Neighborhood: Beacon HillI love going here whenever I'm in the area. As everyone else has said, the prices are amazing. I've also found some unexpected treats: local honey and desserts that I've not found anywhere in the Northwest. Even during the peak hours it's worth going and getting fresh, ripe fruits and vegetables.
If you're looking for fresh fruits and vegetables, this is the place. The prices here run about half of what you'd pay in a super market, and the quality is generally better, to boot. Also, make sure to look in the back for what they've got in their discount pile--perfect for whipping up stock. Plus, there's cheap sketchy tamales sold from a car in the lot and tasty corn-on-the cob from a sketchy booth in the lot. What more do you need from a vegetable stand?

This is the only place to get your produce! Extremely cheap. I mean, where else can you find four lbs of bananas or apples for a buck at times! The prices vary of course depending on season and all that, but I always buy bags upon bags full of produce and have never spent more than 25 bucks! They even have a discount section as if they aren't discount enough!! I love their selection, and they have some organic as well super cheap! Even berries cost nothing compared to grocery stores. Eating healthy doesn't have to break the bank anymore.

WOW!!! I am so glad I went. Great produce, very inexpensive. Came home with three bags of produce for $12!!! 12 oz raspberries, 2 for $1!!! Can you believe it????
MacPherson's makes living on Beacon Hill much more affordable - we get half of our groceries from here, for less than a quarter of our grocery budget.
If you are at all capable of choosing your produce, you can consistently find good food for good prices here. Beyond the usual produce, there's usually some chorizo, cojito, breads, or other random things tucked in corners of the store.
The parking lot is small, so on at especially busy times (noonish on weekends), I usually end up parking on 15th and walking less than a block.

MacPherson's is the shining star of the Beacon Hill neighborhood--great hours (open super late in the summer), incredibly cheap prices, and a diverse clientle that makes every shopping experience seem like you're in a market in Europe or Asia.
That said, you have to eat your veggies up quickly--their shelf life isn't super long, so it's best to pick up veggies for dinner and cook them that night.
Greg MacPherson runs a "stellar" operation, there, on Beacon Hill. I worked for Greg, Peter, Marilyn, Tammy, and Ron, there, for 3 and a-half years, from 1998 to the beginning of 2002...Greg was by far the most generous employer, I've ever had...He would "sneak" gifts to me, "Just Because"... I really miss his leadership, and I would gladly work for him, again, in a heart-beat...Yeah, the prices are pretty low, and of very good quality, huh?~"Nilli-Vanilli" Billy (Auburn, WA-Round Table Pizza delivery driver)

Produce Economics:
MacPherson's - bell peppers - $.69/POUND
Safeway - bell peppers - $1.00 EACH
Supporting local farmers - priceless.

The place is fast, cheap, and has great variety. The produce is always RIPE and therefore on the verge of being unusable. Buy small amounts of produce and use ASAP. An older patron told me that this used to be called the "rotten fruit stand" for this very reason. I have yet to find a better fruit stand, but I also have many places to explore yet in Seattle. Thus, at the risk of over-exaggerating, I will just say that THIS PLACE IS THE COOLEST FRUIT STAND EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE.
Don't you just love it when people overuse capital letters?

From the street this looks like little more than a shack. I kinda avoided it for a bit when I first moved up to Beacon Hill. But reading the reviews, I had to go check it out.
This is one of those places that looks crappy from the outside, but is actually kinda nice and cool once you get up in it. The have a good variety of nice produce. I've bought tons of stuff there and rarely ever cracked $10.

MacPherson's is AWESOME! Why buy produce at Safeway, or PCC, or even Columbia City farmer's market? This place has a great selection and even some organic choices, all for super cheap. Here's a few examples...(1) I spent $6 on two asian pears, four nectarines, one mango, and a bag of gummi bears, (2) Rainier cherries were $3 a lb. when everyone else was charging $6, and (3) Red leaf lettuce is always $0.99 a head. This place is fantabulous and you must go. The parking lot is ca-razy to navigate but you can almost always find a spot if you are creative and resourceful. Namely, park on the sidewalk, in unmarked spaces, or on the street.

Love this place... If you catch stuff that's in season and eat it quickly you'll never find a better deal. Sometimes they put out some stuff that's gonna die, but it's always really really absurdly cheap.

This is a serious produce stand. People are here to buy bags and bags of tomatoes or tomatillos or grapes or whatever. And with good reason, because it's actually affordable! You CAN feed your family fruits and vegetables! You just have to shop at MacPherson's. What you would pay $40.00 for at a regular store, I walk out of MacPherson's with change from a twenty. They occasionally have organic produce, which is lovely, but for your basic fruit and vegetable needs, you can't beat it.

I couldn't believe how well MacPherson's combines great prices, good quality, and a wide variety of produce, all in one roadside stand. Parking can be hard to find, but turnover was fairly quick on our first visit and we didn't have to wait long to find a spot. We ended up getting 3 loaded bags of fruits and vegetables for under 20 bucks, which is nearly impossible in any grocery store that I've ever been to.
All of the produce looked fresh and in great condition. If you're trying to eat on a budget, or even if you just want quality product, MacPhersons is a great option.

Cheap, cheap, cheap! Did I mention CHEAP!?
This is a locally owned business. They have so many fruits and produce for such good prices. They use to have their specials hand written on butcher paper and stapled in front to attract the many customers that pass by. They've changed their signage since those days, but the prices are still attractive.
Who can beat $0.33 per lb apples, or $0.39 per lb onions?! Everything is super fresh or marked out for clearance. If you're really on a budget and don't mind some bruising, they often have huge bags of produce for $2-5. Our family can leave that place with bags of produce for less than $15 weekly.
This place is more of fruit stand than your everyday indoor grocery store. They are open everyday of the year. Be sure to dress warmly during the winter time.
Parking:
They do have a small parking lot. Be sure to go during off peak hours.
Enjoy!

i lived on beacon hill for most of my childhood and walked to macpherson's with my mom every saturday for cheap fruits and veggies. i went to mercer middle school (across the street) and would get a fruit for a snack before i walked home.
aside from it being apart of my childhood, macpherson's was a great starter produce stand. now that i live in the SF bay area i would compare local produce stands to macpherson's .. and for some reason they just don't compare.. it has a fairly large selection veggies, fruits and some refrigerated items - milk even! they even have flowers.. quailty produce, all for a low reasonable price.. you can easily walk away with 2 bags full of items for under 10.00!! CHEAP!!!

Attention Winemakers! This is the place to get a bunch of fruit, super ripe and super cheap. Seriously, now with gas the way it is, this is the closest you're gonna get to Yakima. For cooking its great too. But if you like making fruit wine and you don't have a tree, this is your place.
