A lovely plantation that has a gorgeous garden.  I love all the trees covered with spanish moss, the views of the Ashley river, and the beauty of the ponds.  The family tomb there is also really neat to see.

My fave part though was the Audubon swamp tour!! There are paths surrounding this swamp, in which you just walk around looking at all the wildlife.  Wildlife to include snakes that may be in your path, birds, tons of turtles sunning, and also the alligators (!) that are mere yards away.  I'm surprised that they are able to let people come through here, considering how dangerous it seems.  When we were there, we were warned to stay away from a certain area since there was a mama gator there with her babies who gets pretty agitated with people.  With warnings from multiple people, I was definitely going nowhere in that vicinity.

On the grounds is also a free petting zoo with goats, rabbits, peacocks, deer, and all sorts of other animals.  There's also a garden maze, restored old slave cabins, and a green house (Barbados garden) with tropical plants.  This is definitely a must-stop during a trip to Charleston.

Driving down the long road to the house, with the huge oak trees and spanish moss forming a sort of tunnel to the past, I knew I was in for a treat. I was right! We took the house and garden tour and I would highly recommend it.
Outside of the house you can take as many pictures as you like but inside the house no pictures are permitted at all. Inside, the house is very well kept and our tour guide was very knowledgable about the history of all the houses that have occupied this place on the Ashley and the family in general. The tour of the house lasted about 25-30 minuntes.
The gardens were spectacular! I think we roamed around the gardens for about an hour and a half just taking in the beauty of it all. In the lake that is by the house we even encountered a baby alligator!
There is also peacocks and other types of birds that wander around too. If you have a love for gardens and even for history, I would recommend this tour. It is is perfect for a day when you just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

What an incredible place to visit!  We attended a wedding and reception here and everything was absolutely perfect.  The grounds are stunning and the wedding ceremony took place right next to the winding Ashley River.  Simply magical.

This beautiful garden was my favorite part of my visit to Charleston.  I would have been able to stay there all day!

Even in the winter, there were amazing blooms, vegetation, and wildlife.  I can only imagine what it would be like in the spring.  Plenty of winding paths and trails for a nice stroll on a warm day.  There are also alligators!  I didn't get to see one though...

We also accidentally drove through the swamp area which looks really cool...(yes the trail was suppose to be for the tram...it was getting narrow and scary!) but its extra for that tour.

I would go back just to visit here!

the magnolia plantation is amazing!

the weather was lovely during my stay, and we spent over two hours simply roaming the flower and foliage-filled grounds here.  there are more structured tours/tram rides etc., but i really enjoyed doing it by foot.  just wear comfortable shoes, as the plantation is quite sizable!

the magnolia plantation is also fascinating from a historical perspective, as it once set the scene for the enormously successful drayton family rice empire (basically.)  of course, not without the assistance of indentured help!

if you have time to do just one thing in charleston, i would say come here!  there really is something for everyone.

This place is magical. The gardens are incredibly beautiful, especially in the Spring when the azaleas are in bloom. There's so much to do here... trails for walking or biking, a wildlife observation tower for bird-watching, an herb garden, a horticultural maze, a petting zoo and a train that takes people on tours through the Cypress swamp.
