Sure, this is a big hang out for ASU students, but it's also good for families.

Yes, Macados has an extensive menu...sandwiches & "comfort" type food, as well as appetizers.  I normally go with the "Titantic", which is similar to your classic "French dip" sandwich.
I've never had an issue with the service here; they're all typically ASU students who work here.

As the other reviewers stated, there are plenty of TVs to watch all the games / sports & there's a bar area for the drinkers.

I don't think I could ever grow weary of this place! Deliciously huge sandwiches (my favorite is the Big Daddy), delicious (still huge) appetizers, and fantastic drink specials! Don't forget dessert-even if you have to take it home-their cinnamon rolls are to die for!
This is a sports-type bar with loads of TV's, a really ecletic vibe (decorated with all sorts of movie/tv and sports memorabilia), expect lots of college kids (it IS right next to campus downtown), and don't get miffed by the wait time. You should be enjoying your company, your drink (and appetizer), and when your food arrives, it was worth the wait!

I was more than a little surprised to see someone call Macado's "the best restaurant in the area." Although it has some good sammy's there are better within walking distance (ODB for starters) but it does have decent prices and a HUGE menu.
The atmosphere depends on the day or season. For example: during midsummer, it becomes overcrowded with tourists and sporting events bring a crowd because of all the TVs. St. Patty's is fun with the green beer, but then Halloween, Final 4, end of exams....and any other excuse to celebrate brings in a ton of boisterous frat boys and sloppy drunk barely 21 yr olds. Mostly it's just a good place for either simple items that please everyone or late night food and beer. Nothing super special, but never a complete disappointment, I give it a middle-of-the-road 3 stars.

I think we could have just boxed up the cinnamon buns, whose smell welcomed us when we walked in.  But we were told about the sandwiches, and we were here for the sandwiches (the cinnamon bun would be boxed up and await us in the AM, as delicious as they smelled).  The sandwich list was extensive, I had a Cowpoke, the chicken was a little tough, but I liked the idea.  I must have picked out about 10 different items I wanted to try, so I hope to make it back to try another option.

After I finished the first bite of my rare roast beef sandwich with melted cheese and special sauce on a french roll I thought;  " I CANNOT WAIT TO YELP THIS PLACE"    FAN-tastic!
I just stumbled into this place, it has over 20 different sandwiches on the menu, fresh ingredients, the meat was sliced at the restaurant.  The list goes on.  Fresh cinn rolls fill the air, a bar area with hippy music coming from a good jukebox. Many tv's with all the football games playing.  Clean, fast and friendly service.
If you are in the area, checking out the Blue Ridge Parkway or Grandfather Mountain I would make this place a must stop for lunch.  But go during off hours if you can.  Im not the only one that knows about this amazing place!

This place has a great menu but the food was just Ok and the service was slow.

I was here in January on a ski trip and there is a nice downtown area to grab some food.  We picked this place simply because a friend of mine that grew up in the area mentioned the extensive menu, I guess he and his wife go there often.  Its true the menu will satisfy anyone and there were a couple of good NFL playoff games on several TV's which made the place a little rowdy and fun.

I make sure to go to Macado's every time I'm in the area. I go for one reason: the Sherlock Holmes. I'm a fan. Isn't it sublime, cole slaw on sandwiches? You can't get that in the north; you just can't.

Yet, Macado's has one major weak point: the service is the pits. You'd think it would be a snap to make a sandwich, but it usually takes a good twenty minutes. I've visited other Macado's locations, and they're the same in that regard. On top of that, you won't get to see your server very often.

    Still, I keep coming back.

The brownies are divine. Ask them to heat it up for you.

Good sandwiches with a multitude of options for said sandwich. Lot's televisions with sports on them.

Awesome sandwich joint in the heart of Boone.  Went to ASU in the 90's and have always come back to Macados.  You'll be hard pressed to find a broader selection of deli sandwiches, plus a pretty comlpete menu outside of them.  Unique atmosphere (college town) and a great location.  Dietrich's Delight is my personal favorite, but have had many many sandwiches and never a bad experience.  Wings are also good, and cheap beer!!!

We ate here our first night back in the Boone area (for a mini-college reunion). We thought about getting it to-go, but the host guy said that the food would come out fast. Yeah, right! We ordered quickly (we had a 2 year old in tow). Toddler got antsy (it DID take quite a while for the food), so hubby had to walk around with him outside. We got the same sandwich: Gibson Girl- melted swiss, cheddar, muenster cheese, lettuce, and tomato on French bread with mayo and chips. We got our son a little mini cheese pizza. The good thing- this place is loud, so we weren't worried too much about our son talking loud. Full of students. It was good in a pinch.

I loved this place when I was an ASU student.  There is something for everyone on the menu, the desserts are tasty, and the prices are good even for a college student's budget.  The service is hit-or-miss, but the food is worth it.  Anytime I head back to Boone, I stop here...

I've been a fan of this place since the first time I ate here.  The menu is HUGE, with a little something for everyone.  They also have Killian's on tap, so that helps, it being one of my favorite beers.  The atmosphere is fun, loud and crazy, which is both a plus and a detriment.  At times, the place is simply too loud and crowded for you to enjoy your time there.  The staff is mostly college students who really couldn't give a crap less, but have always done their jobs acceptably upon each of my visits.  If you're looking for a fun, simple place to hang with friends, by all means, check out Macado's.

This place is utter shit! Seriously, I would rather dine or drink stuffed inside a moldy closet full of Oprah's dirty gym socks. I hate hate hate it here. Full of yuppies, fratties, and sorostitutes. Not mention the sandwiches are overpriced almost as much as the beer of which the selection is minimal. Now, I had been forced to go here on a couple occasions with some friends but that was because I had made some poor choices as to who to hang with back then (2005). I haven't been since '05 but why would I, or anyone who doesn't suck?

Loud environment!!! Sure to be a late night plan B for any student. If your into a sports bar scene this is the place to be during a late night in Boone. Menu is fairly large and diverse. I've always loved MacAdo's.

I think its the best restaurant in the Boone area.  Large menu.  The only drawback is that it only had one table large enough to sit the group I was with.
