That's a good thing because so far Malta & Co has been the best management company I've ever rented from. We've lived in our apartment now for almost two years and we couldn't be happier. They are efficient, friendly and fair.
I really lucked out with Malta & Company. Since before I moved in, during my tenancy, and now upon my departure, they have been nothing but completely professional, reliable and trustworthy which I believe are quite admirable qualities for a property management company that is adequately involved with one's quality and comfort of living.
Everything has been very thorough from day one. Also, the two times I needed some assistance regarding a stopped up sink or my slashed screen upon move-in, it was fixed within 1 day. Also, when my dead bolt simply would not open, Vincent came over himself. Quite the nice fellow...he looks like an Italian straight from New Jersey, part of the mafia, perhaps. Their responsiveness has been more than appreciated.
Debra is extremely professional and always on time for appointments. She also is using 'best efforts' to get my entire security deposit back to me (minus the $$ to shampoo the carpets. Lame that I have to shampoo the carpets. Seems wrong...whatever, not worth a fight).
They're property managers and I believe they also serve as real estate agents if you're looking to buy in the SF area. I really have loved working with this company and hope that whomever I rent from in Chicago can fill their shoes.
I looked at an apartment that Debra was showing yesterday. While I didn't get it, I found Malta to be considerate and professional:
- They didn't charge an application fee. I suspect that many people showing apartments just run credit checks on a few applicants and pocket the cash from everyone else. In a city with such a tight rental market, this seems like an easy way for the less ethical among us to make a quick profit.
- Debra called me (and presumably all other applicants) today to let us know that the owners had gone with someone else.
In my long and storied rental history, I have never dealt with such a professional, nice, competent rental agency as Malta. They have always responded to my questions and/or problems immediately and do continual upkeep on the building such as weekly interior cleaning and hosing down the sidewalk outside.That may not seem like a big deal for some people, but it is great compared to how bad it can be.
Not the best, not the worst. Maybe times are tough. I've had to wait longer than usual for repair requests, and the last one was done kind of haphazardly. Get on the ball!
This is my favorite management company! From the selection of my apartment to the entire explanation of the contract Debra was very professional and helpful. I moved in and had some problems with my keys and she was there to assist me immediately. The steps going down to the garage were broken and she responded immediately with a memo to the entire building informing of the problem. I really like the apartment and the management company is great too.
