This place serves my favorite coffee in the world (from 7 Roasters here in Seattle). They sell the beans here, and I'm always happy to come by here and pick up a pound. I especially like their Ethiopian beans.
Their pastries are always delicious. I can't say this about many coffee places in Seattle.
The new owners also host some fun gatherings every once in awhile. This past winter they had an Indian themed night with tasty Indian pastries and chai. There was even a henna tattoo artist at the back.
Parking near here can be a little tough some mornings as Pete's Eggsnest is here as well and draws a lot of traffic.
Hands down the best coffee I've had in Seattle. Slow as turtles up a greased hill, as my grandfather would say, but I've driven out of my way (15 minutes out of my way) on occasion just to have their delicious drinks!
Lovely apricot peach tea and I adore Rose- she is such a sweetie! She offered to turn down the music while my friend and I were studying and let us hang around as she was closing up while we finished our problem set, etc. Such a doll and really made for a nice experience. Their squash bread and morning glory muffin are still my favorite pastry treats. Notably scrumptious is the parmesan dill scone if you like savory pastries.

I really enjoyed my drip coffee here. Nice and strong and zero acidity.... yum. I got the morning… Read more »
Cute space; the baristas are diffident, but they sure know how to pull a shot. (The superior 7 Roasters beanage doesn't hurt that process, oh no.) I've been here a few times with a book and a caffeine-deprivation headache and was able to enjoy one while dispelling the other. More than holds its own in a neighborhood with some extremely tough coffee competition.
I found the perfect son-in-law in here today. He's cute, intelligent, playful, polite and named Felipe. I just know my Lupita would love him.
As for the iced soy chai I ordered, that was perfect, too. Really. Not overly iced, and the chai had the right amount of spice, with a tad of sweetness.
I was going to just run in here for a take-out drink, but was stopped in my tracks right before I ordered. Is that a Ganesha statue in a red sari?! I looked around and saw colorful Indian scarves and wraps adorning the ceiling. I also noticed some interesting art on the walls. I just had to stay.
This is a small, quiet and lovely spot. I enjoyed my brief visit.
And don't think I didn't notice the pastries. I wasn't really hungry, but have to think that the bakery items are good, as they're reportedly from Macrina.
Staff was nice. Resident dog (Felipe) was nice. Dressed up Ganesha was nice. Chai was nice. Art was nice.
I can't wait to bring my pup in here to formally introduce her to Felipe.
My Labor day three day weekend tasting cappuccinos around town - Makeda by far is my favorite. Rich coffee, even decaf, great latte art. Pastries are yummy and normal sized. Drink even comes with a shot of aqua frizzante. I'm in love.
This is a tiny place, but the coffee is particularly good here. They also have savory scones. I wish more coffee shops had non-sweet baked goods. The benches outdoors are also a plus on a nice day. Otherwise, it's not really a place that's all that conducive to sitting for a long time.
This has been my weekly, or so, addiction.
I don't think they charge extra for soy which is super great. The shots are always spot on! These baristas know what they're doing.
Great chill place that is come-as-you-are, welcoming, and friendly. Kids are treated well by the baristas when they are ordering.
If I lived closer, I'd be in there everyday.
Ever since it opened as Seven, this has been our fav neighborhood coffee joint (and now that they serve beer/wine - a great evening spot - esp. when they have music).
Great local 'community' hangout - no one (hopefully!) comes in for a 'grab and go' coffee. This is a place to hang out, read (wifi) chat, relax. Very dog and kid friendly. Nice selection of Macrina baked goodies to complement some really well barista'ed coffee delights.
A hidden gem, this place has become my Friday morning treat. I drop off my girl at school then wander my way over. A cup of drip sometimes, a machiatto sometimes, a latte sometimes. Doesn't matter what it is it's going to be great.
It's small. The same people tend to be here and you get to know them. Unlike some cavernous coffee shops, discussion breaks out amongst regulars . (They'll leave you alone if you wish of course, or you can join in.)
This is a neighborhood joint, and they serve great coffee.
Makeda's coffee is, hands down, excellent. They're consistently great. The place is tiny, so just a few people can become a "crowd", but it doesn't feel too cramped, and if you can find a seat, there's plenty of entertaining people to watch. :)
Their prices are very reasonable for seattle coffee, and their baked goods are fresh and tasty.
They have excellent art on the wall, and host events in the evening, often Indian themed, with sweets and a live DJ and sometimes even a henna artist!
Formerly 7 roasters, this location will continue with selling seven coffee but with a new amazing owner.
Still 5 star coffee, just a new name.
The food at Wayward Cafe is nothing to write home about (note to self: review Wayward Cafe) but the coffee was incredible. That coffee was credited to Seven Coffee Roasters which is now Makeda.
A half pound of Ethiopia is organic, fair-trade, and absolutely delicious as stovetop espresso. Add the coffee to a soy latte and soy mocha and your total is $12. $12! I mean this in a good way. If caffeine didn't crack me out I would've ordered another soy latte before leaving the 'hood.
I have to take off one star on account of the pastry selection: in terms of vegan offerings, they were of the day-old variety. But I'll gladly swing by Mighty-O and bring my own vegan goodies to Makeda!
This fun little neighborhood shop is absolutely that--full of neighbors. The staff (and other patrons, even!) is friendly, the owner wonderful and the coffee really, really good.
It can get a little noisy at busy times, but that's because people are chatting, and not on their laptops--again, quintessential neighborhood coffee shop.
Great drip coffee! Love that it's made via french press (although I haven't been there lately so hopefully they still do). I love to go in the summer and sit out on the bench with my dog.
Having just moved to Seattle from the east coast, I knew one of the first things I'd have to do is get a good cup of coffee. Little did I know that I would have such a great experience at Makeda. Not only is the staff awesome but the decor inside made me feel relaxed and the pastries wereamazing.
As for the coffee...by far the best espresso macchiato I've ever had and amazing Sumatra that I took home for later. Speaking of which...i need to head back to get some more!
I came, I saw I kicked that affogato's ass!
Seriously, I only came here because of the Yelp reviews. I was pleased with my dessert/beverage, the very nice girl behind the counter and the comfortable small coffee shop atmosphere. This location is not convenient, so I doubt I'll be here very often, but when I get that affogato craving this will be the first place I go.
Hidden away on Phinney Ridge, Makeda is a neighborhood coffeehouse that offers awesome drinks and decent beans by 7 Coffee Roasters. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Food is limited, hints the name coffeehouse and not bakery, but none the less decent.
Great new local coffee shop. I tried the iced coffee today because it was hot out. The (iced) drip was great. If you're more interested in sweets than coffee, they carry Molly Moon's ice cream! If you can't decide you're in luck because they have affogato's (ice cream plus espresso) and although I did not personally sample the affogato my roommate swears her Molly Moon affogato was amazing!
Rich velvety espresso coupled with rich velvety ice cream. A winning combination. Have yet to visit the actual Molly Moon shop. Can't wait.
New owners taking over what was 7 Roasters. Still using coffees from 7 Roasters (which now focuses on roasting and wholesale). Espresso shots are pulled just right and milk steamed velvety every single time. Reading the older reviews, didn't know they sell Molly Moon ice cream. Will get that next time. The cafe is very dog friendly. If you bring your pooch there, ask for the frozen yogurt dog treat!
