Tivoli, NY
Very good, well prepared food...have had many enjoyable meals here. Only issue I've ever ran into is slightly lackluster drinks from the bar. On the other hand, if you keep the drinks simple they're usually good.
I've been many times, and have yet to be disappointed. -

I enjoy the bar here, and the scene on the porch in summer is great.
However, the last time I ordered dinner there (last November--see below), both my dinner companion and and I wound up with horrible stomach problems by the time each of us got home.
Since we did not share any other food that day, it seemed certain that Madalin was the culprit. I hope someone from the restaurant reads this and decides to make a review of their food safety, because the place is very elegant and appealing otherwise.Listed in: Dutchess County, NY

On the upside, I greatly enjoy the social atmosphere of Madalin. Sitting at the bar in winter or on… Read more »

Review from Vanessa W.
Dobbs Ferry, NY
Went here for the hubby's birthday. Food and atmosphere were great. We sat on the porch outside, so I didn't get to see the inside tables. I had the fried chickpeas for an app. They were very good but there were a lot of them seemed like it would have worked better as a part of a platter. The man has arugula salad which he enjoyed but found kind of forgettable. I had a green curry which was really flavorful and spicy also the veggie were really fresh tasting. Hubby had hanger steak but was again a like lack luster. I feel like hanger steak needs a sauce and this one only had s rub. Also he asked for it rare and it was purple. This is a man who barley cooks his meat and was way too rare even for him. All in all was a good experience and would go back if in the area. Pretty affordable too for a fancy dinner, but I'm also used to NYC prices

Let's just start with the fact that I've eaten at Madalin's 15-20 times, and not once have I been disappointed. The food is always topnotch, both in quality of ingredients, and in the preparation. I am reviewing Madalin's Table first, because it is the only restaurant I can think of that still has a perfect record in my book
Madalin's has done an excellent job in offering five star fancy schmancy dinners as well as the more casual bar fare in the town of Tivoli that is part fancy schmancy and part casual as well. (catchy cliche one liner to show I can write reviews with the best of them)
In no particular order, these are some of my favorite things about Madalin's
The fish and chips are my definition of comfort food on a cold winter night.
They use crushed salt on their fries instead of cheap finely ground salt.
They have pepper grinders for each table, instead of preground pepper in shakers. I mean really, what food lover would use ground pepper when cooking, yet most restaurants expect us to put it on our food at the table.
I always get the remoulade sauce to dip my fries in.
Their Three Course Price Fix deals really are a deal.
Coffee is quite good, and their Desserts are heavenly and usually big enough to share.
While some might complain that the prices here are a bit high, I would say that while you might save a few bucks elsewhere, you won't get the quality.
Lastly, the waitstaff does an excellent job of knowing the menu and appreciating the food, there is none of the snobbiness I've often gotten from waitstaff in when I ask what a rillette is. After all the place is a bit fancy, so they have to use a few shmancy words on their menu.
Ok, one more lastly, Dining on the porch in the summer is, well, it is, well, it may not be hip, or quintessentially small townish. It's just a great spot to eat and enjoy life. -

Great place to come for a drink, snack or dinner--fabulous bar/pub room makes you feel transported. Joe the owner very friendly and glad to help make sure you're happy. Great reason to come to Tivoli--great yarn shop across the street BTW called Fabulous Yarn.

When we arrived at Madalin's Table (part of Madalin hotel), it started to pour. Nevertheless, we chose to sit on the porch, enjoying the fresh air brought by summer rain.
Service was extremely friendly, and dinner time on a Wednesday night was fairly crowded for a tiny town like Tivoli. Menu has a variety of good choices.
I had the sunchoke soup, cool and smooth, full of flavors. Really was the highlight of the meal. Then I had a quail nicoise style salad. The haricot vert and quail eggs and daikons were delicious, but the quail legs on top were a bit overdone.
My husband had the mussels that came in a rich and slightly sweet broth. I would definitely recommend that.
My in-laws were happy with their hummus pizza, clams, and a trout entree.
Although some of the dessert items looked appetizing, we unfortunately did not have room for them.
Good food, fair price, nice and relaxing ambiance. -

We had dinner here this past weekend. Not worth the prices or the extremely long wait, not only to be seated but also to have both appetizers and entrees arrive. The wait staff was friendly enough and apologized many times - perhaps a problem in the kitchen. But seriously an hour+ for food to arrive. We won't be going back.

West Hartford, CT
Fabulous food perfectly prepared. Whether hanger steak, amazingly light fried sweet potato fries, venison chili, thin crust pizza, the bread basket and the desserts...one of the best meals in memory. The bar is also a nice place to have a drink before or after. Highly recommended. Don't be fooled by the funky hamlet of Tivoli.

Tivoli, NY
This is a very good restaurant. Everything I've ever tried there has been amazing! The portions are also large which I appreciate... The guys that own the place fixed it up into an amazing hotel/restaurant from a kinda shabby bar. I highly suggest it.

Amazing restaurant, the maple butter was a nice bonus; highly recommended if you are visiting nearby Rhinebeck.
