Its a decent Macys.
I usually stop by to check out the polo section but as I wandered around some more this one shirt caught my eye. It was a Calvin Klein plaid long sleeve and in the same rack i notice another one! I would have never considered taking a look at shirts in the calvin klein section but thanks to macys i copped two of them and best of all they were on sale!
This Macy's rating is a mixed bag.
Skin care & fragrances: 2 stars.
Jewlery: 2 stars
Women's: 3 stars
Men's: 1 star
Home & Housewares: 5 stars.
It seems that many Macy's do not offer consistent customer service. It's expected that merchandise will vary from location to location depending on the buying moods of each neighborhood.
The home & housewares department at this Macy's is the best in Los Angeles as far as I'm concerned. The sales associates get to know you (well I've made many purchases from them) and they know the products inside and out. Whenever you have a question, they will be glad to help you. You will always find good deals on just about everything as they always seem to be having a sale!
The Men's Department at this location, is basically, a bad joke. Near non-existant customer service. Merchandise always seems sloppy and unkept. Sales associates are there to operate the cash registers or those wands that read the SKU numbers. There have been times I've gone in and there has been no one in sight to help.
Other departments are all consistent in that, there is no consistency. In particular Skin care and fragrances (both Men & Women's) the staff seem truly bored and not interested in helping but rather have a Macy's clutch to find out the latest escapades in the world of Macy's.
Like all Macy's the store seems over stocked and sloppy. This store has been remodeled which has helped it immensely since they took over Robinson's-May.
A pet peeve of mine is the bags they place your purchases in. Whether I'm buying from the Men's Ralph Lauren Department or something for my sister from Eilleen Fisher or Addidas, they put it those damn, cheap and tacky plastic bags! Arrgh!! When I spend a $100 on a shirt, I'm hopeful they will wrap it in tissue and place it in a nice paper bag like J.Crew, Martin & Ossa, Banana Republic and Ralph Lauren does. Not a chance here. Target even has better plastic bags! Come on Macy's, get it together with this. Doesn't it make sense to place high end merchandise in tissue and a decent bag?
Deducted a star while figuring the overall average due to their overall frugality.
First of all: free parking, thank you very much (ahem, Paseo Colorado).
This is a nice Macy's on the surface. It is big and bright and sparkly. The racks and shelves looked fairly well organized despite the fact that they had some kind of coupon sale. Sometimes sale shoppers tear it up at Macy's you know?
The men's selection is really good, same with accessories, cosmetics, and dresses. I was really disappointed with the lack of stock and selection in shoes though. It was pathetically small with lots and lots of bare shelves and displays.
Oh and the restrooms were SEVERELY out of order.
Don't buy a mattress here! The sales people will tell you whatever to get you to buy something there. I was told A) this was the lowest price of the season and B) I qualified for a sony camcorder as part of a promotional deal.
Both were wrong. The mattress came down in price a week later, and they told me I didn't qualify for the camcorder because i didn't purchase a set, even though the sales person was fully aware I was only purchasing a mattress for a platform bed. The Furniture department manager was no help and told me I should have read the fine print on the paperwork.
I should have just went to a mattress store...
This Macy's has the biggest and best selection of Men's apparel and shoes that I've seen in any of the many different Macy's in the Los Angeles area. They always have a good selection of sizes in many different colors/varieties, so that whenever I visit, I never get that "all the good stuff has been taken" feeling. The selection here enables me to quickly find exactly what I'm looking for in the right size, with minimal frustration, and get in and out without having to search through crap.
I joined my GF on her quest for a new bed. She wanted a queen, I told her that I didn't roll that way.
She meant a "queen" sized bed. I said, "oh, that kind of queen." Baaadum, psshh!
I suggested Macy's, because me and my family have always gotten our beds from Macy's at very good prices.
I'm already fan of Macy's and their smell. I love how Macy's smell. I was taking that shit in! *sniffs hard*
We go downstairs and this particular Macy's has its own furniture dept. The furniture department is HUGE!
We walk over to the mattresses and notice that they cost thousands, and, oh look, here comes the salesman. Damn. He tells us to ignore the prices listed, because everything is 40-50 percent off.
Of course the most expensive beds there list for 10k, wtf? This isn't the Macy's I know and love. We briskly walk around the bed section and do not see anything remotely affordable. The GF goes to the bathroom before we bail, and I snag a Macy's furniture catalog for a closer look.
Inside the catalog they have more mattresses. Now we're talking. The cheapest queen bed is $489. That sounds about right, but the problem is that it would be tons helpful if they had a sample model for people to sit on and check out live. I guess this location does not put emphasis on showing off the cheap shit. Not cool.
Looks like GF is getting her bed at an IKEA.
While it seems many other department stores are going a little more high-end, Macy's seems to be standing still. Maybe because of this, Macy's is starting to feel like a Robinsons May to me. The Macy's in South Coast Plaza is an exception (that one is pretty nice).
This Macy's in the Westside Pavilion still does some decent business (but it never feels packed to me--except for crunch holiday periods). After not being able to find the right shoe size at the mall's Nordstrom, I went over to Macy's. Their selection was pretty limited, but I was able to find the right shoe and size. Unfortunately, it was a busy weekend, and they had only one guy working there. And of course, there was one woman who had to have one size of every shoe in the store for her uninterested son (who looked like he wished that he was anywhere but there). Seriously, there were boxes everywhere. I didn't know if they were shoe shopping or building a fort. Still, the growing mob of people waiting (including me) were quite patient and conversed jokingly and politely with each other.
While the store definitely did not have enough staff, the one guy was working incredibly hard and was very friendly. Overall, this Macy's is not a bad store (at least the prices can be good during sales). But I think you will have a much better experience at the South Coast Plaza Macy's in Costa Mesa.
