i was here on Saturday . . . i actually was working at a booth for a friend.
i gotta say i was really impressed with how many of those manhatanites
are preggers . . .sheesh don't they do anything else there?
the art was great, the fair wasn't overly crowded and the weather was so so
(rained on sat.)
i did happen to walk over to the section where all the kiddies were trying to win prizes . . it looked like fun . . and the food smelled great too.

I really enjoyed!

We usually go there on Saturday, but we did on Sunday this year.  We walked around a bit, but made sure to visit Beer Garden as usual.  :p

I was surprised to see there were only handful of people at Beer Garden when we got there just before noon, but then people started showing up shortly.

The weather was perfect - sunny and nice breeze, the band was playing music, beer, fresh hot dogs...it was all good.  :)

Rumor has it that their is a fair surrounding the beer garden. I find this hard to believe.

This is another great South Bay weekend. It's always the first weekend in October. It's a time that all the locals get together at the beer garden. I've been gong and running the run ever since I was a kid. it's such a good time.

Don't miss this or the 6 Man Volleyball Tournament.

I love going to the MB Old Hometown Fair.  I am not much into the arts and crafts booths but I like to look through at everything.  Most of the booth including the beer garden and wine garden's proceeds go to the Manhattan Beach school's soccer, football, tennis, baseball, lacrosse...teams.

Last year I volunteered at the wine garden and we had a very nice selection of wines and all the proceeds went to the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation.

Parking is impossible so I recommend riding a bike or taking a free shuttle from the Northrop Grumman parking lot located on Aviation Blvd just North of Manhattan Beach Blvd.  http://www.mbfair.org/

A real old-fashioned town fair.  Although today was my first time at this event, I'm told they've been putting it on for some 30 years.  This is no small affair - the craft booths extend for blocks along Valley Drive, and the food & music areas take over all of Live Oak Park (1901 Valley Drive).  The crowds and the sun were both a bit intense at times.  Parking was a nightmare, so be prepared to walk long distances.  Also, the parking police were out in force this fine Sunday afternoon, so don't even consider that angle.  Be aware that no dogs, bikes or blades are allowed on the fairgrounds & this is enforced.  Now for the good stuff:  burgers, hot dogs, roast corn, games for kids, country band (I heard Merchants of Moonshine and they were great), caramel apples, lemonade, cotton candy, donuts, funnel cakes, homemade baked goods, and much more.  The food sales benefit local organizations and clubs.  I had a cheeseburger to benefit the Mira Costa High School Symphony, Carnegie bound in April '06.  I wanted to help them a lot so it was a double cb. The extensive craft fair had some decent handmade stuff, perfect for early Holiday shopping.  There were those silly carnival booths as well.  As I was leaving, a troupe of big band swing dancers were performing.  All in all, not too bad of a day.  I returned to my car with ketchup on my t-shirt, onions on my breath, grass stains on my pants, sunburn on my neck, gum on my shoe and the thought that it had been a rather delightful autumn afternoon.
