This is the short review because it is a "general area", but the food court is very large.  There are hundreds of tables for you to sit at, but if you go during busy peak times, it may take a while for you to find a place.

As far as selection, you got it all.  There's Japanese, Chinese, American, Sandwiches, Pasta, Hawaiian, Pizza, and it goes on and on.

Bathrooms are at one end of the food court and it never seems to be a long line.  The workers also keep the floor and tables clean, and the trash is emptied out frequently so it doesnt overpile!

Talk about an appetite killer.  It was around 7:30ish after we got Blizzards from Dairy Queen we were looking for dinner so we entered the food court.

Because I was hungry and it was to the point that I just couldn't make up my mind and nothing was speaking to me, we ended up walking from vendor to vendor looking at what they had to offer.  Making half way through we were near the Chinese food vendor when I noticed an army of men wearing BRIGHT orange tshirts walking from the restroom area into the food court.  I continued to look at them because they really stood out................ as they passed me I read the words on their shirts and realized that they were from a pest control company.  The army of guys must have contained 9 guys all ready to control pests carrying sprayers and various other "tools".

First thought was................I'm not hungry anymore!  Second thought was why now?  Everyone watching them as they walked through the area probably was thinking the same thing that I did.  I am not totally nai........na........not totally stupid to think that they don't have a pest problem because I know they do and its way worse then people want to know or believe, however seeing those guys while the food court is still open, serving food and people still eating was absolutely tasteless.  The perception that it gives people ...........NICE!

Really guys, Ala Moana Management............I don't care how much more it costs, BRING THOSE FRICKEN GUYS IN AFTER THE MALL CLOSES.  All I could think was Chinatown's Maunakea market place.

Sometimes you realize that shopping is exhausting to the point that you feel like you're going to pass out if you don't eat. That's one of the main reasons I eat here which is seldom. Other reasons? Because I blew too much money that I need to buy some cheap food that is generous in portions versus going to the top floor for restaurants that can be hit or miss. You don't expect much but the food in general is alright.

    Pros -

The air conditioners seem to be better instead of a humid chamber of torture due to much body heat by the throngs looking for cheap food.
A variety of choices when it comes to vendors.
    Ample seating.
Pretty clean for such a large bustling place.

    Cons -

The food ranges from blah to kind of ok. For the quality I think most of it is rather overpriced.
The crowds. Way too crowded for my comfort.
It's so dark because of a lack of sunlight.
    Ridiculously noisy.

Even though there's an assortment of vendors it still takes me a long time to decide what to get since they are either subpar or just alright. What's the point of alright? Still the places I do like saves this place from a two star review. At least the art that is suspended from the ceiling is interesting.

When you go to Hawaii and you  are gonna go shopping, the Makai Market Food Court is on the lower level of the shopping center. You can pretty much find a variety of foods for you to eat.  The food court is big and one can easily lose themselves in this place if you know what I mean.

We go here maybe twice a month.  Usually go to Panda Express, Coco Curry, or Yummy's.  It's always busy in here but you can always find a table.  They have a cleaning staff that is always walking around wiping tables and sweeping.
Very good choices of food there.

Went to Makai Market Food Court just for the convenience of the abundance of choices available at this food court.  I went to Yummy's and my stepdaughter went to Mama's Spaghetti and we both liked our selections.  Husband and mother in law went to Charley's Grilled Subs and were disappointed and felt that they did not get their monies worth for their subs.  We didn't have a problem finding a table to sit together and didn't have to wait long in the lines.  I personally like the food court and would recommend it just because there is such a large selection of places to have a meal.

The volume of business that goes through Makai Market always amazes me! Most people are not coming here because there's necessarily "amazing" food, but out of pure unadulterated convenience. There are a ton of food choices and if you're in a rush, you can grab and go pretty fast.

This food court is extremely touristy but there's a ton of seating and they do a very good job of keeping everything clean. Much better than any other food court I've ever visited anywhere else. What I like the most about Makai Market is everyone in your party can go their own way and meet back up for a mix of meals everyone can enjoy. Not my first choice for a meal, but if you're at the mall and just need a quick bite, it's the best option.

If you're bored look up and see all the weird art in the ceiling. It's a trip!

What's the word I'm looking to describe Makai Market Food Court? It starts with 'over' and ends with 'rated'. If you can combine those two words together, what word does it come out to? Overrated. That's exactly how I feel towards this food court, and knowing the fact I walk through here all the time when getting to the makai side of the mall.

Makai Market Food Court in many ways is overrated because of how many food vendors there are, it's overcrowded with plenty of tourists and locals alike wanting to eat something for lunch or dinner as they're shopping around the mall. It's no wonder why the food court is very touristy. You can't even find a place to sit down because of how crowded it is and how many people wanna grab something to eat. This is why I tend to avoid eating here at all costs; I'll not only waste my time but also waste my money.

From my point of view, Makai Food Court is kinda expensive with their food in a way that makes me wonder how can anyone afford to eat here. It's definitely no restaurant that's for sure, but with the way there's so many food vendors to choose from at the food court, it's no surprise why people love eating here all the time. I'm not trying to say that it's a bad thing people are wanting to eat at the food court, my point is that the food court is a convenient place to eat at because of all the many different food vendors people can choose from as they need to fill up their appetite by grabbing a quick bite, at the same time, it's not that great of a food court as it doesn't hold any interest value in me whatsoever.

There're lot of good food vendors to eat at if you're at the Makai Market Food Court ranging from Yummy Korean BBQ, Panda Express, Jamba Juice, Curry House, Jolli Bee, and many other vendors. I'll have to give where credit is due for that matter but even so, that's not gonna make me change my mind about wanting to give this food court a higher rating than two stars. What's said is said and there's nothing else I've got to say about that.

This place has it all. Chinese, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, you name it. Only thing bad is you can't get data here. Tried to check in but it kept telling me I checked in already. Jolli Bee's is coming soon. It's in the corner right across from the Curry House. I bet that place will be busy. Jamba Juice to cookies. Anything you want!!!

I work and live nearby, so love the food court.  There is a pretty good variety and I think I have almost tried everything.  I usually get it to-go because I am one who needs air conditioning and the food court always feels hot/humid.

I frequent Hibachi-San, Sbarro, the steak place, Jamba, Paradise, and Panda.

This area of the Ala Moana Shopping Center is pretty much the core of the mall because it is the food headquarters.  You will find a hecka amount of diverse selections of eateries from fast food, plate lunch, smoothies, etc.  Sometimes when it is hecka busy like usually in the weekends or lunch hours, you may not be able to find a seat.  I hate it when you ask your friend to meet you at the food court and you try look for him or her and they so happen to choose a spot in the big mass of tables and chairs and you pretty much play a game of "Where's Waldo." Nonetheless, it's just a great place not only to find somewhere to eat but to experience the essence that is Ala Moana Center.  They have airline ticket computer kiosks mostly for visitors and tourists.  The prices of food can be hecka expensive just because it's Ala Moana, a mega destination for Tourists and Tourists alike.

    Yelp 365: 010/365

This place is, indeed, a four star place.

There are many restaurants here with different styles of cooking.  Whether you are craving Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Vietnamese, they got what you are looking for.  It could be that you're looking for some specific dish to eat like ramen, sandwiches, or even pizza; they got that too!  They got many booths in the middle of this place selling poke bowls, gyros, and panini sandwiches.  They even got desserts!!

Depending on where you go, the service is also adequate.  Most of the booths were good to me, but on certain days, certain places in this food court have those workers who are not as friendly as you would hope.  So service, I would give it 3/5 stars.

Headed straight for Poi Bowl, had to get my Hawaiian food fix! Haven't had it in awhile. Got the Orchid plate which has Kalua pig, pipikaula, long rice, lomi salmon, haupia and poi. Whew, that's alot of food! Everything was good, only thing the pipikaula is wet, more like adobo without the vinegar taste. Lots of food for the price (9.50), couldn't finish it. Snack for later:)

So, you are out with a bunch of friends and you are fighting over where to eat. Somebody wants Chinese, somebody else wants pizza, somebody else wants Chicken. What do you do!? You can't please anyone...or can you?

Just get everyone down to Ala Moana's Makai Market where there is a plethora of food options. 20 or 30 restaurants counts as a plethora right? Anyway, it has a great selection of food items that will please the palate. It isn't a culinary mecca by any accounts however it does offer a great selection whether you want pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads, steak, plate lunches, udon, korean, and much more!

Seating can be a challenge when you go at peak times so be sure to have someone save some seats for you while the rest of you get your food. Remember, you are friends and nice. So be sure to let the people who are hungriest or might have the longest wait to get there food. Well, be fair at least!

Seats aren't the most comfortable, but they do the job and ambiance is decent for what it is. The staff do a fantastic job wiping down the tables and making sure the trash cans are tidy so that it is clean and neat when you get there.

So if you happen to be in the neighborhood, or are just indecisive! check it out! :-)

Comparing this food court to other places here in Honolulu....yes handsdown Ala Moana has thee best! so many choices it's a bit overwhelming especially when all you wanna do is grab a bite to eat but once you step foot, I find myself torn on where to eat since I like majority of their food stands. hmmmm japanese food today? panda's? mexican? italian? hawaiian? american? ahhh so many choices I tell you, but whatever it is you're craving I'm pretty sure you'll satisfy it by eating here.

    My Picks:
Tsuruya (tempura and cold soba set)
Panda's (chow mein/chow fun mixed, orange chicken and mushroom chicken w/ zucchini)
Mama's Spaghetti house (lobster w/ spinach pasta)
Poi bowl (lau lau, tripe stew, chicken long rice is good)
Hibachi-san grill (steak and chicken mixed veggies w/ brown rice)
Lahaina Chicken company (Prime rib w/ roast chicken combo!)
Senor Pepe (try their chicken tamales!)
Curry House (chicken cutlet w/ cheese)
    Jamba Juice (Acai Primo bowl)
Charley's GrilledSubs (Philly cheesesteak and gourmet fries, make sure to order their ice cold lemonade!)

It can get quite busy here and finding a table might be a problem, but as long as you got food in your mouth, it's all good... Don't stress out, life is too short for that! :D

Makai Market Food Court is a fantastic place to go. I work in and out of Honolulu on a consistent basis and I eat here all the time. You really couldn't recommend a diversified food court to eat at.

Most of the time, I eat at the Lahaina Chicken Factory. I typically get the 8oz prime rib with 3 sides, corn, macaroni and cheese, salad and a large coke. The meal comes out to 11 dollars. The prime rib is really good and it's pretty close to calling it perfect. The service there is quick and friendly.

The other spots that I visit are the Blazzin Steaks, Panini Grill Sandwiches, Steak & Fish Company and the Paradise Cafe.

Paradise Cafe makes some of the best baked goods in town. My favorite is the oatmeal cookies they make. Some how, they've stolen my grandmothers recipe.

All in all, it's a local spot that is an affordable location if you are in the area... and the best spot is there is so many restaurants in one area. Another thing, while yelp considers 11-30 dollars moderate, I would say under 15 is still cheap in Hawaii for the quantity that you get here.

Humongous food court that is the heart of the Ala Moana Mall. It's mostly Asian food (as are the majority of the restaurants in Honolulu) but they do have a Sbarro (Italian) and a Mexican joint. There is plenty of seating here. I noticed lots of people were here to eat but lots were also just hanging out here with friends. It was clean despite how busy it was. This is also where my favorite "Honolulu Cookie" stand is...bought so many boxes of them to take home to my friends and family! Especially convenient to come here if you're shopping with a group of people because there's something here for everyone. Great prices.

We've grown up with Ala Moana so it may seem like just another mall to us, but in reality Ala Moana is a world class mall with world class shopping!

From the ultra high end, to the local tourist shop, weekly live performances and even a couple of ABC Stores, Ala Moana has got you covered; except for when it rains (bring your umbrella!).

The food court has every single type of food in the world (except Indian, Middle Eastern, Russian, Irish & Egyptian.). And all at reasonable prices.
Step outside of the food court and you can dine at one of the mid-grade restaurants or perhaps even Morton's & Longhi's for a bit of a splurge.

Feeling like dancing? Head over to Pear Ultralounge for drinks till 4am on the weekend!

You can get your nails done, your hair cut and your makeup maked. You can get a workout walking from one end to the other and if nothing else you can people watch =)

I don't know who even remembers when there was time whenthere were tons of rats running around "behind the scenes."  Ah, rats shmats.  If I don't see them in my food, I try not to think about it, otherwise my OCD will prevent me from EVER eating out!

This is a great food court and is hands down has the most variety of any other mall food court I've been to.  What shopping center can you go where you can pick from Hawaiian Food, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Korean, Italian, Thai, BBQ and don't forget the ones on the outskirts, like Subway and Dairy Queen?  No place but Ala Moana!  You will definitely be able to find something to eat here.  No doubt.  And if you can't, stick to the snacks in your bag because you're probably hard to please.

Several Chinese stands, Japanese, Thai, Local Plate Lunches, Pizza, Salad, Burgers, Steak, Korean, and many others. We enjoy going here because of all that. If you have a group and everyone wants something different, this is the easiest choice to make. Of course it isn't a culinary mecca, but who cares. Indulge in some junk foods.

It's always really busy which makes it one of the best places to people watch in the whole mall.

One of the largest food courts I've ever seen.  I made the mistake of going on a weekday at lunchtime, when it's exceptionally crowded.

Basically every sort of food you can imagine.  I'm not sure I saw West African, but that's about all that's missing.  As a visitor, I opted for a traditional Hawaiian spot, offering chicken long rice, spam, spaghetti, and other goodies.  Wish I had more time in Hawaii to return and have a few other selections.

There are many options, but it turns out, many of them are mediocre. We looped around twice trying to find anything we wanted. Surprisingly, the samples we got ended up discouraging us from eating at the establishments - we tried a lot of subpar chicken, I'll just leave it at that. Maybe I'm just spoiled by other food courts, but many dull options isn't better than fewer good ones in my books. To be fair, aja looked like it had a lot of interesting options for $4 each as they were shutting down for the night, and there were some good looking dumplings that were also gone by our second trip, but I wouldn't come back.

Tom Moffatt is a legendary DJ and music promoter in Hawaii. He's voice and program can still be heard on Kool Gold - KKOL FM 107.9. He has this schtick called "Uncle Tom's Treasure Hunt". I PM'ed Jerrene T. to see if she wanted to play.

    "Hi Jerrene,

Ever heard of "Uncle Tom's Treasure Hunt"? You get clues to figure out the famous place where the treasure is buried. Want to play?"

    "Hi Val:

Never heard of Uncle Tom but I'll give it a try! P.S. Kent (infant son) is being crazy today and not wanting to nap!"

Clue No. 1: "Believe it or not; it sits on what was once a swamp."

Jerrene: "Hmm! I feel like I should know this. Remember I'm young and you should plan your clues to nothing before 1947 when my parents were born."

Clue No. 2: "OK! 1959 was a significant date for this place."

Message from me: ..tick, tick, tick .."Hey Jerrene.  If Kent is awake; do you mind if I play this game with him instead. You are taking too long!!!"

    Jerrene: "Kapiolani Park."

Me: "Wrong!  Clue No. 3: It's a little off center but the CENTER of something big!!"

Message from me: ...tick, tick .."OK!  We started Monday.  Today is Tuesday!!"...tick, tick ..

Jerrene: "Did Pearl Harbor used to be a swamp. That's Lary's (husband) guess. He's also thinking Island of Oahu!"

Me: "Now the whole family is involved!!!  Clue No. 4:  "An estimated 20 million people visit this place annually."

Jerrene: "What about the Polynesian Cultural Center?"

Me: "Logical; but Clue No. 5 is: "Kamehameha would say that it's a direction that can be north, south, east or west."

    Jerrene: "Iolani Palace!"

Clue No. 6: "It is one of the largest in the largest that is MAKAI?"

    Jerrene: "Aloha Tower!!!!"

Clue No. 7: "Here, at the beginning of Keeaumoku Street, the Italians are Filipino; the Koreans are Filipino; the Chinese are Filipino; the whites are Filipino!!!"

    Jerrene: "Ala Moana Shopping Center!!!"

Me: "That was really close!  Clue No. 8: "Patti's Chinese Kitchen has been replaced by the Chinatown Express in this food court."

Clue No. 1:  Walter Dillingham purchased the land on which the Ala Moana Shopping Center is built from the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Estate in 1912. Back then, the area was a swamp. Dillingham filled the swamp with the coral dredged in the reshaping of Honolulu and other harbors and turned this and the Kakaako area into valuable land.

Clue No. 2:  In 1948 Walter's son Lowell, initiated plans to develop the 50 acre lot into a shopping center. He broke grounds in 1957 and on August 13, 1959 the Ala Moana Shopping Center opened.

Clue No. 3: Macy's and Sears on the ends; near the center is the Makai Market Food Court (MMFC).

Clue No. 4:  An estimated 56 million people visit the Ala Moana Shopping Center (Owned by Chicago-based General Growth Properties) annually. About 20 million of the 56 million people visit the food court.

Clue No. 5: Mauka is mountain; makai is water. Makai can be in any cardinal direction.

Clue No. 6: The MMFC is one of the largest food courts in the U.S. and is located in the largest open air shopping center in the world.

Clue No. 7: You will be surprised to see that many of the servers and cooks in the food court restaurant's are Filipino. I think that is why there is no Filipino restaurant in this place. There aren't enough Filipino's to go around.

Clue No. 8: The last of the original restaurants, Patti's Chinese Kitchen, closed in 2010. There spot is now the Chinatown Express. The other MMFC eateries and recommendations:

The Makai Market is a huge food court inside the Ala Moana Center. It is packed on a Friday night and weekends. There are so many places to choose from, many typical in any US Mall, and many unique to Hawaii.

Amazing! This food court is huge and has food from pretty much anywhere you can imagine. I had Japanese food from Donburiya Dondon and my sister had Korean food from Yummy Korean BBQ. They were both pretty good!

The only thing is that it can get insanely crowded. Don't expect to find a table right away.

When I have no clue what to eat when I come to Ala Moana, I come here. They have over 20 eateries here. They have all types of ethnic foods ranging from Japanese to Chinese to Mexican to salads and sandwiches. The predominant food type is Japanese ranging from curry to don to ramen. There's even a couple of smoothie places. This place has a few eateries that have withstand the test of time such as Poi Bowl and Paradise Bakery and also new places open also to keep the place fresh and changing such as The Fat Greek  (see review) or Bangga Bangga.

There are a lot of tables but it can get crowded on the weekends and lunch hour. Overall it is clean but a bit noisy. Also the bathrooms are not the best, stick to the mall or department store ones.  ^_^*~

Best mall food court I've ever seen.  Great variety of choices including a number of stores not seen on the mainland.  Nice diversion from Waikiki.

One of the most well kept malls I've ever been to.  Everything here is pretty and they even have a koi pond, and a stage where they can have performances.

This place can be dangerous especially if your'e from the bay area where the sales tax is an arm, a leg, and one of your feet.  In Hawaii it's like an arm... a skinny one.  LOL!

Some good shopping can be done here, and eating too!

Excellent alternative to higher priced eateries in Waikiki.  Less than 15 minute walk from Hilton Hawaiian Village area.  Largest food court I've ever seen.  Probably 50 or so eating choices.  Plenty of seating.

    Watch out for the birds!
Lots of food selections to feed your appetite.  You just might have to walk around once to see all the great places.
Favorite place: Sobaya (Japanese) - just love it
    Least favorite:Yummy's Korean BBQ - overpriced/small portions

A FREAKIN' PLETHORA OF FOOD CHOICES. Foreal, anything you're craving, they will probably have something you will enjoy. They have Hawaiian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, the list goes on! Too bad I couldn't try everything though... You usually have to wait for an open table, because they're all usually occupied, so you know it has to be good.

Oh, and I like going to the Honolulu Cookie Co. for dessert. A couple samples satisfy my sugar cravings. Hahah

I always find myself going here every time I visit Honolulu.  Maybe it's because my bus pass takes me here, or because I don't really know where else to go -- but none-the-less this place has all the choices I could ever want.

Every time I've came here I could never decide on one thing to eat and I end up ordering foods from different stands.  After I'm done eating we usually enjoy a little massage from the massage chairs they have there =P.

This place had just about everything I could ever ask for and it makes me sad that I don't have a place to go to like this in Nor-Cal ... eh, oh well.  Makes me excited for my next trip to Hawaii -- spring break maybe?

Short and simple:  variety of different foods, decent prices= 5 stars.  Sure not all the food vendors are 5 stars but I'm rating the food court and the variety and options they provide are really above and beyond other food courts in huge mainland malls I've been to. :)
