I agree with everything that Liz says above.  Amazing, amazing food.  The two downsides I found are 1) that their winelist is super super expensive.  I'm talking $80 for one of the cheaper wines.  2) the fact that they had no menu made it a little tough to remember everything that our adorable waiter told us.  There is a blackboard menu above the kitchen, but neither one of us saw it until we ordered dessert and the waiter never pointed it out.  Amazing meatballs, great salad, and their sausage & peppers appetizer is out of this world.  I will definitely go back the next time I'm in South Beach.

macaluso's is not italian food as many think.  it's staten island italian.  and for those of you who don't know, staten island is one of the 5 boroughs of NYC. it's the little island off the southern tip of manhattan. most of my family is from staten island and this is sooo the food of my childhood!

rich sauces, spicy sausages, cheese filled meatballs.  everything is VERY rich... so be prepared.  i could die!  the owner is from staten island, so the food super authentic.  not like when pizza places are like "NY Pizza" and i want to throw back at them and yell "liar face!"... this is real staten island italian.

it's kind of an experience going there.  it's very small inside.  pretty romantic.  darkly lit.  there's no menu.  the waiters come over and tell you verbally.  which can be pretty overwhelming and confusing.  the last time i went, i brought some friends who had never been.  our waitress had a very thick accent and none of us could really understand her... which made for an interesting experience.  they also bring visuals for the different types of pastas, which is fun.  visuals are always fun!

best thing on the menu... the giant meatball.  god love my grandmother, but macaluso's giant meatball kicks my grandma's meatball's butt.

it can be pricey if you have drinks... otherwise be prepared to spend in the $20 - 35 range.
