Mama, I've walked past you SO many times and thought to myself "there is NO way I could cheat on my beloved Koronets over on 110th and Broadway."
*sigh*
But alas, I am weak, and walked through your pristine doors this afternoon in search of a slice.
$1.90 later, I was gifted with quite possibly one of the better tasting slices I have enjoyed in quite some time. Fresh crust, delicious cheese, and a fantastically seasoned sauce makes for a repeat customer. And I am now one of them. I love you.
I have had better and I have had far worse, but if you have the bug for some half decent pizza...by all means get some! It's no Two Boots pizza, but for Morningside Heights it isn't bad. If you want bad pizza go to the Domino's pizza up on Amsterdam near that other awful resturant El Rey de La CariDUMP!
But I digress.
It's hit or miss at this place. Sometimes they have the right guys making the pizza and some nights...oh baby...get out the Immodium AD and/or Alkaseltzer. The amount of oil would rival that of a teenager's acne ridden face. No joke.
So the 3 stars is for the inconsistancy as a business. Plus the place looks like a shit hole.
Whatever happened to a place that took pride in what they do and how they do it.
Sad. No one cares about the little things like cleanliness and decor.
This pizza is SOOO good! Granted, I have only lived in New York for a year, and I have only eaten pizza at three or four other pizza joints. But I would have to say that this is the best pizza I've eaten on the Upper West Side. The crust is crispy, thin, not to doughy. The sauce is tart and salty. The amount of cheese is just right. Sometimes the pizza is a little bit saltier than I would like, but it is generally very good, and it is always fresh. I love to get to get a slice before I get on the M11 and head up to Columbia. The price cannot be beat, because a slice is just $1.75. Don't waste your money buying food on Broadway when you could just walk over a block and have this pizza.
