I got there 2 minutes before closing.  The 3 gentlemen never made me feel rushed and I got my keys quickly - and they worked (not always so with other places I have visited)!!!!

They even took the time to help me with directions to the next place I needed to visit.

Needed 3 keys done, cost me less than 9 USD, and the guy even thought to make the two keys that look annoyingly similar from different color metals, so that it's easier to tell them apart.

All in all: service was friendly and quick! Thank you!!!

Larry and Mainline Security are the best! They were quick to my rescue when I locked myself out of my home, as I was leaving for work before 8 a.m.
Larry was prompt, very courteous and just a nice guy.  :)
Thanks so very, very, very much for getting me out of an early morning mess!

I own a production company and over time we've grown in our building.  We've taken over space here and there and consequently, being there at that building for almost twenty years, our expansion resembles the Winchester Mystery House.  There are hallways and rooms in awkward configuration and it's just a general mess.

And in all this, we've always gone to Mainline Security to update our keys, they're professional about their service and above all, their keys work.  Over and over again, they've been reliable.

    I totally endorse these guys.

11 am and I locked myself out of my office while running to feed the meter between appts - one of those days. With another appt looming at 12pm, I thought for sure I'd have to cancel.

I called Mainline and they said someone would call back immediately.  I was dubious, but sure enough, Ron called back in a couple of minutes and said that someone could come in 15-20 minutes!

Sure enough the nicest guy (Larry) arrived, opened the door in a flash, and all with time to spare.

Service in 35 minutes in the middle of SF - thanks Mainline!

    Whistle while you work!

Every one here is really nice, efficient and just down to earth.  They even said if the key doesn't work b/c sometimes that happens, feel free to come back and we'll repair for you.  Super nice and no attitude.

    Need keys?

Me too and luckily for me, this place is here and awesome. I popped in here today at lunch to get a set of keys made for a friend and we were in and out of here in 2 minutes flat. The guys couldn't have been any nicer and the price was totally reasonable. I will definitely be coming back here next time I misplace the keys to my handcuffs.

    Wait, what?

I've been in here a couple times for key duplication and they've been great. But I've had a less than stellar experience with their service guy.

I called a while ago to get my spinning bolt fixed and it took them over a day to call back and by then I was too busy to deal. Finally today I had some more time and I tried again, service guy was gruff on the phone. He was too busy to help me out and told me to call someone else. Not horrible, but I wasn't left feeling good about the series of interactions.

I'll continue to use them for keys, but will go elsewhere for the on site stuff.

I sent my favorite Washingtonian here to have a couple of keys cut.

    Per his comments: quick, efficient.
What else do you need, right?

A big plus, THE KEYS WORK (which, sadly, has not always been the case with other key cutters in the vicinity.)

Gold standard for how to copy keys is right here at Mainline Security.  I walked in during my lunch hour, plopped the originals on the counter and had 4 new keys made in 30 seconds.  I was charged a fair $10.85 for all 4 and free to spend all 59 of the other minutes of my "lunch hour" lunching and enjoying the sunshine.

    Perfect, friendly service.

"Holy atomic pile, Batman!"  Before I could even say it, they had me a duplicate of my house key.  The staff was quick, nice, and well-priced.

*The above quote is one of many wonderful sayings by Robin.  I also considered:

    "Holy haberdashery, Batman!"
"Holy priceless collection of Etruscan snoods!"

Making keys is a pain in the arse.  Everyone knows it, but its just one of those things that sometimes some people have to do.  And having just moved, I was one of those people.

It took about a week to actually attempt venturing to a key cutter, and they were closed ten minutes before we got there.  Further discouragement.

Finally, more than two weeks after receiving the original single set of keys, my roommate and I made a lunchtime trip to Mainline Security, where we suddenly found ourselves $14.75 poorer and five keys richer.  Oh boy!

The whole process took about five or ten minutes, in which time we muddled around the key rings and played with the auto-retracting key tether.  Jeff L. bought me a aqua-marine rubber key nubber.  It was a well-spent 10 minutes.

After we left, the general mood was, "Oh, well that was easy."  And it was.

    The End.

Above and beyond service, period. Installer was a psuedo handyman and even fixed the sticky door into which a new deadbolt was installed.

They also responded immediately to an emergency rekey for our building within hours.

    Thanks Mainline!

This is both a positive review for Mainline Security and a negative review for OnGuard bicycle locks.

I have a new bike and made the mistake of selecting an OnGuard Bulldog ATB 5011 U-Lock (instead of, say, a Kryptonite).

After locking my bike to a bike rack in front of the 24 Hour Fitness in Potrero Center, I came out after my workout and attempted to unlock it. No go. The key turned 90 degrees, but no further.

I tried for 20 minutes, to no avail. I then went to my office across the street and returned to the bike rack two more times during the day, heeding advice I had read on http://Amazon.com and from OnGuard itself (I spoke with customer service).

"Tap it with a hammer," "Tap while turning the key," "Push the lock back the other way" -- nothing worked.

Another gym member told me his bike was stolen from that bike rack just yesterday, so I did not want to leave the bike overnight while I figured out what to do next.

I called Mainline Security. Terry sent John over, and John showed up 15 minutes later. He took a look, plugged his electric saw into his truck and went to work.

Ten minutes later, the bike was free and I was stuck with the corpse of an inferior bike lock.

Mainline charged me $103 for the service, which I was happy to pay because OnGuard said it would reimburse me up to $100 and because of my fear of leaving the bike there overnight.

    Three lessons:

    1. Don't use an OnGuard bike lock.
    2. Be careful parking your bike in front of the Potrero Center 24 Hour Fitness.
    3. Mainline Security rocks!

These guys are awesome. They're very nice whenever I come in (which is a lot of occasions as of late since I needed to duplicate like 30 keys), and were very accommodating with my needs of looking up and duplicating a key to a cabinet that I had accidentally locked for which I did not have a key. Whoops. Also, in my haste running back and forth from Mainline Security to work, I must've dropped one of the keys I got duplicated on the street somewhere. Stupid, stupid, stupid! But guess what? They very kindly duplicated it for me for free, and also gave me the little green rubber key-covering thing gratis for my stringent rainbow color coding purposes.

In other words, they're idiot proof! That's good news for me, I think.

I'ma keep coming back to them even though there are other places nearer my work that I could go to get keys duplicated. Mainline Security is a definite Win. NICE, I LIKE!

Mainline moved from 2nd to 7th and I love the new location. If you are looking for a place that is reliable, fast, decently priced and willing to go above and beyond in service look no further.  I work for a residential building and not only do we use mainline for all of our lock needs we recommend them to our residents as well.
I could go on and on- these guys are truly great at what they do!

The only locksmiths that I will ever go to for anything ever again.

Perhaps my newfound passion for their services is due to the fact that they actually did it right.  I wanted duplicate keys for my apartment.  This can be such an easy process if you go to Mainline Security.  Unfortunately for me, I went somewhere else first.  Cole Fox Hardware on 4th and Mission-ish.  I won't get into the service or professionalism that I witnessed there.  I will only say that I waited 20 minutes to spend $3.98 on 4 keys, none of which worked.  At Mainline I was helped immediately and spent $10.85 on the same 4 keys...all of which worked.  Personally I think the $7 extra was worth it!

Now do I bother wasting another 20 minutes of my life to return the bad keys?

Went here for copies of my motorcycle key. It can be tricky to get bike keys cut, but not so here. FWIW Yelpers the bike is a 2008 CBR600, and I think they have blanks for most other modern bikes.

Keys worked great first time, service was very friendly, and they told me I could get a full refund if the keys didn't work.

Can't ask for better than that!

I got a new place and would like to re-key my unit door.  The condo HOA manager suggested mainline security.  I called the place and the guy answered the phone was very nice to explain how did the re-key work.  I made an appointment for the next day.  2 guys came over to replaced the mail box key, and re-keyed my unit door.  It only took about 20 min.  The cost was also lower than originally estimated.  The service was indeed great as the HOA manager suggested.

The quality of service and products and mainline security is superb. I worked with Terry to order some home safes for one of my clients, and he was Incredibly thorough.  We were definitely not the easiest clients, and I appreciated how patient and helpful he was. The delivery crew was extremely professional and very careful when delivering the safes to my client's home. Everyone on their team is customer service oriented and I will be bringing all of my clients to them for their security needs!

The staff at Mainline Security was super friendly and prompt. I accidently broke a key in half while opening my front door. In 15 minutes, they were able to take apart the lock, pull out the shreds of my old key, and generate brand new keys (that work much better than my originals did). I'd highly recommend these guys for your locksmithing needs in SOMA/FIDI area.

I own a rental unit and needed to have a locksmith check out the front door lock as there were complaints that it was not working properly.  I called them and the locksmith arrived on time, checked the lock and said it was ok.  He took the time to also show me how to tighten it myself in case it came loose.  He said all i needed was some lubricant for the lock. He did not charge me for the service call.  I will definitely call this company again if I do ever need their services.  Fast, friendly, and fair.

I went here to get some copies of my motorcycle key.  I brought with me a list of all of the key blanks that would work, since not all locksmiths have a lot of experience with motorcycle keys.  I showed it to the guy at the counter, but he didn't want to look at it; he said he wouldn't need it.  He then made copies of my key using blanks that were not in my list.

They didn't work, so I brought them back and asked if he was sure he didn't want to see my list; again he said he didn't need it.  He did something to the copies and I went and tried them again; still no dice.

When I brought them back again, they gave me a full refund.

I was looking for a couple months to find a locksmith to source and install a specialized thin deadbolt into an exterior french door. I tried numerous locksmiths, and also went in person to Don's Lock and Key, but none of them felt they could pull this off. Don's was a bit tiring, telling me to send my contractor back and see what he could figure out, and piling lock after lock on top of the counter to see if I could figure it out. By chance my wife and I were walking by Mainline Security on 7th and I popped in and explained my problem. They thought they could pull it off, then pro-actively called me the next day with a proposed solution (a special thin mortise deadbolt) and offered to send over one of their guys for an estimate. He susses the situation clearly, and Mainline gave me a firm, reasonable quote for the specialized work and specialized part. They continued to proactively call to schedule the work, and came today, completed it on time and a beautiful job. I can't recommend these guys highly enough - extremely professional, kind, patient, and knowledgeable.

very useful lil spot. the guys that work here are super nice and will bang out your keys fairly quickly. our office wanted to get some keys for a file cabinet we bought off Craig's List and Mainline made them in ten minutes with only the information on the lock! the file cabinet keys were a bit expensive ($10 for the 1st, $3.25 thereafter), but copying is MUCH cheaper ($2) and their guarantee makes it worthwhile. they also have a good selection of key rings and locks for every purpose.

Easy as pie, just walked in, got 2 keys made in about 2 minutes for $5.48.  They even gave me different 'backgrounds' on the keys as they were for different doors, but the originals looked the same so were hard to tell apart, and I didn't even have to ask.
