Main Event catered our wedding reception, and I can't say enough good things about them! We worked with Rachael, who did a fantastic job coordinating everything. I gave a vague description of the type of food I liked (Californian-style food with lots of fresh ingredients, and also some French-inspired food) and she came back with a few mouthwatering menu ideas. Seriously mouthwatering. We were actually about to book with another caterer until we found Main Event, and their menu ideas just won us over!
Main event provided the tables, chairs, and all the equipment, and Rachael did a wonderful job helping us think through all the details. It was the first wedding I was so involved in planning, but whenever the decisions started to seem overwhelming, Rachael did a great job of giving us her honest advice, on everything from quantity of food to serve, size of the tables, types of chairs to use, centerpieces, etc. They even helped coordinate with the cake provider (and the cake was amazing!). Oh, and we wanted to serve our own wine, and Main Event has no corkage fee--whoohoo!
We were very pleased with Main Event even before the actual wedding, but on the Big Day, I have to say they even surpassed our expectations. Seriously, we were blown away. The service was amazing, with the staff doing a great job of setting up quickly, being attentive to our needs, keeping things on schedule without seeming pushy. I hired Main Event Caterers to help us with a fundraising event. Our representative was incredibly thoughtful and flexible in helping us design the food/service component of the night and the team who helped us with the event that night did an absolutely flawless job. Oh, and did I mention that the food was delicious?!? Yum.

Main Event is not just a caterer but truly an event company. Our coordinators, Spencer and Meg, were fantastic from the get go. Spencer was very enthusiastic about making our wedding the best it could be. He helped us choose just the right look and was also very helpful in creating the perfect menu. I always have very low expectations for food at weddings but we could not have been happier with how delicious the food turned out! One guest actually told me she wants to get married/have another wedding just so she can hire Main Event to caterer her wedding! The servers with top notch and could not have made us and all of our guests feel more special. Main Event gets an A++ from us!

Main Event catered my wedding reception and morning-after brunch.
We initially worked with a Main Event event designer who left the company a few months after I began working with her. No worries - we were given to Spencer and his assistant Meg, with a seamless transition. From the beginning, Main Event was EXCITED about my wedding menu, and worked with my fiance and me through several iterations of it until we finally decided what we wanted. The tasting blew me away and sealed the deal. We also got our wedding cake through Main Event - we gave them two flavor ideas, and they gave us a cake that exceeded our expectations. Through the entire process, the chef was very accommodating to our special requests; and Spencer and Meg were available to answer all of our questions - and helped us design an amazing/memorable gastronomic experience for our big day. We wanted our guests to be blown away, and they were!
As for the morning-after brunch, which we held at our home as an open house, the food was equally delicious. Spencer came over, figured out a way to arrange our tiny living room and porch in the best way in no more than 60 seconds, sent two absolutely amazing staff members to help us and even came over to help oversee setup at 8 am. We didn't have to lift a finger, which is what we wanted.

I worked with Spencer (and towards the end, Meg) at Main Events for my September wedding. From the outset, Spencer was a pleasure to work with. He was the first to respond to the inquiry I sent out to several companies, and one of the few who didn't act like he was doing me a huge favor by catering our wedding.
My initial interactions with Spencer and the tasting party were what sealed the deal for us. Planning with Spencer was a breeze, he was very accomodating and flexible if/when I changed my mind. Our guests raved about the food, and at the end of the night the staff packed up some to-go boxes of cake and hors d oeuvres for us to enjoy later.
We met Meg at our walk-through the month before the wedding, and she was very sweet and helpful with our last minute guest changes.

10/16/2011 Main Event (MEC) catered our daughter's wedding at River Farm in Alexandria and they were outstanding in every way. The process with Rachael and her staff was smooth leading up the the event date, with both support and suggestions along the way, all of which turned out to be good advice.
Food was very important, as we wanted California healthly with lots of veggies, but also some meat and potatoes. The chef WOWed the vegetarians as well as the traditionalists...it was simply delicious. Of note, when we wondered if we should order more dishes, MEC did not try to over sell us. In fact they assured there would be plenty of food...and there was. The young men enjoyed several helping and declared themselves too full for more at the end of dinner, and the vegetarian crowd commented that they had rarely been fed so well. (The chef may have, in fact, converted a few carnivores to the veggie side!)
To add to this, the service was outstanding in every way. In fact we were blown away by the detail, and by the fact that EVERY staff member was as attentive as the next. The bride and groom received special attention, but so did every guest in the crowd of 90ish.
Fancy Cakes by Leslie was the coordinating vendor recommended, and Leslie was the gold standard. She worked with the bride for a special motif and delivered a gorgeous cake was was totally yummy.
Our budget was not big, and that was never an issue: they worked with it and outlined what they could do. The results were sumptuous.
This event was a once in a life time. God blessed us with beautiful weather; River Farm with a beautiful setting: we were so glad we decided to trust MEC with the rest of the details. Love them ! if you're ever planning any kind of even come here they're environmentally conscious without sacrificing any quality whatsoever. Food is amazing especially this raw vegetarian lasagna which was very filling and not like anything I'v had before. You can tell everyone that works here really cares and isn't afraid to go above and beyond for you.

I cannot say enough great things about Main Event Caterers and our event designer Michelle Fishman! Our wedding last night was absolutely perfect in every way, largely because of Michelle and Main Event. We had so many guests come up to us and rave about the food - literally everyone said the food was amazing - but even more than that was the incredible service and piece of mind that Michelle gave us.
From the moment we met, I immediately felt comfortable with Michelle and knew that Main Event was a perfect fit for us. The great reputation and commitment to the environment drew me to Main Event but I chose them because of the service. I loved that instead of just sending us a standard menu, Michelle took the time to interview me about our tastes and create menus that were exactly what we wanted. The food was amazing - garam masala lamb chops, Andalusian gazpacho, incredible halibut with crispy leeks, Argentine steak with chimmichuri...and the best of all, cookie ice cream sandwiches (to name a few). Their menus were beautifully customized, reasonably priced and everything was delicious!
Michelle anticipated our every need and managed a beautiful, seamless event. Walking in, the room looked gorgeous and was set up exactly how we envisioned. Even with more than 250 guests, she effortlessly handled schedule delays and made the entire evening run perfectly. From beginning to end, it was everything we could have wanted and we are so grateful to Michelle and her team for making this possible.

Husband and I decided to "elope locally" in part because the idea of planning a big wedding gave us hives. But when we started telling friends and family we'd gotten married -- suh-priiiiise! -- some kinda got their noses out of joint. "Why didn't you tell us?" "We would have loved to have been there!" "No friggin' way, we thought you'd die still living in sin." You know, the usual reactions.
So, to please everyone, we decided to throw a fête. Yes, a reception without the wedding. Everyone wins, really, cuz let's face it: the reception's the best part about weddings anyway. I don't know anything about fancy shindigs, however, so here's where I give a major Yelp-out to Julie M.: with her wealth of wedding-planner-extraordinaire savvy, she graciously pointed me in some good directions by recommending a couple caterers we could use for our soirée.
Once we began communicating with Main Event, tho, we were sold. Their customer service was top-notch from start-to-finish over the month or so that we were planning the party. We dealt directly with Event Designer Andrea Falletti, who could not have been more helpful, communicative, patient, or professional. She guided us through the process of selecting our menu and planning out the party down to the finest detail.
And our guests were blown away by the food Main Event provided. We noshed on offerings like various panini with gourmet fillings; a Mediterranean spread of pita, falafel, tzatziki, hummus, and baba; adorable crudité in shot glasses with pesto; sticky rice with roasted red pepper spread; and international cheeses...everything was fresh and flavorful, impeccably presented, and absolutely delicious.
We were also thoroughly wowed by how friendly, pleasant, and efficient the staff were: the buffet spread never dwindled, alcohol circulated on silver trays, empty plates were swiftly removed. The Main Event staff were completely unobtrusive, yet they still kept everything running like a well-oiled machine.
I would use Main Event again in a heartbeat. The whole experience of working with them was a complete pleasure, and their presence definitely made the party a raging success.
**Major bonus points for the biodegradable, bamboo plates and biodegradable, cornstarch utensils -- which Main Event collects and composts for you!** -

I am in the middle of planning my wedding, and I can't say enough good things about Spencer at Main Events Caterers! He was the fastest person from a catering company to respond to my initial email and he was flexible about meeting with me and my fiance. I will come back and update the review after we eat the food!

I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical. Raw, vegan lunch? Even for a free lunch I wasn't certain how it would end up, so I packed a sandwich. After eating lunch though, I have to say, that sandwich is going into the trash!
The menu was exquisitely planned, from watermelon sashimi to raw vegan lasagna. The flavors coordinated well with each other, and the food was so fresh, it practically leaped into my mouth.
I definitely did not feel like the meal was lacking anything, and I hardly noticed that there was no meat.

Spencer and the entire staff at Main Event Caterers made planning for my July wedding a breeze! I was planning my Fairfax wedding from the West Coast, but Spencer was more than willing to communicate via telephone and email and meet face-to-face with my mom. In fact, my sister stood in for me at the tasting with my mom since I was unable to attend. Throughout the whole process Main Event was incredibly flexible regarding this situation.
We had very few decorations at the reception hall, so the food presentation and table setup were the primary focus. I felt 100% comfortable giving Spencer creative control to make the space look simple, but elegant -- and his team pulled it off beautifully.
Throughout the evening, I felt as if I had my own personal waiter who would help me get in and out of my seat (not an easy feat in a wedding gown when everyone is clinking their glasses to see the bride and groom kiss!) and periodically checking in to see if I needed more food or drink.
The food was amazing and perfectly altered to meet my picky tastes. Once we had picked out the general type of food we wanted and one or two specific dishes, the chef was able to suggest side dishes that would pair well with our choices. We received (and are still receiving!) so many compliments on the food.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend their services to any bride, especially one overwhelmed with putting together all the details of the reception herself! -

We selected Main Event Caterers for our recent wedding at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria. I was initially attracted to Main Event's attention to local sourcing for food, seasonal menus, and "green" approach. After enjoying the 5 star service, I honestly cannot speak highly enough of these guys. They simply did an outstanding job from start to finish. The Torpedo Factory has some unique challenges with regard to set up and the Main Event staff was remarkably efficient, professional, and attentive. Not only was the food phenomenal, but our event coordinator, Spencer, did an incredible job setting up our personal display tables and centerpieces. Every single staff member we encountered was genuinely kind, friendly, and ready to go above and beyond to ensure our night was fantastic. Our guests were amazed with how accommodating the staff was and couldn't say enough good things about the fabulous food. If we had to plan our wedding over again, there isn't a single chance we'd choose a different catering company. Worth every penny.

Main Even provided the catering services for our wedding and reception. Anyone who is planning a wedding probably knows that the caterer does much more than just provide the food. Main Event did a great job with everything and was extremely accommodating with some of our unusual requests. My husband's family is Persian and we wanted to use an outside caterer to provide Persian food for one of the stations at our reception. Main Event was fine with that and even plated and assembled the food so that it looked just as classy as the other stations. The food Main Event provided was excellent. Many of our guests are still commenting on the great food at our wedding. We worked with Alison and she really helped to pull our vision for our wedding together. My husband and I both commented that Main Event's attention to detail turned our wedding into an event that was better than we could have imagined. My only complaint is that Main Event was sometimes slow in responding to our messages and questions. But, if I had to do it over I would definitely use Main Event again.
