The pepper & garlic chicken over rice is delicious!!! It comes with tiny little tempura eggplant slices on top as a bonus. Favorite dish - addicted... and I don't even live in Oak Park anymore!
Good service... And crushed ice in their drinks :) -

After an event in the city, my family and I were on our way home and decided to stop in Forest Park to get some dinner. We were actually on our way to a different Thai restaurant when we spotted Mama Thai's and decided to check it out. It was a good move. =)
First of all, as new parents, we are still getting used to bringing a baby (8 months old) into a restaurant. We don't want to bother other patrons (even though our baby is REALLY good a restaurants and doesn't cry) so generally speaking, we avoid going anywhere "nice" so that we can enjoy dinner without stressing out that we are bothering someone and so can everyone else. The staff was so very welcoming to us having the baby and even stopped by a couple of times to see if they could get us something to feed the baby even if it wasn't on the menu which I thought was awfully nice.
The atmosphere of the place was really nice too. Not too fancy and not too casual. Food came out REALLY quick. I think that we waited maybe 5 mins for our appetizer (crab rangoon) and about a total of less than 15 mins for our dinner. The food was outstanding! Service was great too. I'm not sure who our actual waitress was though, we had 3 girls coming back and forth to our table to see the baby and also to see if we needed anything else but it wasn't gratuitous where I was getting annoyed that they were stopping by.... Just "attentive." We eat Thai a lot and this was one of the better restaurants that we have been to. Prices were reasonable too. I know that Yelp gives it $$ for the pricing but we had an appeizer, drinks, pad thai, another noodle dish (sorry I forgot what the other one was) and the total came out to $35 and a few cents. I've paid MUCH more for worse food and terrible service.
If you are in Forest Park, give it a try. =) -

We were in Oak Park for the afternoon and turned to yelp for some ideas about Thai food. We looked at numerous reviews, and found that only Mama Thai was open on a late Sunday afternoon. So we headed there. Parking was a breeze and the storefront looked inviting.
We were offered a table the moment we walked in and then ordered the most important item on any Thai menu (in our opinion) - Thai iced tea. It was delicious, coming in a tall frosted glass with the dark red tea on the bottom and cream on top, and a straw to mix it to perfection.
I ordered the Pad Thai and my husband ordered the Pepper and Garlic beef. We decided to split an order of Pork Curry Fried Rice.
Our food came very quickly and tasted wonderful. I've had Pad Thai in more restaurants than I can count and Mama's was among the best. My husband loved his entree, the spice level being just right and the fried eggplant surprising him at how good it was. The curry fried rice was great, having a dense, complex curry flavor and just the right stickiness.
The ambience was peaceful, even as several more diners entered the restaurant.
All in all, Mama Thai is a great place to get your Thai fix in Oak Park. We will definitely visit again the next time we're in the neighbor hood. -

I've just eaten here recently and was pleased with what I ordered. I got delivery, and opted for something akin to a pad see eiw , tom kha soup and crab rangoon. Everything I had was good, not knock your socks off good but decent, standard Thai fare. They were reasonably priced and the delivery was relatively fast. Bonus points for the tom kha soup (which I had no room for the day I'd ordered) and the last 3 crab rangoon holding up to reheating the next day. I'd definitely order from them again.

Oak Park, IL
I've ordered delivery from 3-4 thai or thai serving places in this area after having recently moved to the area, and I've landed here permanently.
The Golden Crab and Shrimp in a Blanket are both well done appetizers, and I've never been disappointed by the Pad Thai or Pad Sew Ew. I tend to get shrimp or seafood when I order Pad Thai, and have found a number of places that just don't use good quality fish. Mama Thai's seafood always tastes fresh and isn't overcooked. Even the calamari is tender instead of chewy.
While I might not choose it for a nice dinner, I've had a lot of Thai in the many places we've lived, and this certainly lives up to my expectations. We easily order it once or twice a month. -
Review from Cher M.
Firstly, the food was really, really good. But I will NEVER eat here again. Why? Because, when the woman sitting at the table behind us told the waitress that there wasn't a changing station in the restroom, the waitress told her that she could CHANGE HER BABY'S DIAPER ON THE TABLE.
Yes, the table directly behind where my BF and I were currently eating.
I'm sure that is a health code violation, poor manners, and just plan GROSS.
I would caution anyone looking to eat here that if diaper changing in the dining room is the norm, the rest of the operation can't be that sanitary. STAY AWAY!!!!! -
Review from Sue T.
Nicely decorated storefront restaurant. The Mama Thai Noodle dish could have used more seasoning. There was a generous amount of seafood though for the price -- shrimp, faux crab, even a couple of fresh mussels. Perfunctory service -- I was only half-way through my entree when she whisked my partner's dish away and boxed it up to go. Doubtful I'd go back.

I would not normally go to Oak Park to eat Thai food, but this place came highly recommended. I don't usually stray far from Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, or Lard Nar. I went with the Chicken Pad Thai, and we ordered Tofu Satay as an app.
I can't go to a Thai Restaurant without trying the Iced Coffee, and I must say that the Iced Coffee here is one of the best that has touched my lips. I wanted to ask for a Venti but alas it was not a Starbucks. The Chicken Pad Thai was deli-wait for it...cious.
Yes I stole that from Barney Stinson, because I'm awwwesome (in high pitched voice). I will definitely go out of my way to eat here again, and that's saying something since there are many fine Thai Restaurants in Chicago. This place get a fist bump and a high five!!! -

I wouldn't make a special trip, but I'd visit again to get out of 290 traffic.
Services was delightful.
Tom Ka soup was pretty good, not the best I've tasted but solid.
Spicy Basil was decent
Red Curry was yummy, but not the best.
Drinks reasonable: Beer $3 - 3.95 and Wine $5.95 - 7.50
Prices: surprised that so many Yelpers said it's expensive. $9.95 for an entree sounds pretty reasonable to me (most expensive thing was $12.95) -

San Francisco, CA
As a wannabee San Francisco foodie, I am always looking to see how Asian food stacks up in other cities . . . yeah, yeah, I know Asians life in other places ;-)
A friend found this Mama Thai so we tried it out. Overall it was on par with most decent Thai places. It was not "WOW" by any means, but I could see coming back.
I had the Thai Ice Tea and Catfish Curry. Veggies were fresh and crispy and the curry was very good.
We went around 5:00 so the crowds had not arrived yet, so the atmosphere was great for a good conversation.
Staff was very friendly and seemed to know quite a few of the other customers. -

More often than not, we end up at Mama Thai because New Rebozo is too crowded and I forgot to make a reservation.
BOTTOM LINE: Average everything--except the Golden Crab, which is mmm-mmm-good.
Food: Eh ... it's fine. It'll satisfy a hungry gal.
Service: Unmemorable, which is good I guess.
Atmosphere: The place is small, but I've never had to wait. It's a pretty standard small, average Asian restaurant.
Prices: I don't balk at the prices--the food is good enough, I guess.
Kid-Friendliness: No one will give you a hard time for bringing a little one, but--as is the case with all Asian restaurants I know of--there is no kids menu.
I give it three stars because I know I'll go back and I know I'll be satisfied.
SPECIAL NOTE: Mama Thai will not deliver to Forest Park. Despite the fact that we are less than 2 miles from this place and I am CERTAIN there are plenty of residents in OP and RF that are much farther, Mama Thai won't deliver to us. For delivery to FP and equal quality food, give Coral a call. -

If I want exceptional Thai food, I will head to TAC Quick in the city, but sometimes I'm not willing to invest that amount of time to get a fix. Mama Thai is the perfect solution to this Thai dilemma. The food is very solid, though perhaps a touch overpriced.
I adore their panang curry; the last time I had it, I all but licked the bowl clean. It was awesome.
I haven't tried all the Thai places in the western burbs, but this is my favorite so far. It's certainly worth a 20-minute drive as compared to those places 5- and 10- minutes from home. -

One of the best Thai food joints in Chicago and definitely the best one I've tried in the Western suburbs.
Food here is excellent, prices reasonable (especially the lunch specials), and the quaint restaurant itself is intimate and welcoming.
Almost everything I've had their so far has been consistently good. Their golden crab is the best crab rangoon I've ever had. Love the tom yum soup and the mussamun/mild curries. Also recommend the fried rice and the iced teas/coffee are a dessert in itself. About the only thing I didn't care for is Pad Thai. Found it a little too sweet.
They are also accommodating to vegetarians. You can substitute tofu for meat in nearly every dish. -

Used to be great. Was never crowded, food was tasty. Then they got Zagat rated and all of a sudden it's noisy, crowded, everyone's in a rush, and I swear the food is twice as salty. The soups especially. Maybe because these days I order out to avoid the crowds but the Tom Yum and Tom Khar are just ridiculously salty. Your mouth will pucker about an hour after eating. Some dishes are still good but these days just way overpriced. It's not like you get huge portions. It used to be such a great place to go but these days it's near the bottom of my list of local eats.
Good:
Basil Chicken
Masuman Curry
Red Curry
Green Curry
Avoid at all costs

Okay food, and I mean that having had Thai in about 30 places in about 8 cities. I've had many item menus here, and they are overall Ok. Nothing more than that at all. My biggest gripe about them is that they seem to think their food is SO good that they charge an arm and a leg, and even charge for sauces (which cost them nothing for what they give--really, we have loads of those same sauces, in bulk and pay about 2.00 for a big container)! We just called them, asked for Vietnamese Spring Rolls, which are WAY more expensive than any we know around Oak Park or in the city, and asked them to throw in free hot sauce and they said they charged for that! REALLY?! Do they think they are that good? Sorry, but, no. An only passable place We canceled our order, right now, on the phone. Get realistic, Mama Thai. You can't afford not having good customer service, unless you really step up the actual 'food game.'
1 1/2 stars. Two for food, less than that, for general service. -

Mama Thai is great. It's nearby where I live so it's become a no brainer if I want a quick Thai fix for a reasonable price.
Warning - if you like your Thai food so spicy it makes you cry, probably go somewhere else. Although they have spicier dishes, Mama Thai is more about developing rich and robust flavors.
I love the tofu soup, red/green/mild curries, and the cashew chicken and red snapper are also favorites.
If you like Thai Iced Tea, they do a good one here. -
Review from Rob W.
My standard of measure for 5 star Thai restaurants is "Your Choice" in Glenview about 10 years ago during its hey day under the former owner. Mama Thai hasn't surpassed their food, but they do a really good job. Their chicken pad thai is excellent and a good sized order at a fair price. Their tod mun (fried fish cakes) makes a great appetizer and is also among the best I've had.
They deliver too - fairly quickly to the far north side of Oak Park, which is a real bonus. Four and a half stars in my book. -

Kicked myself for living in Oak Park for 7 years without going here! Good thai, very reasonable prices, great service. Seems like a great family-owned type of place where most of the patrons appear to be "regulars". Wine list is not super extensive but for the price, you get a good selection of mid-range wines in terms of price. Just about any wine lover could find something good on the menu.
Have tried several dishes and have loved them all. Pad Siew is my favorite, but the BBQ pork dish is also wonderful. Their specials rotate fairly regularly and whenever duck is on the list my husband will order it, and it is also delcicious. I do recommend the appetizer sampler if you're hungry and in the mood for a LOT of different items. Couldn't decide what was my favorite, everying was really good!
Parking can be a pain on busy nights since it is a majot thoroughfare and some side streets are permit. But it's really nowhere near what you get downtown, so just loop around and you'll get lucky :) Or even better, they deliver if you live nearby! -

I come to this restaurant often. It just happens to be one of my favorite places to eat. The atmosphere is a little tiny, but the food, and service make up for it.
I recommend the Pad Woonsen with Chicken or the crab ragoon. This is the only place I will have crab ragnoon. -

I guess I was brain dead when I thought I had picked a new Thai place for my BF and I to eat at.When we showed up I realized that it was the same place that is in Lombard. They have two restaurants! Fooled me. I wasnt let down since Mama Thai creates my fav fried rice eva!
I like the decor and feel of this Mama thia location much better then the Lombard one.No offense Lombard your still my homies!
Service was great, our waitress was a super speed demon and kept the food flowing.A plus was that they serve wine and beer. The other Mama serves neither but you can bring your own whoo --hoo!
we ordered the usual singhas, fried tofu and cucumber salad to start. The cuc salad was perfection and I coulda ordered another one but I didnt, sam already thinks I'm a fatty at Thai places so I try to control myself a lil. It only cause I out eat him but he doesnt appreciate Thai like I do. So on to the entrees--Khee ma,broccoli and beef and my favvy Curry fried rice. All of the above where perfect! I may have raved about this before but if you havent had curry fried rice get on it B! Soo good I crave it at least once a week!
Great prices we ate the hell out of the place and our check was like $50 not bad! -

Mama, please forgive me.
I've been an awful girl. I ran away to chase greener pastures, to explore what other pleasures the world had to offer, but I know I've been too rebellious, too hasty. You've always been good to me. Not only have you nourished me when I was hungry, but you made it so that each bite was loving and delicious. You've taken excellent care of me always, making sure I had a comfortable place to be, that I had everything I needed. You've warmly welcomed all of my friends and extended the same care, feeding them as if they were your own. You've made promises to me that you've always kept; you've never let me down. Yet, I still left you. I'm sorry I've abandoned you for so, so long.
I'm grown up now (whatever that means), and life still takes me in all sorts of directions, but now that you've welcomed me back, the Prodigal Daughter, I promise I will visit you more often. I suppose you've always had the door open. There really is no place like home. Thank you, Mama. -

This place has some really interesting Thai specials like whole roasted fish or duck in a curry sauce. The restaurant is clean and the service is prompt. Try the shrimp wonton soup.
The only negative thing about this place is a caucasian teen server with a ridiculously dramatic attitude. My husband and I both ordered a Singha and he felt the need to yell across the restaurant for someone to check our IDs. -

Fresh ingredients, reasonable prices--Mama Thai is a gem!
I'm addicted to their pad thai--it's now my standard. It hurts to order pad thai elsewhere, because what I really want is Mama Thai's! I'm also a huge fan of the mussaman curry--yum! The spring rolls are yummy, the fried tofu is also good. -

La Grange, IL
Someone mentioned the King and I had better food; yet I think the quality is about the same.
The difference between the two spots is that Mama Thai is more contemporary aesthetically and a nicer place to take a date. Their crab rangoon rocks and the shrimp and crabmeat stuffed shell is tasty but you'll be disappointed in the quantity if its a shared appetizer. The mongolian beef was spicy and tasty. Top it off with a Tsingtao japanese beer and you're set. Service is fast and friendly, though you don't feel rushed to leave. -

Outstanding - I've been there twice recently, and come away both times with a full belly and a smile on my face!
Excellent service.
Great atmosphere - homey feel.
Delicious veggie soup - awesome clear, lite broth.
Marvelous Chicken Basil - ground chicken, basil, etc. in a perfect garlic sauce.
Yummy fried tofu - peanut sauce was right on the money!
Cucumber salad was just the right balance of sweet and sour.
Really fair prices.
Modest wine list. -

Mama Thai was my 1st experience with Thai food. Growing up in a small town in central Illinois, the closest thing to exotic cuisine was the Chinese delivery restaurant.
My first time there, I ordered Pad Thai since I heard it is the classic dish and most people like it. I loved it (with extra limes). Additional tries would be their: mild curry, pangang curry, woonsen pad thai (for lower carbs), chicken basil, golden grab, cucumber salad and many more.
I took my best friend here, because she was a Thai virgin. She loved it, too! The service is very quick & friendly. I think the food reflects the love from the kitchen and the wait staff. Amazing! -

Almost 5 stars.
Great appetizers! I recommend the sampler platter to give you a couple bites of everything. As far as the entrees go, I've had the green curry, pad Thai and some sort of seafood noodle dish - all were wonderful. Last but not least, the coconut soup is wonderful! And the cucumber salad is yummy too. The prices are good, service is good, atmosphere is good, etc.
no compliants, just more of a 4.75 than a 5. -

I would give it no stars if I could !!! Worst thai food I have ever had. It took an hour and a half to receive our order. The assistant manager was very rude over the phone !!! I will never order here again -- stay away from this crappy restaurant. A frozen dinner is much better than what they have to offer here.

Delicious.
My friend and I went here one night because we were steadfast in finding a good a nice place to eat in Oak Park that wouldn't make us absurdly poor.
This was it.
We both went full out and did appetizer, soup, entree. All were delicious and all we could talk about how great it was. I want to come back more often but never get the chance. Depending on what you get it can be pretty pricey, but everything is worth a try. -

Oak Park, IL
I was pleasantly surprised by this place! The food was very good and very reasonably priced. Service was quick and efficient as well. The restaurant is actually bigger than you'd think it would be from the outside. We had the pot stickers (very tasty), pad thai (also very tasty), and pad see ew (I know I spelled that wrong, but again, tasty).
Small beer and wine list, and strangely Heineken is the same price as MGD. I'm not complaining though. They also have a couple of appropriate imports (Tsing Tao and something else that escapes me). And Sake, though we didn't try it. We'll be sure to do that next time.
Parking is nonexistent, though it's usually not terribly hard to find something on Madison. It's a seat-yourself kind of place, or at least it seemed to be. If not, I guess we were a bit gauche. -

I had driven by this place numerous times and decided to give it a try Sunday. I was actually pleasantly surprised. The food was quite tasty. Since I've been living in Oak Park, I have been on this unsuccessful mission for Crab Rangoon. Well, Mamma Thai has it, it's excellent and it's real crab! They have a variety of very unique entrees, I tired the "Super Duck" with rice, which was very tasty and tender. The appetizer for two is a must, with a variety of really yummy starters. The service is great and you're not waiting all day for your food. I look forward to my next visit to Mama Thai!

Oak Park, IL
When I moved up to Oak Park, the first Thai restaurant the boyfriend and I tried was Mama Thai. I was not impressed then finding it relatively average but apparently failed to ever give it the 3 star rating that I thought it deserved. Fast forward 2 years to tonight when I was really wanting thai food but was getting tired of the fact that most of the thai restaurants in Oak Park vicinity served their dishes with american broccoli. Because I knew that Mama Thai actually used chinese broccoli, and because I discovered that they do online orders - my favorite!!! - I decided to give this place another shot. I'm sorry I did.
Here's the run down of my experience:
Food ordered: pad see ewe with beef, panang curry extra spicy, potstickers and vietnamese spring rolls.
Cost: $45 with delivery charge and tip - YIKES. I could have gotten delicious Sen Sushi for the same price, and I consider that to be a bit of a splurge meal. This place is significantly more expensive than other places in the area as evidenced by $7.50 spring rolls and $6.50 potstickers. If this meal was solid, the price would be totally worth it. Sadly, I cannot say that the experience was worth the money spent.
Delivery time: 1 hr.
--Time we actually received our food: 1hr20 minutes later.
Condition of food upon pulling it out of the bag:
--The spring rolls were cold, so that's a good thing. Unfortunately, so were the potstickers and the panang. The curry wasn't just luke warm; it was as if they had pulled an already portioned container of curry from the fridge and subsequently failed to heat it up before packing the order. The potstickers were clearly cold from having sat for a while. Only the pad see ewe was actually warm.
Condition of food after having eaten it:
--The potstickers tasted pre-made, like something I could grab from dominick's where I could get a package of 20 for the price I paid for 6.
--The spring rolls were poorly rolled and the lettuce or bean sprouts inside tasted dirty. Side note complaint: if you're going to call something a vietnamese spring roll, where the hell was my mint or at least some comparable herb?
--The panang was the best dish, and they did add some heat as I requested. It was just bland compared to other panangs I have had. It was a solid three star dish tops.
--The Pad see ewe - the broccoli was great as was the beef and the egg. My issue centers on the noodles that accompanied the dish. Based upon their limpness, they seemed like they were added to a stir fry dish after the fact instead of being pan fried together.
--The rice: some of the better rice I've had in the Oak Park and surrounding area. I was actually shocked by how great I thought it was.
Unfortunately, good steamed rice does not save this place from losing a star from the 3 stars I would have given this place 2 years ago had I been diligent enough in my yelping duties to have reviewed it.
I love the option of delivery on days when I'm just exhausted and don't want to have to go out, but if your restaurant cannot handle delivery without sacrificing the integrity of the food, don't do it. -

Great Food. Great Service. Great Atmosphere. I feel as if a tiny bit on the pricey side, but maybe that's just me. Really, it's an all around Great Thai Place. Great restaurant experience, great for a date, or before/after a movie.
like everything else I really like in oak park, i wish this place were open later, like til 1 a.m. - that would be awesome.
The only thing that keeps it from a 5 is that just while all of it's attributes are great, none of them are so unbelieveable as to leave you stunned.
Go here and you won't be dissapointed, you'll be very happy.

Lordy, Lordy - Some of these reviewers don't know a darn thang about Thai food!
We went into Mama Thai for a casual, late-night dinner. The restaurant claimed that they closed at 9:30pm, yet when we walked in at 8:10pm they told us that the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes. Hmmm.
For appetizers we ordered the vegetable egg rolls and vegetable tempura. The egg rolls? Not bad. The tempura? I'm not quite sure what it was. All I know is that it was so deeply fried with so much oil that I almost felt pimples popping out of my face with every single bite. You couldn't taste the carrots or broccoli - instead you felt droplets of oil dripping from your pores. It was disgusting and almost gave me a case of the runs at the table. But if that weren't enough!
For our entrees we ordered one Pepper and Garlic Beef in addition to one Vegetable Panang Curry. The second our waiter put my beef in front of me, I took one look at it and immediately began to comment on how cheap the meat was...Without even tasting it! And when I put the first bite into my mouth? Yep - VILE. I'm not even sure that this was really beef, to be quite honest with you. None of the grocery stores in my area, not even the little hole-in-the-wall stores, sell beef of such a poor quality. Pieces of tendon and fat were hanging off of my slices of beef to the point where I almost vomited what I couldn't chew...Right there at the table. When I lifted most of the beef off of my plate so that I could eat my plain white rice for dinner? That's right! The bottom of my plate was covered in so much liquified fat that it surrounded my rice.
So I thought that the Vegetable Panang Curry would be much better. WRONG AGAIN! At first bite, the panang sauce had a pretty interesting flavor but you could immediately tell that the vegetables weren't cooked fully. Shortly after swallowing this sauce, your stomach and esophagus agreed to disagree...
But I didn't even begin to tell you about the service, now did I?
Well, I mentioned that they informed us that the kitchen was closing 15 minutes after we arrived...Which was over an hour before the restaurant was due to close. As we were picking through our appetizers, the employees began to discuss when they could leave the store - including our waiter, who kept pacing back and forth in front of our table. At one point he had our check in his hand which I'm assuming he was intending on delivering. Thankfully he chose not to do so. We hadn't even gotten our entrees yet and chances are, I would've walked out of the restaurant at that point and risked the Oak Park Police Department coming after me for non-payment of inedible food.
As we signed our credit card slip and stood up from the booth, all of the employees within the restaurant (including the chefs) came walking towards the door. We weren't even on the sidewalk and the lights were off! Ridiculous. Purely ridiculous.
And the worst part about the whole thing?
Under no circumstance should you be suffering from a burning anus, nausea and terrible heartburn when you ate no more than two bites of your food. And when you're chewing raspberry mint gum, yet the taste of Panang continues to fill your mouth, there's a problem.
All in all? The end of our night was spent looking into the toilet and seeing a mirror image of what we ate...And that would be pure shit. -
