I love coming here, grabbing a cup of coffee, and doing some work on my laptop while waiting for friends.

You can't beat their free wireless, and they have soy milk to make me soy milk lattes! YAY! Also some good pastries, and a great selection of books to peruse through. SO bummed that the "Uptown Cafe" closed last year, but Maine Coast Book Shop satisfies my sandwich and coffee craving I still have when in mid-coast Maine.

Awful they really only seem to want locals here so let them have it - pass on this place. the coffee products aren't that good and there is always a low life looking bunch of people hanging out that you have to step over and almost push through to get in and out of the place.

Just walk on down the street, there is a nice friendly clean coffee cafe - with AMAZING stuff. With a much nicer atmosphere.

I used to go in all the time when in town or passing through - but it really has declined in the last year or two - I hope this is not a trend for Damariscotta. I recently I tried to stop in and get an iced coffee - but there was a group of losers hanging out blocking the doorway they smelled of booze and old cigarettes -really nasty. I felt like I was in the Port authority bus terminal in NYC rather than Main street Damariscotta! Why encourage that in your town -- really the change is very noticeable. I notice a lot of low life looking people in the parking lot area too? What is up with that?

During my ten day stay in Damariscotta this Christmas holiday, I spent much of my time at the Maine Coast Book Store & Cafe. It is the one place in my "hometown" general area (my actual hometown is barely a town and only got a post office in more recent years) that offers good coffee and tea, bagels, and culture via books, books, and more books. And some magazines. They have a great Maine authors/Maine themed books section and often have author signings and readings during the summer. The children's/ young readers section is a sure rival to Porter Square Books or even (dare I say!) Barefoot Books in Cambridge. And to boot: the people who work here are very, very nice and always helpful.

This place is a complete and absolute gem!

A gem of a bookstore, with knowledgeable help, good selection and a great coffee shop with (weather permitting) outdoor seating for a few. You can get a really good, reasonably priced sandwich or pastry here, too. This is a classic community bookstore, located on the main drag of downtown Damariscotta, close to shopping, restaurants & sightseeing. Update: they've added a live cam view of downtown Damariscotta at http://www.mainecoastb...
It's also the website for the place.
