you almost get what you pay for with this hotel. the location is great and easy to find - the valets were very friendly although there is no other parking option and parking downtown did seem a bit scary.

we had a large circular stain on one of the blinds, but apart from that everything was very clean. the bathroom was exquisite.

umbrella and bath robes provided were luxurious, the duvet and pillows, as well as the mattress were all very comfortabe.

the view from the roof is fantastic, there is no better view of the mississippi and very romantic.

I was unimpressed with the TV channel selection (no HD channels for the HD tv) , though a dvd player was provided.

the continental breakfast was meager - fresh fruit and choice of bagel/toast/english muffin but there were a bunch of $ options as well.

i felt as though, despite how few people were staying here this particular night - there were certainly guests next door ( i barely saw another soul our whole stay here but we heard them next door)

anyway the decor was very fancy and chic and we had a good experience here.

Good but not great, did not meet expectations
We stayed for a couple of days here in the summer.  Location is very good if you want to be downtown and the staff was mostly nice and very helpful.  (they could have warned us to avoid Beale Street on Friday night). Room was ok; bathroom had no counters or sink storage, but had deep windowsills to accommodate our stuff.   The room was not very quiet, even on weekends.  Good consistent AC would have helped, but it only came on now and then, with incredible noise, and blew straight on the bed.  We spent nights alternating freezing in the draft and being awakened by street noise.
There was a decent lap pool in the basement.  Very strange that most downtown Memphis hotels have pools only in the basement, not very conducive for hanging out by the pool to get a break from the Memphis summer heat.

The shower head wasn't that great, but that is the ONLY thing we found lacking in our recent stay at the Madison.

The rooms are graciously appointed, clear down to an umbrella in the closet, and two nice robes. The lobby is stylish and comfortable, the bar friendly and unpretentious, and the restaurant small but good. Best of all, and the reason I give it five stars, the service is unpretentious, genuinely friendly and responsive. Maids, bellmen, concierge, waitstaff and desk clerks all went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and that makes up for a shower head, in my book, any day.

Poopsie and I stayed there last weekend for a staycation. The room was nice, but not exceptional and the staff we came across were very nice too. But for a supposed "luxury" hotel it lacked a lot. A couple of particular issues:
I had a scotch neat in the bar a couple of times. The price for a scotch was a bit on the high side, but acceptable, but the kicker was that they charged an extra dollar for it "neat". In other words the charged extra money to not do anything with it. The first time I commented on it, the waiter said it was because they poured a larger shot for a neat drink. (It didn't seem larger than other places. Does that mean they are giving you a short shot in a mixed drink?) The second time I had it, I didn't bother commenting on it.
The other issue was the complimentary breakfast. I was expecting something really interesting from a "luxury" hotel. What we got was worse than a Best Western. It was chintzy, cheap, small, lacked variety. A definite disappointment. The next morning we went to the Arcade for a decent breakfast.
I general, it seemed like they did not have enough staff. There was no doorman and the valet parking guy was running his butt off. He was a great guy, very friendly and informative about what was going on. There was only one person at the front desk, both on check in and out. There was bar staff lacking the first night we were at the restaurant and the second afternoon at sunset time on the roof.

Other than the scotch issues, the restaurant was OK, but we only had late night snacks. The view from the roof is excellent, it was too bad they did not open the bar up there.

Loved it.

I stayed here during the Memphis Marathon weekend and the service was excellent.  When we walked in the door, at 1 p.m, they greeted us with a smile and had us checked into our room early.  The concierge, Stacy, was extremely friendly.  I had spoken with her prior to arrival to arrange transportation to the hotel and also a rental car for our last day in Memphis.  She was the best help ever!

The rooms were big and the beds were comfortable.  Not quite as soft as a sheraton sleeper bed or of those offered in the Hilton hotels, but it was nice.  The linens were nice as well.   Molton Brown shampoos and soaps were offered and were quite nice as well.

The breakfast was good, cereal, bagels, toast, fruit, coffee, juice...  My sister asked for peanut butter one day and they went out of their way to find some for her.  Staff was very helpful.

The only things I wasn't thrilled about in the room are.. the TV is old, not a flat screen and there weren't a ton of channels.  The hallways were cold, but the room temp was easy to control and was toasty warm.

The hotel was a little expensive for my typical taste, but I enjoyed every minute.

I was informed upon arrival that this hotel is the place where all the nba players stay when playing the grizzlies. I like lead ins like that. Styain with the ballers....place was great and i am told by locals that its superior to its much better known sister down the street The Peabody. Modern, clean and hip with a nice gym across street. Stay here. There aint a lot of alternatives in mumphuss.
