I hadn't been into this store probably since it was May D&F a million years ago. And I really would have been happy to stretch that record a bit further. Amazingly this store has the same layout it did back then; kitchenware, linens, etc are in exactly the same locations they were back then. The addition of the whole 29th Street Mall has made the downstairs super dark despite putting in some skylight buffer areas near the entrances.

Over each register hangs a "Service Center" sign, however nearly all of them were unmanned and I really got bad service. I had to ask 3 different people to find the Wedding Registry Center, because no one was very specific about where to find it. Once I got the registry, very little the bride and groom had registered for was actually available at the store. (This I had to decipher myself because the employees didn't seem to know that if there is a star where the price ought to be then they don't carry it.)

A woman in the linens department was the pushiest salesperson I've seen in ages. She told the couple she was ringing up her name twenty times and told them to make sure they used her name for something or other so she would get a $25 bonus. Tacky. When I couldn't find anything off the registry I wanted to purchase, at least in her department, she practically grabbed my arm to keep me there.  I hate feeling like a walking commission in the eyes of salespeople.

I did find some decent coffee mugs for myself, which are deceptively hard to find; maybe people don't make their own coffee anymore? We only buy from Starbucks now or what? Though they were not marked, it turns out the mugs were on sale so I got 33% off. Anyway, the little old guy who checked me out was pleasant, and wrapped each mug individually.

Macy's gets to keep 2 stars for having mugs and cute old men as checkers. Otherwise, I'm gonna see if I can not shop there for another 15+ years.
