Review from Lee L.
I think they've changed their name to "New" Mandarin Noodle Deli.
Service is pretty bad here, but honestly, I still love the food.
Spicy seafood noodles are a must, BUT you have to eat it there. When you get it to go, you don't get as much broth.
Lunchtime on the weekends is always packed, so go when they open at 11am.
They now accept Debit cards.
Other yummy items:
Green onion pancakes
Dumplings ( you really can't mess up on dumplings though)
Beef noodle soup
I prefer knife cut noodles over hand pulled, but whatever floats your boat.Listed in: Homey food

I don't know about previous reviews, but this restaurant is very crowded and dirty. Just sitting there makes me uncomfortable.
We ordered:
Pi-Dong: oily
Spicy seafood noodles
Vegetable knife cut noodle
Both of them have no flavors at all.
I added a lot of vinegar and soy sauce but they made no difference...
The only thing good is the fried dumplings. -
Review from Wan L.
The beef stew noodle is tasty! The broth is full of flavor (not oily), the beef is tender and there's lots of veggies. Me likes! The portions are huge! One bowl can probably feed 2 ppl. For noodle dishes you get to choose from 5 different types of noodles. I went with the knife cut noodles. It was good! The noodles were thick and chewy! Very filling. For appetizers, we ordered cucumbers and the beancurd/cucumber/peanut dish. Both dishes were kinda bland. They need to add more vinegar! Good thing there was vinegar and soy sauce on the table. We also ordered the pork fried dumplings. It was okay. There was too little filling and too much skin...boo! Service was okay and the servers were nice.
Plenty of parking out in front and behind the restaurant. Get there before 6:30pm to avoid the dinner rush.Listed in: Oodles of Noodles!

Review from Jean L.
I love to scour the area for hand-made noodles. This is one of those places that still make them.
The Taiwanese cold side dishes are authentic and quite good. Some of my favorites:
- Sliced pig ear
- Sliced bean curd with minced scallions
- Bean curd noodles with sliced carrots
I also get the seaweed, but it needs more flavor. A little sliced ginger in this dish would go a long way.
Mandarin Noodle Deli is known for its flour-based dishes (dumplings and noodles) and the beef-cilantro roll for some odd reason. I don't recommend the roll, because it's not as tasty as it is visually appealing.
The Beef Noodle Soup is good, but it needs a little something extra. More spice? Heat? Some acidity? The noodles are delicious though. You can never go wrong with hand-made noodles. I'll probably try the knife-cut next time. Overall, a great place to depend on for your noodles. Noodles, noodles, noodles.Listed in: Beef Noodle Soup, What do you call a fake…

Solid hand-made Chinese noodles, buns (bao), and flour-based foods! Carbohydrate-loading galore!
Visited the "New Mandarin Noodle Deli" on a personal recommendation since it was on the way to where I was going. Not bad at all.
This place specializes in flour/wheat-based foods that typify Northern/Northwestern Chinese cuisine. On this occasion, I ordered their beef noodle soup (red/dark style) with hand-rolled noodles. Good stuff and huge portions. Bowls of noodles are monstrous here, so do consider sharing with a second person!
Tip: Try different noodle styles -- all hand-made -- ranging from "knife-cut" to "hand-pulled" to "hand-rolled" noodles.
The sin-jian-bao (pan-fried meat buns) were excellent and had a rustic, home-style taste. One order included 8 large buns, larger than what most comparable restaurants (e.g. Supreme Dragon) usually serve. I was happy.
The menu also offers lots of other foods that fellow Yelpers have reviewed. Offerings seem solid and I would definitely come back.
Service: Acceptable and average for a Chinese/Asian joint. I once again applied my standard eating philosophy to Chinese establishments -- ORDER, ENJOY FOOD, PAY, LEAVE. (If you can achieve all these objectives with minimal hassle, then it's a successful outing...this also justifies my never tipping more than 15% **unless** the service + food are both extraordinary!)
Ambiance: Cafe-style eating and simple, with big, open windows. Not particularly intimate or cozy, but looked clean with lots of open seating. (It felt like a Vietnamese pho join, but cleaner.)
Rating: 3+ stars for good, solid food and acceptable service. Food not quite good enough to rate 4 stars, but maybe next time?
Bottom line -- this is one place worth trying out if you're in the San Gabriel Valley and looking for good noodles, buns, stuffed rolls, etc. Chow-down here if you're running a marathon the next day! ;-) -
Review from astrid s.
West Covina, CA
Hubby would give this place a four because he loves him some dumplings, and since his beloved Dumpling Master closed for good, he will frequent this place often.
I add soy sauce and vinegar to everything here, think it needs a bit more oomph/flavor. Hubby's dad said that they don't use MSG here, and therefore, it's cleaner. I, for one, am for flavors, so please feed me some MSG if that's what it takes. I've eaten plenty during my lifetime, and all the blood and urine tests came out excellent as of last week.
I ordered the beef wrap, and .. it's beef with hoisin. It's sweet.. think it's meant to be this way. Think it's the adult in me that wants the spectrum of flavors.. (in goes the vinegar... add tad bit of soy sauce.. okay.. better.)
The lamb soup with handcut noodles. Ahh the noodles are so chewy and good.. The broth.. in goes the vinegar, dash of soy sauce.. there.. better.
The knife cut noodles, fried with seafood. Ahh.. the noodles are so good and chewy... but.. in goes the vinegar and soy sauce..
The fried dumplings are really really good. The skin is thin and the flavors right.. no correction needed. This is wayyyy better than Michelle's Pancake and Beijing Pie House dumplings in terms of flavor. But... where everybody else gets lucky and picks up one with the skin intact and the juice inside.. I always picked ones with no juice. So really, fifty fifty on whether you'll get this as it was meant to be.. juicy skin intact.
The Fried Bao sucks.. unless you like a LOT of bao skin. But whereas, the proportion of the meat to the skin is perfect in dumplings.. the Bao is like 90% bao, 10% filling. And I don't see what the point of frying the bottom of the bao is.. like.. leave it steamed.. that's fine.
Anyways, the noodles texture is good.. the flavors to me is kinda mild and shy. So... three stars.. a ok. -
Review from Andrew M.
I finally came around to trying Mandarin Noodle Deli after seeing all my friends in high school bring it back from their lunch break. I must say, it was definitely a good value.
The portions are generous, the prices are kind to your wallet, and the overall transaction time is fairly swift. I can see why high school kids would end up here for lunch.
They offer 6 different types of noodles for your choosing to go with your dish(es), a number of which are hand cut. While hand cut noodles are of fresher quality than factory-made ones, I found the hand cut noodles to be a little too chewy for my taste; I felt the meal was bogged down a bit by the need to chew with more effort than I would have liked. (I just realized I sound super lazy right here, but I assure you it's essential to your experience.)
The main detraction I could say is that the hand cut noodles do not hold up over time. We took them home and heated the leftovers for dinner, but both of our noodles ended up soggy and very bitter-tasting. -
Review from Julie T.
It's on the corner of one of the many busy streets in Temple City. Not really much to look forward to as far as decor or ambiance goes. BUT really? What Chinese places have off-the-hook decor? lol
The place has 3 or 4 waitresses, small place with about I'd say 20-30 tables. They were all full and the waitresses couldn't handle all those people. This is with no extra customers waiting to be seated.
All of those waitresses failed to bring us table settings and most importantly tea for the first 20minutes since we sat down. They brought the menu twice and forgot to take it back. They forgot the chopsticks until we asked for them. What the heck are we supposed to eat with? Our feet?
As if that wasn't irritating enough, the place wreaked of Chow Tofu. For those who doesn't know, it's deep fried fermented/rotten/expired tofu. It smells like stinky feet. For some reason, a lot of people ordered Chow Tofu, maybe it's good? I'll be sure to check that out next time.
Anyways, we got onion pancake, beef noodle soup, cold noodle, Shiu-long bao (it's steamed dumpling with some sort of juice/soup inside the dumpling), and pan-fried dumpling. The onion pancake was def not special. The noodles were a bit of a shocker because 1. you get to choose the type of noodle you want (hand-pulled, knife cut, etc.) 2. The texture and all was surprisingly good and complimented the noodle soup dishes quite nicely. The Shiu-long bao was horrible. It had no juice/soup inside, it was dried out, and it had holes. =( I didn't even get to try the pan-fried dumpling because they either forgot or they had to go out and catch a pig to make it. Had to cancel since it never made it to our table.
I'd probably go back for noodles when I'm around but definitely not my choice of places to eat. -

This place is your normal Mandarin noodle type place. They have things like dumplings, spicy beef noodle soup, knife cut noodles, and beef rolls. The food is really good if not pretty greasy and carb heavy. The food is good but nothing spectacular. But I would recommend coming here if you're hungry and don't want to spend too much money.
As with most Chinese restaurants, don't expect friendly service. But they'll take your order and bring your food out fast with no hassle. -

I was up in L.A. visiting with a friend when she asked me to go out to lunch with her. She was thumbing through L.A. Magazine and came across an article about a guy who makes all these different kinds of noodles by hand at Mandarin Noodle Deli. I like places like this that maintain old traditions of cooking.
So we decided to try Mandarin Noodle Deli. Not the greatest name for a restaurant and not the greatest decor inside, but the food was fantastic.
You choose the dish you want and the types of noodles you want in the dish. It doesn't matter what you get because the noodles are really the star of the food. They are chewy and firm and taste amazing. I had a vegetarian noodle soup and it was fantastic. If it weren't so far from where I live and work, I would go back there on a regular basis. A definite must check out. -
Review from Eri S.
Came here on a saturday afternoon with no wait. Ordered dumplings, green onion pancake, spicy seafood noodles, cilantro noodles, and beef rolls (...which was more than enough food for five people).
All was swell until our waitress delivers our seafood noodles, which weren't the spicy ones that we had asked for. We point out that our order was wrong and she gets all defensive and all of a sudden starts yelling at us about how we said that we didn't want spicy when we in fact pointed to the picture with spicy noodles -__- this goes on for a good minute or so until we're like, ...so can we do something about it? and she angrily takes our bowl while b*tching about it in mandarin to the other waitresses... awkwaaaard! Never have I seen such horrible service, even though its kinda expected at chinese restaurants...But it's like, calm yo a**. You can just add the freaking spices, not even a big deal... anyway, that was pretty unpleasant! Not even a mandarin speaker so I just sat there awkwardly like wtf is going on... o.o
Anyway, the food was mediocre! The beef rolls were pretty bland, the green onion pancakes were soggy (not crispy like I like 'em), the dumplings weren't served hot, and the noodles were a-ok.
Ended up being like $7 per person, which was pretty cheap. But DEFINITELY not going back again. Horrible service + meh food. Didn't understand why there was a crowd outside waiting to be seated as we were leaving... NOT WORTH THE WAIT. Try saving your time/energy/money on somewhere better :] At least I was with good company ^^ -

One of my best friends LOVES Mandarin Deli in a freakish obsessive way...so I've actually been to all of them. I believe they are all owned by the same family, but each restaurant is run by a different member.
Ok, I'll admit...the food isn't two stars status. The food alone probably deserves 3.5 but I loathe the service. I am usually pretty patient when it comes to service...but it's just SOO slow and inefficient here....
I may be wrong, but it seems like the owner of the restaurant is the ONLY one that is allowed to take orders and handle money while the other waitresses can only clean and serve. This slows down service, especially during busy times! If you need to pay, you have to wait FOREVER for the owner.
The food is pretty good, I especially like the noodles. However, it is a bit oily. I'd say that the food and prices are not bad, but the services makes this place hard to bear. -

Came here on a Thursday night.
I ordered the meat dumplings. My sister and friend ordered the beef noodle soup. They got their orders really quickly, and after fifteen minutes of waiting for my order to come out, we were told (after having to flag down a server) that my order just wasn't ready. I don't know whether they were taking time to defrost the dumplings or were making them from scratch. I would like to believe the latter. Hmm...
Oh, okay. You could've told me that earlier so I wouldn't have had to send you death glares for believing that you forgot to put in my order.
My dumplings were good. They were pan fried and oily, just the way I like them. I enjoyed the crunchy yet chewy skin. The pork filling was tiny and nothing special. It's okay. I liked it overall. I tried some of the beef noodle soup by sister had ordered. The beef was soft and sinewy at the same time and it had a good amount of flavor due to the anise-flavored broth it had been sitting in. It was typical, but good.
The servers looked uninterested whenever they made their rounds around the room to tend to the patrons, but they were adequate enough as far as customer service goes. We drank a butt-load of tea and our tea was refilled whenever needed. Happiness.
It is your ordinary and unassuming Chinese noodle cafe spot. You'll get honest food
I have yet to try other items on their menu. I would not mind coming back here again.Listed in: Chillin' in the SGV

When I heard about the change of ownership here, I was bummed. I really liked this noodle shop before ~ why did they have to change owners?

I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup with knife cut noodles. It was uninspired. The shear number uncrushed sichuan peppercorn-type spices ruined the meal for me, bringing it from 2 stars down to 1.
I really should not have to be picking out improperly prepared spices for the duration of my meal. -

We ordered a few dishes here in the attempt to sample many things. But out of the four items we ordered, I would only order two of them again. We ordered for take out on a Friday evening at about 8.
We ordered the beef and pancake roll, pot stickers, a stir fried noodle and a beef noodle soup. We would only order the beef roll and potstickers again. The other two dishes were nothing spectacular.
And I do have to say that their packing skills really left something to be desired. In an effort to save 2 cents on another bag, they decided to cram everything into one bag. Upon arrival at the house, 2 of the dishes had mashed together and there was sauce everywhere. The food tasted okay, but I guess you would consider this as service...and it was poor.
I would only come back to order the beef wrap and maybe the potstickers. -

HEALTH WARNING ALERT for Jia Xian Siao Guan!
We ordered meat bums without leeks. The waitress brought us a plate of meat bums. My mom and my husband each got one bum before knowing they are meat bums with leeks.
The waitress came back and told us she brought us the wrong plate. She took the bum off my mom's USED chopsticks and put it back on the plate. My husband's bum was already on his USED plate; we didn't give this bum back. The waitress immediately brought the plate to the table next to us with 7 pieces (1 piece missing). She later brought our bums (without leeks) and gave to the customer next to us one bum. She came back and told us we had to give back one piece to the other party.
It's not about $$. Making mistakes is ok. But seriously, it's about sanitation. We told the customers who got our bum about what happened. She said she was aware of it and didn't eat any bums.
I requested to speak to the owner. The owner wasn't there today. I confronted the waitress. She had an attitude and said, "What's the big deal?" This is disgusting! Disgusting!

So it seems lately I am getting around to restaurants that were famed for how good they are, but closed or sold their business to someone else before I get there. This was one of those place.
I didn't realize it until after my to go order was placed. But in any case, I thought I need to keep an open mind and give them a chance. But I was just so disappointed with the noodle I got. I got the dry noodle with house sauce and a side ordered of cold sliced beef. The food was so bland. The beef had no flavor unless you dip it in soy sauce. I normally find my food too salty, but I had to add salt to my food.....

So this place is now under new management, and is what I believe called "New Mandarin Noodle Deli." Same name, just added "New" in front of the title. The servers are different so I do think they have different cooks/staff.
I am a Beef Noodle Soup aficionado. I follow the noodle trail, but haven't been back here since the restaurant's change.
Menu:
The menu is much more extensive, and offers a wide selection of different types of noodles. For instance, knife cut, hand pulled, etc. noodles. There is also a wide selection of types of entrees from different noodle dishes, to pan fried dumplings. I think with the size of the staff, they are perhaps being a bit too ambitious with their offerings.
Food:
Ordered Beef Noodle soup with knife cut noodles. The noodles were very Q and had a great consistency. They weren't too thick or hard, just right. Soup base however was very salty and I could tell was based heavily on soy sauce. Super salty actually. Beef wraps are pretty good but the wrappi1 Previous Review: Show all »

My friends and I went to Mandarin Noodle Deli recently. We did not plan on going here but in our quest to find new places to eat, we decided to stop by. We rolled up around 9:30PM and they close at 10PM. We ordered different items of the menu and they were quite tasty. We ordered the beef cake rolls, the house special noodles, and a noodle soup. We also ordered dumplings that were good! The difference with Mandarin Noodle Deli is that they offer three different types of noodles. There was the hand pulled noodles, and the knife cut noodles. The third type is eluding me right now.
The beef cake rolls were awesome! They were a lot bigger than other places that we've been to. Our waitress was super nice and she was able to recommend different dishes when we asked. Don't worry if you don't speak Mandarin. Pointing to the menu works wonders! The dumplings were quite juicy and tasty. Add the vinegar and soy sauce on your plate to dip the dumplings in. Careful with the dumplings though, as they come out super hot.
Anyways their food was pretty good. The dining area is typical with tables strung out with chairs.
The dining area was clean but I don't know why this place has a C rating. Hopefully they're keeping everything refrigerated.
Park on the street or behind. There is plenty of street parking that has the 2 hour parking limit. -

Hacienda Heights, CA
Had Mandarin Noodle Deli for lunch and it appears that there is a new menu! Did this place change ownership?
I came here 6 months ago and the food was comparable if not better then Earthen in Rowland Heights. But today for lunch, either my taste has changed or possibly the chef, the food was still good but did not have the taste I remembered. I had the pan friend dumpling, which had the proper crust but the meat kept falling out of the dough. Onion pancakes that were overly greasy and had a flacid texture and a shrimp pork water boiled dumpling. The beef hoison pancake was good but lacked flavor.
Overall I was a little disappointed considering I drove out from Rowland Heights. To be fair, the food is still good but not 10 mile drive west good. I should have just gone to Earthen. -

This is one of the only places I can find that has hand pulled noodles, but the flavor is not up to par. The beef stew noodle is bland and the meat in the pot stickers are sour. In short, food sucked. I came on a hot summer day hoping that there would be AC, but to my sweaty disappointment, I couldn't feel anything. The only reason this place has 2 stars from me is because the waitresses are really nice.

I occasionally return to this restaurant to fulfill the cravings of the well known Pan Fried Dumplings and the Beef Cake Rolls but much to my dismay this restaurant has surely gone down in service as well as quality.
Each time I come back I expect the place to hopefully change my views or somehow uplift my spirits especially suffering plenty of bad experiences here, but it has finally reached it last straw on my most recent visit last week and I don't think I can return. Unfortunately, the restaurant's service is very poor as it lacks waiters and waitresses willing to serve and accommodate the needs of the customer and other tables around us. I found my most recent visit discomforting especially with food arriving late and lack of courtesy given to not only our table but others.
Waiting for a long time for our food, I had seen the following: 1) a couple entering the restaurant waiting to be seated and five minutes later leave the place because they were not greeted or even acknowledged for that matter to be seated 2) parents and a baby requesting what happened to the food they ordered because they noticed that while sitting in the center, everyone around them has been continuing to be served except for them 3) a family given food, then a waiter returning to their table to apologize and take a plate to provide it to another table 4) a family waiting at the register to pay for the food to-go but continued to wait for a prolonged amount of time because the staff are too preoccupied with other things.
I just was disappointed with each of the situations especially since I was able to observe these things cause my food hadn't arrived yet.
However, for the food that my friends and I had ordered. Some of it was fresh, especially the pan fried dumplings not so much the beef cake rolls but having been there quite a few times before I can honestly say the quality has gone down. The dumplings have gotten smaller and beef cake rolls are less meat more cilantro and other things that simply changed my outlook of this place.
I just lost faith in this place especially as it declines in service and quality every time I come here. Guess this is the end of the road. -

Update: Apparently Yelp really liked my prior review that the original owner's son found us through Yelp and personally invited us through e-mail about his mother's restraurant reopening in Temple City (a few blocks away from the original one). We don't find the particular need to elaborate on the food, as the menu is exactly the same as before, and there are plenty of reviews to start the restaurant (House of Mandarin Noodle) properly on Yelp again:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Needless to say, we've visited the restuarant several times since the reopening, and we're super happy that the owner lady got bored of retirement so quickly. Words travel quickly when a good restaurant opens, the restaurant is packing and the line is out the door again upon our more recent visits.
As for the old location? A decent noodle place (New Mandarin Noodle Deli) is surviving pretty well per a recent visit. Funny how they have since put up a "nice big sign in front" announcing the change of ownership since our last review (see below, wonder if they got the memo). However, Yelp doesn't seem to offer a separate entry for the new place. We'll go start the restaurant on Yelp properly...1 Previous Review: Show all »

The food is good but not great. We've come here twice. The second time here we got the steamed seafood dumpling, pan fried meat dumpling, red bean pancake and knife cut noodles with chicken. The red bean pancake was delicious but they didn't put the red bean on about 1/4 of the pancake. The seafood and meat dumplings were average. The noodles were thick and chewy, I liked it but not the wife. We liked the service but some of the waitresses have a hard time understanding English. The low star rating is the amount of MSG used in the dishes. The wife is sensitive to it and gets really bad headaches. I also get headaches but I have to consume alot of it. We both ended up with headaches that day.

Yum. Great food. Love the lamb chops, Beef Cake Rolls, and Dao Xiao Mian.
Service: We spoke in English to them and they were just as helpful. Nether one of us felt like practicing our broken Chinese. Order everything at once cause it's your typical no frills Chinese restaurant (aka never going to see the wait staff again till you have to wave them down for the check).
Parking: there are lots you can park in back and the next block over. There is also street parking.
Price: Everything is around $6-$10 on avg.
Payment: Cash only.
Overall: Love this place but the park around the area can get filled up during peak hours. I usually go before or after peak hours. -

My friend brought me here for dinner when I was visiting her and her hubby. This apparently is one of their fav places.
Decent Chinese place. We ordered the beef noodle soup, the dumplings, and a few milk teas. I spoke in broken Chinglish and somehow managed to get hooked up with a free milk tea :D
Everything was pretty good and the food came out fairly quickly. I'll have to come back to try the beef wrap roll that seems pretty popular -

***** UPDATE! *******
The FCKING AWESOME Mandarin Noodle Deli in this spot is closed. The owner sold it to someone else, who renamed it New Mandarin Noodle Deli. (how clever)
MND SUCKS NOW!!! They don't have the signature spicy peanut noodles. They don't have the signature spicy beef noodle soup... and their green onion pancake is wack!!! BRING BACK THE OLD OWNERS AND OLD CHEF PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
I will not be returning to this place again. I'm gonna find out what happened to the old owners. Maybe they're opening up in a different location? I HOPE SO!!!!Listed in: SGV ballin on a budget!…

**IMPORTANT..please read before going****
It brings me great sadness to report that the original owner (along w/ the chef and the rest of the wait staff) has packed up shop; they're gone. In which case, all the reviews after mine, along with all the pictures posted are for the old restaurant that no longer exists. =(
Another owner has bought the business and has already opened up their doors to the public. The food is similar, but definitely not as good as the original business. The restaurant is now called "New Mandarin Noodle Deli." The two star rating is for the new restaurant. The food's ok, but definitely nothing to write home about nor a repeat in the future. In any case...I'm going to walk over to a corner now and cry.
I miss you mandarin noodle deli lady...:::tear::: -

D*rn it, this was the best of all 3 beef crawls in terms of food, but service wise was a total disappointment. I was really angry to be honest after being waved back to my seat. I was polite enough to go to the counter and made the order so that she didn't have to walk back and forth, yet she totally ignored me to begin with and then my friend and I got sent back to the seat without our order being taken. I was too hungry to scream in public, otherwise I would've walked out of this joint completely.
I had been here before, I always know their Beef Stew noodle soup was good, we ordered that, the only problem was that the noodle was a bit soggy and we also ordered the pork dumplings which was pretty good... Their beef roll was the best among the 3 restos that we tried, it's very tender, moist, and easy to bite, luv everything about it, and yes sadly the service brought down everything.
Sorry Mandarin Noodle, you're not worth my time or money. -

*****NEW OWNER******
Came back here after so many months only to find out they changed owner. At first I thought they only remodeled but I noticed the lady boss wasn't there, which is strange already. Once they gave us the menu, I was confirmed that it's a NEW RESTAURANT. Its called NEW Mandarin Deli House now...
I got the usual, boiled shrimp&pork dumplings and the famous beef wrap which is no longer so famous anymore. The food taste NOTHING THE SAME like before. The dumpling's skin was chewy, not so soft. The meat was no good. It wasn't juicy nor flavorful like before. The beef wrap was okie but it can't be compared either. Instead of serving hoison sauce on the side, they put it inside the beef wrap already. I thought it was okie.1 Previous Review: Show all »
