Definitely not the worst place I've ever been but it's pretty run down.

*The few adult video games they had were fine.
*The mini-golf wasn't all that challenging.
*The food was mediocre but I was surprised to see beer on the menu.
*Prizes seemed cooler than those at Dave & Busters but the ones we got didn't work.
*Loved the batting cages although one didn't work at all and another was spitting two softballs out at a time.
*The bumper boats didn't seem entertaining enough to even try.

Overall, it was a good place to waste a few hours.

Bratty kids squirting water at me and the bf from the filthy water bumper boats. Angsty teen employees. Cheap mini-golf. Musty waterfalls.  Cholas y vatos on date night. Most excellent view of the freeway. Kicking my bf's ass at basketball. Skeeball. 74 tickets = two army men and a flying fist. Way too many disgustingly stereotypical "couple" pictures. Classic.

Basically, I heart cheesy date night, no matter how ghetto.

(Reviewing the mini-golf / putt-putt ONLY)

Boring course, terrible upkeep, bad equipment, and pricey.  Boo.

There are technically 3 courses of 18 holes each, but they are TERRIBLE.  There are only 5 or 6 "fancy" holes, where the ball goes up a ramp (same ramp on every one) and under a house to pop out on the other side (always into a circle).  There are only about 3 other gimmicks overall, and SEVERAL repeat holes.  On at least one hole, the fake turf was incredibly torn up and impossible to putt on.  And in addition, the putters used are the cheap, unbalanced rubber kind and the balls given to us were scratched up pretty roughly.

The only upside?  The 18th hole returns your ball, so if you want you can play the whole sucky course again.  Joy.

Mini golf ALWAYS sounds like it's going to be more fun than it actually turns out to be.

I love the idea of whipping around the track in a controlled four-wheel slide racing the clock. I wanted to try out Malibu Grand Prix for a long time. I'm pretty good at it and I knew I would be. It took a long time to get someone to go along with me and I didn't want to go alone.

Finally a few years ago I got a friend to go but he didn't just want to drive the cars, he wanted to try everything so we bought the all-inclusive package. First we drove the GP cars and it was as awesome as I knew it would be but it went by too quickly. Then we used up our arcade tokens. Next we played mini golf, it was boring and frustrating. Finally all that was left were the bumper boats. I didn't want to even do it, I thought it was just boats bumping into each other but we paid for it so we tried it out. I never knew that the boats had a squirt gun attached. We started and some kid, maybe 12 y/o, squirted me. I caught him in the turn and soaked him for about 15 seconds. This is amazing; bumper boats have to be the only venue in the country where it's acceptable to abuse children!

I've been back a few times, the most recent with a group of about 20 people, Mini Golf is boring but it's a more social than driving the cars. It costs $7.99 a round but no one is enforcing it so when you get the putter and ball you can play all three of the courses all day if you like.

Great batting cages! You can practice baseball slow and fast pitch, or softball slow pitch. The only thing missing was softball fast pitch, but I have to say... Malibu already had a much better variety than I had expected.

The mini-golf course is a little sad-looking. I much prefer the "theme" ones where you have to try to hit the ball into a little house or an animal's mouth. The one at Malibu Castle is pretty dull. The arcade is kind of small. Bumper boats look like they would be fun on a hot day.

I went there with the team in the afternoon after practice at BIAC (practically next door). It reminded me of the huge arcades which I grew up with which were at Fisherman's Wharf but with more attractions. They combine an arcade with mini-golf and batting cages in one location. The exterior is very cute and designed kind of like a Disneyland castle. I took a quick tour through the place, stayed to watch my team mates in the batting cages, but did not have enough time to play a round of mini golf. I will have to return to play a round and maybe some skee ball : )

I already posted a review under Malibu Grand Prix so here it is:

This place just isn't quite as fun as it was when I was a kid.  Maybe that is because it hasn't been cleaned or renovated since I was a kid?

The grand prix cars are fun.  I give them credit for that.  The putt-putt courses are sub par-par.  They could use a bit of repair, but are still fun every once in a blue moon.  The bumper boats are worth a try if it isn't cold.  Don't go if it is cold because there are always kids that want to spray everybody with the provided squirt guns.  I have not tried the batting cages.

The indoor arcade, food stand, and overall service is what is really lacking.  There are actually two buildings.  One that is part of the lobby for the grand prix cars and one that is in the main castle.  I waited for 15 minutes one night to get a manager to fix a game for me where I won the prize but couldn't collect it.  I finally gave up and left because there was not a person in sight that worked there.  We also had a jacket "go missing" while we were playing a game, so be mindful of your stuff.  It never turned up in the lost and found.  Don't eat the food.

I remember when Malibu used to be the "spot" to come to. Where the games were updated and in working order, and getting the best value for your money. That was 10 years ago, Nowadays, Malibu is a poor excuse to be a "Entertainment center." I mean, if you like to get 3 tokens, for your dollar... Please go right ahead. Really, the only reason I'd go was for the batting cages, which now you pay $2 for a handful of pitches. It used to be $1.00 total. Most games are outdated, and they refuse to keep up to par. Truthfully, save your money and go the little distance to Golfland. In all seriousness, they're running shit. They kick Malibu's behind in all directions from, Racing games, Fighting Games, Family Games, Golf etc. Time for a remodel, or a shut down.

What the, why are there two listings for Malibu? Dang details...here's the review I posted for the "other" one...

Arcades?? Random games that can potentially spew tickets?? Can exchange these tickets for useless crap?? Grand prix cars?? Batting cages?? Mini golf??

I don't like the:
1. Long lines.
-Not into the crowds, D + B gets people in n' out quicker.
2. Cleanliness.
-The place and the grand prix cars could use a good scrub from
   Chlorox wipes.
3. Cost.
-It's a lil' too pricey for me...

Final Call:
Lots of options to play, all sorts of activities. It's expensive though, once in awhile is okay. If you do go, roll with a group or with a fun date...at least make those hard earned dollas count!

Rather old school but still fun minature golf place that also has a batting cage, bumper boats, and video game arcade. For $8.99 for an adult you can choose one of 3 different 18-hole minature golf courses. These holes are fun but not as updated and creative as more modern ones I've been to - for instance, no windmills trying to block your ball.

Getting here is a slight pain. Even though it's right off on the side of 101, you can't get off Whipple to get there as there is a ton of repavement going on and they blocked the road to this place. So you have to get off Woodside East and take a left at this shady looking road that's also under construction.

Bottom line: Tired, old-school courses, but still fun with the kids or on a date. For those more economical people (hey, it's a rough world out there now), show up the first hour they're open, and it's only $3.50 per adult.

I came here last week with a friend for some mini golfing as she 21 years old and has never been mini golfing or has played golf in general. Overall the course as not changed since I was kid the layout is the same. We came here on a weekday and around 12:45 to find that the first hour they open it's open it's only 3.50 a game +1 star for that. Also it wasen't crowed except for some groups of adults and parents with their kids. Don't they work or have school?

For everyone who has complained saying the astroturf is run down they we're replacing it on course 3 so it seems like there finally fixing that with summer coming up. The place is still pretty run down, but cheap game of mini golf for an hour or 2 is not bad as the 18th hold doesn't take your ball we played course 1 and 2 as there the same things just in different order. Overall I think she had fun and It was cheap and I won myself lunch off her lol.

Word of advice for Malibu turn on the same fountains and clean the water it looked disgusting.

As a child, Malibu Castle was one of my all-time favorite places to go (alongside Chuckie Cheeses and Bullwinkle's of course!). On the weekends, my parents would often bring my brother and me plus our friends to Malibu's version of child gambling. Instead of adult casinos where you play for money, we would play for "tickets" that we could redeem for prizes. (and now I love Vegas!) Unless we saved up tickets from multiple visits (even though my parents were very generous with the tokens!), it was very challenging to get one of the big prizes or even anything much better than a cloth bracelet. The wide variety of games were super fun anyways though!

We would also often enjoy (a fairly unhealthy) lunch of pizza and slurpees at the "cafe." Sometimes, we would follow up lunch with a round of miniature golf to walk off some of the calories ;). The courses are a bit run-down but still creative and fun to play. I've also used the batting cages a couple of times and the best time was when the batting cage would not turn off and continued to give balls without any money needed!

Right before Christmas, you can often buy a special certificate for tons of extra tokens. They also host many the birthday party and donate rounds of mini golf to fundraisers.

Went here with the mister and a group of friends last Friday for some fun before school starts. This was my first time back here since 10th grade in high school. I enjoy this place better than Scandia as they also have the grand prix, unfortunately I don't have a license so I can't drive in it.

Anyway, it's got your usual arcade games, golf course and racing games. Great for a group or when you just need to go somewhere to kill time without killing your wallet too severely. The food isn't so great so just remember to eat somewhere else.

The other half of Malibu Grand Prix.

This side of the park has mini golf, batting cages, and bumper boats.  Malibu Grand Prix has packages that are all inclusive, meaning you pay one price and can use their go karts/arcade area and their bumper boats/mini golf.

The mini golf is average, it's not as bad as some of the courses I've seen yet it's not elaborate or "pretty" either.  I believe there's something like 6 courses.

I went on the bumper boats with my boyfriend, two 20-something year olds bumping and splashing with a bunch of 10 year olds.  The stupid little kids ganged up on me!!  After they had sufficiently soaked me, and after my boyfriend laughed at me, I rallied them up and we got my boyfriend.  I knew I didn't waste a summer being a camp counselor for nothing: I learned how to talk to kids to get them to do what I want.

When our original plan was foiled by an unexpected closure (see review for Karts N Golf), we made a turnaround to Malibu.

After a struggling start at miniature golf, my game just went downhill. The conclusion? I have no grace. My tapping on the ball = flyng out of the course. At midgame, I used every last ounce of my willpower to resist the temptation of driving my stupid neon pink ball at the cars on the freeway.

The highlight of the game? That one particular hole with the big swinging tube over the it. A family with a young girl and toddler was behind us. After going pass the swingtube hole, we turned around to observe the family because we knew what was coming. The toddler ran towards the hole and the tube smacks right into him. EEEEK! poor baby. Then we looked at each other and laughed. But it was ok to because the dad was laughing too. =P

Oh gawd, there were so many kids at the arcade! After one round of skeeball, I had enough. The girl behind the prize counter took pity on our 14 tickets and round it up to 15 so we can get 2 prizes. So nice of her. But I want a refund on my faulty nonfunctional kazoo!! And he wants a refund on his too-small, chemical-smelling vampire teeth!!

PS. Don't get their "large" fries, McD's dollar fries are bigger than theirs. What a ripoff!!

PPS. The go-karts are lame. But that's another story.

Anyone that knows my boyfriend Eugy will know that he's just not athletic.  Poor guy. He's got this awkward little manboy body that he just can't move around in very well. So no baseball or football or even cheerleading for him. Nope. Luckily he has good timing and is the master of useless knowledge.

So we played hookie for the day. Had a great lunch down in Santa Clara with Seong and Lori (hey ladies!!!) and then stopped by Cafe Aroma for some coffee bingsoo. We still had 2 hours to kill. What should we do? ARCADE!!!!

Arrived around 2pm. Seriously, that's the best time to come to this place. Weekday before 3pm. No kids in here at all. We were the only people inside other than the employees. We could play whatever we wanted!!!! Of course, I want to play the games that give out tickets!

We found this one game, I forgot the name. But think of a wheel-of-fortune wheel with holes in each triangle piece. From above a ball drops down. So you let the wheel go around and around and  you hit the button to drop the ball to try and make it go into the holes with large numbers. There are numbers like 4, 10, 70, 100, 250 and then Jackpot. The hole for the jackpot is just big enough to fit the ball. So basically, you have to drop it dead center. 1mm off and it'll just bounce right out.

So I go up first. Boom! 60! We both laugh and give high fives. Wow. That was so easy! Second shot. 250!!! WHOA!!!!!

It's Eugy's turn. I'm thinking, boy can't even get a basketball in the hoop. No way he'll get a ball through a tiny hole. *insert gay, buttsex, balls jokes here please*

He presses the button to drop the ball.
Woooooooooosh~
JACKPOT!!!!!!! 486 tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me: WTF! HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!
Eugy: It's all about timing baby!

Would you believe, he did it a second time? That's right folks. My lovely boyfriend may have a manboy body that can't dribble, bat or do a jumping somersault, but he sure can get balls in holes. And I love him for it! He made us 1,800 tickets!!!!!!!!!!

With that, we purchased a pretzel (yeah, they let you buy food with tickets) and a spongebob white eraseboard to go over our new desk. We gave the remaining 400 or so tickets to a lucky little boy who probably had no idea how to even win tickets.

Just call us the ticket fairies. :)

Love you Eugy.

I still feel like a little kid, at least compared to the real little kids.
You always wonder... how can a BIG kid like me wins so few tickets and all the little kids wins loads of tickets?

Anyway, my friends and I headed towards the batting cages, as usual.
Took a break from batting, played some air hockey... blew some cash on the Stacker game, which by the way, IS RIGGED!  (As stated by Wikipedia... Winning is based on a certain of times the game is played.) Feeling suckered, it was back to the batting cages for us.

So to sum up, we spent some money, got suckered by a computer game we'd never win, traded in our 15 tickets for a Chinese finger trap.  Wow... good times!

I just visited Malibu for the first time in several years... this time with my four year old at his friend's birthday party.  Good times had by all.

Mini golf truly is one of those games for all ages.  Sure this place is a bit run down, but then I think that's a consistent point of charm at most mini golf courses and it doesn't much change the fun.  The four year old set mostly play the game like hockey, so that's entertaining in itself.

I don't particularly like arcades, and I find this one more crowded and loud than most.

Malibu gets extra points for the pizza quality though: I would have expected frozen style given their captive audience, but the pizza was solidly middle-of-the-road... say something in the Round Table league.

A big group of us had a party at the Castle next door, but got a great package that included tables, tokens, golf AND the cars!

We decided after pizza and chatting that we would head right out to play miniature golf.  We got in line, which takes maybe 10-15 minutes to get through on a Saturday afternoon, and we finally get to the front only to be told that they are out of clubs!  What?!?  This is a miniature golf center and they're out of clubs?!?

Well, we decided to be good sports about it, but it definitely puts us in a bit of a cranky mood.  But, since we are going next door to Grand Prix, we head over there to have fun driving the tracks.  See this review to see why we got even more cranky... http://www.yelp.com/bi...

But, after the cars we went back and since the sun was about to go down we decided to head to the bumper boats, because in theory we didn't want to get completely soaked after dark.  Yeah, that didn't work out.  2 of my guy friends decided I was the perfect target and seriously soaked me and when the sun was finally down I was seriously drenched, still.  Oh, and note to self, do not wear a skirt to miniature golf (I didn't know we were going to do bumper boats) and make sure to wear waterproof mascara so you don't wind up looking like a soaked raccoon.

So, we finally got around to playing miniature golf, and we were able to get clubs this time, but they didn't have enough for adults, so we had about half clubs for kids.  Admittedly, some of us ladies are short, but c'mon, we're not 3 feet tall!

After golf we realized that most of us never got around to using our tokens, so we went in and spent a bit of time playing games.  But, the best part was air hockey.  My friends challenging each other and one guy who declared that if he won he got a kiss from one of the girls in our group.  She said no way, he said yes.  So, he insisted she play him, and if he won he got a kiss.  She beat the cr*p out of him, it was too funny!!

Overall, it was a fun day, but that was due to the fun and crazy company rather than the crowded, under-staffed and under-supplied Malibu.

Ok, so this place really is made for kids, not adults.  This is no Dave & Busters, it is a family friendly place.  That didn't stop us from having fun though!

A big group of us got together to reconnect with our inner child.  We had a "party", which meant we did the whole thing": pizza, mini golf, go carts etc.

The pizza wasn't that great, but it's not like you are going to Malibu to eat.  As far as pizza goes, it was decent.  I'm sure kids will love it.

Mini golf was so much fun.  The holes get a bit repetitive, but the greens seemed to be very well maintained.  It took us a long time to play however.  When we first tried to play they were out of clubs.  Totally.  I know the place gets busy, but it didn't look like THAT many people were golfing.

Go carting was hella fun, but the lines are recockulous.  We waited over an hour to get our hands stamped and then into another line to actually drive.  I hear the kiddie cars have an even worse wait.   You've been warned!  Be prepared to stand in line like you are in England.

With our party we got tons of tokens, which were used to play countless games.  They have a ticket machine that automatically counts your tickets and gives you a receipt you can turn in for the prizes.  Way easier than when I was a kid and you had to hand count them.  One, by one, by one.........

All in all, it's still a  fun day.  More suitable for the kiddies, but its a place parents can have fun at as well.

For $17 you get unlimited mini-golf, bumper boats, and video games.  They get you with the games though cuz you only get to play the ones that doesn't give you tickets and the ones that you could play, people are ALWAYS on it and doesn't want to leave.

Bumper boats were fun, if you were with a large enough group to have the whole thing to yourself. Getting shot at by little 3-5 year old aren't very nice because they go all out and want to get wet. Golfing is fun but you never really do that one time after another. You go one round and get tired. Well, at least I do. And like I said, people stay on the video games FOREVER!

Food? The pizza actually didn't look bad but maybe that was because I was STARVING  my ass off! The chili cheese fries is what I shared with the BF and there was no beef to be found, only beans. ($3.95 +tax)

**I don't know if I should let you guys know this but since I love Yelp, I just have to give you guys a tip. You don't have to pay for the video games (no ticket giving ones) because all you do is press the start button on the games and it starts. Just make sure no workers are checking!**

Great place for a few hours of fun.. especially if you have kids. Most of their arcade games are busted in one way or another, but if you do their arcade, it's really for the ticket games where a thousand tickets isn't a hard goal. The prizes aren't great, but there is a sense of satisfaction and excitement when you get the jackpot on that giant ball game.. or deal or no deal.

I didn't eat there, and looking at the prices, I would NEVER eat there. I just drank water from the fountain. The bumper boats was okay, but with only 5 minutes it went by pretty quickly. Mini-golf is okay, but it wears on you especially in the hot hot sun.

Overall, okay. Take your kids there for a day if you don't want to travel all the way to D&B if you're coming from the peninsula. Otherwise, go to D&B!

Another suggestion, wake your kids, go to eat at Denny's, then go here, and then find something else to do. They'll be too tired to bother you at the end of the afternoon.

When I was a kid, Malibu Castle was the self-contained mecca of all that was holy. When I was in my 20's, Malibu was the perfect place to get wasted and play as much mini golf as we could until we got kicked out or too drunk, whichever came first. Sure, we knew the mini-golf courses at Malibu are cookie-cutter and uninspired, but they were cheap, plentiful, and mostly unsupervised.

Now that I'm in my late 30's it's a blast to turn Little Q on to a game that I've played most of my life. He drained a hole in one on his second hole ever. Took the club back like a hockey player at the blue line, banked one off of the left wall, straight in. He had a blast, as did Mama Q & I.

But it's hard not to notice how run down this particular Malibu is. The hole with the little house on it was eating everyone's balls, and they didn't have a maintenance worker on duty to fix it; on Sunday, arguably the busiest day of the week. The bathrooms are skanky, the arcade focused primarily on some tokens for tickets pyramid scheme, and the layout of the interior of the castle is so poor that it's hard to make your way to the bathroom (which is skanky).

Still, mini golf is mini golf. Regardless of how cookie cutter the courses may be, the magic of seeing my son go running down the little blue astroturf green with his hands in the air is pretty damn priceless.

I really like how you can see this place off from 101 freeway.  While I was playing golf, I felt so tempted to just throw my golf ball out to the freeway and just see what would happen.   Bad Girl!

We played mini golf, it wasn't the best course, compared to Golfland.  But it was fun to just be out side playing.  The batting cages are really cool, my boyfriend first had a lame ass pitcher, it was broken, but it sure took our tokens.  Then I got some more tokens and he had a blast hitting the balls.

The castle arcade is whack!  So many people in there you can't even walk around.  The other arcade next to the carts were so tame compared to the castle.  Next time I go there I'll do the water bumper cars and the go carts.

Malibu has gone downhill over the years. Mini golf is below average. Most of the holes consist of twist or turns. Noticeable lack of obstacles, hills, gutters, or fun stuff that you would find in a good mini golf course. It's about as much fun as putting in someone's parking lot or on a worn down carpet.

Bumper boats are a new addition but ride duration is far too short for the money. This is probably the only place on the property that doesn't smell like vomit.

Arcade is average but it always smells like vomit in there, particularly near the entrance and bathrooms. Their ticket redemption system is very archaic and slow and most of the time, obtaining those cheapo prizes is more trouble than it is worth.   Although its not their fault, the games lack that "wow" factor because people have better games on their own home consoles.

Party rooms are kind of a rip off because you have to purchase their party package and eat their food. The party rooms also smell like vomit or you have the option of getting a table adjacent to the arcade.

me , my boyfriend , his cousin & a friend went here last night. one star for the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! okay , i know that this place overall has many  16 year old's working here but thats not an excuse for anything. you are working and should be mature enough to take your job seriously no matter what you are doing.  seriously do you really think its appropriate to yell at someone walking by about what he's wearing while you're helping a customer? and to continue to have a useless conversation about what happened to you last night or some other crap. other than the stupid 16 yr olds that work , this place isnt that bad if you're looking for something cheap to do.

i'm keeping this 1 star until they step up their game on customer service.

The bumper boats are cool on a hot day, suitable for "kids" of all ages.  The mini racecars are a blast but very expensive.  Miniature golf is, well, miniature golf.  There is also a batting-cage.  The great thing about this place is that they have so much to do.  The food is disgusting and arcade packed full of kids and beat-up old games.  But no need to complain...If you don' t like one area, go to another.  Something for the whole family here.  Wednesday is "family night" and young kids are free for miniature golf.  So you can definitely do this place on a budget if you try...or you could spend $50 in 30 minutes on the track.

How do you entertain 3 people for less than $20 on a lazy weekend afternoon? Go to Malibu.

Stars lost for crowds and dated/broken facilities and games.

Witness the devastation that I unleashed.  It was like Tiger at the British Open, I was throwin' up signs and s***.  By the way if you were playing behind us I apologize for my swearing on the course.  I know miniature golf is a family sport and all but sometimes I just get carried away...OOOOHHH YEA.

Note that Steve finished last, Tanya beat him.  HAHAHAHAHAHAH he lost to a girl.

After our round, we went and threw some skee ball.  I had enough after a couple games and shot some video game dudes in Time Crisis.  I think I killed about 100 people in one game.  For safety's sake let's all hope that I never go insane...

My wife kept playing and ended up with 85 tickets.  I suggested that she give them to one of the poor little kids saving tickets for the squirt gun but instead she selfishly used them on a super ball.  What a bitch.

In any case, if you're drunk I recommend checking this place out.  You can set up some creative shots if you bring your own pitching wedge and some extra balls.

My boyfriend and I have been raging about going mini-golfing for a while now and FINALLY mustered up the funds and will to drive almost 30 minutes away for some old school fun.

I've been to several Malibu Grand Prix's down in SoCal back in the day, but this was my first visit to any of their NorCal locations. Pretty much the same as the others and it appears that nothing has really changed, with maybe the exception of a few more modern arcade games like Dance Dance Revolution or House of Dead IV. My favorite game, which was also only 2 tokens per game.. AREA 51.

Old and New arcade games, junk food, tokens/tickets/prizes, birthday parties, batting cages, bumper boats, race cars.. all the typical things you would see at a "family fun center" are here. Some things appear on the janky side, but what do you expect from a place that's been around, probably close to 20 years or +

$7.99 per adult for mini-golf ain't bad at all. I'll definitely be back when the need for mini-golf arises.

It's run down, it's dirty, everything is sticky, one of the holes on course 1 for the mini golf just ate everyone's golf balls and rather than having someone actually come out and retrieve our balls and check out the problem, they told us to just throw our balls into the hole and move on.

the other time i came, i discovered my distaste for mini-golf (and also how much I suck at it). however, this time i was in good company and the weather was gorgeous so I gave it another shot.

it's still run down, dirty, and sticky. some of the things on the courses need fixing. Come on, FIX IT!

The bathrooms here are always crowded and super dirty. If you're willing, walk over to where the karts are use the restroom there. it's still grimy and dirty but not as dirty. it also smells pretty bad.

Sani is an early bird. Early bird Mini golf, $3.50! Feeling cheap? Use one golf club for 5 broke compadres, save a buck or twelve! Free parking for your hoopties! $4.00 per lap on Grand Prix! $1.25 for 10 Barry Bonds swings at yellow mellow Barry Zito pitch. Impress your lady with fierce swings, butt wooing and attempting to take pitch to chest (Not recommended). Free arcade tickets found on floor deserted by peanut sized young ones, pick em up as if $100 bill! Get a prize, 3 rubber duckies and a tootsie roll! Whoaaaa.
That's how you spend a Sunday.

Hmmm, not sure what the other reviewers are complaining about here...The husband and I went here tonight just to try something new.  We decided NOT to go out with the crazy party friends and just have a fun night playing mini golf and then relaxing at home.

We've recently moved out of SF to a spot just south of the city on the Peninsula.  Now, I spent the better part of a decade living in (and loving) Berkeley and I spent three years living in (and NOT loving) SF.  I love the new place, it's sunny and we have a big ol' deck with tons of plants and when I look out my windows I see greenery, not other buildings.

I haven't spent much time on the Peninsula until, well, tonight.  Once, a couple of years ago, we drove all the way to Fairfield to go to Scandia!  And this Malibu place in Redwood City is way better, and only twenty minutes away!!!  They have mini golf, batting cages, a pretty big arcade complete with AIR HOCKEY, and bumper boats (picture bumper cars in a pond.  Without the wheels).  And right down the street is the Malibu Speedway with Go-Karts.

We played mini golf; it was totally fun and we agreed to come back sometime to go on the bumper boats (too cold at night--people spraying each other with the water squirter things!)  and maybe do the Go-Karts too.  Also, air hockey is always in order.  We've been known to brave Fisherman's Wharf and even go to the Emeryville Public Market to get our air hockey on.  It's the only game I can beat my husband at.

Oh, and the bathrooms were clean here too.

Decided to have a "father/son" day one weekday in May and surprised him by taking him here.  Bit overcast, but we were going to have fun regardless.  Bought two of their daily specials that included golf, boat ride and unlimited play on the non-ticket games:

First tip: kids can make it through one 9-hole course, but they start to lose it after the 4th hole on the second course.  LOL!  Keep the ball rolling!!!

Second tip - have a spare jacket in the car.  The boat rides were fun actually.  Motorized circular boat with a trigger to fire a water gun.  Kept getting soaked by a brother and sister in separate boats (and it was cold).  My son was shorter, so he hardly got hit.  Brrrrrr.

Third tip - if you have really good "hand/eye" coordination, play "Solar Spin".  The prize tickets that come out are either food or some free game at the location.  I won us lunch (pizza and large soda) and free driver's license to run laps.

Food is OK, but since there's nothing else nearby to walk to, it will do when you are hungry.  You can actually cash in tickets for food, which is good when you or your child is really good at ticket games.

The redemption center has cheesy prizes (unless you're ready to fork up some extra cash and you are really good at ticket games).

Had a blast while driving laps, but needed to stop after the third lap because my son was getting tired.

If you don't want to travel all the way to Milpitas to Dave & Busters, then this place will do in a pinch when you don't know what to do with the kids.

Tip 4 - bring a cooler with food and drinks if you don't want to pay their food prices.

Customer service was OK.  They seemed overwhelmed at times.  The girl in charge of the boat ride had the best attitude in my opinion.

Ahhhhh reminds me of being a kid.  I've been looking forward to a field trip here for sometime.  With that being said if your on semi broke status 20 bucks will get you 18 holes of pure bliss.  There are 3 mini courses to choose from but choose wisely.

malibu Castle has everything you need from batting cages, bumper boats, to go karts.  The only negative thing that I can say about this place is there video game selection.

One - its to expensive to play.
Two - they have a limited selection to choose from

The snack bar is poppin with all the junk food you love. Cheery Icee's, pretzels, nachos, popcorn oh my.  Yes you to can enjoy the feeling of the shits brewing up

PEACE

I had my daughter's bday party here 2 years in a row. It's cheap and the younger kids (10 and younger) love it. I've also seen couples go here on dates.

From what I saw, there are 2 separate mini golf courses. I don't remember seeing the pirate ship that another Yelper mentioned so I must have been on the other golf course. Yes the holes are repetitive. I don't think it matters to the younger kids.

The bumper boats look fun but I don't think I want to get wet with the reused water. I was watching one boy who had the "evilest" look on his face as he was getting ready to squirt someone. *shudders*

The basic party package:

You get an hour table time with a hostess.

Each kid gets 2 slices of pizza

Unlimited soda

Party hats

One round of mini golf (FYI: they won't know how many rounds you play)

I really hate waiting to play behind someone. They take forever. Just a tip for those rude and inconsiderate players waiting to play.... make sure the person in front of you is done playing that hole BEFORE you start hitting your ball.

A bunch of tokens

A lot of the higher prizes is a rip off. You're better off buying it in a store.

They've raised their ticket requirement for their prizes from the previous year that I went there.

Depending on the employee, if you're off by a few tickets for a prize you want, they'll let you redeem it still .....if you ask NICELY.

The food there looks ok. I've only tried their pizza and it is good. Their icees are pretty good too.

I'm not going to have my daughter's bday there again since I think the kids were a lil' bored of the place this past year.

I wish there were more kid oriented places in the Bay Area.
