6 reviews for Mandarin Garden
Christmas day, you're in the mood for a bite but don't want to even look at the kitchen. Instead you go with the traditional Xmas alternative, Chinese food. With a big "Grand Opening" written on the menu, Mandarin Garden touts itself as the "Best Delivery Service in Town". Feeling adventurous, we braved this unproven establishment.
As good as some places are ordering delivery can sometimes be a journey fraught with miscommunication, shouting and the wrong food. Thankfully, putting through our order was easy and painless. 30 to 45 minutes was quoted for delivery.
Here are our culinary choices for the night:
- Egg Rolls
- Egg Flower Soup
- Hot & Sour Soup
- Spareribs Shanghai Style
- Kung Pao Chicken w/ brown rice
- Steamed Dumplings (chicken)
- Crispy Walnut Shrimp
It was barely 30 minutes when we heard the knock on our door. Everything was exactly what we ordered with some pleasant additions. Cutlery w/ napkins, sauces (Chili, Hot Mustard, Sweet & Sour), and Crispy Noodles.
Let me start off with the disappointing part... the soups. I was not a fan of them. They felt watery and the plastic containers they were in gave a weird aftertaste. If you do decide to try them you must transfer it to a bowl immediately to minimize the plastic flavor.
Now for the good stuff.... everything else. The steamed dumplings were HUGE and packed with delicious chicken. The Kung Pao was filled with good pieces of chicken and slices of onion. It could have been hotter, but I'm a "chili head" so everything can be turned up a couple of notches. Walnut Shrimp was great (though I've never had the dish before so I have no point of reference) and the spareribs were tasty. Also, I ended up eating both bags of the crispy noodles (I might have a problem).
Overall it hit just the right spot. The food was steaming hot on arrival, flavorful throughout and large in portion size. Easy ordering with quick delivery will have me coming back for more.
Based on a few suggestions, I order delivery at this place today and the food was sub par.
We ordered the Kung Pao chicken and the fried chicken wantons. First, let me say that the food really does arrive as if it's just been removed from the stove. The Kung Pao chicken was so hot that we had to wait several minutes before we could even pick the tray up. The portion is enough for three people and the veggies (onions) were fresh. However, the chicken was disgusting. It had the texture of chicken mcnugget "meat". I could barely choke down my portion.
This is the worst delivery I have ever had. Especially considering they call themselves "the best delivery service in town."
The food took 1.5 hours to get to us when we were promised a 30-45 minute wait. We live 5 minutes drive away from the restaurant.
They messed up our order. We are vegetarian so we ordered a vegetable and tofu soup. Instead we were given wonton soup. When I called the driver to explain that we were given the wrong food, he promised to call us back after he had talked to the restaurant and figured out what to do. Two hours later, he has not called back and is not picking up his phone. The restaurant is not picking up their phone. The times that I spoke to the restaurant earlier (to ask where the food was when it had been over an hour late), the staff was defensive and rude.
The other dish we ordered, mushu vegetables, was mediocre.
You may get lucky and get a good delivery like the other people with high ratings did. But if you get unlucky...it will really suck :(
I really enjoyed my vegetable Chow Fun--is it just me, or is it hard to find good chow fun these days? There were plenty of yummy veggies--baby bok choy, mushrooms, sprouts, and napa cabbage. Tasted qute fresh, and the seasoning was great. The portions are huge, too. I'm def coming back--I want to try their specials!
this place is naaaaaaaaaaaaasty. i came home 8pm fri night, starving had their menu, decided to give them a try. ordered walnut shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, chow mien and spicy eggplant for hubby and i. they said 45 min, took over an hour, really annoyed at that but anyway, excited to chow down, the second i took the sweet and sour chicken out of bag, i got turned off. it looked so artificial. i tried a piece, spit it out. gave one more a try. same. tried another same. as im doing this im not saying a word and watching my husband who eats ANYTHING, do the same thing 2ce then stop and look at me with his head twisted in a grossed out confused state. the chicken was sooo dry and old, im gona throw just thinking bout it. everything else grossed me out. few bites of the others and to the trash they went. 45 bucks lost. i called to notify them, he offered to give a credit which was nice, but i would never order from them again.
Great Staff! Fast, Friendly Del livery. Food is Really Good, some times the rice tastes extremely old (That is it's only fault).
