Normally this time of year the golf is closed due to the snow, but whilst we were there over New Year it was open, so we spent a morning there.
They have three course to chose from, all with a different theme, you can pay to do one course or all three. We chose the storybook course which was super cute.
It could do with a lick of paint in places, but I guess thats just from years of the harsh weather.
They also have a small indoor area with an air hockey game and a few other coin operated machines for kids
Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and there is no snow! -

This place is quaint but fun.
Because we have snow it is only open during the summer. It gets beat up because of our winters but this place is still a lot of fun.
There are three courses to entertain the very young to very old kids.
Some of the holes are very challenging and it is a great place to spend a few hours outside with the kids.
Give this place a try. I am sure you will enjoy your time there. -

This place is AMAZING!!!! I love mini golf and have experienced a number of them and this is by far my favorite place. They have some 52 holes available and for a drunken day of a good time in South Shore this is as good as it gets.
The holes are creative and fun. You feel like your stepping into a new world filled with giant dinosaurs, evil monkeys and crazy creatures. Very kid and adult friendly. I've been to some pretty terrible mini golf places with poorly designed holes. This place is top notch and fun!
If you like mini golf and are in the Tahoe area, this place is a must! -

Mini-golf is something you do maybe once every few years if you don't have kids, and maybe once or twice a year if you do. If you get the jones for Putt-Putt and you're headed through South Lake, stop at the Magic Carpet.
This is the place that time forgot. There is an awesome vibe here -- from the old coin-operated little-kid rocking horses, spaceships out front to the free-game-prize-repurposed-slot-machine you put your ball in at the end of your round.. This is mini-golf the way I remember it from my childhood -- the late 70's perhaps being the apogee of the mini-golf movement?
I dig the obviously hand-built, I'm-living-my-childhood-dream construction of all of the various sculptures and hazards that crowd the area -- half of which is shaded by the giant pines the course wends it way around. We played the storybook/fairytale course (there are 3 to choose from), and each hole was a delight.
There were a few "gaps" between the sheets of artificial turf, and some of the statues were getting a little rough around-the-edges, but that just added to the awesome, local feel of the place. Our daughter had a great time, and the family-friendly atmosphere was just right.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. -

Oh, oh, oh oh oh. This place has SAVED what otherwise would have been my Tahoe Vacation FAIL '09.
What do you do in South Lake Tahoe in August when it's only, like, 60 degrees outside? YOU GOLF. And not the kind that involves a big bag, caddies, lots of walking, and all that other shit. No, you MAN UP and you MINI GOLF. That's what I did.
It's cold outside! Whatever, mini golf knows no weather.
I suck at this sport. That's OK; there's a 6-stroke-per-hole limit.
I'm broke! S'OK: you can spend as little as $6 for a 19-hole round of golf.
I'm allergic to outside! Also OK: go inside and do the arcade! Shooting games! Air hockey!!
This was perhaps the best time I've ever had. I regressed to 5 years of age. So happy. Also, you will be VERY happy if you go here instead of the depressing "amusement park" next door. Don't go there. GO HERE.Listed in: TAHOE!!!!

Magic Carpet is a pretty fun place for mini golf, but I find that the setting isn't as awesome as it could be. You're in Tahoe, and I feel like I'm back at home in some regular suburb playing mini-golf. Also, I think they could maintain the course a bit better.
These are the only reason I've got to deduct a star. Why? Where else can you find not only one, or two, but THREE 18 hole courses!!! On top of that, the price is killer! You AND your wallet will be happy after playing at Magic Carpet. -

When I told co-workers I was going to Tahoe and that Magic Carpet Golf was on the list of must-do's, they thought I was nuts. I thought that too, when my hubby first told me about this place that he's been going to just about every year since he was a toddler. But let me tell you, this is the best damn mini-golf course EVER.
Three courses to choose from (18 hole Storybook, 18 hole dinosaur, and 28 hole Fairytale), and all of them are fun. This place looks like it hasn't changed in decades, but they did add new holes recently, so I guess they're just preserving those good ol' times of yesteryear. It's part of the charm. At the end of your game, forget having to putt for a chance to win a free game; you drop your ball in the modified slot machine and that determines if you get a free game or not.
We came on a dreary May day and even though it was misting occasionally, there were still 3-4 other groups on the courses. The holes are strategically adorned (the moving spider passing back and forth over the hole and the volcano you play through are favorites). It's just great to look at this place; I mean, you have the pirate ship, the octopus (I got a hole-in-one on this one!), the brontosaurus, the monkey with the moving tail ... there's just so much to see.
You don't find mini-golf courses like this anymore! -

Cheap and fun!
They have 3 different courses to choose from.
They've added new holes so the numbers on the floor doesn't reflect the signs they have.
The very last hole is inside where you paid and got your balls and clubs. You put your ball into the slot machine and see if you win a free game.
Will go back to try the other 2 courses. -

This was a fun thing to do on our last day!
The courses are a lot of fun, the price is right. I wish that it was maintained a little better, maybe a face lift every two years or so?
I would come here again though! -

Hell yeeeahhh! 4/5 stars only b/c of the major mosquito problem. From the street it probably looked like I was dancing like Elaine Benes. (If you bring your own cocktails they are suddenly not so bad, though.)
I have been coming here since I was knee-high to a mosquito, and I'm happy to report that it's still the same wonderfully old-school blend of arcade and elaborate mini golf course. Go down 50 twd Stateline for a bit and you'll see it on the left side of the road. (The old lit sign has been replaced by one made of a stack of boulders.)
The Arcade: There is a Texas Hold 'Em pinball game, a basketball shooting game, pacman, frogger and an assortment of other games I didn't get a chance to play this time. They stop sending ppl out to the green around 8-8:30 to avoid staying late as ppl finish up.
The Links: You can choose one of two 19-hole games or the 28-hole game. The 28 is in the front of the course and includes the pirate ship (a personal favorite) but sadly no longer has the trolls-turning-the-wheel hole. The "wheel" has been repurposed into some lame "mill" type thing attached to a barn? Oh, how I miss the trolls! Other holes on the 28 include: the swinging spider, the octopus, the brontosaurus, rainbow w/a pot of gold, a chicken coop and so much more. I prefer to go at sundown. The lighting is great for pictures and besides, there is so much else to do in Tahoe during the day. The only drawback, like I said, is the mosquitos. They really need to throw some mozzie donuts in there! Anyway, I don't usually do the back 19 but it looks just about as cool & elaborate as the front. Sadly some of the holes in the 28 don't have sculptures but are more about physics. (The great part about any game is that you can skip whatever holes you want and just have fun!) I made 3 H-in-1 and didn't go over 3 strokes in any other hole. Maybe I'm used to the course but it isn't that hard if you relax & have fun. Scotch always helps in that capacity.
There is also a mini amusement park in front for the kiddies: a cool early 20th century plane, some (25 cent?) horsies and a duckie? Maybe even still the tiny roller coaster, but I ran into the arcade for pinball so fast I didn't stop to look.
Service: A+! The young lady who was working there the 1st weekend of summer this year was a doll. She was super nice and when asked gave us some great restaurant ideas. Unfortunately "Off the Hook" sushi was no longer seating after 9:30pm. According to other links ppl seem to like it. I'll have to check it out next time. See my other reviews for where to and not to eat in S. Lake Tahoe. Here is the site for the sushi http://www.offthehooks...
I hope this review was helpful and that you check out this awesome place. It's one of the few landmarks still unchanged in South Shore. Let's keep it in business forever! -

This review is a year or two late but I wanted to add my 2 cents...my friend and I spent the weekend up in Tahoe last year. My first impression driving by it looked a bit week and really didn't interest me. After my friend convinced me to go we tried it out (we are quite competitive) and it was totally awesome! I come from SoCal where the only mini golf places around are Boomers. The engineering in the course layout is pretty neat...much better than the typical ones. There's also 27 holes for much more fun...the 28th really isn't a hole, it's a slot machine. Definitely my fave mini golf place I've ever been to. And just to let you know I did take home the victory. :)

Magic Carpet Golf (miniature golf course) is located on Lake Tahoe Blvd. near the 'Y'.
It is family owned and the courses are very fun: fairytale land or dinosaur land.
It's fun for the family.
Inside, there are little rides for those children under 65 pounds.
However, the bathroom needs a little more maintenance.
Fun place. -

My wife and I like to play miniture golf, so when we saw this course from the road on our recent getaway to South Lake Tahoe, it was a natural we'd check it out. We ended up coming back to play it the next day, too.
Our first time, we went after dark. We played the 28 (!?!) hole course. It was something like $11 - a really good deal for the number of holes and the amount of fun you have playing them. There were enough people there that it didn't seem weird, but it wasn't crowded. If we got backed up behind someone we just skipped around.
The holes were fun and challenging, but never impossible or overly frustrating. And with 28 very different holes, it stays interesting and inventive. Some of the giant animals or buildings were really cool - I had my picture taken with the giant octopus! They did a great job of laying out so many holes in an area without making it seem claustrophobic. There are occasional benches to sit on if play gets backed up.
We came back the next day after looking at the golf course at Heavenly - and deciding to come back and play Magic Carpet again instead. This time we played in the afternoon, and we played the 19 hole Dinosaur course. There were a lot more people there, but it was more of the same fun time.
I should note that the staff there was extremely nice and friendly - enough that my wife and I commented on it to each as we left each time.
I love arcade games, but I didn't play any while I was there. I was a little disappointed in the selection. They were mostly older machines, includding a couple classics. It might be fun if they went in that direction, and added a couple of classic pinball machines like Addams Family or Attack from Mars. I think if you're going to go retro, go all the way.
As another reviewer mentioned, there are some mosquitoes at night. It's freaking Lake Tahoe! Of course there are mosquitoes! I refuse to take any points off for that.
All in all, this is a great place to kill a couple hours! I'll be back! -

what a dump. What an eyesore for the community! What a waste of money and of real estate.
