There's more to Maine-ly New Hampshire than you think.  Sure, it's a great place for tourists to pick up all that stuff that tourists like to buy, but look a little closer.  They do gift baskets and gifts for weddings.  Portsmouth has become a popular place to go for "destination weddings" in the last few years, and this business is in the right place at the right time.

This store is also important if you're a local.  One of the city officials owns the store (this is good - we want our city officials to have some skin in the game) and it's a good place for locals to make their opinions known and find out what's going on.  Local political discussions are not uncommon here and I've noticed that the tourists love get a little local insight.  I'm giving them a fifth star because I can't think any way of making this multi-dimensional store any better.

Upon first inspection, this kind of looks like every other kitschy touristy provisions store in any small town. Local flags grace the walls, lots of maple syrup and wine and t-shirts are spread on various shelves. You might want to walk out. But don't-- look closer!

The stuff here isn't stuff you're going to find anywhere else. The whoopie pies are exclusive to this shop and can be brought in custom if desired-- they are the owner's favorite recipe (she explained how they are how her family made them when she was a kid). It was clear within a few minutes that the two owners are passionate about the goods they stock-- these aren't random bits of kitsch, they are great quality local goods.

I ended up making an appointment to meet with Deborah (one half of the Owners team) about doing the gift baskets for our wedding. Within minutes we were discussing our lives and passions. Clearly, this isn't just a day job for her. When the whoopie pie woman came in, she insisted that we try a whoopie pie. And then two locally made starfish chocolates that she has custom made for her shop. And then some delicious maple caramel corn (which seriously should come in jumbo bags because I would eat it all). We also got water, cheese, and chocolate rocks out of the deal. We picked our perfect gift bag combination and they came in right at our budget-- she wasn't trying to sell us more than we wanted or more than we could afford.

If you're in town and want to bring back some Seacoast goods for your friends, don't miss the lobster wine, caramel corn, and whoopie pies.

Totally the best flavors of Kettle Corn anywhere!  My husband wants them to package it in 5 gallon pails.  Have heard many lovely comments from bridal parties about their services as well.

This is a very nice store in downtown Portsmouth.  The owners offer free wine tastings of the local wines.  We enjoyed chatting with them and we bought some delicious cranberry wine!
