It is difficult to rate this place. In terms of charm and class, I'd give it 5 stars. But in terms of a practical and ultimately comfortable place to stay, well, not so much.

The good: The building is real nice. The lobby, restaurant and bar are all nice. They have room service. The room was beautifully furnished and the bed was very comfy.

Here's the rub. The building is right in the middle of downtown anacortes, overlooking all the bars and restaurants. The rooms (at least our room) don't have A/C, so you basically have to open the windows with a dozen bars right across the street. Let me put it this way; this is the only hotel I've ever stayed at that provides ear plugs in the bathroom along with the soap and shampoo. We stayed in November, so it was cool out and there wasn't a lot of traffic; but... I wouldn't stay there during the summer. Our room was also very small. I mean, bordering on uncomfortably tiny. We had the cheapest room; their more expensive rooms are larger (we peeked in one). Based on these negatives, we also felt that the price was high ($160 for the cheapest room in the off season).

On the other hand, if you plan on taking in the night life to the wee hours and dragging out of bed at noon for spa treatments the next day, this could be exactly the spot for you.

(related: despite other reviews, we weren't impressed by the 'Adrift' across the street for dinner, but liked the Calico Cafe down the street about 4 blocks for breakfast).

I stayed at the majestic for a romantic weekend getaway. It is a beautiful Inn. It's pricey, but it's the little things they have done that make it worth it. They have left some of the old molding old style sinks and things like that, yet updated the bed frame, flat screeen on the wall. And the spa right there in the Inn.... just wonderful.

I stayed here recently for a business trip and I was very impressed with the hotel based on the other places I saw while driving through town.  I stayed in the standard room which was actually quite small compared to many other hotels I have stayed at.  The room was very modern with a LCD flat panel TV, crown molding, and a down comforter.  Overall the room was very nice though the next time I stay I will probably spring for an upgrade.  I had the opportunity to view the presidential suite a coworker got upgraded too.  It is very spacious with a living room, bedroom and two bathrooms.  One of the bathrooms had a 6 shower head system installed and the other had a jacuzzi in it.  The suite also had two separate balconies  with a fantastic view of the city and the San Juan islands.

The one negative experience I had was that my room was missing the TV remote for several days.  I had complained multiple times to front desk and yet it took 5 days for a TV remote to show up in my room.  If it weren't for this incident I would have given this establishment 4 stars and not 3.  In summary this is still a great hotel that is centrally located near many good restaurants.  I would stay here again if I had the chance.

We wanted to get away for a relaxing and romantic weekend and the Majestic Inn & Spa fit the bill.  The hotel has been very recently renovated to really reflect its original charm and beauty, and the whole place feels bright and cheerful.

Highlights:
- Our room (Imperial King) was clean and felt spacious.  It had a wet bar, flat screen tv, and dvd player.
- Massages in the spa were GREAT.  Don't miss out on a spa appointment if you stay here!

Lowlights:
- The maid service is kind of slow and they didn't change the sheets.
- The front desk staff was generally friendly but not particularly helpful.  Witness this exchange:
Me: So, we wanted to walk around to some cool shops.  Are there any areas we should go to find cool stuff?
Front Desk Girl: (shakes head) Uh, no, not really.  This is pretty much it.
Also this exchange:
Me: We wanted to go over to Friday Harbor, but I am concerned that because it is Sunday, shops won't be open.  Do you know if generally stuff is open on Sunday there?
Front Desk Guy: I don't know, I would guess so.
Me: But almost all the little shops in Anacortes are closed on Sunday, right?
FDG: Uh, yeah, I guess so.  (pause) I haven't been to Friday Harbor since I was a kid.
So, it wasn't really rude or unacceptable, just not very helpful.

All in all though, I would definitely stay here again.  You can walk to shops, bars and restaurants, and really just relax.

My husband and I love the little french fries here.   They are slender, crisp and salty!  We sit in the bar and drink martinis, eat the fish and chips and listen to the local musicians.   They have music on the weekends, which is nice but beware the place can get pretty busy.  The formal dining room is nice but a little more stuffy.  We love the coziness of the bar.
