Review from Tracy G.
Los Angeles, CA
So, I now am no longer a facial virgin and all because of the Bridal Expo a couple of weekends ago. I went to get information on reception locations and ended up winning a facial from Malana.
On Saturday, I went to have what turned out to be an awesome relaxing experience. I was nervous, because I have sensitive skin -- just moving my hair off my face can leave a mark for approximately 30 minutes -- so I was concerned that I would look like I had major sun burn when I left their office. That concern was a waste of my time, because they were so gentle with me there was no sign (besides very soft skin) of my visit.
I didn't feel like I was being hard sold on any products or other services. She told me that I needed to use sunscreen and take care of my skin. (I have a very low-maintenance skin regimen - clean face, and well, that is it.) But, then its not the first time I have heard that.
I felt very welcome here, they treat you like a friend that is coming over for a visit instead of a new face.
(It only gets 4 stars, because I have nothing to compare my experience to. When I have that experience, I do assume that the fifth star will be added to this review.)Listed in: Nuptial Bliss

Review from Cahaya S.
Playa del Rey, CA
I tried this place out, as it isn't too far from where I live and I received a coupon in the mail.....not really great reasons to try a place I suppose.....but I didn't have much to go by , being new to the area...
I give the place 1 star for the friendly, personable young woman behind the reception desk.
But that said -- the rest of my experience there -- left much to be desired. I went it for my first attempt at laser hair removal -- after years of waxing, threading, electrolysis and tweezing -- nothing seemed to work....so LA culture and living was beckoning to me as tempting me with an offer of a solution more permanent.
So I enter this medical building one weekend. It's just about deserted.
I walk along the dark hallways and come to the suite where this place is located.
I just remember thinking to myself -- oh no -- it's so dark in here! and where are all the people :(. The building itself I think just has this heavy depressed feeling to it -- not great feng shui... but that said....it's not the fault of the Spa tho --- but it did effect my perception of the place.
Well, given it was my first time having this treatment -- I came in with a few questions and some level of nervousness. The doctor however, a nice enough man I suppose -- seemed awfully introverted or shy or something. He was certainly a man of few words! And not terribly descriptive or able to answer my questions about after treatment care -- except to refer me to apply aloe to the area....
Well in retrospect, the treatment itself was probably not great. As it was my first -- I didn't have anything to compare against. But now - having gone elsewhere for subsequent treatments -- it makes this one look somewhat archaic. The technology seems a little clumsy and the treatment itself messier, with the globs of goopy stuff that they had to apply before lasering. When the laser flash went off, I could see the red light flashing, through my closed eyelids, even tho I had some kind of eye protector covering my eyelids...scary....hopefully not harmful :(. The zapping itself stung a bit and there was a burning, raw sensation after. Also my skin got burnt in an area that was hairless - where the laser wand probably accidentally streaked. I had peeling skin the next day, some light scabbing in some small areas. Which the paperwork warned might happen.
And when I called the doctor to ask him if I should be concerned -- he just said it was normal. And when I asked him if I should apply anything to it -- he said any over the counter topical ointment for burns would do....or aloe gel.
It just wasn't very reassuring and I was hoping for something more reassuring, I guess.
I decided to go elsewhere after -- and was surprised at how completely different my treatment was, with no pain, burning nor scabbing as an after effect. Also the place I went to recommended a pre and post-treatment regimen, and did a careful assessment of the facial cleaning products I was using to make sure there would be no adverse reaction. And in fact sent me home to reschedule after learning about a particular lotion I was using daily that I needed to be off of before starting laser treatment.
For their sake -- I hope that they are able to provide better service over the long run -- maybe they were new or inexperienced...
But i can't imagine them being able to retain clients, with the rather lacking bedside manner....
so....me thinks not :(
