I came to Chris with a couple friends and we were there for three and a half hours! Chris is great and fun! He answered all of our questions and showed us how to do our make-up all differently depending on what we each wanted to learn.
We all looked AWESOME plus all the fun we had, chatting and laughing the whole time.
I am gonna treat and bring my best friend to see Chris for her birthday! -

Chris Scott is a makeup mastermind. Not only does he have the talent, knowledge and his own product line, he has the ability to teach it effectively to anyone who listens! As a makeup artist myself, I've worked with Chris and I can say he is a class act all the way. Cheers!

Chris does do a fabulous job with make up but buyers beware.
I went with a friend for her trial today for her wedding make up. Chris did an amazing job with the make up and when it came time to pay Chris doubled the quoted price for her wedding in Sonoma.
He claimed that he never knew the wedding was in Sonoma (which he did), he somehow came up with new prices for weddings in Sonoma and quoted his website which he had launched yesterday (we contacted him 3 weeks ago), and refused to budge on the price.
He made my friend, almost in tears, pay the $80 for her trial even though we all knew she could not have him at her wedding. He even suggested that she recruit friends to have their make-up done by him so that the price would decrease for her!
I would give Chris 1 star but his decency some how reappeared when my friend had to go back to pick up her personal lipstick that she left behind and he tore up the $80 charge card slip.
So brides if you are thinking of using Chris make sure to confirm the price in writing before you schedule your trial. -

Chris made makeup fun! I'm a little challenged when it comes to cosmetics but a friend suggested that I get a professional makeover so I can see the benefits. Chris was so engaging and encouraging. He helped me to understand all the techniques that he was using and the what fors and the whys of different colors. He's amazing. And FUNNY!!! You would be hard pressed not to enjoy your time with this one of a kind gem.
Do yourself a favor and go see him today! -

Add me to the list of fans of Chris's work!
I bought a deal on Living Social to see him. He was very courteous on the phone and accommodated my schedule and I was able to get in to see him quickly.
I had booked an hour session with him but he spent over an hour with me. He took the time to explain everything he was doing in terms of colors and techniques, checked in with me to make sure I liked the colors he was using, and gave me lots of great tips on how to recreate the look at home! I felt like I should be writing everything down! He has a great special on right now - $50 for $100 worth of product or service. And his products are reasonably priced to begin with!
I would definitely recommend Chris and plan on going back to see him again. -

It was my friend's birthday. I had no birthday gift.
"No wonder I don't have any friends" I mused as I browsed through yelp for gift ideas.
Dinner? Too simple. A book? Too boring. Many & Pedi? Too trite.
A makeup lesson? Hmmm... interesting... but all these makeup artists are so damn expensive and all they offer is lessons in doing wedding makeup. Nothankyou.
Chris from Makeup Gourmet to the rescue! Chris reserved us a private room in Nordstrom where he taught us how to wear our own makeup. He was fun, funny, knowledgeable, and made me realize that there are better alternatives to smearing eyeshadow on my lids with my bare fingers.
Chris went through our makeup and pointed out things we were missing or things that didn't complement our complexion. He recommended new colors, showed new application techniques, and let me try a myriad of goodies form his own make up suitcase. Yes, I did just write suitcase. He brought a suitcase of makeup with him. It was like playing with my mom's makeup only he didn't yell at me afterwards!
All in all, an awesome experience and according to my friend the best birthday gift ever. -

This was the most fun I've ever had applying makeup-ever! I purchased a Living Social voucher to to the Makeup Gourmet for myself and a friend. It was a really enjoyable afternoon.
Chris gave us a couple of options on how to do the session since there were two of us. He's extremely warm, engaging, and really knows his stuff. He pointed out things I had never noticed and was always fun and complimentary as he went to work. His style is really to teach you to apply makeup yourself and I've been able to replicate most of what he taught us at home. If you want an educational and fun afternoon to learn more about your face-go to Chris! -

Chris rocks!!! I've always been fairly makeup illiterate, despite watching plenty of youtube videos, reading the Kevyn Aucoin books and spending entirely too much time (and money!) with mostly less-than-stellar makeup artists at the department store makeup counters. But after a 2 hour hands-on lesson with Chris, I actually walked away with more useful information than all my previous adventures in cosmetic-land combined and learned techniques that I can actually repeat at home! Yay! I'll be scheduling another lesson with him soon.

Wow! I just finished my 2-hour makeup application lesson and I couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the Makeup Gourmet. Chris was so knowledgeable, kind and patient. He kept encouraging me and complimenting my efforts so I felt so comfortable. He had so many ideas and was so generous with his time and expertise. I really couldn't recommend him more highly. Go soon! You'll have so much fun and get so much from the experience.

I booked a private lesson with Scott, it's worth every penny! He made me feel super comfortable the whole time. I am not very good with applying makeup on myself and if it's a special occasion I will always go to MAC to get my eyes done, so I bought all their products but don't know how to use them.
So I did my daily makeup routine and Scott corrected me for the things I have been doing wrong for years and also gave some tips that are really useful. I wish I had come to see him earlier. -

I don't wear make-up. I just don't. But, on the rare occasion that I must "put on a face", Chris Scott is the only make-up artist I trust. Sure, he's fantastic for weddings, big bold events, etc., but he's also great at working with someone like me, who wants to keep it subtle and merely enhance my "natural beauty" . He's got years of experience and inherent talent and he loves what he does, so he makes the experience fun.

Chris did the makeup for my wedding earlier this month for me and most of my bridesmaids. He's wonderful, professional, funny, super easy to work with and did a great job.
I'm not a makeup girl, and hate looking and feeling overdone. i get that i need to look "beautiful" for my wedding, but i still need to look like me and feel comfortable. he managed to do exactly that. i felt and looked like me but just better (and definitely better for pictures).
I met him for a trial at Nordstroms a few weeks before the wedding.
he obviously knew what he was doing, but was really receptive to my questions and concerns. i felt like he really took his time working with me to figure out what kind of look i'd have on the actual wedding day. i also love that he didn't push a bunch of expensive makeup for me to buy. he answered a lot of questions and taught me a bunch about doing makeup while he was at it.. (i can see how a class with him would be fun and really helpful)
on the day of, 4 of my bridesmaids and i had our makeup done. none of us wear makeup comfortably or regularly. he was the perfect person to have around the morning of a wedding.. he calmed us down, made us laugh and was super professional and did a wonderful job.
the biggest testament might come from my mom. my mom absolutely refused to have her makeup done when i first asked. then, when she saw him do the rest of us, she asked if she could be fit in. he fit her in (which was awesome) and she loved how she looked. she actually let us take close up pictures of her for the wedding.
so yeah. i'd definitely recommend him to anyone getting married or made up for any reason.. especially those of who aren't used to being all primped up. he's amazing at making us comfortable. -

I am adding another great review for Chris. Since he came highly recommended on Yelp I thought it would be fun to try a make-up lesson with him. The lesson far exceeded my expectations. I loved the look he created for me - it looks great and is doable for a low-maintenance type girl as myself. I love the colors he picked for me and I also like his make-up line a lot. He did not even try to sell me any products. I just brought it up myself. I think it's okay if he does bring up the products with clients though because they are of great quality in my opinion! I love the lipstick - it is really moisturizing and and also stays on nicely as it stains. The Jojoba oil foundation is great too and looks really natural. I really hope to see this make-up line make it to the cosmetic counter in department stores. Chris as a person is just super cool and he has a great sense of humor and is very gracious. I ended up leaving my makeup color chart in his studio and asked him if he could send it to me in the mail and he did so promptly. I thought it was very nice of him to do that! I highly recommend Chris for any makeup service that he offers.

Chris and his group of amazing staff hosted a make-up party for mothers, complete with a hairstylist, mimosas, and snacks. If you are a mother, you know the challenges of taking care of yourself let alone having someone dote on you. It's rare. We all came in bedraggled and bleary eyed with big frizzy heads, not knowing what to expect. We were absolutely taken care of from our make-up to our hair to our spirits! Quite honestly, it's the best time I've had with other moms since I had my son three and half years ago. Chris and his staff were warm, compassionate, smart, funny, and engaging. Not to mention beautiful. When I left there, my make-up looked gorgeous and my hair was sexy. I learned some easy make-up and hair tricks to do at home to pull my self together, and I felt great! I'm still thinking about that day and how much fun I had! I highly recommend The Makeup Gourmet!

Chris is amazing. I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding last summer, and had Chris do my, and another maid's, makeup. He was so cool, knowledgeable, flexible and professional. My friend and I looked fantastic! He was totally open to discussing different looks with us, incorporating our ideas while exercising his expertise. I highly recommend him. His pricing is pretty reasonable, and I'd absolutely use him again....even at my own wedding.

Chris is a wonderful make-up artist and teacher. I've worked with him twice so far. I booked a private lesson to learn how to do a professional look for on-camera auditions (he let me know that mineral make-up is an absolute no-no - other actresses beware and learn from my mistake!) I was so impressed by his level of knowledge about technique and current trends and his professionalism that I booked another private lesson as a X-mas gift for myself and two girlfriends. We all had a fabulous time learning to do a smoky eye!
All I need now is another excuse to get made up and work with Chris again! -

Another well deserved rave review for Chris! I found him on yelp after a trial with another makeup artist, that well, did an alright job but it wasn't really me - too much makeup, insisted on a lip color that was all wrong, etc. Luckily, Chris was available on my wedding date and we did a trial. He was very easy to reach and flexible in days/times/locations to meet up. Most importantly, Chris did my makeup *perfectly*. I received compliments from total strangers and even my future mother in law later that night at dinner! I am pretty picky when it comes to makeup, although you wouldn't know it from looking at me now but I used to be quite the makeup junkie in my teens and 20's....
Chris is a complete sweetie, very easy to talk to - totally puts you at ease and he is so talented. He gives great advice and makes you feel and look like a million bucks. I absolutely loved my makeup on my wedding day - I can not express that enough. Now I just need another reason to have Chris do my makeup again.... -

Chris is a MASTERFUL make-up artist and one of the classiest men I know. He did my makeup for my wedding (many years ago) and several other special events but also mentored me for my daytime corporate look. He's very intuitive and doesn't just "do" your makeup but teaches you so that you'll be able to replicate it yourself. He knows the latest trends and products but brings a very realistic approach to the application. I love the brushes available through his web site! If you can't watch his show on cable, you can catch some episodes on YouTube and see what I mean.

Chris Scott is amazing! I learned more from him than any other professional makeup artist I've worked with. I met Chris at a Chanel event months before my wedding and he did my makeup in a very classic, natural, tasteful palette. I'd already seen 3+ other artists in weeks prior and they globbed me up with hideous, overdone makeup (dramatic would be an understatement -- I felt like a circus clown). It was so refreshing to work with him and learn the basics and some new tricks. Unfortunately it wasn't realistic to have Chris do my wedding day makeup, but I used all the products + colors he recommended. It's been three years, but have as much respect and admiration for him as I did that day. I owe my wedding day photos to him. One of my friends, I just learned, had him do her wedding day makeup and is now working on a project with him. I hope I get a chance to work with Chris again and learn more.

Chris Scott is an amazingly talented makeup artist. I am person that doesn't wear makeup on a regular basis. I was clueless on applying makeup for special events or even a fun evening out with friends, until Chris had educated me on applying makeup. With wanting a more natural look, Chris showed me how to enhance my features without looking overly made up. He pays attention to preferences & details needed to achieve a desired look. Chris has a great understanding of color & skin tone. He is so fun to interface with; love his sense of humor, knowledge, explanations & analogies (which has helped me remember the techniques important to my style). I've known Chris for many years & always look forward to his helpful hints.

I had my wedding last weekend and Chris did make-up for my mom, my husband's mom, my sister and me. He did a fantastic job. Chris was early and scoped out a good place to do the make-up. He had everything set up for us, all we had to do was sit in this chair and wait for him to perform his magic. You can't go wrong with Chris, he is a pro at what he does and has a great personality.

The Make-up Gourmet aka Chris Scott is the most professional and artistic make-up person I have ever had the pleasure to work for/with. I am the owner of a high end salon in Union Square and we Only recommend him! No drama, strictly great style and reasonable prices..... He's awesome for weddings, photo shoots, or just to find a new look. Seriously a true artist and so down to earth. A must try!
