I have used MacService's service once and they have been such a great help. An Apple employee recommended them to me because I needed a new hard drive but didn't want to pay Apple's prices for it (haha). They were very nice and straightforward with the service, I received an educational discount (fabulous!), and by the same time the following day, my laptop was ready to go (local drop-off/pickup).
They may seem to good to be true, but they're not! I have a 5 year old laptop going strong thanks to MacService, and I'll continue to go back to them as long as I own a Mac (for life!)
If you own a Mac and have a problem with it, this is the place to go, hands down.
Wow, what can I say but a big THANK YOU to MacService for making my Mac work again! I was nervous about shipping my Mac 2,000 miles away for service, but the experience was well worth it. They communicated very well and made the process easy to understand. Everything was straighforward. No gimmicks, no stupid rules, no BS. They do what they say they're going to do. They seemed a little too good to be true at first, but 4 months after the repair (infamous G4 logic board issue that Apple won't own up to), I'm still impressed. Thanks to them for raising the bar of my expectations for service and results!
My apple ibook is old and the screen went blank. It would start up, you could here it ring, but nothing visual on the screen. So I dreaded the Apple store because of the dumb attitude of snobbiness. I tried MacService and was extremely pleased. They sent me the box in one day, I mailed and got it replaced in 4 days. The turnover time was amazing, because logicboards can be tricky they were giving me 1 to 3 weeks on extreme cases. The service was unbelieveable and no pressure. Absolutely do it again.
My PowerBook is my lifeline to the world.
Sure, I've got phones, other computers, and - believe it or not - still know how to talk to people in person. But my 'Book is my life. I have all my pictures, music, writing, contacts... just about everything important to me on it, short of booze and food. Even then, I keep recipes on the sucker, too.
So imagine my horror this week when I cracked it open only to find that my LCD was dead. Going by the look on my face, you'd think someone had just nuked everyone near and dear to me, or worse, that UCLA had been knocked out of the NCAA tournament.
I scrambled to search for a good repair place online and things were looking grim. $500 for a new LCD alone, not to mention tax, shipping, and the labor involved in replacing a screen on a super-thin, aluminum laptop. Ugh.
Enter MacService. They emailed me a quote almost immediately, and told me I could either have my box shipped overnight both ways, or just swing by their shop.
I rarely trust anyone with my beloved, so I opted to go to the shop. One of their reps who had mailed my my quote, Saori, was there when I came in and immediately put me at ease, knowing I was dropping off my baby. Being Mac guys, these folks know how obsessively we love our machines.
Well, this morning I picked up my PowerBook and she's almost as gorgeous and fetching as when I got her from Apple three years ago. I'm back to cranking my tunes, posting jibberish on Yelp, and otherwise picking up my daily routine right where I left it. And at less than the cost of parts alone.
MacService, I think I love you.

I was hesitant about dropping off my ibook anywhere and thought about upgrading the memory and hard drive myself. After finding many others online who had tried and failed miserably, I decided to try and find professionals who could do it for me. I called many other places and were unimpressed with the reps who answered the phone and could not say whether or not they had had much success with switching out the drives on these older macs. I was also wary of places who would not give me a quote over the phone or online.
I called and spoke with Amber who immediately put me at ease. She was able to answer all my questions and even checked to make sure they had the drive I wanted in stock. They are nearby and I dropped it off early in the morning and it was ready the next day. The new drive and memory work great and they transferred all my data so everything was as it was before, only faster.
I would recommend MacService based on my experience with them.
I'd give these guys NO stars if the system would allow.
I work with an elite crew of techs for one of those well-known-Silicon Valley-uber-corporations, and one of my cohorts took our VP's laptop in for nothing more than a simple hard drive upgrade since we generally don't do Mac hardware support in house.
MacService gave the laptop back to us with a broken track pad. When it was pointed out to them that the track pad was working just fine before they touched it, they insisted that the logic board needed to be replaced, and of course, want to charge us a pretty penny for the repair. They also said something about broken pins. What broken pins??? Naturally we disputed all this, and despite the fact that their Web site claims "100% customer satisfaction is our goal," they insisted they weren't responsible, and refused to work with us.
Turns out, they aren't even an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
It looks like we're not alone in our experience:

Mac repairs: 3.
These guys are great. If you have a problem with your Mac that isn't covered by the warranty, this is the place to go. They do their repairs on-site, their work is guaranteed, the price is often lower than the quote you'll get at the Genius Bar, and best of all, they're fast and intelligent about what they're doing.
When you send your laptop in to the repair depot for, say, a broken hinge, the Apple Store always warns you to back up the drive first. With MacService, I can tell the guy doing the repair, 'Whatever you do, don't reformat the drive,' and, sure enough, my PowerBook is returned with all its data.
If you're not in the Bay Area, MacService will ship you a padded box for your laptop along with a prepaid shipping label.

I haven't found a more valuable resource for getting my laptops fixed. I've dropped off two machines for repairs and had them back the same day. One was a hard drive and I think the other was a cd burner. I even got all of my data from the hard drive that had died. It was a lucky break I guess, I was told to back up from now on, which I am working on getting set up. kudos to MacService for a job well done!!!!
