Wtf was goin on last night in this joint?!
It was poppin the fuck off, drunk peeps yelling and having a blast. Even though it was the last Yankee game and there are no tv's in here, it was still packed. You could hear the craziness from across the street.
I think 99% of the peeps sport black attire in this bar...patrons see themselves as dark and deep. Its always a great spot to hang with wanna-be abstruse psuedo-intellectuals.
I got smashed on wine....wine!Listed in: ill-town restaurants/bars

Chill atmosphere. Cozy seating. Dark lighting (love!) BUT very limited menu. I had the Turkey Breast Panini and Pineapple juice, both were yummy. The server was nice and attentive (or maybe she was checking out my guy friend. He is the looker)
But what won me over you ask?
The music.
They played Ibrahim Ferrer & Buena Vista Social Club. I melted. -

Definitely check out the skirt steak and potatoes drenched in that yummy spicy Peruvian sauce! Gus provided my wife and I with fantastic service.. Oh and the flan for dessert is a must! Great vibe for jersey city.. Definitely worth checking out!

Bar Majestic is my kinda scene, especially when I want to get cozy on a date in a nice, chill atmosphere with food that's meant for sharing.
A booth in the back, a healthy helping of tapas, and cocktails are all in order. I usually get their bruschetta in a few different varieties, and highly recommend the honey and almond if you have a sweet tooth.
They regularly have live music, which adds to the eclectic atmosphere. It's just the right amount of dark, with thoughtful lighting touches that make it almost magical.
It is a bit pricey. I've been known to rack up a bar bill pushing $100 with some light fare. Even still, there are happy hour specials to enjoy to keep your wallet happy. Subscribe to their Facebook fan page to keep abreast of what's happening: http://www.facebook.co... -

Wine bar with outdoor seating, sensible live music, and small plates. A go-to source for girls night out, or check in here late night when the pace picks up a bit. Booth seating keeps things cozy, the front of the house is very cool with bar tables parallel to the front windows. Cool architecture and lighting round out the unique decor.
Quick tip: Stop in and pick up an unopened bottle to bring home for your own night in. -

Hot damn this place is the shit! I came here with a sick living social coupon - 25 for 50 worth of food/drink. I got 3 cheeses and 3 bruschettes, an appletini, a sam adams, 2 paninis, and a cocktail...grand price was 63 but with special only 13. WOW!
BUt as for the taste - everything was awesome and really good. They have a really cool atmosphere and play great jazz music.
I can't wait to go here in the summer summer summer time! -

Came here on a warm Monday night with my roommates. We moved to the area back in July of last year but this was the first time we stepped foot into the place. The decor inside is very cute and dark and intimate. Because the weather was warm and breezy, we sat outside.
The service was great -- our waitress and the busboys were attentive and sweet. By the time we had ordered (around 9:30PM), they ran out of a lot of items on the menu, including cheeses, antipasti, tuna, and empanadas.
My roommates each tried a glass of the sangria which they loved, said it wasn't too sweet. I ordered the panini with chorizo, manchego, arugula, and hot sauce and it came with a side of potatoes. The panini and potatoes (especially the potatoes) were very very delicious. My roommate tried the shrimp bisque, which she thought was bland (she kept adding salt and pepper to it).
All in all, this place is cute, the service was great, the outdoor seating was nice, and the menu was yummy -- and I would definitely come back. -

Majestic is a wine bar I wouldn't expect to find in Jersey City. From the outside, it doesn't look like very much, but the intimate dim-lit interior makes a nice, inviting setting. My review is more like a 3.5, and would have received much higher if the service was better. In their defense, there was only one waiter that night for every table, and it was a full house.
Wine is very good and a nice selection. The food is surprising good. We had a chickpea soup which was delicious but a little heavy on the garlic, two very good paninis and delicious fried Manchego cheese. The chef also sent us out complimentary chocolate mousse.
Order a glass of Malbec and the Fried Manchego and enjoy a relaxed and intimate evening in a surprisingly nice Jersey City wine bar. -

Went on a Saturday night for drinks only. Strange vibe resulting from the dissonance of the aspirations to hipness, giant sports TVs, expensive drinks, distracted bartender, and poorly-mixed cocktails. Maybe it's better to go for wine and food. I guess I'd be willing to give it another try. Maybe it was an off night?

My Sunday tour of Jersey City ended with a visit to Majestic. Definitely not a place I'd expect to find in NJ, let alone, Jersey City, but a pleasant surprise. I loved the dark lounge seating in the back. It was pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon and I wondered if it ever gets busy. I assume perhaps later in the evening or during the week? Not sure, but I was ok with having the place almost entirely to myself.
The wine selection was pretty good and it was nice that they had different cocktail options as well. I stuck to wine but if I ever re-visit, I might want to try one of their specialty drinks. The food smelled good and would definitely be on my list of things to try as well. -

Every type of food is DRENCHED or fried in oil/butter. Even my friend who loves butter thought it was a bit much. The bread salad was drenched in dressing as well.
Positive: Tuesday nights flamenco is pretty cool, the trio who performs are quite the energetic group.
Psst: i think they use cheap wine on Tuesday nights for the 10 dollar sangria pitcher. -

A local favorite. Great place for a date...sit outside in the nice weather with some wine or a cocktail, have some refreshing snacks. Also a nice calm place to close up an evening out with a final drink at the bar and some conversation with friends before going home.

Wine? Check.

Olive Oil drizzled Bread? Check.

Easy to find a table? Check.
Next to a Yoga Studio? Check.
Well, the last one is not a requirement, but it's definitely a bonus... especially since I have been looking for a new Yoga Class....
Yoga and Wine.... You can't go wrong...

I came here for a birthday party of a good friend several years ago which was a blast. Unfortunately I could not stay long. The restaurant/bar is within walking distance from the PATH trains. The restaurant/bar is very accomodating to our large party of forty plus which they serve drinks and allow outside food for cakes. They also allowed a belly dancer who sernade the birthday boy which I sadly missed as I was unable to stay long.
Price is moderate for drinks. There is no coat check. I rate it four stars as the food portions are small and there were not many choices for cocktails. I'm a cocktail girl who needs her Cosmo, Strawberry Martini's, Mimosa's, etc.
I was feeling MAJESTIC but not fully enlighten. -

Jersey City, NJ
Pros:
Delicious, kinda upscale food options
Host street parties for some events (Oktoberfest)
Nice cocktail menu (hot drinks in the winter, frozen in the summer)
Comfy spacious seating in the lounge part
Sometimes live music performs
Outdoor seating in the summer
Cons:
Kinda expensive and small portions of the delicious food
No beer on tap, they just pour bottles into glasses
No knock-your-sox-off drink specials--$6 for a glass of wine is still a lot
Uncomfortable bar stools in the bar part
Sometimes the house trance vibe music they play is too loud for conversation -

This is formally "THE MAJESTIC THEATER" where Mae West & W.C.Fields performed, as well as many other greats, you will certainly have a lovely time having a good martini or exotic wine.
The food? sorry-I had no intentions of eating when I got there, but the drinks were fantastic! NOT a meat market either-whew, let your hair down and enjoy! -

I used to walk past this bar every day and think to myself how much I wanted to check it but how I didn't think I'd like it because I am not typically a wine person. However, I checked it out not too long ago with a friend on what happened to be Board Game Night. Excellent! We spent the whole night playing Candyland and Life and had a grand old time. They also have different Movie Nights over the course of the week and any place with plush seats, candlelit tables, and The Godfather on a huge projection screen is awesome in my book.
This is also a nice place to take a date for drinks. It's great for one on one conversation due to the relaxed lighting and comfortable seats. -

This is a cute place. I went with a close friend to catch up and enjoy some drinks. We really liked the feel of the place. The bartender was really friendly and helpful. He even gave us a free order of fries to munch on! The cocktails are very good and strong. Want to come back again, soon.

I love Flamenco, so I was motivated to visit Bar Majestic for their Tuesday, Flamenco Show. The singers were really amazing, I felt as if I was back in Spain. They were from Granada, Spain- a place very close to my heart.
We enjoyed the show over a carafe of sangria. The sangria wasn't as good as I had hoped, a bit weak like punch. Otherwise, I enjoyed the evening and will go back for sure. -

Under New Management, the bar is still gorgeous but the new owners got rid of a lot of the personality this place had. Now they are more focused on wine and cheese which is great, but the menu has gotten much more pretentious. The cut-down-to-size beer selection now features uppity expensive beers as well.
On the plus side, the staff is much friendlier, the cocktails are amazing, and the crowd is still the same young, hip, cool cats from before.
I stopped by Wednesday just before they were closing the bar. The kitchen had long since been closed, so I couldn't get a taste of the cheese. I stopped by not much earlier the next day, but the Chef remembered me and sent out a complementary plate! Now THAT is good service. I was impressed with his memory and the fruit and cheese plate was delicious--a delicate Manchego with pear slices and blackberry jam.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Jersey City, NJ
I went to Majestic last night with my husband and another couple. We had purchased a Groupon a couple months ago and had the perfect chance to use it. We've been there once before and the other couple use to be regulars when they lived in the area.
We ordered a pitcher of sangria to start. They only had red but the bartender offered to make us a white. Kinda weird since I thought the whole point of sangria was to soak the fruit. So basically we got a carafe of white wine, a lot of ice, and some chopped fruit. Tasted good so they get a star for that but not really sangria.
I ordered a panini which was fantastic and gives them their only other star. However, it was with my husband's order where everything went downhill... He was interested in some meats and/or cheeses. I wish they listed their prices online... Basically, you could get combinations of 3 (for $12, I think) 5 or 7 cheeses. The 7 cheeses were $20 or so. You could also get 3 meats for $20. My husband was debating the two and the bartendar (who was the only person working that evening) said she could put together a combination for him. We didn't ask if it was something normally on the menu or if she was just "helping" us out. Come to find out there was NO helping whatsoever. We should have clarified because when we got the check she had charged us $20 for 1 meat and 2 cheeses. WTF? We could've gotten 3 meats for the same price. That makes no sense. That's like charging the same price for non-alcoholic sangria as you would for normal sangria! When we asked her about it, she couldn't have been any ruder either!! She claimed she never implied that the price would've been anything else and honestly was just a bitch about it. My husband would've ordered a whole plate of meat for the same price.
Needless to say, after this interaction, we will NOT be returning to Majestic. The service was terrible - we had to ask for menus, she never asked how the food was or anything, didn't check when our drinks were empty. And it wasn't like the place was packed. She had no excuse. I really hope an owner or manager reads this because the experience we had was HORRIBLE. -

Stopped in the other night for a quick bite to eat, but it happened to be Bingo night, so we ended up staying for several hours. The food we had was absolutely delicious and the sangria was great. The atmosphere of the place is wonderful - not a pick up joint at all. Kris, the manager was tons of fun. We'll be back weekly, if not more often!

The food here is really tasty. Good drink selection. I wasn't expecting to be "wowed" by the food but I was. I look forward to going back. It's also a lovely place to dine outside during the warm weather seasons.

This is a fantastic little wine bar to take the trip out to Jersey for. The wine selection is top shelf and varies from your crispest Chianti to your sweetest dessert wine. The place has the best vibe of any bar I've visited yet. You're able to have a private conversation in the corner or you can sit in a more open area and chat with your neighbors. The food is your typical wine bar fare with a range of olives, cheese and fruits. There's only one desert special per night. But that's okay, because you're really there for the wine.

This has to be one of the loveliest spaces I've ever seen- five stars, without a doubt, for the decor. The vine-branch motif on the back wall and front windows looked, to me, like the Snow White ride in Disney World. And in case you're wondering, that's a very good thing. I was also impressed by the prices and selection. Minus a star for the bathroom section. ONE unisex bathroom? At a bar? Seriously? But, every other aspect to it, I dug, so I'd totally go back.

The dark atmosphere of this lounge located on Grove St is not a bad place to visit before or after dinner. Been here several times they have a good choice of beers and wines. I recommend getting the cheese platter, a panini and some red wine, try the Malbec if they have it.

I love cozy little bars, and this is as cozy as it gets! Went here for drinks and ordered a cheese plate that was delightful. Will be back many, many times, as I live 5 minutes away, which is the perfect distance once the weather gets cold and I don't feel like dragging my ass into the city!

I love music. I love flamenco. Bar Majestic has begun a Tuesday night flamenco series. Me gusta! The 3 stars rating comes from the way the staff handled an issue with a wrong order and complaint (which I rarely do, but the bruschetta we got was so horrific I couldn't pretend to like it when she asked).
This was the first night of the series and my first time ever at Bar Majestic.
THE SCENE: tuesday night
There's a cozy bar area in the front which break the otherwise cavernous space into a more intimate imbibing area. My boyfriend and I continued to the back, which was sparse yet cozy with banquets along either side wall and an open kitchen window on the back one. About half full on a tuesday night, which isn't terrible for Jersey City, although I think about half of them were with the AWESOME flamenco guitarist and singer who, unfortunately ,neglected to give their name. Luckily, they promised to be back next tuesday with a dancer - I will be there.
THE FOOD:
We weren't that hungry so we ordered 3 bruschetta ($7). The waitress got our order wrong, and when we told her she fixed it promptly with no problem. However, one of the bruschetta that we ordered was some totally weird chickpea thing that tasted and smelled like nail polish remover (a bruschetta of the day, obviously a failed attempt at innovation) and although we felt a little a$$-holey about it, we told her, because it was literally inedible. She apologized and suggested a goat cheese and carmelized onion to replace it, which was awesome (along with all the others, including the accidental one we didn't order but she told us to keep) Problem is, we were charged for an extra bruschetta at the end.
I'll give it to them that we ate the extra bruscetta that we had, but the fact is that we didn't order it and she gave it to us, and the other was DISGUSTING! Bad form.
THE DRINKS:
Decent wine list ($5-10/ glass) cocktails around $8, decent beer (nothing "beer geek-y", but a few interesting pics). We had the Los Dos Grenache for $20/bottle.
Overall a really cute spot. Great live music and great traditional Mediterranean menu (cheese, meat, bruschetta, panini) but I can't get over feeling a little put off by being charged for the extra bruschetta. -

Used to like this place, nice atmosphere and friendly bartender. Drinks weren't to die for but the ambience made up for it. Would have stayed an ok walk to place had the bartender not padded our tab. Dude I would never have 6 sangrias they're just not that great and even if they were, they're so watered down I wouldn't get drunk enough off them to not pay attention to the bill.

Bar Majestic is a cozy bar/lounge and its a nice place to bring a date or someone special. It's near the PATH train station. It was a bit early when I arrived (around 10:30pm) so there wasn't much people there. I ordered a drink and it cost $8 freaking dollars. That was too much. Plus I ordered the Pomodoro pizza and it was just ok. I may come back if someone were taking me out and I wasn't going to spend my money. It was a bit pricey. The drink didn't even give me a buzz. And the glass was so small it looked like a shot glass.

Oh, I see, we were supposed to order wine. Now I get it. See we were lulled in by the tempting bottle of Sierra Nevada in the window and the almost wonderful ambiance. Even the somewhat repetitious house music wasn't all that annoying and the bartenders were friendly enough despite our somewhat mottled appearance (for this coast) and lack of black. But $6 for Sierra? That's quite a tax for not ordering a fine Sangiovese.

Majestic is probably one of my favorite bars in Jersey City. They have a great wine selection and nice outdoor seating for the warmer months. Happy hour during the week here is preferred as the "DJ" on Friday and Saturday nights tends to blast highly repetitive trance and house music making conversations a little more difficult.
Good appetizers and decent deserts. Nice happy hour specials. -

It's nice that my 'hood now has a wine bar (am I sincere or sarcastic when I write that? Even I don't know the answer) and I was glad to see that the wine list didn't just rely on the wines that non-wine snobs know about (yes, everyone's seen Sideways at this point and thinks that it's deep to like pinot noir; also I'm entirely sincere when I say that I hate chardonnay almost as much as I hate the fact that it's everywhere). The lighting is relaxed and I could see coming back to try the banana bread pudding which we missed because the kitchen was already closed. One gripe, however: it is SO NOT classy to decorate the walls with wrought iron shelves that have bottles of alcohol on them. Even if it were classy, you'd probably want to stick with classier bottles. I mean seriously: Tanqueray? Do I really want to sit on a sofa under a decorative bottle of Tanqueray? Yes, I realize it is Dr. Dre and Snoop's gin of choice when mixing up the "gin 'n' juice" but somehow it's just not what I picture as a quality wall tchotchke...

This is THE place to go if I want to meet someone for a drink in JC. The decor is beautiful--all decadent-looking art noveau, very fin-de-siècle Paris meets Aubrey Beardsley. The bar staff knows their stuff; when I order a perfect manhattan, I don't have to explain what that means (which has happened next door). When the place is crowded, it has the glam feel of a nightclub, and when it's more empty, it feels very chic, a very classy place to meet for an intimate cocktail rendezvous.
