Mama Ann can you please move to Rocklin? I really don't want to drive all the way to El Dorado Hills but I will because you have the best panini that I have ever had!

I got the Princess Pride (Pastrami, Roasted Red Peppers, Cream Cheese on Grilled Dark Rye), which I thought was the best panini that I have ever tried until I took of bite if my husband's panini, The Gondola (Blazing Buffalo Chicken Breast, Pepper Jack Cheese, Lettuce,  Tomatoes, Onions, Ranch Dressing,  Garlic Butter on a Roll)...WOW!

We also grabbed a couple of Italian beers, out of their huge selection of drinks, and loved them both.

Hmmm, I'll have to try something else on the menu.  The Eggplant Sandwich was light on filling and lots of fluffy bread.  The side of blue cheese potato salad was pretty tasty though, but nothing really struck us as exciting.

Let me know what to order!

    Great, unique sandwiches.

I find myself here quite a bit. It is a little longer drive for us but they have a big menu and it is all tasty. I am partial to the turkey reuben but I have tried many items on the menu and they are all consistently good.

The line and wait for food can be a little long but the food is worth it.

I really enjoy the sandwiches, lasagna and chicken parmesan.  In fact, they have the best chicken parmesan around.  The only place that was better was My Brother Vinny's in Old Town Folsom, but they closed a few years' back now.  There pizza is good for the price - $9.99 for large cheese.

This place is like family :) Johanna b just do you know this is the original mama Anna they sold the menu to the one in folsom the EDH one is responsible for all the recipes. The brother and sister that own this joint are he son and daughter of "mama Ann" who's recipes are used.

I'm sorry, I don't know if Mama Ann is on vacation or what but she needs to come back. When we went last week it was all teenagers running the show and it sure tasted like it. We should've just bought a couple bottles of beer and some Puntini and left. My husband wanted to "go to dinner" afterward. "Now can we go eat?"

This is nowhere near as good as the one in Folsom was. The service was merely adequate, and the pasta salads were both completely overdressed and tasted almost like chemicals, NOTHING like the Mama Ann's of old with fresh delicious ingredients. It seemed like everything was made with a little dollop of love in Folsom. In EDH, there will be no more dollops of anything.

You always take for granted how great a place is until it's gone. I just wish whoever has the rights to this name would make it right again. Is the location too expensive to keep the standards of the old place up? Because I'll drag my baby and husband to the ghetto to get some good old Mama Ann's. The food we had was hardly worth paying for: It was cold and  they didn't even give us plates. There's no way I can get my husband to take me back here unless I drug him first.

Where's the lady with the short and curly brown hair that made everything OK? Where's that sweet, pretty little lady that talked to me about baby names and my broken-legged husband in surgery? Mama Ann, where are you?

The only part of this deli I recognized was the meatballs with tons of Oregano. I don't mind that as long as everything was the way it was and it sure isn't now. It costs more, though. Did some rich golfer take over? I need an explanation!

I know I sound like a whiny brat. I don't care! This sucks! I would give a one star rating but they do have Puntini-automatic star-for 27.00 A POUND. The nice lady used to just give you some at the old deli in Folsom. Mama Ann, you need to come back and tune this place up. This is seriously sad, I don't know what happened.

The Gelato was nice , good on a hot day.

The sandwiches, i have to say, they are Jenny CRAIG size ones.. so just get Two whole at a time.  (sure your paying twice the price, but the quality and goodness are all up to you to order)

Really good sandwiches, above average pizza (for California) and great selection of take home options. I really like the side pasta salads.  The shop is an interesting blend of authentic Euro deli and grocery shop. Kids love the fun soda selections. Fits right in place in the EDH town center.

So there I was cruising home on highway 50 craving a sandwich- I used Yelps nearby search and saw that Mama Ann's was nearby and decided to give it a shot.

The deli reminds me of an old Italian deli that I went to for years in San Francisco. Plenty of seating, Easy parking. Located in the best center in El Dorado Hills.

I found the menu to be impressive- Hot and cold sandwiches, soups, lasagna, etc...

I ordered the "Big Pauly", chips and a soda for under $10.

The sandwich was tasty and plenty big. One thing I noticed was that the hot mustard used on the sandwich was quite hot. While I liked it, it would have been inedible for my kids or those not into the hot mustard scene.

The sandwich arrived fairly fast and hot. As others noted the service could be a bit friendlier- I noticed as soon as I got in that nobody acknowledged me standing at the order counter although three employees walked right by me. Also when the sandwich was ready it was tossed on the counter with no smile or even an "enjoy".  The food was good, but don't expect a happy face to be serving your food.

Come here for the food, it's worth it. Don't come here expecting to be pampered by the staff. I thought maybe they were going with the "angry deli" theme I've seen in New York Deli's where they are too busy to bother with being friendly- Only problems with this here are that it wasn't busy, the food wasn't THAT good, and we expect better in El Dorado Hills.

It was this or the thai joint in the same complex, prior to the movie.  I'm really glad we choose this deli.  We ordered a couple of the paninis (meatball for me, some specialty sandwich for the mrs.), chips, and a couple of drinks.  Both were really, really good.  Service was pretty good, and lunch for 2 on a weekday, in this particular shopping/entertainment center, for $15.  That's pretty damn good.

The movie was "Arthur," and it was boo-boo.

After receiving several coupons in the mail,  I decided to give it a try. Myself and a family member had our first experience at this deli last Thursday (1-20-11.) The store is in a great location - the surroundings are quaint and clean.

We went to eat around lunch time - the store wasn't too packed. When I glanced at the menu, I felt pretty overwhelmed. The selection or variety is extensive. I decided to try the Bella Sole (lemon pepper chicken, mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onions on dark rye) panini. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious! I also ordered a side of Farfalle pasta, which was yummy. I spent a total of $13.92 for two sandwiches and a side of pasta, thanks to the "Buy one, get one half off"coupon. The hot and cold panini prices range from $5.75 - $7.75. For just a $1.99 more, you can make it a meal and add a fountain drink and a bag of chips. I look forward to trying more paninis!

FYI - Andrea D. had mentioned that her sandwiches were made without the use of gloves, that didn't happen to me, thankfully.

This place wasn't anything special. After reading good reviews on yelp, we decided to check it out on our way to Tahoe. When we got there, the girl behind the counter was chit-chatting with one of her friends who stopped by and didn't really pay much attention to us standing there. Once we ordered and paid, she was making our sandwiches WITHOUT gloves - after handling money and touching everything. Gross and unsanitary. The sandwiches were a bit overpriced and not even that good. It said "fresh mozzarella" and all I got was normal sliced mozz. After finishing my sandwich that I could have made 10 times better for way cheaper [I got the That's Amore panino], I looked back to see the girl slicing cheese barehanded.

Then we decided to get some gelato. Bad idea. I don't know if it's because I've tasted that authentic Italian gelato before or because this place kinda sucks but the gelato was really hard, gummy and tasteless [we got pistachio]. After one bite I was done with it.

The rest of my family thought their sandwiches were just okay as well - nothing special - and no one liked the gelato. Even after reading the good reviews from this place, I wouldn't come back here due to its unsanitary teenage staff and mediocre sandwiches.

If you're looking for high-quality, authentic Italian food at a reasonable price, Mama has you covered.

I know, first-hand, that all of the food is made fresh daily in authentic Italian tradition. The meatballs are simmered in marinara sauce starting early in the morning. The lasagna is built daily. The pizza is made from scratch.

But, honestly, the reason I normally find myself at Mama's is to visit the deli, featuring Boar's Head meats.

I personally like the Gondola, which has buffalo chicken breast, thinly sliced and stacked on a roll toasted with garlic butter. Then a little ranch dressing, onions, lettuce, and tomato and I'm in heaven.

My wife gets the Koo Koo's own. She is Italian, so she loves the authentic meats and roasted red peppers.

Also, give the Italian pasta salad a shot. I don't know what it is, but I could eat a tub by myself.

Between Mama Ann's and Beach Hut Deli, I could eat sandwiches exclusively for the rest of my life and die a happy man.

Awww, we loved the sandwiches here.  During a three-day stay here, we had a total of four sandwiches!  We had the meatball (huge, juicy meatballs, tangy tomato sauce), chicken parmigiana (my bf said it reminded him of East coast style sandwiches he used to get in Boston), a turkey sandwich with mustard on the side (perfect for a hiking/gold-panning trip), and a combo deli meats sandwich w/ roasted bell peppers and olive spread on the side (also perfect for a taking with you on a day trip out).

We wish Mama Ann's would be closer to San Francisco where we are, but we'll definitely be back when in the area.

I would've give Mama Ann's 5 stars, but the people behind the counter were only so-so friendly.  Nothing personal, but they could smile a bit more and be more Italian hospitable.  I could ignore it though as their sandwiches were *awesome*!

Well...I think I gotta be the voice of reason and reality here.
This deli is great, I love that it has Italian products you can't really find anywhere else.
The salads are varied and very good but four to five stars? Sorry guys, Ive had better.
I had the very tasy "Fat Pauly".. hot pastrami, swiss, peppercionis, lettuce, which satisfied but I have to say I was disappointed by one thing.
When you read "panini"? What comes to mind ? A hot melty sandwich ?
Ya .. not the case here. Im not Italian but apparently "panini" means "sandwich"... ok cool but that's not what I was expecting. Dont get me wrong it was very tasty !
This is one of our go-to spots when Im in the Sacramento areas.

A very good lunch spot.. manga!

Mama Ann's has fabulous sandwiches. My fav is the Gondola. It has Boar's Head chicken...a little spicy...to give it a little kick. We have little ones and it's nice to pick up a small lasagna or a pizza from there. The kids love the food. Recently tried their tomato pesto focacia. It was divine.  It left the lasagna in the dust. Their garlic bread is good too.

We love gelato - they don't have as many varieties as Nugget - but they are delish.

I work across the street from this place, and I stumble through here to grab some cheap garlic bread or day old pizza. The sandwhiches are a bit pricey, but good anyways. I'd say its my favorite place to eat local, it's prices range from dirt cheap to pretty high up there, like any place, its all about finding the good deals.

My Fiancee and myself had our first date At Mama Ann's and we still eat there regularly. The cheap food is in the second refrig down the hallway past the register.

I asked the workers what is the most well known sandwich and all 3 of them said that Gondola is their favorite.   I tried it out, I think I've been spoiled since I've tasted quite a few 5 star sandwich shops and I regularly buy Boar's Head for my deli meats.  It was good but it wasn't as good as some places I've had in SF and LA.   Nevertheless, I found the place to be a gem and definitely much better than your average deli shop.

While it's old location featured a STELLAR italian grocery section, this location focuses more on instant gratification -- a full deli, featuring Italian meats, cheeses, and a few great antipasto selections.  Definitely the best deli in El Dorado Hills, Mama Ann's also has a GREAT make at home section -- fresh pasta sauces, lasagne, pizza dough, great cheeses, pastas, etc., for you to take home (and take all the credit for!)  Mama Ann's also has a small but fun grocery section, great gelato, and a really excellent drink case.  A five star place FOR SURE if I had never been to their old location in Folsom -- a larger space with some great Italian groceries!  I miss it!

This place makes the best lasagna.  It's better than I make!  That being said, this place could be a 5-star destination but it too has it faults.  Many have been pointed out already:  too much chit-chatting going on behind the counter, too pricey for the size - all of which could be remedied if managment really wanted this place to rock like it did when it first opened.
