Loved this place!
Some may complain that the rooms are small, but these people are just typical Americans - this place is normal to world standards! I loved the style, and the bed was HUGE. I really appreciated the champagne as soon as we walked into the hotel.
I hate LA, but this place is exceptional.
We upgraded our room and what we got was NOT what I was expected. We stayed in the Mandrin room. Apparently the only thing that made it Mandarin was a teal, chipped and dusty statue of an Asian guy.
Parking was a rip off and the $250+ a night was a rip off especially since we stayed more than one day. The bed had a MILLION pillows on it but you had to use all 1,000,000 to have decent head support. I was furious.
Front desk staff was friendly, so 2 stars.
This is within feet of Santa Monica Blvd. I took a walk there to see what was around there for food instead of buying food from room service, which my fiance bought while I was out. On my walk a psychic came up to me saying she felt I had a strong energy and that I should go see her. Instead I went to go buy a sandwich from a little restaurant and a mocha from Starbucks. I wish I had stayed at a cheaper hotel closer to Universal Studios.

If I spent more time here, I might have given this 5 stars but I was only here for a few hours this evening.
It's a very quaint hotel that you would miss if you didn't look for it or have the address. It's within walking distance of plenty of places in Beverly Hills.
We were there for happy hour which I think was about 4-7pm. They serve absinthe, which I had never had before. It's $5/glass and totally interesting. Very high proof, tastes like a scotch/mojito mix!
The decor is very nice, the atmosphere is relaxed with candlelight.

This place was okay. The rooms are quite small. Noisy at night from the streets, so can be hard to sleep. The amount of money paid should've covered free wireless internet. My cousin paid for a 24 hr access and it kept dropping for her. The hotel did rectify it the next day but it took a couple of hours. Overall- it's a cute room, but I would prefer to stay at a bigger hotel next time for the price we paid.
Location was good. Parking lot was small- but did not have problems parking. $24 a night! Guests were allowed to park in the lot as well if visiting.
Drain was clogged first night- but they fixed it the next day.

I'm just gonna have to lambast this place because I'm sick and tired of them trying to promote themselves as some slick hipster place.
Ladies and gentlemen, this place is some cramped and dumpy wannabe hotel.
Ok, let me set some facts straight here:
"Located in tony Beverly Hills..."
Yes, they are, but be prepared to swerve off the beaten path and around a corner behind a bush.
"Lavish hotel rooms with Philosophy body care products..."
The products are placed in generic pumps and you have no idea what you are using. Then the front desk tries to tell you that you are using wonderful shampoo. But it smells like fart, I complain. No, no, you must be assured, it's what I told you.
"Hidden bar with an ambience..."
Listen, I'm only 5' 4", but goddam, I fell off the footstool. It's very cramped with only a few tables.
Ladies and gentlemen, don't get me wrong, but I love dive bars. But don't front and try to say you are some exquisite BH Chateau Marmont hopeful when you have a cheap buck running around. Nawwwwwwww

My husband loves this cute boutique hotel right next to the Peninsula. Its interior is split into two different concepts, "Mandarin" and "Parisian". We stayed in a Parisian room.
While the rooms are a bit small for me (hence "boutique" hotel), it does have a great bathroom (with bistro tiles) and amenities (Molton Brown) and everything is super stylish. Clean and well-kept, it is a great deal for what it is, plus, unlike other design hotels it does not have that dark, dull feeling.
The location is also quite convenient, within 10-min walking distance from Rodeo Drive so it is a great place to stay if you can't afford the Peninsulas and Wilshires of the world but want somewhere cute and accessible that is not a Mariott or a Holiday Inn.

I found Maison 140 on Expedia, and researched it on Yelp before deciding that it sounded like the ideal hotel for me. I love little boutique hotels with a lot of character, and that's exactly what the Maison 140 is. It has a European-feel to it. Yes, that means the rooms are quite small, but I didn't mind that. I only really spent my nights there sleeping so the smallness of the place didn't bother me.
Things I liked about the hotel:
1. The location! Located right in Beverly Hills, within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.
2. Friendly staff.
3. The decor! So adorable and eccentric yet classic.
4. The history and feel of the place (it was once the home of silent film star Lillian Gish!).
5. The large king size bed we had which was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on, no lie.
6. The Los Angeles magazines in the room.
7. Instant hot water and good water pressure in the shower.
8. The pool at the Avalon hotel that we get to use. Though I wish the Maison 140 had a pool, the Avalon's is close and very beautiful!
Things I didn't like:
1. $24/night parking fee, though I guess it's like that everywhere at Beverly Hills hotels.
2. $14 continental breakfast (never ate it because that's too much to spend on continental when I could walk over to Nate 'n Al's and get good diner breakfast for cheaper).
3. The carpet in my room had seen better days... It had a 1-foot long rip in it. It needs to be replaced badly.
The good things outnumber the bad, so that's good. Some people complained about the noise, and I must say that I didn't experience any noise problems during my 7-night stay. That could be because I had the air conditioner on every night, so it might have drowned out what little noise there was. But I never heard our neighbors, outside noise, or squeaky floorboards as others have mentioned.
For the price, Maison 140 can't be beat! It's such an adorable little boutique hotel and you get a really unique experience staying here. I would totally stay here again in a heartbeat or at one of its sister hotels like the Avalon!

I am really lucky in that I get to stay at all kinds of cool hotels because of (not for) my job. My boss thinks if we are going to design people's homes and make them truly amazing we need be surrounded by good design for inspiration. I completely agree.
I have gone back and forth about whether or not to review the hotels I stay in because of my background. I might be more discerning about the design and what not than your average patron. The reason I decided to start reviewing them is because I had a pretty cool experience at Maison 140. Five minutes after I got into my room I realized I had a couple of hours to kill. I am embarrassed to say that sometimes I kill time by getting manicures, but there it is. I called Fiona at the front desk to ask her if there were any Fancy Nail Clubs or the like, within walking distance. She said yes and asked me to stop by the front desk on my way out. By the time I got down there she had printed maps to two nail places and had called them to make sure they were opened and accepted walk-ins! I would review the salon but I don't feel like writing anything negative tonight.
The design was great conceptually but I could tell they didn't want to shell out the big bucks. Very hip and not too trendy.
I would stay here again, as long as I'm not paying.

A beautifully antiquated luxury hotel with about 40 rooms. The ambiance is like no other - classic yet modern, and reserved yet intimate, all at the same time. Its location is perfect, too, especially for those aspiring to walk to Rodeo Drive.
The guest rooms come with standard amenities, including internet access, safe, bar, etc, and the guests are allowed to go to the nearby Avalon hotel to use its gym facilities. There's a prepaid self-parking lot on the side, though temporary street parking is a feasible option.
They're also famous for its bar - Bar Noir - which is the reason why this place gets packed and rowdy at nighttime. During the day, however, we hardly met anyone in the building...which effectively made the dark, black-walled hallway seem spookier!

This is a very artsy homey hotel with expensive parking..expected i guess...beverly hills?! anyway...
Beautiful decor inside, with a small bar and lounge area where you can eat breakfast that they provide in the morning. Rooms are decorated in different styles. I stayed in the Parisian room, cute decor. Small rooms, but very clean, simple chic decor, and nice bed, comfortable, down comforter. Quiet, relaxing, homey, i like it =)
Breakfast was ok, cool fresh yogurt, fresh fruits, not so good croissants, but good coffee.
The staff is intimidating at night (maybe they are bored)
The staff is super friendly in the morning. =)
So here is the thing, and call me persnickety if you want, but when someone says "here is the total cost" I expect that will be the total cost. The folks at Maison 140 don't share that belief evidently, since they never mention the additional $24 required daily parking fee that you get hit with ONCE YOU SHOW UP. Nice, eh?
Oh sure, if you are staying in this sort of hotel $24 won't break you but that isn't the point. The point is that they lied about the cost - which is crappy. Not to mention wrong.
Now - about the hotel.... Frankly, the whole thing felt forced. Maison is not a boutique hotel. It is a small, somewhat noisy motel with a pretty good location with lots of black paint in the hallways. No views to speak of unless you consider being able to see your car lounging in the $24 you paid to park in the lot right below your window a view.
The bed, at least in our room, was super comfortable.
The organic breakfast = Brea rolls (I saw them unpacking them from the Brea bag) and some OJ.
Way over priced for what you get, so either dig a little deeper and stay someplace with better reviews or go cheap and name-brand and save your money for dinner, or to rent a Ferrari like everyone else.
the hotel is quaint, but for the price, its not worth it. even though we had the "premium"room, THE EFFEN ROOM WAS WAY TOO SMALL. i think that this hotel is way too pretentious, and is trying to be something its not!
the customer service was okay, and room service was sub-par, thus this calls for 3 stars!

I've never stayed here, but the bar is okay. It's fine for meeting 1 friends, but otherwise, it's just a little small - not good for groups - and the drinks are very pricey, even by LA standards... also, It's a very trendy style that I've just seen too much of already to be very excited about.

I stayed here during a house hunting trip and I liked it! I got a fair, not great, deal on a room. The decor is tres tres chic but the whole place is just so so small. Personally, I wish that they had cut the number of rooms in half, charged more, and had a more spacious space. But for me, the location at the time could not be beat.

Stayed here the first week of October and for the price, it's a great spot. Room was small, but very nicely appointed and totally unique, just as a good boutique hotel should be. Price seems very fair when you consider a seriously good complimentary breakfast in the AM (not to mention the comfy lounge where you can sit for a couple hours enjoying your individual french press coffee). They also have a nice happy hour every night from 5-7, wine is complimentary for guests. We felt very comfortable, totally taken care of and will remember our stay here for sure.

I give this a four start bc they did 50's style and french feel quite well in L.A. hOwever I think L.A. is best known and should stick to the modern luxury styles the rest of the hotels offer. Either way, I have to agree with some of the posts. The rooms are super small. But I found it cute and different especially since I'm so used to the big, spacious rooms we always stay it. It was just the experience I loved. It's small and quaint. The floors you can tell are old, some places they squeak like old home. The bathroom doesn't have that much space so when my husband and I were trying to get ready it was hard to share the bathroom mirror and not much shelves to put hair dryer or makeup etc.. so the window sill was what i used. I liked the windows bc it was old school window, not tons of protection and safety walls and windows that most hotels build as if we'll fall out! So it was stuck to the old style. The service was nice. I don't think the concierge gave good recommendations for breakfast, we went to two of the places and they were too touristy, we went to the one we always go to and knew the area better it seemed. Anyways, I thought this place to be european. I felt like I was in a cute small hotel in France somewhere.
