In 2005, my husband and I purchased an engagement band from Kay Jeweler's in NYC that had two pink sapphires on either side of the diamond. I was on the BART going to work a few weeks ago, looked down, and realized that one of the sapphires was completely missing. Since I hadn't done anything out of the ordinary and I am very careful with my jewelery, I was shocked. Needless to say, the closest Kay store would not replace it for free, since I had missed an inspection, but they DID offer to send it off for 4-6 weeks to get an estimate and then replace the stone in another 4-6 weeks. Hmm...no thank you. My husband decided to look for a local jeweler and found R Macias online. We called for a Saturday appointment and went in to see him. He said he would look into replacing the sapphire after seeing his wholesaler in the city and get back to me in a few days. He got back to me the following Thursday with a price quote - only a little over $100 for a new matching sapphire AND labor. I got the ring back 4-5 days later and I was extremely pleased with the work. The sapphire matches really well and I feel confident that the labor was high-quality. The price was unbeatable as well. I will definitely go back to this place if I ever want a custom piece done.
