One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
All hail the tweezing queen!
It's about time I write a review for this awesome brow artist and her super relaxing space. Before coming to her, I treated my brows to various threaders who shaped my brows in all sorts of weird shapes.
During my first visit to Madeline's, she spent over an hour fixing my brows getting them into a great shape. Upon learning that I had sensitive skin, she tweezed every single hair, instead of waxing, for fear that I'd break out. My face and I appreciated that a lot! She also taught me how to tame the brows in between visits (I'm broke student and so my pocketbook greatly appreciated that).
She's does a great job, is fun to talk to, and has great taste in music. Her space is super cute and cozy. Though she's a bit pricey, I think Madeline is totally worth it!
Okay, okay.
I know I don't really need ANOTHER update
about how fabulous Madeleine is.
But she is really awesome and the only lady
I entrust with these babies from here on out.
After a few months of dedication my brows are looking
a lot healthier and the shape is much better.
I'm not just saying this because she places sharp
pointy instruments close to my eyes. I enjoy gong to
get plucked and prodded. She always has the best
stories and we giggle like ridiculous school girls.
Oh, and FYI as I arrived there was a very nice guy finishing
services. That's right guys, don't be shy. Make an appointment
and get some manscaping
http://www.askmen.com/... your girl or guy will appreciate it. . .

I was really excited to try Mad About Brows after reading all the positive reviews about Madeline's work. After growing out my eyebrows for nearly 2 months, I came here in hopes of getting an ideal brow job. She spent 1 hr and 15 mins and when she was done, I wasn't impressed at all. For that much time and $40, I thought that they would turn out amazing, but l didn't even like it! My left eyebrow was a tad thinner than the other one, but she said it was fine and didn't fix it. I was so irritated with it. The next day, I had to get it fixed by someone else.
As for the experience: It was very awkward at first because when I walked in the room, I was hesitant to just hop on the chair and lay down without her asking so I stood there. She said, "Uhh sit down" and chuckled. That pretty much her demeanor the whole time I was there. She was annoyed that I didn't bring in a picture for inspiration or model. She asked me all sorts of questions about my skincare and make up choice and when I told her I didn't really use any, she spoke to me in a condescending tone about what I should be using. I really didn't appreciate her snootiness.
Madeline you Rock!!! My brows have not look this good in like forever. Thank You Madeline!

So I just moved up here from Socal, totally stressing over who could ever replace my beloved eyebrow specialist in Malibu, but after having my eyebrows done by Madeleine I know I can now sleep soundly at night knowing that my eyebrows are in good hands.
I was late to my first appointment (ack! I hate being late, I'm a compulsive early-arriver, but I got lost and there was traffic and blah blah blah.) and she was totally nice about it, despite my guiltridden-ness. I love the cozy little shop, and appreciated her meticulous attention to each and every hair. I have sensitive skin, and for once I didn't even break out, fabulous! Also, I had thought that nothing could improve upon the brow shape that my last aesthetician had coaxed my former Groucho Marx brows into, but after a few little tweaks, they're looking better than ever.
I've seen a few reviews on here saying that she's condescending or whatever, but I definitely didn't get that vibe. A little sassy and feisty? Yes. Condescending? Never say never, but I didn't see it.
First appointment she did a good job. I did feel uncomfortable as I am a low maintenance chick when it comes to eyebrows and face care. I felt I was doing everything wrong. Nonethless she did a good job in polishing them brows and would set up another visit in the future.
However...if life comes at you unexpectedly and you have to cancel all your plans the next day to go out of town. Think again. The night before I emailed her noting the cancellation and wishing to reschedule. She can't reschedule me at this time due to not being able to find another client to fill my spot. (OK, lost profit of $20). Sent a response back to her implying if I am blacklisted. No response.
All in all she does good work as a brow specialist. She can definately improve on the business (handling customers, phone/email support). Keep in mind she runs the shop literally all by herself.
Oh well, there are other brow places in the city.
An ode to Madeleine, who knows a good brow,
her work will turn heads, and make folks say, "Wow...!"
She's a meticulous artist with real grooming prowess,
and after she's through, you'll have perfect brow-ess.
Mad's space is immaculate, her vibe warm and fun,
go now, thank me later, and don't walk--run!
I went to Madeleine for the first time a couple months ago and came out with fabulous brows. I'm pretty stingy about paying for personal care services, but for the thoroughness she puts in her work, the $40 pricetag was worth it. She definitely backs up the hype and outstanding reviews with her results, and I had never been more satisfied with my brows.
Additionally she provides some useful maintenance and makeup tips--for example, I complained that brow powder makes my eyebrows too dark and overpowers my face, so she dusted on some ash blonde powder instead and they looked infinitely better. Seems obvious now, but I would've never thought to use blonde powder for my black hair.
I did feel a little put off by Madeleine. She's friendly, but I was uncomfortable and intimidated by the way she kept commenting on how unruly my brows initially looked and how my self-maintenance routine is completely wrong.
Another thing--I hate making personal calls during my workday, so it was so convenient to be able to confirm my appointment by text. While I loved that, throughout my appointment, as soon her text msg notification sounded, she would immediately stop what she was doing on my brows and go check her iPhone. Being a compulsive phone checker myself I personally didn't mind it, but I know people who would be very annoyed by that.
All that being said, I still gave her 4 stars because she did such a good job. The negatives weren't a total dealbreaker but for now I'll be shopping around for a brow place closer to home. I would still highly recommend Madeleine if you want amazing eyebrows.
Let me first say that I've never, EVER spent this much to have my brows done. In fact, in order to save money, my BF has been plucking my brows for me for the past year. I started to get a little paranoid that they were growing too far apart and decided to let them grow out and have them done by a pro. Let me also say that one of the main reasons I decided to go to Madeleine was to see what all the hype was about and to see if she was really worth the $40 price tag.
Now let me say that she is, in fact, worth the hype and the hefty price tag, because you get so much more than a 10 minute wax. I got a lesson on how to tell how far apart my brows should actually be, a few makeup tips and a little bit of therapy not to mention perfectly sculpted brows. The difference was amazing. I would recommend her to anyone. Don't be afraid of the price! She's so much more than a brow waxer.
Let me just say that I let no one touch my brows, then I met Madeline. I have thick brows which I like, but they're tough to shape. The last person I allowed to wax them left me with a sad, thin line of hairs for brows. I vowed never again. I explained to Mad that I liked the natural look, but needed (desperate) clean up. She worked her magic, and an hour later I emerged with amazing brows. She definitely lives up to her reviews.
Parking is tough there, so public transportation is recommended. She takes cash or check, and her cozy shop will make you feel right at home.
i have had bad experiecnces w/my brows so i went to nordstroms the benefit bar to see if paying a bit higher would be better. thats where i found madeline. she was AWESOME. i swore i would never go anywhere else as long as i was in the city or had the means to keep coming back to her. thats exactly what i did...i followed her when she moved from nordstroms and then opened her shop. the new shop was confusing to get to since i took the bus everywhere but i made it one time @ about 6mths preggers. i had my baby and it was time yet again to get the brows done. it had been a while since i had gone to her new place so i got directions online and took the bus. when i got off at the stop i realized i was nowhere near her shop. i called her & explained the situation. I asked her if she knew how to get to her place from Van Ness and she had no idea. I told her i had to cancel since she didnt know how to get to her shop from where i was and i was walking w/my 2mth old. this is where she shocked me: she yelled, yes yelled "WHAT?!" i told her again and she gave me the biggest attitude about not being able to make it then hung up. i couldnt believe it. It was the rudest conversaion ive had to date. needless to say i never called back to reschedule. she also dropped me from her facebook. for such a nice girl it was all completley childish. i still recommend her for her service but ALWAYS add the warning that she'll bite ur head off if u cancel or are late. its a damn shame

Umm...let's just say that my brows needed a lot of TLC prior to my visit to Mad. Even Madeleine admitted that my brows were very "special". She spent over an hour working on them, all while we laughed and talked about boys and other random things. It felt as if I was at a girlfriend's house and she was giving me a makeover. The whole experience was amazing.
My sister actually had her appointment after mine and we were both super satisfied with how our brows turned out. My brows have always bothered me and I thought that they were totally hopeless until I came to Mad. I am so glad that I found Madeleine on Yelp. She definitely lives up to all the 5 star reviews and is worth the $40! I can't wait to come back!

Madeline is super amazing! Not only does her personality make you feel like you are hanging out with an old friend, but she knows exactly how to make your brows look like perfect gorgeous frames for your eyes. We talked about what I wanted my brows to look like and she gave her input and tada an hour later I had the perfect brows that I have always dreamed about!!
If you are tired of looking in the mirror and being disappointed at your less-than-perfect brows, then you need to call Madeline and make an appt. ASAP!!!
At first thought, $40 is a lot to spend on your brows, but I think we all forget that your brows frame your entire face and that if your brows don't look great - it will bring everything else down. So, whether you already have brows of envy or brows of opportunity (like me) I introduce you to Madeline...
Madeline is amazing - and although my brows aren't perfect (YET) after my first visit, I understand that they're a work in progress and know that I can achieve the look I want with maintenance (and not going anywhere else but here).
In the past, I've gone to places where you're in and out in 10 minutes so I wasn't used to be a 45 minute brow appointment - but it's nice to know that she takes her time and doesn't just tweeze/wax the first wacky brow hair. Overall, Madeline was pleasant, professional and really wants to know about YOU, what YOU want, YOUR lifestyle and your desired look.
I'll definitely be back.
Madeleine is awesome! I've never had my eyebrows done in my life before Madeleine. I had to grow my eyebrows and change my shape right before my wedding b/c my sis told me that I have a terrible shape. I found reviews on yelp and decided to go to Madeleine. It was smartest decision I've ever made in my life! She is very fun, lively, and sweet and was very gentle with my eyebrows. She did an amazing job, everyone loves my eyebrows now, especially my sister and my husband! Now I recommend Madeleine to all of my friends and family.
Oh, how I miss Madeline's delicate hand. She introduced me to Anastasia's brow products and I've never looked back since...I even found a brow artist in Seattle who was trained by Anastasia too. I started with over-tweezed brows and ended up with brows that get compliments! She takes her time and is seriously a guru, which is how I justified shelling out $30 for a brow wax...but $40?...yeesh! Her clientele also reads like a whose who in SF...props to her for having to deal with those beezies..cuz lord knows a lot of us wouldn't.
I don't think that my brows have looked this good since I've been maintaining them - honestly!
Madeleine works wonders and takes her time, which leads to fabulous brows!
I had a good feeling about her when I called to schedule an appointment - she is so personable and friendly! My appointment with her felt like going to your girlfriend's to hang out!
Parking isn't the best in this part of town - but it's worth it!
Mad? No. How about GLAD that I drove the 30 somewhat miles to see dear Madeleine. My appointment was at 11 and surprisingly, I was able to find 2 hr street parking (I spotted 2 other spots too) with no problem.
Once greeted inside, I found myself in such a cute and comfortable office space. Madeleine is such a professional; she knows her brows and she's easy to talk to. I liked how she first asked what i was looking for, explained everything she was going to do before waxing/tweezing/trimming and she even educated me on brow maintenance. The time she spends with you as well as the intimacy of her place makes you not only feel at home, but that your brows are receiving the best possible care from the very best.
Visiting Mad About Brows is like a sleepover at a friends house where you catch-up on life and pamper yourself. Me and my groomed brows are looking forward to our next visit!

I will only trust Madeline with my brows from now on. Since I'm a student I only go to her like, twice a year, but if I could afford it I would go more frequently.
I have sparse, flat brows (they suck), yet somehow Madeline manages to give me a slight arch, which makes ALL the difference. Great attention to detail, location is cute.
She's a little kooky but I don't mind.
I've always wanted to try this place due to all the good reviews so I grew my brows out and waited and I finally got the chance to try it out . The chair is kind of cute and comfy .. kind of reminds me of going to a dentist hehe . I got the brow makeover and I was kind of disappointed . It seemed more like a brow clean-up than a shaping or " makeover " . Madeleine spent a lot of time on my brows and she did a very clean job though so I'm giving her 3 stars . Decent brows but overpriced and not what I wanted . I could've gotten the same results for a lot cheaper . However , this a good place for those who are very very high maintenance about your brows because she does do a very clean job . Btw , she doesn't pick up the phone so you will have to leave her a voicemail . I advise calling ahead of time because it usually takes her a few days to call you back to book an appointment . That's one of the other things I don't really like but ohwells .. I don't think I will be back .
Thank you Madeleine for helping my brows find a shape and having them fit my face so well! I just wish you were closer to where I am now in LA!
Honestly, my brows were in a sad state before I found her and she coaxed them into a wonderful shape with no pain and her sunny disposition to accompany my appointment. We shared some girl talk, laughed a lot, and I walked away with a cute sticker and amazing brows. I'll be back as soon as I can.
What's the big deal about brows, right? Well, to women, a heck of a lot! We get our power from our face, our pretty fugure, and so on.
The brows, definitely make you look awake, or old. Depending on the brow artist. That's what I think about the ladies at this place. Highly recommended!
I have so much hair on my face and they were so careful to remove it without even hurting me.
I will go again!!
I have been to at least a dozen supposed eyebrow gurus in the 3 years that I've lived in San Francisco. Is it really that hard to find someone who can give you perfectly arched brows? Apparently so. That being said - I think my search is over (I say think only because I can't seem to believe my good luck)!
Madeleine was great! My brows are natural looking (not too thin) with a nice arch (not too curved) - just how I like it! She also took some extra time with me to show me how to fill in my light eyebrows without looking like a clown (a very important lesson).
Added bonus: Madeleine was super cool - totally fun to talk to.
Madeleine doesn't want your business, or she acts that way. It's difficult making an appt, changing an appt, she's upset if you're late and all she cares about is her Daily Candy write up and Yelp rating. She does a good job BUT SO DO MANY OTHERS.
Really, there is no reason to look further than Madeleine for beautiful brows. She is wonderfully personable and professional. I highly recommend her to everyone I know!
There is no better place for brows - anywhere! At least I have not found one. Even when I am visiting other cities I am always looking around, but I have just never found a true match for MAD
Madeline Klein is my FAVORITE! I've been following her since Nordstroms, and now I'm so proud she's opened up her own shop. The quality of service and attention to detail can't be matched as she spends 45 min to 1 hour shaping, waxing, and giving tips on how you can maintain your brows and grow them out properly.
Thank goodness she introduced me to GRAY eyebrow powder for dark haired girls or I'd still be walking around looking like a freak.
Madeleine is an eyebrow WIZARD. I had my very first appointment today and she lived up to every fantastic review she has received. My eyebrows had been tortured by some lady who thought giving me bald spots was cute, and the shape and arch had been plagued by my genius plucking in high school & college. Yes, I used to have upsidedown "U's" for eyebrows back in 2000.
Anyways, Madeleine (note the spelling people!) waxed, tweezed and filled in my eyebrows to the most perfect shape on the planet. My eyebrows have totally transformed. I swear she made my hair grow as the shape has completely evened out. She took away my dark brown Mac eyebrow powder and suggested a medium ash tone pencil from Anastasia which has made the biggest difference on my face (yes, I took a picture of myself and compared the old with the new brows!).
Other highlights: she uses lavender scented wax, her hands are so gentle you don't feel them at all on your face, the music playing in the background totally relaxes you, her breath smells lovely (which is a big deal since she's right in your face; my last waxer smelled like Old Chinese food), and the best part - that Madeleine is sweet, kind & hilarious. She is so talented and dedicated to her craft...it's pretty amazing to be around.
Tips: make appointments as early as possible as she gets pretty busy, and bring cash or your checkbook!
Seriously, I will never go anywhere else ever again to get my brows done. I've been scalped by so many other places that I will never stray from Madeleine again! I've been seeing her for almost a year now and she has consistently done an excellent job. She knows what good brows look like and can actually give them to you! Book in advance though - it's next to impossible to get last-minute appointments.
I must say that Madeleine is one talented lady. I went with my friend to get her brows done and I was there for support. But I also had to see her work in person. After she finished with my friend, she looked at my eyebrows and wanted to do a touchup on me.
I've been doing my own eyebrows since I was 16. So it's about 12 years now. I think I do a pretty good job. Certainly not the best but it'll do.
Madeleine colored in parts of my eyebrow with a pencil. She then said "I'm very tempted to tweeze but I don't want to go over the boundary by charging you a full service." After seeing her work of art on my friend's face, I said "I'm all yours. Do what you want with me." Ok...that sounds dirty. I didn't mean for it to come out like that. I wanted my own Madeleine piece on my eyebrows.
She did some cutting and some tweezing. When she was done, I was VERY impressed. I fell in love with her right away. My brows did look much better. She is now the only person I'll go to for my brows.
FYI: Her knowledge is not just brows. I believe it is beauty in general. She suggested something for my bad acne. I'm gonna try it out. Ladies, I highly recommend you have Madeleine do your brows too!
She only accepts cash or checks.

Genius and sweet...
If only she had a frequent customer card - then loyal customers can get like the 10th one free or something (hint hint**)
After having my brows turned into pencil-thin porn brows elsewhere, I knew I needed a new brow person. I waited a couple of painful months for them to grow in (though there are still holes, feh) and started researching. Bear in mind that I was getting married that weekend, so I needed someone I could trust, even though I'd never met her before.
Holy crap, I can't even believe how good my brows looked when Madeleine was done. I didn't know my brows could look that good, could have such a jaunty arch, could frame my eyes so nicely.
I live and work in the east bay, so it's not even slightly convenient to get to her place, but I do it. Not as frequently as I would if I lived closer, but I get my ass on BART and walk to her Pac Heights place because I loathe looking for parking more than I loathe BART.
She's that good.
I have been an eyebrow tweezer since I was 15. Blame it on my mom and my inability to grow out my brows for more than a day. I finally admitted that I do not have the skills of a brow professional and found Mad About Brows on our wonderful yelp. I then somehow made myself put away the tweezers for 4 long and torturous weeks.
Man, was it worth it. I was a bit skeptical that Madeline would make my brows look significantly better, but she did. She literally spent an hour talking to me, waxing, tweezing, shaping, etc. She has a great personality and a great skill. Go see her! I will not go anywhere else. And this tweezer addicted woman has been converted!
AWESOME! I will always refer people to mad, she is awesome! I love that she is the featured yelper today!
Madeline is amazing, the very best. I had been growing my brows a few months, and one grew out differently than the other. I saw Madeline and she made them both very even, and symetrical for my face. She did a wonderful job. I am so happy with my new brows. Thanks, Madeline! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! Very cool office, and comfortable vibe. For the best brows in all of San Francisco, Mad About Brows is the only place to go!
Every time I go home I have to stop by and get my brows done. I have not found any place as great as this in LA. My eyes always look perfect when I come and leave home. Thank You!
Happy ! Thank you!!!!
