeles. I thought I had already been to this one, but it turns out that it just really looks like Huntington.
One thing I'm not a fan of, was how hard it was to find parking. We drove in what felt like endless circles before FINALLY finding a spot. I thought the beach would be overly crowded, but since its such a long stretch, we had plenty of room to lay out and enjoy the sun.
I was in awe of all the beautiful houses lining the beach front. Those places must cost a grip and had me thinking about stealing some lawn furniture.
All in all, it was a pretty nice spot with a long walking path and I wouldn't mind going again.

Lucky for me, it was a beautiful day when I visited Manhattan Beach. The beaches in So Cal are way nicer than the ones in SF! They are really clean (beach and the water) and there are actually tons of people out and about. I loved how we were just able to walk down the long pier to enjoy the waves and watch the surfers. It totally reminded me of Baywatch when I was there for some reason.
There was a beach volleyball tournament (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) going on I think when I went which was pretty cool to see. The view was amazing too (http://www.yelp.com/bi... was so picturesque and made me want to frolick in the waves! Too bad we weren't dressed properly to do that but I was glad to just get some sun.
There was also a small aquarium at the end of the pier and many restaurants, bars, and shopping in the vicinity.

This beach is great for tourists, but after being there for a while I felt like I really wanted to live RIGHT THERE, so I imagine its great for locals as well. Plenty of (paid) parking near the beach. A huge pro is that EVERYTHING you could need is within walking distance. Lots of restaurants to choose from after you've been swimming and laying out the whole day. Neat little aquarium that has free admission too. The only thing I didn't like was that there were SO many people there! It was summer, but geez there was nowhere you could be without being right next to someone else. Still, best friend and I had so much fun. Obviously locals probably know where the less crowded beaches are. Great California experience for someone who lives in a desert and only gets to see an ocean about once a year. It just seems like the crowd that gathers here is really down to earth and friendly.
Nice view, beautiful people, gorgeous sunsets, fresh air and cool vibes.

Manhattan Beach is picturesque: clean shoreline, bright sands - and what a view of the ocean! (The Pier isn't bad either, but spent more time on the beach itself.)
It was a sunny day, and the place was chock full of sunbathers, swimmers, surfers, cute girls, and folks playing volleyball. I even met a hardcore sandcastle builder (friend of a friend) who constructed a HUGE castle complete with steps, an arch, and an amphitheater. It was a little windy, but the clear skies made up for it. Manhattan Beach is probably my favorite social beach that I've been to lately. If scenery is what you want, try the beaches in San Diego.
Note you can't drink (alcohol) on the beach, so keep that in mind. Not an issue for us since a friend's place was a short walk away - don't want to imagine how much he pays to live there!

I love this beach so much!
It is so clean, volleyball nets, with friendly gorgeous people!
I brought a canopy, 5 of my best friends, a blanket, food, and beverages and the mindset to swim.
I went into the water and was coaxed by a friend to swim behind the waves to the calmer waters.Unfortunately, I got caught in a rip currant and realized that no matter how hard I swam back to the shore, I was being pulled out to sea. My friend who was swimming with me was trying to drag me back in but couldn't.
I looked toward the shore and saw two lifeguards watching us. The lifeguards waved to us to come back but it was to late. They ran into the water and swam to us and pulled us out!
I was relieved! Thank you Manhattan Beach Lifeguards for saving my life!!!!!!!

My favorite beach in Socal. Very clean and not super-packed. We went a couple of weeks ago, the water was wonderfully warm! One downside is the parking, all metered and there are only two small parking lots off of Manhattan Beach Blvd. across the pier. We were lucky to get a spot in one of the lots. Bring quarters to feed the meters!
Also If you have lots of stuff to bring to the beach like tents, coolers, etc., make sure you lift some weights or carb load the night before because you will need your muscles...its a hell of a walk from the parking lot to the beach, esp. when there is an event like kayak racing going on. Sweat your balls off, then jump into the water!

Out for a jog on the beach and came across a model shoot under the pier. Good timing!
There were about 20 Bud Light volleyball nets set up, so either I missed something cool earlier in the day, or I'll be missing something cool tomorrow.
I love this area! Hot chicks jogging, biking and roller-blading.

"Lobby, 15 minutes," I heard Coworker #1 say to Coworker #2, as she stepped up to the LAX-area hotel check-in desk and the rest of us headed toward the elevator.
Fifteen minutes later, having changed into jeans and a T-shirt, I looked out of the glass-walled elevator and saw Coworker #3 down there, huddled over his free mediocre drink.
I think he saw me too, but I was not on my way to join him. I figured there had to be something better to do with my evening than sitting in the atrium of a sickly pink hotel imbibing, immoderately, middle-grade liquor.
"Can I walk to the beach from here?" I asked the guy at the front desk.
If I did the sun would be going down by the time I got there, he said, but there was a free shuttle leaving from around the corner in 15 minutes.
"Perfect!" I said, and ran out the door before anyone could stop me.
I am not given to such bubbliness, but that was not the first uncharacteristically enthusiastic utterance I ended up attaching to this experience.
When I got back to the hotel, I found that Coworker #2 had left me a rather irritated-sounding message asking what my plans were for the evening.
I called her. "I went to the beach!!!" I said.
"How was it?"
"It was great!!!"
Next morning I took a taxi with Coworker #1. "I heard you went to the beach," he said.
"It was wonderful!!!" said I, and expounded my theory on how since if I go to the beach in jeans I end up wet to my hips, and if in shorts wet up to the waist, if I went skinny-dipping I would drown.
Lately, I feel I do nothing but complain and complain and complain, but that evening the sun was going down over the water and my toes dug into the sand, the surf came swirling up around my knees and there were container ships anchored in the pink glow just off shore, a pelican flapped along the horizon, and I was glad my company sent me to California.

Beautiful. Not too busy or packed... What more can one want from a beach?
Pretty clean too... for also being in the city and all....
ALSO FAB FARMERS MARKET! We just happened to run into, but fresh citrus on the beach makes life happy.
(helluva sunburn though... lol)

I give the beach five stars, the pier four because it is a pier.
Alright, as far as piers go (and I am not usually a fan) this one is the best. It is clean and not too touristy (at least it doesn't overly try to cater exclusively to tourists like the churro laden Redondo Beach pier).
Manhattan Beach is beautiful. The beach is west facing so you always get an awesome sunset and the some of the best water quality in So. Cal. The sand is clean and softer than at some other beaches in the area (I'm looking at you Long Beach).

This is definitely one of the beaches that I love love in Southern California. It is not overly crowded on hot summer days and there are plenty of things to do. There's beach volleyball, frisbees, sunbathing, oooh and the best thing is, I can walk around and collect sea shells that are WHOLE. not broken in half or fourths, but nice little whole ones. It is a quick walk from their downtown area where you can nibble and sip or shop. I long to live here later in life =)

Even though it was a rainy day, we had a great time watching surfers and body boarders from the pier.
The best part about Manhattan Beach Pier is the end. There is an adorable aquarium (free admission with a $2 suggested donation per person) at the end with sharks, sting rays, jellyfish, eels, tons of fishies, and more. It's definitely worth seeing.

I love the MB pier!
Its a great spot to surfer-watch and there's an amazing view in both directions on a clear day.
MB is a great little beach town complete with lots of parking and great shops and food within walking distance.

I love this beach!! This is the place for boogie boarding. It's crazy how you see dolphins here going up and down the beach, it CRAZY!! I'm from the Bay Area, so when I go to SoCal, I always end up spending a day at this beach. I tried boogie boarding at Santa Cruz, but it was soooo not the same, completely different!! It's also a DIME CITY!! LOL

Went to Manhattan last weekend for a friend's beach house party. Her house was literally on the beach and it was amazing. We played beach volleyball and even strangers joined our game so we could have 6 and 6. The water was warm and it was just a great experience. The only downside is it's hard to find parking around the area unless you park at the meters.

its 3pm on a Monday afternoon and im pissed off that i wasnt at the beach and in the water yet. but by the time we finally drove into town and pulled right into a parking space in front of the pier i felt a little better.
everything is metered parking, but at this time of day you could just keep putting quarters in every 2 hrs and your car wouldnt get towed.
it happened to be overcast and there were hardly any people on the shore. but for me, thats perfect. the sun doesnt burn your skin and the people dont aggravate you. once i got in the water it was surprisingly not freezing, so with a boogie board in-tow i tried to catch some waves. jeesus, the waves hit hard. i wiped out once and had to catch my breath. i didnt stay that long in the water but it was an awesome to just lay out and soak in the little bit of rays that were out.
the shops and restaurants that you pass thru to get to the beach are very eclectic. i get a feeling of a hip and home-y town (thats rich) and they like to kick back with a drink in their hand... and maybe play some volleyball with the 50 posts they have set up all along the beach.
i would definitely visit again, hopefully on a sunnier day.

It's a beautiful sight from the top of the hill, during the day or lit up at night. The highlight of Manhattan Beach Pier is the historic 1920's roundhouse at the end of the pier, which contains a small aquarium & a restaurant. The pier offers great views of beaches and distant hills, as well as surfers. Photos say it better than words.

I slept for an hour or so on this beach last week, it was pretty peaceful since it was in the middle of the day. The beach is clean and there's a life guard on duty. I like how they're volleyball nets already set up for your use, you just need to bring the volleyball. The only thing that sucks is trying to find parking. I can't imagine how crazy the beach gets on the weekends. The houses along the beach are pretty to look at. Except it costs like an arm and a leg to live here.

I remember my HS summers were spent and this great spot. I've laid on the sand, played volleyball on the courts, roamed the shops and walked the pier a bunch of times. The feeling here is chill and the people are friendly. If I could live here I would. This is probably my favorite beach in the LA area.

I grew up in Manhattan Beach and the pier was a favorite place to go for me. Its great during a storm or just to watch the surfers. Jr Life gaurds jump off it as part of their training. I wouldnt swim near the pier though. Try 8th St or Marine.
