This place confirmed my love for Italian food and for food in general. Love is a strong word. But not as strong as the flavors in their pasta. I've tried food of equal caliber but they get an extra star for letting me bring home another meal for lunch the next day. They actually provide fourthmeal.
And I really enjoy the bread and olive oil before any italian meal, but not the way I enjoyed theirs. Just sayin.
Although it's a chain, Maggiano's is so popular in Cincinnati that it warrants a review so those who have never dined there understand it's appeal.
Maggiano's is ALWAYS crowded. Always, always, always. I can't stress this enough...do not go on a Tuesday night at 8pm expecting to walk in and grab a table, this restaurant is both enormous and enormously popular. To be really safe, call ahead and make a reservation.
The portion sizes are big enough for two (at least) so go in with a friend on an entre...not only will you save money, you'll be perfectly full, not overly stuffed. The Chicken Pesto Linguine is my personal favorite, though the Lasagna is pretty darn delicious, if you can get it. I have been to Maggiano's on quite a few occasions that the restaurant has run out of their fresh, daily prepared lasagna. Both dishes cost less than $15, so when shared, you're looking at a really cheap meal.
Salads, like pastas, are big enough to share as well. We usually share the Tomato and Mozzarella appetizer salad, it easily satisfies a family of four.
Maggiano's is a great place for groups and the restaurant easily accommodates any size party if you make a reservation. Servers are well equipped to easily separate checks for complicated situations.
The bar at Maggiano's offers appetizers and freshly mixed drinks, it's usually even more crowded than the restaurant with happy hour specials, so be prepared!
Maggiano's is a chain but this is the only one to be found in Cincy. The food is obviously Italian and it is absolutely delicious. What we end up doing every time is their family meal. This is a pretty pricey meal but it includes all four courses: appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert. You get to select from their enormous menu and select two of each (including two meats and two pastas). There are refills on anything you want more of and whatever's left goes home with you in a bag.
As has been mentioned, Maggiano's does a very good business and don't be surprised to wait at least 45 minutes if you plan on just walking in there. Also, the restaurant is a little difficult to navigate because the tables are so close, but it gives the place a more intimate feel.
Spacious, captivating decor, and a really nice patio describe the restaurant. Varied, filling, and delicious describe the food. My family always orders from the family menu which has many delicious foods that come in different courses, a good option for groups because you can get more. Favorites include the Spinach and Artichoke dip, Cheese Ravioli, and profiteroles for dessert. Make sure to bring patience, lots of cash, and a huge appetite.
