UPDATE ALERT!
An Extra Star was earned for a full five star rating.
WHY?
Well I came into my office yesterday and had a random package mailed to me from the Maccullum Inn of all places.
They had sent me my friend's waterbottle, the kind that has it's own filter. My friend was bummed that she forget out it there but we never called to ask them to send it to us. We just didn't expect that. -- Kind of thoughtful right???
Without being asked they sent it to me AND, they sent a little sticky note to say that the Granola that we love is still there. :)
Nice people there. Seriously!
If you go here, ask for the Manager HERMAN. He and staff are super nice people.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I'll keep it short a sweet.
1. Dog friendly
2. Location -right in the heart of it all
3. Comfortable
4. Private hot tubs when you stay in a cottage.
5. GREAT food.
6. Free breakfast (and none of this continental, stale baked goods nonsense. I'm talking gourmet breakfast burritos, pancakes and lattes, ya'll)
7. Credit to use towards their restaurant for their GREAT food.\
Seriously, I'll never stay anywhere else in Mendocino. Best vacation EV-AR! -

*****PEEPING TOM INCIDENT*****
WARNING - THIS PLACE IS UNSAFE!!- WARNING
****PEEPING TOM INCIDENT*****
Let me start by saying we stayed in the barn our first night and wanted to stay there the second but it was not available so we figured staying in one of the rooms with a private jacuzzi (room 8) would be great. WRONG!!- At about 8pm my husband was getting out of the shower, about to get dressed when he noticed the outline of a person at the window, ***mind you this window lead out to the private patio area which "could only be accessed by key"*** As he stepped closer he realized it was a man, looking in on us (a peeping tom) we immediately called the front desk but by the time my husband got his clothes on, the man was gone. Once the night manager walked the premises he noticed there was a gap in the fence as well as the fence being lower than the rest, where someone could easily slip through or "jump the fence" into the patio. We refused to sleep in that room another night so they moved us to the main house into a smaller room, and in no way equivalent to the previous room. At this point I was so scared I couldn't sleep. The window where the man stood was literally inches from where I lay and to top it off, I had opened the window earlier and did not lock it, thinking because it was a "private patio" the window could not be accessed. I AM STILL SCARED TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD MY HUSBAND NOT SPOTTED THE MAN WHEN HE DID OR HAD I BEEN ALONE IN THE ROOM. THE NEXT MORNING WE WERE TOLD THE SHERIFF HAD RECIEVED MULTIPLE REPORTS OF A PEEPING TOM IN THE AREA but because the sheriff is located in fort bragg he could not take statements for a few days meaning THE SHERIFF NEVER CAME INTO THE VILLAGE TO CHECK IT OUT!!! The next morning upon check out we spoke to the general manager who wasnt' even at the inn, he apologized for what happened and offered us a "monetary adjustment", that turned out to be a $46 CREDIT,. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT, our room was $230.00 PER NIGHT, and all he could give us for their lapse in security that lead to the violation of our privacy and such a traumatic experience was $46??? The receptionist refused to give us the number to the owners. One of the townspeople was able to give us the name and numbers of the owners and we have left messages but have not heard back. We drove over 4.5 hrs to come to this place to celebrate our anniversary after reading all the rave reviews. We NEVER IMAGINED OUR SAFETY WOULD BE COMPROMISED in such a way. They have no one to patrol the grounds OR ANY TYPE OF SECURITY in place.
I WOULD NEVER BRING MY CHILDREN HERE, AND WOULD NEVER STAY AGAIN MYSELF.
I FELT BRUSHED OFF, DISSAPPOINTED, VIOLATED, ANGRY. NO ONE CARED. THEY ACTED AS IF IT WAS NO BIG DEAL AND THEY WERE DOING US A FAVOR. The shop owners agree more should have been done by the MacCallum House.
NO ONE HAS BEEN CAUGHT SO HE IS STILL AT LARGE. A COUPLE OF PEOPLE SUGGESTED IT MUST BE SOMEONE WHO WORKED THERE, TO KNOW THE PROPERTY SO WELL.
I have tried to contact the owners and manager and the only one who bothered to return a call was the receptionist who said she would relay the message, but TWO WEEKS later no response from ANYONE. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I AM JUST THANKFUL MY HUSBAND SCARED HIM OFF, WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED.
I WOULD URGE ANYONE THINKING OF STAYING HERE, NOT TO. THERE IS
SOMEONE ROAMING THAT TOWN SPYING ON PEOPLE DURING THEIR
ROMANTIC GETAWAY, ETC. WHO KNOWS THE PROPERTY AND KNOWS HE
CAN GET AWAY WITH IT ESPECIALLY SINCE THE OWNERS AND MANAGERS
DON'T SEEM TO CARE. -

LOVED this place!! My husband wanted to go to Mendocino and knowing nothing about it, I decided to look on TripAdvisor. It got the highest rating so I checked out their website and chose the room I wanted and booked it right there. It was AMAZING. The service was great and even though the restaurant is closed until Feb, there are tons of great places to eat in the area. And breakfast this morning was AWESOME! Great food. We stayed in the suites section and would definitely stay there again. Super quiet and nice space. Fireplace. Ocean views. What more could anyone want?! LOVED it. Can't wait to go back when it's warmer!

Hands down, best place to stay in Mendocino.
It's right off the main street, so you just need to park your car once, unpack, and walk everywhere. I LOVE that. So relaxing.
I've stayed in two of the suites--and highly recommend them. Wonderful jetted tubs, some rooms have their own sauna or hot tub. Comfy beds. Spacious rooms.
And the food, wine, and atmosphere in the bar and the breakfast area is wonderful.
Treat yourself! Make a romantic getaway. Splurge. Just try it. You'll like it! -

If the drive to Mendocino weren't so windy and nauseating I'd go back to Macallum House again and again. Part of my stay has a lot to do with the room we were in. I booked the barn studio and my husband and i loved it. We took advantage of the fridge, fire place, the two person jacuzzi, and the private jacuzzi in our patio. We loved it! Hotel staff were helpful when we needed assistance with the fire place and check-in and check out was a breeze. I saw some of the rooms in the main house and i'm not quite sure I'd have the same experience. Those rooms are a bit dated and don't have all the luxuries that our room had. Only down side was that our room was on the bottom floor. Unfortunately, there was a family with 2 kids above our room so waking up early to their foot steps was a bummer.

Doesn't get better in Mendo. Everything was fantastic - Soup, wine, steak, crab, all was worth every penny. Service is top notch and we would return. My wife and I went to dinner and were pretty much blown away. Sometimes in Mendo county it's hard to find a combination of good food and good service but this place takes the cake. You can go casual or a bit dressy which was nice for the holiday week.

Amazing, Amazing, amazing meals, especially breakfasts. The waitstaff are top notch, I can't say enough about them. This is simply the best place to eat in Mendocino.
The Inn is lovely, but I don't know if I will return. I booked a suite and was given a room, otherwise large and nice, but still, clearly a room. Not a suite. And I needed a suite to allow my young daughter to sleep (and therefor to allow me to sleep). The hotel staff handled the situation beautifully, so I can't say I have any complaints, and they upgraded me to a more appropriate room. Again, top notch service and outstanding staff. But if a suite is what you absolutely need, make sure you know what you are getting. -

I still smile when I remember how lovely our breakfast was at MacCallum House. We stayed two nights, in one of the cottages. The cottage itself was nice, fairly spacious, and clean. It was a little awkward because the shower and toilet were in the bathroom, but the sink was outside, in the bedroom (by the door to the bathroom). A little weird, but not terrible. The bed was comfy, and the hot tub was pretty great. It was outside, we had bathrobes, and enjoyed it.
The only negative I guess would be that the fireplace was very tricky to work; I was bringing the luggage in when I heard my girlfriend scream my name and then I got on my white horse to rescue her hahaha, it turns out that she had set fire to the kindling and newspaper, but the flue was closed, so the whole room filled up with smoke! After getting the smoke out, I tried lighting the fire again, but even with the vent open, smoke kept getting into the room. Just make sure you don't burn too much wood in there and make sure the fire goes out before you fall asleep.
Also, the breakfast here is AMAZING. We had DELICIOUS corn pancakes with huckleberry sauce, I think. They were dusted with a little bit of powdered sugar, and mmm they were lovely. We also ordered a delicious breakfast burrito and that was great too, plus their homemade ketchup is the bomb! Coffee was plentiful, strong, and they kept it coming. We also found that the hot sauce here was sooo good so we went on a hunt for it later when we were walking through the town. Dinner was a little pricey, but really good. I don't remember what we ate, but the next morning we ordered a pumpkin souffle that was aaaawesome. We missed out on it for dinner because they ran out, so my girlfriend had to have it, and the waitress told her that she could order it with breakfast because they would start making them early in the day. Thanks for that tip!
All in all, we loved this place and would definitely come back here again. -

My boyfriend booked a cottage room on my birthday here and we just loved everything about this place except for the location of our bathroom which is separated from our room. We had to run outside in the cold at night and unlock our bathroom to use it. I guess, that made it an extraordinary experience. ;-) Other than this, the place is charming and the view is spectacular; heaven on earth.
It's a breakfast and bed and the foods are amazingly delicious. We had the Eggs Mac Benedict, coffee and some mimosas. We enjoyed them. This place has their own restaurant the Grey Whale Restaurant and Bar where we also had dinner and had some drinks.
Great place in great location. :-) -

For the 23 minutes that I was here... it was very small, crowded, so so view and we'll, I'd rather be on a stairmaster. Whatever...
Ordered one cocktail... it was ok. Its a cocktail... so it was a pretty standard drink/taste. Sorta over priced.
I wont be going back anytime soon.. or later for that matter.
People were polite.. alot of cute little petite eye candy!

Walking distance from the Joshua Grindle Inn (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), the B&B where we were staying, we booked our Friday night dinner reservation here.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience. There were a few missteps here and there but still a spot worthy of a special occasion. I am glad that we chose it as one of the dinner locations for our first anniversary weekend.
We arrived a bit before our reservation and started with drinks in the comfortable, cozy bar area. For dinner, we were seated at a small table with a window looking out at the side lawn.
For appetizers we ordered the oysters and the dungeness crab martini. The oysters were on the small side and the flavors forgettable. This was disappointing because oysters are one of my new favorite foods. The crab martini, on the other hand, was amazing with a kick of spice. I could have eaten four.
For my main dish, I ordered the arctic char. As our server explained to me, it is somewhere between a trout and salmon and cooked more fully than salmon. It was really good and moist. The asparagus, fingerling potatoes, caper berries and accompanying sauce were perfect flavor additions to the fish. We were offered a free dessert because my honey's filet mignon wasn't cooked well.
As far as desserts go, I usually prefer savory while my honey likes sweet. We opted to order both the trio of cheeses (all from Northen California) and the chocolate mascarpone cheesecake. Both dishes were delicious and a lovely end to our meal.Listed in: Weekend in Mendocino

My wife and I stayed in one of the cottages. Ours had its own bathroom and a little private garden with a hot tub.
The accommodations were fairly nice but for the price I would have expected a bit more. For example, the garden had very poor lighting which was an annoyance when trying to enjoy the hot tub at night.
The bar and restaurant were good but not fantastic. The service was definitely above average and we liked the drinks but the food was just OK. -

Delicious!
We ate in the bar- husband had the burger, and I had two sides- a risotto (amazing!) and a grilled pear salad with arugula. We also ate a ton of bread- which was just amazing. Fabulous bread. I think we had 3 helpings. We also tried one of the specialty drinks-rum, nutmeg, coconut- really good! For dessert we had a chocolate place with 3 different items- a chocolate stout ice cream, a truffle and a pot de creme, with cherry whipped cream. Does life get any better than that? It's not cheap, but compared to restaurants in its class, I didn't think it was very expensive. We eat often at Chez Panisse upstairs, and I would not have been disappointed by anything I had at the MacCallum house- if it were served at Chez Panisse (which is sort of my gold standard).
The staff were very friendly, as were the other patrons. I just loved our meal, and hope to go back so I can eat more! I think it would also be a lovely place to stay, so maybe we can do that too. -

We were there for breakfast 6/28/11. The food was amazing. Almost the entire menu is made on site. No cans, or packages! One of the best breakfasts I have had. My wife has dairy and gluten allergies. The waiter who resembles Ben Stiller in looks and personality was very knowledgeable. I appreciate that he is so enthusiastic about the food there, he said he has loved working there for 5 years. He showed us numerous other menus and brought us the home made organic Ketchup to try. He offered great, prompt, attentive, and professional service. His knowledge of the menu items was outstanding!
This is a must EAT place when visiting Mendo! -

MacCallum House is a gem. My husband and I first went there on our honeymoon, and have been going back every year since! The staff there is always friendly and responsive, and I can not say enough good things about them (and their delicious delicious food). This past year, when we couldn't go up for our usual yearly trip (due to tight funds after our house caught fire), MacCallum House surprised us with a gift certificate for a free nights' stay --- I was absolutely awestruck by their generosity and thoughtfulness. These are wonderful people, and I hope that their business continues for many years to come!
Rooms are always clean, stocked, and if there's anything wrong they will immediately see to it. Of the past five years' worth of trips, we can not think of anything we did not love about our time with MacCallum. Their servers are also delightful, with great suggestions and answering any questions we had. Go here. You will not be disappointed!
(FYI, we were there last time during a wedding for other guests, and wow did they really pull that event off! And they still managed to make the other guests feel totally welcome and waited upon. )
Hooray for MacCallum House!! We love you! -

My husband and I got married here this past April and it was just amazing. From the first day we met Julie, the wedding coordinator, she made us feel at ease and totally taken care of. Not only is the food mouth wateringly good, the chef is such a great guy to put your menu together with. The service and quality of the staff is outstanding and continued throughout the whole weekend. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and romantic, there is just so much charm at The Mac House. If you are looking to get married here or just stay here for one night I highly recommend doing so. 5 stars!!
P.S. Order the Eggs Benedict, you won't regret it! -

This review is for dinner at the MacCullum House Inn -- we were not overnight guests but we chose to dine in the cafe for dinner. Wow. What a treat. The cafe feels like a giant greenhouse or birdcage -- floor to ceiling windows to let light in during the day. At night, candles light the table tops.
We heard rave reviews about the Grey Whale Bar and its fresh fruits for drinks -- and the menu items looked solid -- so we came to MacCullum House for dinner. Service was top notch, giving great recommendations on food and drink (and never letting our water glasses run dry). The food was fantastic and by the time we got through starters (ceviche for me and tomato salad for him) and entrees (halibut with caperberries for me and a solid hunk of meat for him), our raspberry flambe arrived (promptly devoured in minutes) and we really wished we could eat more delicious food from the MacCullum House kitchen or drink another lovely mixed cocktail. Alas.
Atmosphere is five stars. It makes the food taste better, the service even more warm and attentive, and I'd sit in the cafe versus the dining room just for the feeling of being in a Kew Gardens greenhouse once again. But I digress. -
Review from Leslie K.
Nothing like starting off our holiday weekend by the fire at the MacCallum House Inn bar. I had some lovely Roederer Estate brut and my gal pal had one of their signature "homemade" cocktails -- Manhattan Noir. Both were deliciously enjoyed as we gazed into the fire and I rambled on about the coziness of that particular sofa we were on and how everything just works there.
But MacCallum House is not known for providing vegan options. When we were ready for dinner we moved to a table and I went into the negotiation process with the waitress -- trying to find the right mixture for the pasta so I was not inundated with creams, cheeses, and what not. I had to acquiesce to a pasta with eggs but that was my limit. Though they were able to combine a chard & butternut squash side dish with the pasta they forgot to add flavor. I had to order olive oil and garlic and must have dosed with salt a half a dozen times. All they needed was to add this during the preparation with a little fresh herbs and I'd be a very happy camper.
My partner enjoyed her mushroom risotto cakes and offered to share some of her sauce. But I just reached for the salt. C'est la vie.
Next time it's just drinks and then off to a more vegan-friendly location. -

Our stay at the MacCallum House Inn was perfect in every way!
The woman who took our reservation was nice and helpful. She patiently waited as I looked at details of each room on their website, then suggested we stay in her favorite room: The Roosevelt Room (which, sadly was part of a property that has since been sold!!!).
Anyway, the room was great. We had a view of the ocean and the redwoods on the hill. The gardens were lovely, even in the dead of winter. LOVED the L'Occitane bath products.
The complimentary breakfast was delicious. This amenity can not be understated, and is a great value because these were some of the best breakfasts we've ever had. Please see my review of the Restaurant for details of the breakfasts and of the dinner we ate.
If you're looking for a comfortable, relaxing vacation, the MacCallum House is your best bet for a centrally-located Mendocino hotel. Stay at this hotel! You will not regret it. -

We got a great deal through their website - stay one night and get the next one free. So basically 50% off the standard rate. At that price - it was perfect! We stayed in room 15 which is in the barn on the first floor. We were a little concerned at first b/c the community hot tub was right outside our door, but there was no noise or issues from that. The room was small, and decorated with antique furnishings. But the bed was very comfortable, and we had a jacuzzie tub which was fun.
The restaurant was pricey (but anywhere good to eat in Mendocino seemed to be the same price). The bar was a real standout at the restaurant - I've never seen so many beautiful fresh ingredients lined up at the bar. Each cocktail was lovingly prepared by a fantastic bartender named Felicia. We enjoyed the restaurant and bar so much we went there both nights of our stay.
If your staying in Mendocino and can get a good deal at MacCullum House definitely stay here. I'm not sure I would pay the regular $249 a night, but at $125 a night it was an absolute steal. -

Took my boyfriend up to Mendocino for a quiet 30th birthday weekend and we stayed at the MacCallum House B&B on a friend's recommendation.
The room we had was beautiful, Lilies Loft I believe it was called. The bathtub was HUGE and had jets which was wonderful. Everything was so quiet and picturesque. We were only there one night so we ate all our meals at the B&B restaurant. Dinner was DELICIOUS! He had the pork loin and I had the filet mignon and we both loved every bite. The vegetables were fresh and everything was prepared to perfection. Breakfast was complimentary with our stay but even if you don't stay at the inn I would suggest eating there. I had the breakfast burrito which definitely lives up to all the hype. My boyfriend had the omelet which he told me was very tasty.
One thing that was kind of odd when we checked in, the woman at the front desk said we could have a complimentary upgrade to another one of their rooms. She gave us the opportunity to check out this upgraded room before we committed and I'm glad we did because it was MUCH smaller and not as luxurious as the room I had booked. After going online I saw that both rooms were the same price per night so it wasn't really an upgrade. Although I appreciate the gesture, I would definitely double check if you are offered an upgrade of any kind to make sure it really is such!
All in all our stay at the MacCallum House Inn was wonderful and I would recomment it to anyone who wants a nice, cozy, relaxing time away from the world! -

So you know how sometimes when you see someone struggling or looking confused, your maternal instincts kick in and you just want to pull their head to your ample bosoms and reassure them that Mama will make everything that's wrong in the world right again?
When you're watching your boyfriend try to crack a hardboiled egg, don't act on that feeling. Seriously. Let him open his own damn egg.
Life lesson of the day, courtesy of Jessica. I'm glad we had this teachable moment. I feel like a better person for it.
Our room was big. Our deck was big. Our bathtub was big. Our "ocean view" was, alas, not so big, but it's not like you have to go far in Mendocino to find the ocean (here's a hint: walk towards the bone-chilling wind). Free breakfast in the main house was a nice touch, although the waiters reminded me of actors from an afterschool special about the Dangers of Drugs. Except higher. And the best part: the front desk staff didn't blink an eye when I sheepishly explained that we'd managed to lock not one, but two sets of keys in the room.
This is the type of place you go to prove to your parents that you're actually an adult. And by you, I mean me. And you don't tell your parents that you made some dirty egg porn at the breakfast table, because that sort of ruins the whole "adult" thing. -

I really really want to give this place 5 stars and for all aspects I would. Let's focus on the positives first.
If you are looking for a place to relax, be romantic, and enjoy peace and quiet with good food you must visit the MacCallum house. It is the perfect place for a romantic weekend with your special someone.
They are also very dog friendly, but I do feel there are other B&B's in the area with more for your pooch to do. I would recommend it more for a small dog than a large dog.
Also, you can't beat the location. Your are in the middle of the town with a spectacular view of the ocean from the front porch. I love breakfast with a view.
Almost all serive we received here was wonderful. My only complaint would be with the wait staff. They were often very slow and on several occasions forgot items we had ordered. This is the reason for my one star deduction. The food was amazing, but the service was poor.
I will be back!Listed in: Mendocino Musts

If you come to Mendocino, DO NOT MISS a cocktail from Tony at the Grey Whale Bar. His cocktail menu is incredible, with top notch liquors and aromatic spices and herbs (all laid out on the bar). I would even say the menu surpasses some of my favorite bars in San Francisco.
The restaurant itself is also a gem, serving up delicious, perfectly executed food. Don't miss the homemade ice cream, very nice creative flavors that rivaled some flavors at Bi Rite Creamery in SF.
And at the complimentary breakfast, don't miss the Eggs MacBenedict and fresh squeezed OJ.
As for the rooms, get one with a jacuzzi ;)
5 stars for the Grey Whale Bar and Cafe.Listed in: Fancy Schmancy

Just got back from 2 nights at the inn. We had a fantastic time. We stayed in one of the small cottages #9. We chose it because it had a private hot tub. The room was small but quaint. It fit our needs completely. We decided to go "green" keeping the same towels and sheets for the 2 nights. In return we received a $7 discount that you could use in the bar or restaurant. I tried one of the specialty cocktail, a Manhattan Noir. It was so good I had them both nights. The breakfast was one of the best Ive have ever had..
We had dinner the last night and it was memorable. We had their tasting menu. I left feeling completely satisfied.
We will definitely stay again -

I stayed here for a night in April or May of 2005. My boyfriend and I were visiting a friend in Ukiah, and afterwards we decided to take an impromptu drive west to Mendocino. By the time we got to Mendocino, it was getting dark. We were tired, cranky, and wanted a glass of wine. We had stopped by a few other Bed and Breakfasts before MacCallum house to see if they had rooms, but they were all either booked or too expensive (as in "screw-that-I'll-sleep-in-the-damn-car" expensive).
When we finally got to MacCallum House, it was about 8 pm and they had *one* room left, the Attic Staircase room (see pictures). This room has two full/queen size beds, an angled ceiling, and a bit of a view of the ocean. It was very cozy and comfortable and charming. The only thing that's a little awkward about this room is the fact that it's bathroom was located down a short flight of stairs, but it's your own (very nice) private bathroom, and it has a lock and key. You just might want to be careful if you're type who likes to streak naked from the bathroom to your room after a shower, like me.
Our room also had an in-room sink, a TV (with cable), and nice wood furniture. We were definitely in one of the more modest rooms, as when I walked past a few open doors, I noted that the larger suites were very luxurious and fully equipped. The decor is a combination of sea rustic with some frilly country touches, and the inn is a couple of blocks away to what I assume is Mendocino's 'main drag'.
A wonderful complimentary breakfast takes place in their fancy-schmancy dining room, and I consumed the best breakfast burrito EVER.
The room was on the pricey side to me ($150), but considering that there was a delish breakfast included for two the next morning, *and* that even Motel 6 is around $60/night, I'd say it was well worth it.
The whole experience was very pleasant and the employees were quite nice and didn't look down their noses to a young couple who blew in from the street looking for a room.
I'd definitely stay there again :DListed in: Gitcho Roadtrip on!

Mendocino's a bit...rustic. Unfortunately, I think business owners here use that as an excuse to not maintain their properties. We paid $220 a night to stay here, and while we did get free breakfast and a free drink at happy hour, our room had 1) water damage in the bathroom; 2) a pillar flush against the bed, right at the spot where you get in and out; 3) not really a curtain on the door, so light came streaming in; 4) noise from people moving furniture above us; 5) banging noises from hot water pipes.
Sorry, but that's $100 a night - maybe - not $220. -

I'm not a B&B fan, but I will give MacCallum House 3 stars overall. I really liked the main house, it was just like the website and photos. A quaint, traditional beautiful house with a serene garden situated next to a perfect view of the coast. I was bummed that our room was at the "other" property, which was not nearly as nice.
The BF and I stayed in the Queen's room, which is the room with the large windows on the front of the house. Our room was spacious with a very nice fireplace. The bed was a full, so it was on the smaller size. The sheer curtains round the bed was a bit much for me. I guess traditional florals and sheers in deep colors is not what I define as romantic. The bathroom was too small and the tub was tiny.
Overall, inns aren't my style and it's not my preference for romance.
Despite the estate, I did enjoy the breakfast. Breakfast is served over at the main house, so we were able to enjoy that property. We had a lovely table on the porch, with an awesome view of the coast. You can order anything off the menu. I had the cod cakes with poached eggs and red potatoes. The cod cakes were good, with good chunks of fish and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were good too.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but I probably wouldn't come back again since's this type of B&B isn't my cup of tea. -

Had a great time here over New Year's. We stayed in the skipper's room in the Mendocino Inn which is part of Maccallum House, but is a couple blocks away on Main Street. The room was very cute and we loved the huge spa tub as well as the real, wood-burning fire place (although we couldn't get it to stay lit).
Just about everything was perfect - from the free drink in the evening to the delicious free breakfast in the morning. I had an in-room massage and it was easily one of the best massages I've had (and I've had many!).
My only complaint is a petty one - I didn't like the fact that an already filled out tip envelope was left waiting for us when we arrived. I view a clean room as an essential part of what I am paying for in a hotel. Perhaps I will tip for baggage service or even turn down service, but none of that was provided. And when I threw out the tip envelope, it mysteriously reappeared the next day. Other than that, I have no complaints and would definitely stay with MacCallum House again on any future trips to Mendocino. -

Wow. My first visit to Mendocino and I really hope to come back. i split a 2 floor room with a friend and it was $180 a night. It wasn't at the main house/building where reception is but down the road a bit. It was room #64 if any two friends are looking to share a room but not sleep right next to one another. The front yard of the place we stayed was smothered in multi=colored wild flowers. It was really dreamy. The shower has a large window you can open and every morning I caught a nice cool breeze while showering and looking at orange and purple flowers outside. It set the tone for the day. The main house has views of the ocean from the veranda.
Was here for a wedding and it was really off the chain. Probably the most laid back wedding. Loved the town and from here you could walk anywhere you needed to go in the town. We walked 20 minutes or less to the cliffs to catch the sunset. EPIC. The town mostly seems to be there for tourists, but there were a bunch of crunchy wooks rolling around barefoot with their dogs groveling for change. It makes for good entertainment though.
The staff are very nice and accommodating. Breakfast is included with the cost of the room and I will cover that in my review of the top notch restaurant on the grounds.
ADVICE: Room 8 was the heady side house room with a private back yard and jacuzzi.
ADVICE PT DEUX: Look out for the raccoons. -

I spent Friday + Saturday nights in the Suites and was quite pleased.
The dog liked it too. The room smelled a little funny, and I couldn't blame it on the dog.
Breakfast was mildly hillarious. My GF in an effort to de-shell my hardboiled egg managed to discover that it was actually a soft boiled egg when it EXPLODED everywhere and was barely mopped up with 2 napkins. My GF egg-bukkaked the window. -

A good friend of mine and myself stayed there for one night last month and loved it so much we almost cried when we had to leave! The receptionist gave us a great deal, and our room was small but perfect! Number 8, (I think), the weather was amazing and the views were spectacular! We had our own hot tub and fully equipped mini bar...
It was clean and the bed was so comfy, and you get breakfast included in the stay! And I mean the real deal breakfast, not bananas and stale bagels, I am talking eggs, crab Benedict, breakfast burrito, it was all so good! Great coffee as well!
I will definitely come back and stay here again, I loved everything about it! -

Stayed 2 nights for my suprise bday weekend, and was quite satisfied with the experience. The main house is lovely, right smack in the middle of town so you can't ask for a better location. The breakfast each morning is top-notch locavore cuisine...as healthy and fresh as the ocean air outside.
We actually stayed in the "luxury suites" up the road which were very private, felt like we had the whole house to ourselves. Our room was pretty ornate with fancy wallpaper, high ceilings, jacuzzi tub, robes, L'Occitane toiletries, private hot tub/patio and a fluffy silk bedspreads. I felt like queen for a day (or two).
The only gripe is regarding the service which was noticeably unprofessional (at the hotel, NOT the restaurant...which was fabulous in every way). They messed up a few of the big "surprises" my BF had planned which was painfully embarrassing for him and they did nothing to make up for their lazy mistakes. But, if you are just going for a weekend getaway and don't need to make any complicated arrangements with the hotel staff, you should be fine.
Great views, lovely gardens, fancy rooms, delicious food...not a bad package at all. -

We went for our honeymoon. My husband and I just got married and we had a great time. The cottage we had was small but lovely, clean and private. We had a hot tub in our yard and it was so welcomed. The staff was great and we loved the breakfasts......the enclosed porch gave us a great view of the ocean and the incoming weather. The breakfasts were outstanding and varied. We had dinner one night at the Grey Whale and it was outstanding! Would definitely go back again.

Looking for a great escape from the daily hustle and bustle? Rejuvenate yourself in Mendocino with your loved one. It's the most romantic and quaint city I've visited recently. And while you're there, you absolutely have to stay at the MacCallum House Inn. Located right in the heart of the downtown area, the MacCallum House Inn mirrors the town itself...welcoming, beautiful yet mysterious.
Each staff member was so welcoming and eager to make your stay a pleasant one. Since I was there for a wedding, they accommodated us with a chauffeur who shuttled the party to and from the wedding area. Turns out, our chauffeur was part owner of all of the MacCallum establishments! He's an absolute doll who kicked back with the wedding guests at the end of the reception. We hung out in a cozy garden area that included a fire pit which kept us warm all night! To top it off, he brought out a bottle of wine to keep the spirits up!!! I even met the main chef who lacked any pretentious bone in his body. It was hard to believe that this man acquired numerous accolades and praises for his delectable dishes. These are the types of folks you meet in this place.
In addition to the genuine companionships of the staff, the surroundings are spectacular! The property grounds are landscaped with an array of roses (some where originally planted by the late Mrs. MacCallum whose interests included horticulture), hues of hydrangeas, fully-blossomed dahlias, and sweet-scented jasmines displayed thoughtfully throughout the lushes green garden! The rooms vary in sizes but most include wood burning fireplaces that are ready to sizzle any romantic rendezvous! I stayed at the Barn house Rm 14. It's a perfect size for two or you can opt for the Upper Barn suite that includes a deck and a view to die for...
Speaking of dying, for the adventurous ones, you can always stay at the Main House where tales of hauntings have been recounted. I didn't witness any phenomenal sightings and neither did the two gents I met, however, they were not strangers to the tales. Supposedly, it's Donald MacCullum, the son, who has been seen or heard by some patrons. If you're intrigued, choose the attic rooms! True or not, the eeriness only adds to the beauty of the place which cannot be surmised in words.
To fully experience this great place and this town, you simply have to go...! What are you waiting for?

My husband surprised me for our first anniversary with a trip up here. We stayed in the Water Tower and it was awesome! There's a sauna in the room that was nice. Kinda on the pricey side but well worth it.
The food is really good, and the service was great. The kitchen was almost closing when we arrived, but the waitress told us everything that was a special that day anyway. Sometimes places start closing up early and they don't have everything available, but this place did.
One of the most impressive things for me was that this place is dog friendly! I thought we were going to drop my dog off at a kennel along the way to Mendocino, but when we walked into the room, there was a dog bed, dog bowls, dog blanket, treats, poop bags, and a towel to wipe his muddy paws off! AWESOME! I think you have to pay extra, but allowing my dog to hang out with me definitely made my stay here.
Sign up for a wine tasting tour (my husband did it when he made reservations). And enjoy Mendocino!
PS we think the water tower is haunted. There was a journal in the room that lots of people wrote in (kinda fun to read everyone's entries) and a lot of people thought it was haunted too. It was cool though, no poltergeists or anything... they were happy ghosts. -

Just got back from a wedding in Mendocino where we stayed in the Water Tower at the MacCallum House Inn. This place was incredible! First floor was a bedroom, second floor was a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a hot-rock sauna, and the third floor was another bedroom. The staff was there and catered to our every need...bath robes, beverages, complimentary morning brunch, daily house cleaning, awesome!
I agree with the previous poster...the breakfast burrito is to die for! The eggs benedict was also very good as was the special of the day: the sourdough crepe...yum! Have a mimosa with your breakfast as well...now that's paradise!
Our share of the place (we stayed with friends) was about $300 for the two nights...not a bad place to spend time with friends, see a couple of them get married, and also spend a weekend filled with memories!
