Mama Gina's is probably the best pizza deal in town. The quality is up there with any of the 'swank' thin crust places, but you don't have to pay as much. Overall, a great experience.

I had a slice and it was one of the worst slices I had.
Minimal cheese, nonexistent sauce,.
Not good at all. -

First dinner in my new place in Union Sq - Mama Gina's delivery.
Worked up a big appetite after a long day of painting. Placed the order around 8:30PM Friday night and had the delivery in just under a half hour.
Pizza was good. I liked the crust - it was thinner than an average pizza, but still just enough thickness to keep it chewy. Also had the perfect proportions of sauce and cheese.
The fried raviolis were also pretty good, but the ones at the top of the container were a little cold and hard while the ones at the bottom were still hot and gooey. They are probably best enjoyed right out of the fryer and not through delivery.
All in all, as Yelp says when you click 3 stars, first impression of Mama Gina's was "A-OK" -

Mama Gina's is a basic pizza/sub shop close to my motorcycle dealership... so whenever i am in Union Square... I am sure to stop in for a sub.
Their subs are excellent... great bread... and they LISTEN to your order (saying 'extra hots' will actually get you extra hots).
the staff was a little put off by me- maybe because i asked how their day was going- but were nice enough.
Prices are acceptable and for a sub shop... it fairly clean. -

Great pizza at a good price. Recommend the Tuscan pizza with feta added.

Mama Gina's was close to work, so i decided to try with a co-worker. The method that i use to determine whether or not a restaurant makes a good pizza is simple: I get half cheese, and half-topping. That way i get a full experience of how they are because most any place can make a decent cheese pizza. If they cant, then Yelp is there to tell the Masses.
I ordered a half-mushroom, half-cheese pizza from them, and it was made faster than they stated. The interior was larger than most places and was very clean. The staff was good with the orders and curtious. The menu was good sized, and the prices were good.
Overall, the pizza was really very good, and the topping actually improved the taste of the pizza. My co-worker and I usually look for places that we can buy pizzas for people for events or birthdays, and this is now the default place for us. Definitely a spot to try for new-to-the-area people, or something quick for the alien movie you just rented. -

I judge pizza places by their mozzerella sticks, and this place gets the thumbs up. Cheap, fast, tasty, tolerated me and my boyfriend walking in to pick up our order 10 minutes after closing (oops).

Go Classic Rock Pizza!
This is hands down the best pizza in Union Square. It's thin crust, a little doughy but good.
Update: The sauce is a little sweet and a lot garlic. The crust is quite crispy and sturdy for thin crust pizza. The cheese is OK but doesn't really have the flavor to match the sauce and crust.Listed in: Slices

The best slice of pizza I've had in ten years in Boston.
I've never gotten a sandwich here, I've never ordered anything to go or for delivery, and still I give them five stars. Why? The slices are full size yet thin, the crust bordering on crisp, the sauce and cheese even and restrained in their amounts. It reminds me of the wood-oven pies of New Jersey, a delicious thin slice that you just want to sprinkle a little oregano on and love every moment you spend together.Listed in: The Best Five Bucks You Ever…

Mama Gina's (and the seedy convenience store down a couple doors down) encapsulate everything I miss about Boston 10 years ago.
It's a little dingy, got some cool stuff on the walls. Everyone who works tehre grew up togehter (and apparently used to get into a lot of fights in lincoln pahk). It's a total local pizza joint, which I think it really fuckin cool.
but on top of that, their pizza is pretty good. I'm willing to break with my diet form time totime to stop in and enjoy it (and for those of you who know me, and know how well I digest wheat these days, that's a better review than any nice things I can say)
Point is, I love this place, and if I found out it were going under, I'd cry.

Mama Gina's makes some great pizza, it's thin, crisp & the sauce is very flavorful. We went there yesterday for some slices and my bf got the chicken finger plate. The chicken fingers & the fries that came with it were very good. The side of BBQ sauce wasn't anything to write home about, but the chicken didn't need any extras to be tasty.
They have lots of sides, including jalepeno poppers, onion rings garlic bread, etc. Oh, and be sure to try their deep fried ravioli, I haven't found many places in the area that make this side, and Mama Gina's does an excellent job. It comes with a side of their marinara.
If you are not in the mood for pizza, they also make a fine sub or wrap with any topping imaginable. I love their steak & cheese. They make salads as well, but I've never tried them.
They deliver, but there is a $1 delivery fee. -
Review from Devon M.
I've ordered from here once with Cara on super bowl Sunday and once for a little romantic, candlelit calzone filled dinner with Jesse. Both were very solid experiences. The first experience came about because Cara and I wanted buffalo chicken tenders and all of the wing places weren't picking up. Go figure. I looked on foodler and placed and order for two chicken wing dinners for me and my lady friend. It was delivered within a reasonable amount of time (under 45 minutes on a super busy day) and our food was nice and hot. The buffalo chicken was spicy, sauce covered, and abundant, and the fries were oh so delicious and crunchy. The blue cheese was a generous in size and had a good flavor. We also ordered jalapeno poppers, just to make she we consumed enough grease.
The second time was on a Thursday night with Jesse, and I enjoyed the buffalo chicken so much that I ordered it again. I ordered him a sausage and ricotta calzone as he was sleeping. The calzones are gigantic and really, really good. We normally order from Dial A Pizza, but Mama Gina's did give it a run for it's money.
The service is always friendly if we have to call, and they always put the tip on before it's delivered so no signature is required. The quicker they are gone, the quicker you're eating your dinner! We'll definitely be ordering again......if nothing else, the buffalo chicken dinner when we're wanting something spicy to burn up our digestive systems. -

This was my goto pizza place when I first moved to Cambridge. I then moved away from the delivery zone but now that I am back I have discovered they have the best veggie subs. They actually call them cheese subs cause they give you a ton of cheese. The first time I made the mistake and ordered extra cheese which was a bit much. But as is, is perfect. I order with foodler which is good because the default veggie options limit what I would normally order which is an overflow of different veggies. Just having a few and some good cheese, and the best hots, equals a perfect sub.
The prices are as cheap as subway and so much better.
The pizza is still really good, though now I tend to go for the subs here. -

The small calzone was huge. I got 3 meals out of it. The subs are also really good and very reasonably priced. (most sub toppings are included in the price)
They even have fried ravioli. I haven't seen those on menus for a while, so that was a nice surprise.
Foodler requires an order of $10 to check out, and Mama Gina's charges $1.50 for delivery, so the price can get up there, but I've never had a bad meal here, so I think it's worth it. Delivery drivers are fast and friendly. -

A couple weeks ago two of Jessi's friends from college (a married couple) were visiting us here in Somerville. Jessi and her girlfriend went out to go shopping, leaving us guys to fend for ourselves before meeting them in the North End for dinner. Not knowing how else to pass the time we decided to have our own little pub crawl from Porter Square to Quincy Market. So we headed down Beacon St. towards Boston stopping at every bar on the way. When we got to Abbey Lounge there was a guy who had just come from Mama Gina's with two pies and was giving away slices to everyone in the bar. We availed ourselves and discovered that they were surprisingly good. This was my first Mama Gina's experience.
Then, the other night, we decided to order pizza. So I chose Mama Gina's again. This time, sadly, our pizza was a little too cold when it go to us and so not all that good. But I still hold out hope!
I'll need to go there and get a fresh pie before I can give my final review, but based on my experience so far this is a damned good pizza place, especially for Boston. I have high hopes for this place meeting my extremely high pizza standards. -

Decent pizza place - all the usual menu items that you'd expect in a pizza/sub shop.
The pizza is quite good, but nothing earth-shattering.
The staff at Mama Gina's are always friendly, and prices are pretty standard for this sort of establishment. -

I just moved down the road from this place. I've noticed this establishment before, but never made it part of my pizza rotation.
However, since I was close, surrounded by boxes, without food, and hungry I decided to give them a try. What an outstanding thin crust pizza! Dough is fresh, sauce was nice, cheese was real, roni was roni. I am glad I live right near them because I think I found my new ace of the rotation. I'd order this pizza for friends. -

Since we've discovered Mama Gina's, my roommates and I have ordered from there weekly.
I usually get the grilled chicken wrap. Here's the thing: they can make anything your little heart desires. The first time we ordered, we didn't even look at a menu... i get my grilled chicken wrap just the way I want :)
We've been ordering by phone for delivery and last week went into the restaurant to pick it up. It's your typical greasy joint...
The point is, the food is delicious, but the decor leaves a lot to be desired - so take it to go or get it delivered! -

It kills me to write this because I love to support my neighborhood small businesses, and the staff at this place is always friendly. But ... the food has been consistently terrible every time I've tried it, and I really did give it more than one second chance.
If my order wasn't swimming in grease, it was stone cold. If it wasn't bland, it was burn-your-taste-buds-dead overspicy. So cheap isn't cheap if what you get is inedible and you end up going someplace else the same night. -

This might supplant Uppercrust as my new go-to pizza joint based on a few things:
1. Location: It's not perfect by any means, but it's in Union with a number of other greats places making it an easy quick lunch. Plus it's abot five minutes from my place.
2. Quality: Their pizza is solid with exceptionally creamy cheese and the crust is chewy and delicious.
3. Price: $4 even for two slices and a 20oz soda. Amazing.

This place is great! Me and Mo were lost walking through Union Sq, and we need a rest in the summer of 2008. While shopping for her new Cambridge residence, we found Mama Gina's. It reminded me of pizzeria's in NY and NJ growing up. A hot whole in the wall with friendly, down to earth ppl.
1.50 for a cheese slice
2.00 for a one topping slice
Yesterday, we got a maui pizza. So we figure just get the med for 11 bucks [ham and pine]. mmmm the guy says itll take 10 mins so we went around the corner for a beer. we come back and I try to pay but I have no cash. I pay with card and ask, " where's the tip line"? He says, " no worries".
When we got home, we noticed that the med is the same as a lg at a pizza hut and the maui came with bacon, a definite hit as me and mo killed the whole thing. -

The pizza was nice and greasy (pepperoni and mushroom) and the onion rings were decent.
We walked in and ordered to go - service was pretty fast. -

I was in the mood for a calzone delivered and I thought Yelpers liked this place.. Honestly , I won't be ordering from there again.
I called in advance to get a sense for the size of their one-size-fits-all calzone. The guy on the phone said they were very big and could easily feed two people - not true.
The calzone was small - not tiny, but I could have eaten it myself no-problem.
The quality was just okay: the filling was tasty, but sparse, the crust was chewy and thin.
We also ordered a garden salad with really unripe disgusting tomatoes, an to top it all off we were the unfortunate recipients of a dead fruit fly on a tomato.

Welcome to Mama Gina's, lemme show you around! Did you have much trouble timing the walk lights to get to the front door? Don't worry, everybody does. Or did you drive? I know there isn't any real parking to speak of, unless you have a trick up your sleeve, or a somerville sticker on your car...
So! Here you have it. The average sub shop. It is hot as hades inside here most of the time, but that's when the doors are propped open, and the big fan goes on - and trust in the fact that the back room is MUCH HOTTER at all times.
It looks as though the menu hasn't been changed/altered since 1950, and the booths since probably the same era, but don't be fooled- the pizza here is pretty damn good, if you are in the area, find parking, or want to dash across 6 lanes of traffic to get here. Once you do, you'll find it's affordable too. My dad likes to eat here for lunch, and my little sister enjoys the fact that they have a huuuuugggggeeee gumball machine. -

Ugh. I thought I'd give Mama Gina's a second chance (I had a craving for wings), and it was worse. 1hr + delivery time to get 4 blocks. Fries were cold, no bleu cheese with the buffalo wings. Cold fries. Cold fries! Ugh. It's like there's no effort whatsoever.

Wow - I must have some bad pizza karma going on, because my experience was drastically different. Really hoped to like this place because it's close and cheap and reviews below are good. Looks like a hole in the wall and the menu is sparse and not professional looking - would have been a charming neighborhood find if it was at all good. Large pizza was quite small with hardly any sauce and zero flavor. Crust was thin but chewy. Two stars because the guys were nice and they cook the chicken topping to order rather than pulling pre-cooked stuff out of a bucket.

When I moved to Union Square in January I was looking for a close pizza joint for italian grinders and late-night drunken pizza binges. This was the best place I found. The guys that work there are really nice and they even have banana peppers for my grinder! Yay! It tastes quite similar to my favorite in Providence. The pizza isn't so shabby either.

Pretty decent pizza-- thin crispy crust, good sauce, not too greasy, good size slices. Quick ,friendly service, and they take cards, so you don't have to worry about having ca$h on you. it didn't blow my mind, but it was definitely yummy.

How 'please no garlic unless it is roasted' turned into 'please, cover my pizza with a BLANKET of raw, chopped garlic' is beyond me. Inedible pizza, and not to sound like the old joke but it was cold on arrival as well.

Good cheap eat! Nice take out place in the neighborhood. Nice thin pizza with great taste topping, which has much better taste than Union Square Pizza across the street.

My favorite pizza around! It's consistently delicious, quick, and not too greasy. Not to mention really cheap, and usually fast delivery. We usually also get the buffalo wings (and dip the pizza in the blue cheese) and the fried ravioli too. I don't know what I'd do without this place, really. It's the best comfort food I know.
