The sign say Pottery Plants and Things... I like the and Things part, because that is exactly what is inside. Random things! Nick knacks, frames, clothing, furniture, gift bags + a million mesh bags for small gifts in more colors you knew existed! Stuff you don't quite expect... like every design of Crocs ever.

I like the selection of random stuff and I think everything is pretty well priced. I feel comfortable wandering around for a while just browsing and not getting heckled to buy crap I don't need.

like some of the pots that are there. but i totally agree with other yelp folks. yeah it is crowded and dusty.. not a great selection of plants. can find some oddities there. and parking really sucks. they totally need to pave. i lived in the area for over 20 years, mom lived there for over 50. dont think they ever paved the area..even before when it was a market...sheesh i am dating myself.. remember pax market all you old timers?

I used to go to Mainly Seconds a lot about 20 years ago, but last week when I went there I was disappointed.  The plants were overpriced for what they were, there wasn't much selection, and it was dirty and disorganized.  Out around the clay pot area there was a pile of trash in the walkway, a big pot blocking your path so you could only go one way, and stacks and stacks of pallets for God knows what.  Inside, the middle-eastern cloth and paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling looked like they'd been there filthy forever and the potting table in the corner was a disaster.  Having once owned a store myself, I was struck by how careless they were in the store's appearance and their general lack of customer service skills was the cherry on the top of my little shopping trip.  Oh, and I bought these cute little Joe Boxer shoes only to get home and find both were right feet and each was a wrong size...so check your packages to make sure they didn't mix things up.

Do you need a pot?

Note, I said a pot, not pot, for all of you stoners who just got really excited ;) If you need a pot, or any kind of garden accoutrement then check this place out. They have a little bit of everything, including a great selection of fresh herbs that will adorn the finest of kitchen sills, plus little statues and hanging plants that will add that Three's Company element to your humble abode.

They are also very nice here and the prices are reasonable, so before you head to the big guys for your garden needs, try this little store out first and help support the little guy :)

I've been to Jackaloupe pottery on Burbank, and I was disappointed at their service, selection and prices. So I drove down here, to Mainly Seconds and was very relieved.  Lots of small to medium sized pots for a very good price, between 2.99-5.99.   Even when I had to return something they greeted me with a smile.  If I had a larger garden, I would definetly go back to purchase bromeliads and such.

When I'm looking for houseplants, garden furnishings and pottery, then I think of Mainly Seconds. The best way to envision this place is  If you cross pollinate a Tuesday Morning with a florist.

Mainly seconds is actually a small chain of stores. They have one location in LA County which is in NoHo and the other 4 or 5 locations are in OC. Naturally, I've been to almost all of them. I've been going to these stores since I lived near one when I lived in OC in the 90's.

I can easily waste a lot of money here buying garden related stuff I really don't need but love to have in my garden, office, or apartment. My philosophy is if I can't be in my garden, then I'll bring the garden to where I live or work.

I don't know why they are called Mainly seconds, since none of their items are second hand. It must be some obscure reference I am unfamiliar with. Whatever the case, if you need nice looking pottery at a modest price, Mainly seconds is the second best bet in the Valley after Reseda Discount Pottery.

I went here last weekend and wasted about $90 on garden items and plants. They had a 30% sale on some ceramics I just had to have in my new office. It was worth the money though since all my co-workers are raving how my office now resembles a garden including a cute bird bath dish that no bird will ever be ale to use.

They have adequate parking.

I live 4 blocks from here and rarely go. To answer the other reviewers question, I think it's called mainly seconds, because they used to carry lots of "seconds"....buy out products that other stores couldn't sell. They used to carry a lot more paper goods, paper plate, napkins, decorations, etc. Now it seems highly geared to gardening supplies and gifty items.  They have some nice stuff, some nice looking plants, I just never think the prices are all that great. For a larger selection of pots, I would recommend Jackaloupe Pottery where they have a much larger selection of everything.

The staff at Mainly Seconds never seems very friendly. I've never been greeted on my way in or out or during a shopping experience.

I love this store because it's a mom and pop and would rather shop there than a chain. There is a woman who's always there (can't remember her name...) who is really knowledgeable about plants and has helped me out more than once. And she even gave my daughter a flowering plant b/c she thought she was cute! I love shopping local!!

my ficus tree is so much happier now that it's been replanted into this great ceramic pot that we purchased here.  the selection is good, though not much for large orchids.  i will have to come by and look another time to see if this changes.

the store is filled with odds and ends: furniture, fake plants, gift wrapping, sea glass.  it kind of reminds me of what pier one used to look like 15 years ago.  there is also a wide selection of wind chimes here, which were extensively tested by someone's children while we were here.
as i was leaving, i saw a sign in there stating they will re-pot any plant into a pot that was purchased at that store.  a neat service for those who are very busy and don't want to do it themselves.

Terracotta pots, plants (live and pretend), candles, cards, wrapping paper, fountains, picture frames, decorative mirrors, Crocs...and oh yeah, a big live parrot in the front at the cash register.  This place is a bit of a throw back to the 70's where you feel you might find the perfect macrame wall hanging for your family room, but it's a fun place to explore.  Things are relatively reasonably priced - and at the holidays, no matter what house of worship you pay your respects at, you'll find your peeps pagan decorations available a plenty at Mainly Seconds.  Service can be spotty, but generally the staff is very nice, if not quick to respond.  There's a small parking lot out front, and in case those few spots are taken, there's plenty of street parking on Magnolia and the surrounding side streets.

I don't get all the fuse over this place. After listening for months to my co-workers rave about this place, another co-worker and I finally made the huge trek (less then a block away ) after work this week. We were both baffled. What's so amazing about this place? It smelled like potting soil, the pots and dishes weren't great finds, and even the knick kacks were over priced. Mind you we both live in Burbank where I have my own beloved plant store, but are the pickings that slim in the plant department for north hollywood that this place is considered top notch? I hope not..but if you're willing to fork out $30 bucks for a plant you can find else were for 15, I highly second the suggestion made by eric a. to go to Jackajoupe Pottery, which has a much broader "selection of everything." Aside from the lack of interesting wares, the staff wasn't interested in any of their customers, at least from what I experienced...I had to follow a clerk half way around the store before he acknowledged me, and the girl at the counter couldn't return neither the hello and good evening I offered her. I'm glad I have my plant store in burbank, cause this place leaves much to be desired.
