I have always thought that I would know that I was finally fluent in French when I start to dream in French. While that may not have happened yet, I already have the setting for my French slumber: Maison Reve.
This lovely, lovely French store has many treasures and found items, from linens, to jewelry, to candle sticks. It all has a clean, whitewashed feel, with accents of red, and plenty of phrases written in black script to decorate your home. There are antiques as well as new items, and it is such a pleasure to browse. On my most recent visit, there was a basket of antique glass ornaments for sale outside the door, in luscious shades of blue.
Workshops and special services are also offered - all with the goal of inspiring people to slow down and enjoy life's pleasures. Holding a handmade cafe au lait bowl in your hands in the morning might be a good way to start.
Whether you are shopping for a tasteful, unique gift or an architectural find, Maison Reve is sure to inspire your dreams en francais.

Maison Reve, Dream House en francais, has lots of charm. It was my first visit to Mill Valley and I wasn't sure what to expect. This shop carries one-of-a-kind pieces as well as brand name sheets, baubles, vintagey treasures and more. What totally got me is the "garden" toward the back. The space opens into the greenery in the background, which makes for an organic, natural feeling. You're still in doors, but the feeling is something more.
The owner, Yasmine Ahmed, also offers several services, such as interior design, container parties, wedding consultation and workshops. I have yet to use any, but check the website for more info.
I just love the feeling I got when I walked in!
