Ok Italian diner food, ok service, although we were there after lunch so it was empty, their early-bird is quite the deal, great portions too!

Just had an early dinner there today.
Had the bow-tie pasta with chicken and broccoli.
Chicken tasted a bit rubbery and clam-like.

Got home, and passed out from MSG.

    Be careful folks.
This is a nice place - but if you are sensitive to MSG, as I am.
Be very careful about what you select.

I know now, where to get good food
    - to help me go asleep :)

I used to Eat and order from mama jennies a lot, a couple of years ago.
Im sad to say that This place has gone DOWN HILL BIG TIME!!!
I recently moved to Miami Shores, So I was so excited, I knew at least one good Italian Restaurant.
After an exhausting move, We were Hungry. Really hungry. I could have eat old bread for all i care. I just wanted something warm on my stomach.
I ordered the shrimp alfredo and my friend ordered the cheese lasagna.
I had to returned my shrimp alfredo, after two bites. I couldn't take more than two bites. It was disgusting. The shrimp had the tail still in there. I looked past that. But the pasta was overcooked and all glue together. A child can cook pasta better than that. But the worst was the sauce. I can take the tail out of the shrimp and  I can eat overcooked pasta. Hey (don't judge I was HUNGRY) but The sauce what the hell was that???? I NEVER tasted anything more disgusting. It was impossible to eat. I have work in the Restaurant industry for 10 years, the last thing I wanted to do EVEr was to return a plate ( I know Better than that) But i apologize and told the waiter I couldn't eat it. He was nice and offer to switch it for something else. I ask for gnocchi but he told me they didn't have gnocchi anymore. I honestly think they did, but he knew that wasn't going to be good either. I ask for pizza. It was good.
My friend barely touched his cheese lasagna. And because I returned my plate, he didn't want to returned his. So he had to suck it up and eat 30% of his plate.
My salad was horrible. It was like they went to the market and took all the greens that were close to go bad and put them on a plate.
Besides the Food being bad, The place needs a serious deep clean. Really.
Come on guys have you heard of dusting?
Im not coming back, I will be taking my business somewhere were they try a little harder.
But the sad part is that this used to be a really good, cheap place to eat. What happened????

Great people, but food is very under par. I had the italian feast, and the chicken was overcooked, the sauce was way too pasty and bitter (my wife said it tasted like hunts tomato paste with some seasoning), and the manicotti was a bit tough (pasta). Very nice people, but they need to fire the chefs and re-open. Chef Ramsey could definitely help this place!

    At least they have Peroni.

I came to this place with high hopes that were instantly shattered when served a plastic frosted mug. From that moment forward it was one let down after another. I tried to love this place, our server was great, the lighting is warm and cozy, it's been a staple in Miami Shores forever.  The location has plenty of charm and they make u feel like family but the food is only A-OK.

The location was recommended to me by a friend who grew up in the surrounding area and loved the place as a child.  Then I remembered that I didn't know shit about good Italian food as a kid.  Let's be serious most kids eat Chef Boyardee so any Italian joint out with mom and pops is pretty awesome.

Most dishes lack flavor but there's plenty of crushed red pepper and parm on the table so u can make do.  Did I mention they have Peroni?  And the garlic bread is pretty good.... when covered with crushed red peppers and parm.

Shoot, now I am craving "I - talian food".

After a long day all you want is a good, warm meal. A group of us walked over here and waited about ten minutes for a table. They sat us at a booth which was a little cramped for comfort however, nothing intolerable.

The hostess took our drink orders as she seemed to notice the waitress was taking a bit. Shortly there after our waitress arrived and we orders our dinners plus two meals to go. Everything was ok but nothing was amazing. As we were wrapping up dinner I mentioned out two extra orders and she said they would be a bit longer. She then brought us out complimentary mini desserts which was a great way to smooth over the situation of probably forgetting to place our order.

Good portion size, ok food, ok service.

I have been a regular customer at Mama Jennie's since 1970.
However the place has changed and I can no longer recommend the delivery part of Mama Jennie's.
During the month of October 2011 I have ordered delivery service twice and both time I received cold uneatable food. I live less than 5 miles away.
Ordered pizza first time and quoted 30 mins. Called at 60 mins. And told just left.  30 mins later driver showed up with pizza box in hand. No warmer bag in sight. Paid and took the food. Took 2 bites and thru it away. Food was cold like yesterdays pizza. Called to complain, left phone number since nobody in-charge could come to phone. The girl who took the order knows me and my wife as regular customers. Nobody called back.
2 weeks later ordered again told 1 hour. Same driver showed up 1 hour 20 mins. No pizza warmer bag. Pizza wasn't even warm. Refused delivery and called Mama j asked for manager. Young guy answered phone and said nothing about what had happen, any explanation or that they were sorry.
Thanked me for calling with sarcastic attitude then hung up. He couldn't care less!
The owners don't have any idea what's going on. They left the place to people who don't care and don't give a crap. I hope this guy didn't inherited the business because they will be out of business in 6 months.

I really like the atmosphere of this place.

I was an Early Bird, so it wasn't a bad idea to have some Italian outside home for once. I am totally into their garlic rolls (bad carb) and Ralph begged me to leave his alone unless we get a 2nd plate of it, haha.

I ordered eggplant (good carb) parmesan and it was satisfying. It also came with a side of spaghetti, which I never ate because I was already too full. He got his manicotti (mmm, more cheese, pls!) , which I might try next time!

We wanted to sample their mini cannolis for the wedding (where we later postponed the delivery to.. I'll explain in my other review why), and Ralph fell in love with them. I thought they were pretty tasty as well. We had to take the chocolate cake to go. I still haven't tried their pizza yet, so no comment to that. The waitress has been really attentive to our orders although she seemed like she was in a rush.

Overall, I'd still come back here because of the good feeling I get from the place and the tasty rolls that go with the Italian dishes they serve. But for those that are carb-phobes, it's really not a good idea. Just stick to their mostly meat and part veggie dishes and maybe go for more cheese :P

I am not a fan of most Italian restaurants, usually the food is kind of lame (which boggles my mind because come on, how $%^&ing hard can it be to make pasta?)

This place was a pleasant surprise though, the service was very attentive, and our food was delivered quickly and was surprisingly good for your usual Southern Italian food...

I don't really have any complaints about this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice Italian meal in a nice quiet restaurant... I will definitely be returning here next time I crave some Italian food...

On the positive side, I like their neon signs outside!

I have eaten in the restaurant as well as ordered from here, and I can honestly say this place is very mediocre.  The pizzas are very good, especially the "triple bypass" and the "everything but the kitchen sink".  However the pizzas are a little pricey for what you get.  A large pizza here is really a medium so order accordingly.  Other than the pizza though the rest of the menu is below average to average.  If it were not for the pizza this place would be 2 stars.  The pasta and sauce are very bland, and the wings are OK.  Very cheap "italian" food, but I guess you get what you pay for.  If you are going to order pizza then go for it, but otherwise look elsewhere.

I go there for lunch most of the time. Price is very reasonable. Their lunch menu usually cost $6-$8 dollars. Their lunch also come with soup or salad, all you can eat garlic roll. So the portion is great for that price.
    I love their Chicken wings too ( $ 7 dollars for 15 wings )

My family has been going to Mama Jennies for 25 years!!!! I love this place. Part of the reason I love it is our server, Marge. We usually go on nights when she is there because she is the waitress that really makes this place feel like you're going to a friend's house for dinner rather than a restaurant.

If you go, definitely try to make it for the early bird. I usually get the Chicken Parmesan. It's huge and yummy. I always have at least half of it to take home.

I don't really like their pizza, and the food is never as good when you get it take out.

One really awesome thing about this place, is that they have a generator. So, during hurricanes when the power goes out, Mama Jennies is open! Overall, I love this place, and it is so homey inside.

I've never been a big fan of Italian restauraunts. Most places are pretty much the same, sort of like Americanized Chinese food.
    Boring uniformity.

My friend has been reccomending this place for years, so now that I live less than two miles from it I figured I'd finally give it a try.

Before we even had time to think the garlic rolls were already delivered to our table, the waitress ready to take our drink orders.
The menu was more extensive than most, even combination plates if you couldn't decided on just one thing. The meals even come with soup or salad which is always a nice touch.

Although the food wasn't amazing, it was good enough to make me enjoy my meal and not feel like I spent my money on something I could do better at home.
I will definately be coming here more often.

Always a good way to catch a quick bite to eat, Mama Jennie's has a warm mom and pop feel to it.....all we need is an accordionist singing some old italian classics. I would give this place 4.5 stars if I was able to. The service here has always been 5 stars. I enjoy and recommend the eggplant parmesian because of its taste and texture.....no chance you're going to get an overdone/burned eggplant parm here :) Their garlic rolls are amazing. Their prices are absolutely amazing. Dinner $$ whereas lunch is $ because of their lunch specials!

I grew up down the street and lived there for 22 years...  I ate A LOT of Mama Jennie's growing up.  To this day, its not my favorite.  I was never a big fan of their Italian food.  The best thing on the menu - the garlic rolls and antipasto.  You can't screw that up...  Avoid the steak sandwiches and pizza...  The pasta is mediocre...

I would give this place no stars if I could, simply because of the terrible service. They offer online ordering, but obviously this is all for show. If your order online, your food will never come.

I have ordered from this place twice online. The first time was for pick up, which was a disaster because I had to wait 45 minutes at the counter for the food to arrive (after they asked me what I had ordered about 3 times).

Tonight, I ordered again and decided to have it delivered to avoid that problem again. After an hour and a half I called to see what was going on. Turns out they never got my order! (Perhaps that is what happened last time, too?) I was starving and had to scramble up a dinner at home instead.

I did learn something. The next time I have an urge for Italian food, I will make my own. It was delicious.

It's an old family style restaurant with your classic pasta dishes. You can expect to wait since the price is right and it's very popular with the neighborhood familes.

Reasonable price and quality. Having lived in NY and eaten in Little Italy and Brooklyn, not authentic Italian. More like American Italian, but good food and quantity. Waiter seemed new and acted like he was doing us a favor waiting on us. Nothing seemed to flow smoothly. Not fancy but family fun dining. Marge is the best but she only stepped in to take our desert order. Hostess seemed nice but was abused by an extremely obese diner who was angry he wasn't seated fast enough to gorge some more. Kind of sums up the atmosphere that night.
