I've been going to Sharon Lombard at the Maison Salon in Burlingame for 6 or 7 years, and the owner decided to close that location and consolidate in the San Mateo location, which is actually more convenient for me. Since I usually visit on a Saturday, parking is not an issue as you can park in the Caltrain station around the corner for only $.25/hour. The salon is a large space with soaring ceilings and tall angled mirrors at each station. The ambiance is warm and bright with a nice buzzing busy vibe, though the salon was a bit overcowded on a Saturday morning with all stations in use.
Sharon is always punctual, meticulous and attentive and does not over-schedule her book as some stylists do. She is also conscientious about calling with a reminder the day before an appointment just to be sure it hasn't slipped off your calendar. Many of the stylists have been with the salon for years and have a devoted following, so if you're looking for a new stylist, check out Maison Salon. -

I've been bouncing from stylist to stylist for years since my go-to hair girl moved out of the area. I have finally found my hair home!
I made my first appointment back in August with Angela based on reviews from yelp (Ellie got great reviews too). It was kind of short notice, but luckily she was able to fit me in. I don't even know where to begin with everything I liked.. The salon has a great feel and design. And you know it's a nice place when you get offered a glass of wine! Angela took the time to ask questions and understand what I wanted.. and the end result was EXACTLY what I wanted! I think I ended up paying around $150 for the cut, highlights, and a good tip.
I've since been back again in November to go slightly darker, and was just as happy with the results the second time around. Angela really listened to what I wanted, and even offered some helpful suggestions. She's such a sweet girl! She also has a cool app on iTunes called Angie Does My Hair which makes making appointments with her really easy.
In over 4 years I've never been back to a salon after the first try.. but Maison Deux has broken that streak!
p.s. there's a 2 hour time limit on the meters (my hair takes longer than that!). the best place to park is just around the corner at the BART parking lot.. it's even cheaper than the meters on the street, and you don't have to worry about the time limit! -

I recently moved here and desperately needed to get my hair done. So...I Yelped the area and Maison Deux had some glowing reviews. I crossed my fingers, called and hoped they could squeeze me in that day. You can only imagine my excitement when they could.
My visit went perfectly and i was very happy with the end result. Mimi was my stylist and she was very friendly and talented.
Pricing is very competitive with salons in the city. For color, cut and tip...I paid $156. I probably would have paid more. ;)
Note - there's a good amount of street parking and the meter's aren't that expensive.
Overall...I loved how easy it was to make an appointment and I loved my hair after I left. With that being said...it's time for you to go to Maison Deux and ask for Mimi. You'll be very glad you did! -

Mimi is great. She listened to what style I wanted and asked detailed questions to make sure we both understood my expectations. Haircut turned out better than I had hoped. The number of positive comments coming into work on Monday morning further confirmed Mimi's awesome skills!

I imagine that when I walk into salons, stylists take one look at my messy head of hair and think they should have called in sick that day. It takes a truly adventurous spirit to approach my hair with a smile that doesn't crack at the edges. Because of that, I find myself on a continuous epic quest to determine "my" salon, and for the Peninsula area, that salon is Maison Deux.
I've floated between Angela and Mimi and had great experiences with both. Most people on Yelp speak highly of Angela, so I went to her the first time and walked out with a fluffy head of hair and a happy smile. Later, I needed an emergency cut because I was told I needed to be on camera at short notice. I made an appointment for the first available stylist and ended up with Mimi. Again, I walked out feeling as though the wild beast on my head had been properly tamed, and from then on, I've alternated between them based on my schedule and their availability.
I tend not to have strong opinions about how my hair should be cut and let stylists do what they want. Both Mimi and Angela are able to turn my indecision into something very flattering and stylish. The prices are very cheap for a quality salon, it's easy to get an appointment, and I enjoy the ambiance (a smock to wear while you cut my hair? yes please!). -

My husband and I saw Angela a few days apart. I was first. She was 15 mins late getting to the salon (I was the 1st appt). She has kids so I totally understood. She did a decent job on my hair but I wasn't wow'ed. I was kinda surprised that she didn't offer a discount or throw in something when she was so late to get there (luckily another stylist was there so I didn't have to wait outside).
3 days later my husband had his appt. He was 10 mins late because he had trouble finding the salon. She told him she couldn't take him. He didn't tell her he was my husband, but knew she was late for my appt. He tried to convince her that his cut was simple and shouldn't make her late for her next customer. She argued with him for another 10 mins then agreed to cut his hair and slowly softened towards him. Again the cut was nothing to write home about and it looked bushy within a week or two.
I just can't say I'm as wow'ed by Angela as others have raved on Yelp! My husband and I are currently looking for new places. I'm not giving up on Yelp! yet! -

I can't wait to come back here in October to get my hair all did for a wedding!
Angela cut and styled my hair. She did a fantastic job for several reasons:
- She was honest with the state of my hair and genuinely concerned in knowing what I wanted
- She carefully and thoroughly explained to me what she suggested I do based off my last hair cut
- Being that this is a full service salon, she gives you the salon treatment. She explains what she is doing to your hair and what type of products she is using, as well as why she's using them
- I appreciated that she was easy to talk to and hospitable. I had a lot of questions and she happily answered all of them.
It's rare that you meet hairstylists who are more than people who cut your hair. Angela seems like the type of person who loves what she does and is eager to learn more about her craft so she can provide better service to her customers.
After laughing when hearing people have gone to this location to fulfill their Burlingame location Groupon, I thought that was silly until I followed Angela to pay for my cut. -Expletive- I did the same thing! But I was so happy with my cut that I paid for this one. I'll figure out what to do with that Groupon later... -

I love my blonde highlights and am always trying to get them lighter and lighter. Not an easy job with my overprocessed, dark Asian hair. My last salon left me with brassy and orange highlights. I think they just stopped being attentive so I had to move on.
I went to Angela based on the other Yelp reviews. She is wonderful. She loves the challenge of new styles and colors and makes you feel so comfortable. She is very attentive. She doesn't just leave you at the sink or forget about you.
Angela really tries to understand what you're looking for. She'll work with you to get it to where you want it to be without damaging your hair. She was honest with me in how blonde my highlights would be without damaging my hair and said we would work on getting them lighter each time. After only 2 visits, I have exactly what I want. I've received tons of compliments and people asking where I got my hair done.
The salon itself is a cute and clean place with friendly people. They offer you wine in addition to water, coffee or tea. You can also change into a black robe so you don't have to worry about what you wear the day of your appointment. It's downtown San Mateo but parking isn't that bad. -

Just moved to the area. Tried the salon for my first time. Ellie did my color (didn't need a cut) and she did a PHENOMENAL job! I love what she did... added more dimension, stayed away from brassy color (not my style), and got rid of the bleached out looking hi-lites. I will be back for sure.

I have been seeing the same hair stylist for 12 years but unfortunately she is 45 mins away. Needless to say I was reluctant to make a change after so long but the travel commitment was just becoming too much.
After doing some research online and reading the reviews here on Yelp on Maison Deux and Ellie I decided to take a chance and make an appointment with her. I was hoping (desperately) that the reviews were accurate and not overinflated...THEY WERE NOT!!
I immediately felt comfortable with her as we discussed my style and need for a change. She had some great ideas and I honestly trusted her in the consultation alone. I let her do her thing.
I have to say I have the best style I have had in years. I walked out of the salon feeling like a million dollars. I have received so many compliments (from strangers and friends alike) I almost feel like I looked like a "hot mess" pre Ellie.
I could not give this salon and specifically Ellie a better rating...the wine was a nice touch too (the assistant even ran out to get some as they were out).
This is a hidden Peninsula gem of a salon, you won't be disappointed. -

Ellie is amazing! I was looking for a new place to try that was close to home. The last place I went was pretty good, but when I told them I was looking for a change they took the really conservative route and didn't change much so I wanted to try somewhere new.
I'm kind of addicted to Yelp, and so with the amazing reviews at Maison Deux I decided to give it a try. Noticing that most of the reviews were raving about Ellie, I called and made an appointment with her.
She understood exactly what I wanted and gave me beautiful caramel highlights. I didn't want really chunky highlights and she gave me beautiful more natural looking highlights that were exactly the change I was looking for. She also was honest with me about my cut - she liked it and said I could hold off on the cut until next time (I had just had my hair cut at the previous salon a month ago and I usually go a few months in between cuts since I have long hair).
I also have a lot of really fine super-straight hair that tangles easily and can be difficult to curl, but she managed to get volume and curls into my hair. I left the salon feeling like a movie star.
I will be back in 10 weeks for a cut and touch up. Thanks Ellie! -

Since moving to the Bay Area 2 years ago, I've searched for a hair stylist who could give me an easy maintenance, great style bob that would continue to be fabulous day to day (see http://www.yelp.com/bi... and http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Well, I think I've found my match!
I went to Ellie after reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp, with high expectations but cautious and ready to be disappointed. Fear not. Ellie is great, listens to what you want, and gives you a great cut to match your needs. She raved about my stick-straight hair, but didn't let that deter her from giving me a cute bob that I can air dry and still have shape and texture. Great clean salon with friendly service, smocks to change into, drinks offered, etc.
$65 pre tip is well worth a trusty lasting stylish haircut! Thanks Ellie!! -

I've been going to Angela for the past year and she's absolutely awesome! I just had my highlights retouched and it turned out gorgeous!
I love my haircut as well! We decided to go the straight flat bang route since I like to get a new look every couple of months. She's very cute and trendy and always has new stylish ideas. If I'm going out she'll even put some curls in my hair!
I love her to death, she's my hairsylist extraordinaire. I visit her every two months for a fresh haircut, style and color. -

I just had returned to San Mateo and went to a salon nearby where I received a terrible cut. I called Maison Deux after reading the Yelp reviews and got an appointment today with Noemi. She was excellent. She listened and redid my hair and I am completely satisfied, in fact thrilled. The salon looks great and the coffee was delicious. I would most certainly return to Noemi.

I had a haircut and coloring done here. I learned that the stylists are all independent contractors who rent their chairs. My stylist, Mimi(?), was technically proficient. But I found her to be overly personal and intrusive with her questions. At one point, she asked me whether my boyfriend and I had ever discussed moving in together in a way that sounded incredulous. The experience made me uncomfortable. Just because I am female does not mean I want to gossip about my love life with someone I just met.

Not what I expected from this salon. Instead of the usual compliments, I had someone tell me that my hair looked *choppy* on one side! Coming from the NY area, I am a tough critic when it comes to hair, but I can honestly say that besides Ellie's friendly personality, I was not happy with the results. Angela has cut my hair three times already and also did a keratin treatment. She does a great job! I received compliments about my hair the same day I left the salon. She is a genuinely nice person and will give honest advice about hair. She is also incredibly patient. During one appointment, I could not find a babysitter for my two-year-old daughter, and brought her in with me to see Angela. My daughter was being a "normal two-year-old" and was moving around, trying to stand on the chair next to me, and exploring the place. Angela was totally understanding, and also entertained my daughter :)
A few months later, I completely forgot about my next appointment with her, and did not show up, but she was understanding. I rescheduled my appointment, and was fifteen minutes late, and yet she was still able to fit me in her schedule. She did my keratin treatment, and it made my hair a lot more smooth and manageable. -

I have found the salon of my dream! I love love Angie!!! She is the best hair stylist ever!! Not only did she listen to what I wanted but she dispel great tips on how to style my hair at home. She also didn't try to push any of the hair products (I did end up getting the Moroccan oil!).
When I found that my bangs were too long, I emailed Angie and she was more than happy to have me come back and cut my bangs to my liking. I can't wait to go back to her for future haircuts!! -

Angela is awesome! She is so sweet and nice. She makes you feel so comfortable while she does your hair and you can have a really good conversation with her.
Angela knows exactly what she is doing when it comes to hair coloring. I haven't gotten a cut yet, but she is a color genius. I love love love my hair. It is the perfect color. She lightened it up perfectly without bleach (and it was more than 2 shades lighter!!!). She knows what she is doing when it comes to coloring your hair and she will explain everything to you as well.
Also, she used Moroccan oil! I heard about it before coming in from youtube videos, but never really felt like going on a hunt for it. She used it and my hair was so soft and silky...it was amazing!
I think that I no longer have to go out on a search for a great hair stylist in San Mateo. I adore Angela and she is fantastic at what she does. I have already scheduled my second appointment! -

Finding this salon was mere luck. I've been searching for a great salon for the longest time and I think I finally found it - And I'm very picky when it comes to hair salons.
Angela is fabulous! She's so nice and actually gives good, honest suggestions when it comes to deciding on a new cut & color. All of the other hairdressers and workers were really great also. I definitely recommend coming here if you've been searching for a new hair salon & stylist. -

Not looking for a new hairdresser, I came across a Groupon deal that I just could not refuse. For a greatly discounted rate, I was able to get that much-needed haircut my tresses were just dying for! Seeing that they had some pretty good reviews here on Yelp, I decided to give them a try.
Not every hairdresser was taking part of the Groupon deal, so when I called I asked who they suggested for someone with very long, thick, and wavy hair. They suggested Marta, and I couldn't have been more pleased.
Upon arrival I thought the place was very warm and friendly, with beautiful art (perhaps local?) adorning the walls. I changed into my smock in the back dressing room and was led to their sinks for a hair wash. Unfortunately, this tens to be my least favorite part, despite how great the scalp massage feels, as my hair is so ridiculously heavy, it makes it very uncomfortable for my poor neck. Once done, she took me back to her station to talk style and length. I happen to be in a "growing" phase with my hair - which is a cyclical thing in my life - and so I just needed some fresh layers that work well with leaving my hair wavy and curly, or if I wanted to blow dry it out.
She figured the cut out quickly, and we got to chatting about all sorts of things.... traveling, fashion, various places to live, hair trends, you know - all the good stuff. Sometimes chit-chatting with a stylist can be a bit painful, but I just loved her! A short while later, my cut was complete and I was very, very happy. My hair felt so much lighter and had the best layering; she kept the length and the style was amazing!
Testing out a new hairdresser is scary, but I can say I will definitely be going back. I am temped to use them for my coloring to see how they do with that task! I have a feeling it will be just as great. -

I recently made the mistake of going to another salon which had been featured on groupon and had the stylist ruin my hair color. I have found my new salon! This is my second time here, both visits being with Ellie. SHE IS AWESOME!! She really knows her sh** when it comes to hair in general. She really listens to what you want yet customizes the cut, style, and color to what best suits your face shape and skin tone... with your permission of course!
I just had a layered trim with highlights and they turned out fabulous! When she saw I was having difficulty picking one color, she offered to use two tones, which in the end blended nicely with my underlying hair color. She was even detailed in the areas she colored, ensuring the longer layers in the back were highlighted to blend well with the top, shorter layers (this was a partial highlight). She even suggested to start the highlights a few strands after my natural hair color around my hairline, which I'm glad she did because this really accentuates the highlights themselves.
This salon offers complementary coffee, tea, or wine (yes, WINE!). It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Give Ellie a call: 415.806.7502. You won't be disappointed :) -

Happy hair!! For years I've been getting my hair done in San Francisco because I couldn't find any one who could cut my hair right. But I just got my hair cut and styled from a knowledgable, kind and helpful professional, Ellie H. She is a God send! I needed someone to treat my hair with the same care and love, I give it! I found that in Ellie. She took time to listen to my worries and made me feel at ease. I LOVE my hair cut! I have happy, bouncy and beautiful hair because Ellie gave it her gracious touch. I moved into the area in January and was so excited to find a clean, up scale salon within walking distance to my house. I called and immediately got an appt with Angela. I asked for someone who was knowledgeable of long, thick wavy hair and was she ever!!! Angela is great at suggesting what would and wouldn't work with my hair. We discussed highlights and although i had not had the best experience with them in the past I decided to give them one more try. And, i am so pleased I did. They turned out looking really natural and not brassy. She was patient and answered my millions of questions without hesitation:)
I have now had 3 haircuts with her and each time I leave the salon feeling pretty and knowing that i got a cut that looks great, is easy to style myself and will be very manageable for me. Cannot recommend Angela enough!!! -

I've been seeing Ellie at Maison Deux (previously at Salon Maison in Burlingame) for about seven months, which equals to about four haircuts and colors for me.
I moved to the Bay area from Seattle last year and was afraid I'd never find another stylist like Becka at Robert Leonard, but Ellie has really exceeded all my expectations.
Simply put, she really listens to you and can give you the amazing cut you've always wanted. Her color always looks great and lasts forever (I have a TON of grays.) I always get comments on my hair!
Best of all, Ellie is super friendly and makes you feel welcome.
One time - I told Ellie that I wanted red highlights. She asked me if I was really sure and even brought out a color book to show me different shades. I said yes and she went for it - but when we were done, I didn't like the red so much. Even though it was my fault, Ellie fixed my hair a week later and didn't even charge me for it. Thanks Ellie! -

Looks like I was once again given the wrong info regarding this place by the ratings I have read. Let me start by giving my take on how I rate any establishments. My ratings are based on location, cleanliness, price, service, product/work. With that said, my overall rating for this hair salon can only be 1 star. Here is why. Location is a busy area where parking is hard to find since it's street parking only. The salon is clean and modern. Price is way too high for the haircut quality. I will elaborate later. Service not all that it's hyped-out to be. Product, which is the haircut, not so good. The ratings for this place based on the yelpers, I went ahead and made an appointment to change the style of my hair. The stylist who cut my hair, according to what I was told, is that she has many years of experience. Unfortunately she did not have enough experience to charge people the price she charges for a haircut. My cut was so bad, she looked as though she needed help in fixing my hair. The stylist was at so many points having difficulty managing my hair. She kept trying to layer/texturizing and still could not figure out as to why my hair would stick-out at a certain way. Now if you have common sense, you would know that everyones hair grows differently and not always in the same direction. So if you are a very good and experienced hair stylists you would know how to cut those types of hair in order for it not to end-up sticking out or sticking up. So at the end my hair just kept getting chopped and more shorter than what I ended to have. When I got home, took a shower, tried to blow dry and style it, I could not believe what had happened. My hair was so chopped up that the left side was longer than the right side. And the back mid and top part of my head was so short, I really didn't know what and how to style my hair. It was just so horrid. I can not even tell anyone out there as to how bad it was. It made me so upset that I cried all night and the next day. I was so mortified by my looks. It's unimaginative. It was a nightmare. That's pretty much all I could say. Now my hair is very thick and somewhat course, so for it to be so badly cut, I couldn't tell you how that happened. My hair ended up feeling so thinned out and just choppy and messed up all over. Not a place I would even recommend to anyone, unless you are my enemy.

This is a real hidden gem of a salon. I just learned of this place via the Yelp reviews of my former salon, Maison in Burlingame. I'd read about all the raves for Ellie and decided to pay her a visit at the last minute. I managed to a get an evening appointment despite them not having seen me before. It was completely worth my time and such a wonderful visit.
Ellie is the STYLIST of all stylists. Just forget about bringing a pic of what you'd like your hair cut or styled. Sure, you can just show her one just for an idea but she will blow the pants off the style in that pic--which is what she did for me. The most gentle, sweetest, friendliest, and patient hairstylist I had ever come across. She used tools, products, and styling methods that no one had ever used on me before and has got me hooked. Her doing hair for 16 years shows in her passionate demeanor (unlike some other stylists I've had in the past who've cut my hair like grass!). Now, this gal has taken me away from my current salon. I found my ultimate stylist. I'm set.
Dont' deprive yourself the high quality and friendliest experience you will have with this lady. She cuts and styles the same as at the high-end salons and at a price that is very affordable. I will most definitely be back: I'm now a customer for life! -

I just got my hair cut by Angela. It always makes me a little nervous to try a new hair stylist but she was FANTASTIC. She was friendly, knew exactly what she was doing, even with my curly hair, and gave me a fantastic blowout. She has an awesome deal where if you check in on facebook she'll give you $10 off for first time customers. My hair looks amazing and I'll definitely be going back!

I've been seeing Ellie for almost two years now, and she has never disappointed :) Ellie is the best colorist I've ever worked with. She's so kind and compassionate, listens to what you want and works with you on color and cut. I would recommend her to anyone! I haven't said that about any hair stylist I've ever been to. The salon is great, with beverages from coffee, tea to wine and really friendly staff.

Silvana has cut my hair twice now. The first time a few months ago she fixed my 'texturized" cut from a previous stylist. She kept the length like I asked and cut it in a managable simple style so I could grow it back out a little bit.
I looked at some photos from this past weekend and realized my hair had grown out so much that I essentially had no style. I had no bangs or layers and it was just kind of laying flat on my head so I called Maison Deux last night and left a message that I'd like to get in to see Silvana if possible during my lunch hour today.
I got a call shortly after they opened this morning and was informed I had an appointment :o)
Silvana cut me some layers with longer side-swept bangs and trimmed just a very tiny bit off the ends. Now my hair has more body and it's such a cute style!
I'm really glad I found a new stylist close to home/work... especially after all the misses from other random salons. After the two cuts I got compliments from my co-workers... one of them actually went in to see Silvana and her cut was a dramatic change from mid-back to just below the ears but she looks awesome. Silvana really knows what she's doing and listens to her clients.

Having just moved to the Bay Area, I've turned to Yelp to help me find almost everything.
I've been to three different salons between Burlingame and San Mateo, and I am glad to say I have found one that I know I will go to regularly.
Maison Salon Deux is a beautiful place. It's brand new, clean, aesthetically pleasing and the music isn't obnoxious so can actually relax.
As soon as I got there, I checked in, was introduced to my stylist and asked if I wanted something to drink. While I had a hot cup of coffee I spoke to Ellie, my stylist, about what I wanted and what she suggested. Ellie is a fabulous stylist, she gave me the haircut I've been waiting for. She listens to what you want and is not scissor happy at all. I would definitely recommend this place and Ellie to anyone who's looking for a great cut and style.
I should also note that they never once tried up-sell or press me to buy any products. I was simply told what products were being used on me and what they did for my hair. They don't accept credit cards or debit cards, so make sure to take cash.
I'm definitely going back. -

Angela did a great job on my haircut! She did exactly what I asked and it looks great. I have been searching for a hairstylist for in the area 4 years and finally found one!
