What can I say got a decent rate $70/night from priceline. Loving the fact I didn't pay full price for this hotel. It's outdated the lobby is massive, and nice looking.
The rooms are run of the mill. Nothing spectacular goof enough. I did appreciate the fact that we got a coupon for one of the restaurants, parking however is super duper expensive.

OK, I was against prop 8 and still am. I didn't know all the political mumbo jumbo about this place before Priceline sent me here. Perhaps I won't stay here next time. However since most large hotels are owned by very rich white men, who are most likely Republicans which most likely have conservative bigoted views, I'm guessing you might be able to follow the trail of campaign money around from any hotel owner and find some affiliations that you find repulsive. So I'm going to keep all that out of this review, just review my stay here.
Having stayed in a lot of nice hotels in Vegas (The Wynn, the Venetian) as well as a Ritz Carlton in Sarasota, FL, I can say this isn't quite at that level. The Lobby is extremely nice looking, and the service I got from everyone was top notch. The rooms are nothing special, but did have a heck of a view of the bay, as we were on the 25th floor. Aside from the view, the room could have been a holiday inn. We had a room with double beds. They were only full size. The shower didn't have very good water pressure. The bathroom, although it had new tiles in it, wasn't very 4 star looking. The thermostat was right next to the AC, so the AC blew directly on it. This meant that we had to keep the Thermostat on like 69 to get the room cool. But the worst part of the room was the 15 year old TVs. Come on you have to upgrade that, if you are calling yourself a 4 star hotel. The pool area was nice, although we almost didn't go, because our room was looking down on what we thought was the pool. It was some other pool in the hotel. Which was as plain as can be. So we were surprised when we got to the pool area and it was fairly upscale. That said, don't expect the waterfalls and stuff that we could see at the Marriott Pool next door.
The best part of this hotel, was the location, right on the bay. The trolley stop right across the street from the hotel. You can easily walk to the Gaslamp from here. Less than half a mile. Seaport Village is right outside the back door of the hotel.
Anytime you stay at an upscale hotel, you can expect to be charged for everything. You would think it's the opposite, the more you pay, the more you get for free. Not so. The more you pay the more they will keep on charging you. This isn't unique to the Grand Hyatt, all 4 and 5 star hotels are like this. So $22 for self parking didn't surprise me, especially for a downtown location. But everyone should know about it in advance. $10-$13 for wi-fi in your room per 24 hours. And it's to the second. I had it disconnect me right on time. We needed just 10 minutes of internet on the morning of check out, and the concierge couldn't do anything for us other than admit the policy kind of sucks. Pretty Lame. But again not entirely unexpected.
So why am I giving this 4 stars? Priceline hooked us up for $75 a night for a Sat and Sun night. I wonder how low I could have offered? $50 a night? Upon check in they did try to have me upgrade to a room with a nice bay-view for $25 more a night. But If they are accepting $75 from priceline, I knew they were way under capacity. So I stuck to my guns, sure enough he "found" a room with a great view for us for my original price. Give it a shot., just name your own price on a 4 star in downtown and most likely you'll end up here, it's a large hotel.
Oh and one more note, they no longer do the pool nightclub thing on weekends. I was a little worried about that after reading some of the reviews here about the noise. But it was as quiet as can be. The power of Yelp, I'm sure.

Got a great rate on Priceline for a four star hotel... which is good because this place would definitely not be worth full price. I am not convinced it was worth what we paid.
Like many others have stated in their reviews, the rooms leave much to be desired. The decor is certainly outdated and upon arrival the room was rather musty. The bathroom ceiling had mildew stains, and the sheets had what appeared to be ink stains. The TVs in the rooms are really old (no flat screens here) and their reception is poor.
As for amenities, this hotel really nickle and dimes you. Internet access is $9.99 for 24 hours. Gym access is $5 per day. Parking is $22 per day. Also, if you consume the bottles of water in your room, prepare to be charged $4.50 each.
As for location, the Manchester Grand Hyatt is located downtown, but it is still a bit of a hike to local attractions such as the convention center and the Gaslamp district. The view is nice, but nothing to write home about.
What was probably the most infuriating thing about our stay was on Saturday night, one of the pool areas becomes a dance party. This is a nice idea, but the fact that we could hear the music loud and clear as high up as the 26th floor, until 2 AM. was a bit ridiculous.
I would not stay here again, even at a further reduced rate. Another reviewer stated that they have received better service and amenities at hotels charging $39.95 per night, and I couldn't agree more.
I would recommend this location to college/ school groups, as they would probably enjoy the liberties allowed by the staff as far as noise goes.
We stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt for the DMA Conference in October 09. The room, service, food, pool were excellent. Very clean, very friendly and responsive staff, great location and surroundings. We had a complaint with the high price of international phone calls charged and our complaint was immediately and efficiently addressed and resolved. Great experience, I recommend this place!
Feels pretty dated at this point. The rooms are nothing special for the price. It's also pretty lame that they charge for internet. It was important that I have it for work, so I payed for the more expensive version, $13/night and it's still ungodly slow.
If you're going to spend the money in this neighborhood, go to the Omni. It's better in every way.
Old hotel without a lot of charm, but good for priceline price of $100. Located near the seaport. Nice view from the room. Room is roomy but dull. Cheap old decor. Have had better decor at a Knight Inn. Wouldn't pay much more for the room.
In fact do NOT pay full price. Not really a 4 star hotel.
Some protestors state that the owner is neither labor nor gay friendly. I'd rather support a business that is labor friendly and at least gay neutral. If these are important issues for you then recommend staying elsewhere. Lots to choose from downtown.
Hey Hyatt... the 1980's called and they want their rooms back.
Stayed here for a conference and although I love the location I can't believe how dated the rooms are and how bad they screw you here.
The Good: Location, beautiful lobby, decent sized pool, amazing fitness center for a hotel.
The Bad: $20 charge to park your car... even if you park it yourself. The price gouging on food. A cup of Starbucks in the lobby will run you $5, a beer by the pool will cost you $8, and internet for your room is $12 a day. Complete BS. In this economy with hotel occupancies where they are it makes no sense to gouge your customers. I am glad I am starwood and would not have stayed here if my company hadn't paid for the room (still ticked off they were gouged though).
The Ugly: The Rooms. Sure they have great views but they were so outdated and unkept. 22" Tube televisions should be upgraded to flat (standard in much cheaper hotels), the counter had formica in bathroom and was chipping paint. The decor was hideous.

What you expect from a 4-star hotel downtown
I stayed here yesterday during my move from my condo a block away- very convenient. Everyone was extremely professional and took every opportunity to make me feel welcome. Housekeeping even called my room to see if I needed anything. I was most impressed by the fact that they let me check in the morning-- hours before the normal check-in time, and let me do a late check out the following day. It made it so much easier when my condo was being torn apart by the movers.
Yes, the Hyatt is expensive for parking-- look around- most hotels in the marina district and gaslamp quarter charge similiarly for parking and valet. The Hyatt is no different- you're paying for convenience.
The Hyatt's decor is more traditional-- this is not the Hard Rock Hotel. Don't expect to find neon lights and shag carpets. It is a very elegant hotel that holds up well - very classic and clean.
Sally's has excellent seafood- I often come here for business lunches. Very nice to sit out on the patio under the umbrellas in the afternoon.
I got a military rate, which totally sweetened the deal-- check out priceline and other sites- you don't have to pay the rack rate.
As to the political controversy re the owner-- who cares?! Move on. Let your own experience be the judge.
i got a room here off priceline for $100, and for that rate it was fine. They have a great pool but it is right on the harbor and therefore very breezy and can be very cold.
If you are looking for a place with a good pool scene I would go somewhere else. But if you want a decent hotel centrally located, this place isnt bad.
Total white trash hotel. I was shocked. We went to watch the sunset one night on the top floor bar. First, it looks elegant but they were pumping some lame rap from about a decade ago. Seriously, who is running the place? Seemed like a bunch of kid gang bangers based on their music selection. Then, we ordered some food from their extremely limited bar menu, and it was just place gross.. Did I mention the old hotel smell? You know that smell that they used to use to mask a smoking room in a hotel, well this is what this place smelled like. All in all, what a piece of crap.

The hotel is very nice-looking and expansive. However, I was scared after reading the reviews on here after having booked my stay on Priceline for $77/night. I had no idea about the owner and his disputes w/ various groups either.
Suffice it to say, I did have one complaint during my stay and that was dirty looking sheets on the bed. On one, there were little, black spots on the sheets. On the other, I found a black hair.
They have a sign in the room saying something about conserving water and how you can request to have your linens changed, so it made me think ..."Well maybe they don't even wash the sheets after people leave if they don't seem that dirty!" Who knows. Ugh.
The sheets also felt like cheap sandpaper sheets - definitely not the type you would find at an upper-end hotel. I guess they spent all the money on making the lobby look beautiful than the actual rooms.
Service was alright.
I liked the quick check in and out kiosks in the main lobby. Good way to bypass the long line when you need get in and out fast.
Parking is $22 a day, which sucked big time. Oh well, what are you gonna do?
Pool area was really nice and relaxing. They also have some lawn games that you can play during the day.

This has been my Comic con Go-to hotel to stay in for the past five or so years. Each year I seem to alternate in which room I get. It seems that I've only ever stayed in two different rooms here. Both of them were conference suites. Both of which have been pretty spacious.
So when comic con comes around and it's time to pick a hotel, I always try to get in on this place. This is one of the main places that has the creative types flocking to. I had a drink with Penn from Penn and Teller at the bar here one year. Grant Morrison, Darwyin Cooke, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee and so many other comic writers, artist, famous to the nerd world show up here to drink in the lobby bar at night.
The rooms themselves are also amazingly big and while the price may be a little steep per night, you get what you pay for. It's really an amazingly good, clean and beautiful all around.
It's not far from the convention center either. You're about a block away. And while it may feel like a mile when you're carrying soo much swag, you also have the options to get raped in the wallet by those bicycle people.
Parking per night here is a bit expensive at around $28 or so per day. But hey, at least it's a parking spot for the day that will keep your car safe and out of the sun.
Now, I don't really care that the hotel owner is a bigoted asshole who donated to prop 8. If I stopped spending money on people who donated or believed in stupid stuff, I wouldn't be eating at IN&OUT because of their religious messages on their wrappers/cups. Nor would I enjoy eating at El Coyote..
So that's not even a factor here and as much as I hate Prop 8, I blame the dumb voters, not the morons who supported the prop for it passing.
Not to mention I was extremely surprised to hear about this prop 8 support from the owner who's employee's, the last few years I've stayed here, were mostly gay.

This is a review of just the room. I know that Top of the Hyatt, KIN, etc are all pretty classy but the room not so much!
This was our staging hotel for an event we had at the Midway. All I have to say is:
I SPENT $12 TO TAKE A SHOWER HERE! WTF?!
An hour in the parking garage = $12
WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK?!
Also:
What is up with the victorian hunting paintings on the wall? I'm in San Diego... Down Town San Diego. I dug the retro styling of the Town and Country hotel but at the Hyatt? No way! Also, down town hotels with out a flat screen tv = step your game up. If you're going to have a grand hotel, make the rooms just as grand ok?

My wife and I stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt last year thanks to Priceline. We wanted to stay in a nice and comfortable hotel in or near Downtown. I selected 4 star hotels, specified the check-in and check-out dates and voila! We ended up spending 5 beautiful days at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, sitting by the pool pretty much every day and soaking up the sun and relaxation. We had such a blast we even made that our activity for July 4th last year: we spent the whole day poolside and watched the fireworks over Seaport Village. Totally awesome!
This year, Priceline sent us to the Westgate Hotel down the street. The hotel was very nice but it doesn't have a pool, a huge downer. So we basically came to the Grand Hyatt every day and crashed their pool. Now before you jump on me for doing something so illegal, let it be known that we spent well over $300 here between drinks and food so we kept the waitresses full of tips and we were happily enjoying the beautiful poolside decor. Errr... unfortunately my wife and I overdid it yesterday and we are now both completely sunburned. Good thing we're heading back up North!

Top notch service here and great location. Highly recommend it.
you can get a better location than that! It is just near the seaport. try to use priceline for a good price (we got 82$ per night). I love the Bar at the 40th floor. wonderful view of the downtown and the harbor.
I scored a room here on http://Priceline.com for $80/night. From the jump we were greeted by everyone in the lobby. The check-in process was quick and smooth and we were able to get a room on the 15th floor overlooking the pool area and the bay towards the Coronado Bridge.
The room was nice, bathroom was spacious. I didn't have to request for a refrigerator be brought up since they have one in every room. They also have an in-room safe and the beds were comfy.
The pool area was my favorite part of the hotel. Located on the 4th floor, it boasts two hot tub areas and a central fire pit for night time activity and social gatherings. They also have a small lawn area for games and such. There were plenty of pool side lounge chairs, lounge towels, and service outside was excellent. The food was great poolside, by the way. We ordered cocktails along with our Turkey Nachos while the kids got the Chicken Tenders. At one point my 8 month old knocked over my mojito and they replaced it free of charge.
It's located within walking distance to the Convention Center, Seaport Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, as well as the Westfield Shopping Center. There are no shuttles to the local attractions such as Sea World or the San Diego Zoo but the drive to these attractions were less than 15 minutes or so.
My gripes: We were located near the stairwell. I was a little sketchy about how many people would actually think of using the stairwell on the 15th floor but there were a few times were I heard people in it. It didn't bother me much though. I have kids louder than that. My second gripe: $22/night for self-parking. $32/night for valet.
Otherwise, it was a great stay and would definitely consider choosing this hotel again when we come back to the San Diego area.
I recently stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, and got a low rate from booking through Priceline. I was excited to stay at this hotel, given its size, location, and amenities; especially for the low Priceline rate.
Little did I know... when you book through Priceline, there must be a room tier called "Steaming Pile of *#%&," because we were placed in a very average room above the spa pool. Here's the best part: on weekends the spa pool becomes a nightclub until 2 AM, and even many floors above this pool you still hear extremely loud club music. Even with the TV on I could still hear this music. And when I called the front desk (multiple times) to complain, they nonchalantly offered some earplugs.
...Excuse me... but when I check out the Manchester's glamorous webpage, I can't seem to find a glossy bullet point telling me that I get to use earplugs on weekend nights. It must be hidden in the reworking of their other mediocre selling points.
Don't stay at this hotel, because they have no respect for their customers. Maybe if you dish out for a suite you'll be treated well, but c'mon... you can get the Manchester for like $100 a night on Priceline with ease. They're clearly not selling rooms at their standard prices.
Altogether, I was terribly disappointed with my experience. Especially being a Hyatt GoldPassport member who likes to stay at Hyatts when I travel. I'd suggest staying elsewhere with more charm and better customer service.
I will never stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and have informed all of my friends and family to never go there as well. The fact that Doug Manchester donated thousands of dollars towards stamping out the GLBT community's rights is reason enough to never contribute another cent to such a bigoted CEO.
Boycotting this property and also the sister property of Grand Del Mar Resort until Doug Manchester (owner & CEO) resolves the issues he has with labor and the homosexual community that is striving for equality in this state and country. As a Patriotic American I stand strong for FREEDOM & Equality. I'll stay elsewhere in the area till the issue is resolved. I want the people that work here to be shown respect, as well as those that may stay here and spend their money here.
Second time staying at the Manchester which I booked through priceline. The room I was first taken to on the first visit had huge black stains on the carpet, the drapes are ripped and torn and the room smelled. I was moved to a new room which all they have are double beds in almost all rooms, they look like twin beds.
The service is slow, the hallway temparture is about 50 degrees, why they pay so much to refrigerate the hallway instead of upgrading their low end worn and outdated furniture?
The pool is understaffed and takes so long to even get a drink.
I do not blame the staff, it is management that understaffs and does not want to have a hotel that matches the location and star rating.
Second visit my credit card was over used for what reason?? Management does not care, oh well!
Again I enjoyed the twin beds, no larger beds available. Again the sheer curtains were damaged and torn the outer curtains were off and hanging loose, the mirrors had hand prints, the tub filled with long black hair! Digusting!
Even at the Priceline price I paid, i felt I overpaid to stay at this hotel, I they can offer is a view! I will not bid in San Diego downtown again to avoid this hotel! I waited 45 minutes for a bellman, finally carried my own bags, Horrible service, horrible attitiude and definitely a hotel to avoid at all cost!
A great hotel is the Omni, far nicer and that is where I will be staying the next time!!!
I'm actually really surprised that this hotel got such low reviews!
My husband and I came here for our mini moon right after our wedding and we really enjoyed our stay.
The room that we had was on the Newport tower and the service was exceptional! Room service was prompt and everyone was very professional. I think our room was like on the 28th floor or something (it may have been higher) and the view that we had was incredible!
I love how close the hotel was to the Seaport Village! I love it there! The location of the hotel is great--its so close to everything! The gaslamp district is not too far off and Coranado is right over the bridge.
We had a room with a king bed and the size of the room was really spacious! I also loved their shampoo and conditioner! Needless to say, I made the boy call room service a few times for some extras. :) The size of the bathroom is really roomy as well.
An overall great stay their!
But! Parking is not cheap though! Be warned!
My wife and I stayed here when we flew to San Diego for her birthday last weekend. I got a pretty good deal on the room through Hotbot ($85/night) so my review is based on that pricepoint.
The location of the hotel is its biggest asset. We were in walking distance of the gas lamp district and the back door of the hotel leads directly to Seaport Village. In addition, the view from the bay rooms (free upgrade when I checked in) was spectacular.
The only annoyances were the fact that the hotel bar on the ground floor gave last call at midnight (rooftop bar stays open) and having to pay for parking/internet access.
If I had paid full price ($150+/night) I would have given this hotel a substantially lower rating because the room itself was pretty generic(tv was old, reception was poor, and the bathroom was very outdated)but for what I paid, my stay was well worth the money I spent.
I've never stayed in any of the rooms there but this place is right next door to my place of work and I use the bathrooms there all the time. They are a giant step up from the nasty toilets at my work which reek of... I'm not exactly sure what, but it's bad. Also, right inside the side entrance that I use there are comfy armchairs that I nap in during my ten minute breaks. The ten minute break, by the way, is one of the most pointless ideas ever conceived. It's time to go back to work before you've had the chance to do anything.
I often see employees of the hotel, usually women in pantsuits, coming outside near my place of work for their ten minute breaks and they all smoke cigarettes. I am not sure of the significance of this observation, if there even is any, but that's just what I've noticed.
Wow, this review was useless... Kinda like a ten minute break.

I am giving it 3 stars because of the location and beautiful interior and rooms. However, I have several issues with our stay this weekend.
First they do not use fitted sheets so if you move while you sleep, you wakeup with no sheet under you. The staff is not friendly, only 2 said Hello to us without solicitation. And lastly, room service spilled a entire pot of coffee on all of our jackets as they brought in the tray. No offer to launder them or assist us in anyway and the floor was not cleaned or even sopped up.
dissappointing.

Beautiful hotel!
Was here for a convention, and had an absolutely wonderful experience!
The lobby greets you in a grand, oversized and elegant way, the check in clerks are extremely nice and helpful, short lines, just 5 star right from the first minute.
The room was beautiful, I was overlooking the ocean, and could see the Padres' stadium from my room.
The entire staff is very nice, not one person ignored me as I walked by them, everyone asked me how I was doing..
The meeting and convention space is beautiful, and very well maintained, and a joy to spend a few days in...
It's within walking distance of a bunch of attractions...
I would stay here again in a heartbeat, highly recommended!

Just stayed four glorious nights at the Hyatt and I couldn't be happier. We booked on Priceline but I think the regular rate ranges from $120-200 a night. All the amenities were great. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the pool area after long days trekking around San Diego.
Prepare to be nickel-and-dimed a bit with extra charges for parking and internet but you already know that if you've ever stayed at a 4-star hotel.
Parking at all the harbor hotels is about $22, internet is $9.95 for slow and $12.95 for fast. That kinda sucks but I've never been to a fancy hotel with free internet. Food and drink is also pricey but it's a hotel. If you walk a couple of blocks into the Downtown area you can find regular prices.
Overall great stay, would go back in a heartbeat. I wouldn't put too much stock in any of the bad reviews you see below.
I've been here for two events, so this review is mainly for the convention meeting rooms and the catering there. It's also closer to 3.5 stars really. First of all, they have a pretty rad view of the Harbor, Coronado bridge, and downtown. Parking is served by a big lot, although it's expensive like the rest of downtown, although some events offer free validation.
It's very huge inside and great for large meetings. The latest event I attended served bite size appetizers and a three course meal. The apps were completely disastrous and included an unspeakable dry version of crab cakes. On the contrary, the actual meal was terrific. Pear and arugula salad, followed by Filet and Saffron Sea Bass, and capped with a dessert trio highlighted by a flourless chocolate cake (LEGIT). I would have dropped good money at a nice restaurant for that meal and been totally satisfied. Pretty impressive considering it was catered and served promptly to 200+ people.
I have been in the rooms although never stayed there, so I can't really give an accurate review on that. In general though, I think the entire hotel is beginning to show it's age. I probably wouldn't recommend staying here unless money was not an issue or it was paid business trip. Great place to do a group meeting or event though.

Great location and terrific views (including, depending on your room, some interesting games of peek-a-boo with the folks in the rooms in the neighboring tower- it seems reflective glass is not a feature of this hotel.) There's always something going on (Bill Clinton is here today; and protesters are marching outside because of a donation made by the owner in favor of Prop 8) Fun!
The lobby, outdoor fireplaces near the pool, and the 40th floor bar are all spectacular. Rooms are comfortable and clean, and are not cramped for a downtown location. Parking is expensive, but public transportation is readily available.

I stayed here with friends recently and I have never seen such a disaster of hotel. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the public halls were filthy, the carpets were stained, the desk chair had a cigarette burn on it and to top it all of there were bed bugs in the beds! Yes, actual bed bugs. Avoid this hotel like the plague, unless you want to catch it. Many other great options in San Diego for much less in price.

My BF stayed here for his entire conference but i was only here for one day. Most of the day I spent sleeping in and by nightfall after dinner, i don't remember much else... But i do remember the grand lobby! The ceilings were sky high and i felt like royalty! But the rooms were ok- i liked the room at the Westin better.
We stayed here recently and we have never seen such a mess of hotel. Peeling wallpaper coming off the walls, the common areas were filthy, stained carpets, cigarette burn on the furniture and there even were bed bugs in the beds! Many other great options in San Diego for much less in price. Even Motel 6 would be better.
2.5 stars for this hotel I'm afraid. I have been to this location multiple times to visit the Top of the Hyatt (bar and lounge) and I LOVED it each time I visited. I would give 5-stars just for the bar.
On the other hand, on the rooms itself.. the "suite" was just three small rooms placed together with a mini wet bar and paying 1500?
I have stayed in many locations in Las Vegas and their deals of 150per room is way better than the "Suite" we stayed at in Manchester Grand Hyatt.

Gorgeous hotel. I paid too much though on my Priceline bid! My first attempt at priceline and bid $150/night for 2 night business stay. My associate bid $75 and got a better room here! Comfy beds. Nice view of the fabulous pool. Sucky having to pay for internet and $22/day parking. I would def stay here again with a lower price on priceline or special.
You know the hotel I'm talking about; the significant flat edged screwdriver like structures that grace the San Diego skyline belong to the Manchester Grand Hyatt and well for all its grandeur, my expectations were a bit higher than what had been met. Our family stay at the Hyatt was above all pleasant but surely had some hits and misses.
As an architectural landmark it's breathtaking and definitely worthy of the word grand from it's strong wood arches and marbled lobbied floors, the Hyatt on the outside is pleasing to the eye. Its pool is reminiscent of a Las Vegas hotel pool, one of the larger ones in the downtown San Diego hotel district and ample room for everyone to lay out and enjoy the gorgeous weather. The breakfast buffet at Lael's is abundant (omelet station, lox and bagels and delicious coffee) and service is outstanding. The Hyatt also incorporates a lot of complimentary family friendly activities such as a swim-up movie at nightfall, for a small fee you and your fam can enjoy s'mores by the fire pit and an all day activity area for lawn bowling, football and foosball.
Am I enticing you yet? Better hold off on the thought because granted its pros there's surely some cons that may be of importance to some of you out there. One of them is the room. The rooms at the Manchester GRAND Hyatt are pretty much your average (insert your 3 star and below hotel here) type rooms. What a disappointment when you've been sold on everything else. And secondly the parking is horrendously expensive and certainly not enough for both hotel structures guests plus those visiting Top of the Hyatt. They also ended up overcharging my account for parking, yikes!
Nice try Hyatt, but you still got some work to do.
First off, they have a swimming pool shaped like a phallus. Matching ovarian shaped hot tubs bubble on either side of it as well. Lots of poolside beach chairs offer excellent sun-soaking lounging for the on-the-go convention attendee or business traveler.
In their most basic rooms, for over two hundred a night, they don't offer some basic extras one would expect at an upscale hotel of its caliber. Slippers for example, or a bathrobe. Their beds are comfy and suffice though.
Our hero recently visited a friend that stayed over at the Hyatt for a conference who told him he met some random account executives in the elevator, drank at Top of the Hyatt on their invitation, and then smoked weed in their room together. Not a bad party hotel.
PROS:
- Fantastic view of the harbor.
- Lots of nice swanky restaurants and upscale drinking spots in the hotel, including The Grand Lobby Bar, Top of the Hyatt and KIN Lounge.
CONS:
- Lack of "extras" in rooms. They even gouge you if you drink the bottled water in your room.
- The men's sauna in their gym wasn't working properly when I visited. Even after waiting 20 minutes for it to heat up, the rocks wouldn't steam.

My parents and one of their friends had joint rooms here for a conference, so I drove down to spend a couple days with them.
The beds were comfy, it's right next to Seaport Village, and there were great views. We made coffee in our room, and the staff even delivered an extra refrigerator so that my parents could pick up some random snacks for the week (the in-room refrigerator is loaded with goodies, but of course they're expensive).
The toiletry products smelled so good -- ginger and white tea, some with lavendar. Just be prepared, because there's no fan in the bathroom. :-/
Service was very friendly, you could tell there was a big staff to help out. Parking can be an issue if there are conferences scheduled -- we were there when three conferences were going on, so parking was almost completely full (unless you're willing to pay extra for valet). Either way, we were comfortable, our floor was quiet, and we all slept soundly.

Grand is such an appropriate word. For a Hyatt, its actually pretty decent.
After inhaling my burger, we decided to call it a night at 11PM. Unfortunately, in a struggling economy, this "anti-gay" hotel owner decided to have saturday nite techno club event on OUR side of the building. You figure being on the 26th floor would limit the noise.... not a chance. 10 yrs ago, i probably woulda went down to gawk at 20something co-eds gettin hammered, while dousing myself with kettle one tonics. However, times have changed....
Fast-Forward to 2:45AM
Me: zzzzz.....zzzzz...zzzzz
Next Door Wall: "Uhhhhh....yeahh!!!".....mmmmmmm....uhhh... YES!
Me: ......!!!....WTF?
Next Door: (female voice) eeehhhh.....ehhhh...
(male voice)....mmmm......uhhhh.....uhhhhhh...mmmm
(female).....uhhh....ohhh...
(male)........UH! HUH!...ahhhh...
Me: ........ THATS IT!??!?!?!? Booooo!!!!!!! nothin like 4 mins of passion to end the night.....
Room Service is deplorable. I cook better breakfast with my feet. Which is what the corn beef & hash tasted like. Minced toes, herbs, with poached eggs.....dry toast, and a tomato sprinkled with bread crumbs.... yuuuummmmaaayyyy........ I dont think so.
To top it off, the Valet Guys charged me $28.00 THREE TIMES for a one night stay. Way to go Mr. Valet guy.... theres a reason you work there and not starbucks...... freakin jack hole......

Take this review as a 2.5...
I decided on this hotel honestly because of their placement, not because I had any real prior knowledge.
Positive:
Decent sized room.
Nice view of the harbor.
Nice concierge.
Fire pit set below the pool deck area with a view of the bay & Coronado.
You can access Seaport Village without having to go outside to Harbor St.
Negative:
What to say? The hotel website deceptively advertises the pool like it is a huge area and they angle the photos in such a way to make the pool seem huge (I accounted for this but not enough because the pool is tiny!).
There were scortch marks on the wall around some sort of speaker and honestly the front desk really didn't care when I brought it up (it made me a little nervous - fire concerns).
I got the room reservation via their website & utilized my handy dandy AAA discount so for a downtown room I got a great deal with a view. If it wasnt for the dispointment over the pool I would have given them 3.5 stars despite the other "issues" (even though I live here the view still kicks ass).
Overall, I would recommend this place if people could get a really good deal with the AAA discount - if not go ahead and shop around first. If there was another choice for the same price or better that offered the same view: go somewhere else (plus I'm not crazy about the whole GBLT boycott - the company should stick to putting their money into updating their electrical and the other issues pointed out by the other reviewers instead of political issues).
