I think until this last visit, I kind of had a block when it came to MacAdoo's. I mean, the first thing I think of is MEAT and since I'm not much of a meat eater, I don't think there's anything here for me. Sure, they have good sweet potato fries. But then what?
Then you go for breakfast, that's what!
We decided to take The Man here for a birthday breakfast. While it does kind of look like a dive, on my most recent visit, I realized I haven't given this place nearly enough credit. While it's not flashy or sleek, it's got it's very charming and fits perfectly into the town. They keep this place clean inside and out (love, love, love that!) which is very important. Of course, the big red flag can be the restroom. Oh no, not at MacAdoo's. They have a lovely and tacky-fun girly bathroom that was clean as a whistle.
I had a simple breakfast - two eggs over easy, toast, hashbrowns extra brown and bacon, extra crispy please. And by golly, my hashbrowns were extra brown and I had very crispy but not burnt bacon (you would THINK that it would be easy but many a greasy spoons get this terribly wrong.) The Man had a smoked salmon omelet to kick off the day and he really enjoyed it. My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew are already fans of MacAdoo's and fully expected their meals to be delicious.
OK, MacAdoo's, I figured out that we may not see eye-to-eye with all the meat (which is actually your appeal to everyone else) but I am die hard fan of your breakfasts.

Macadoo's is a MUST when we have out-of-town visitors. In fact, my folks demand pilgrimage. The bathrooms alone are enough for comment- the ladies' is an explosion of pink, feathers, beads and girliness.
The service is fast and friendly, everyone is delightful. They keep trivia cards, crayons and etch-a-sketches for amusement during one's short wait for food.
I usually get the Mac Chicken or the grilled veggie salad, and my husband loves their chili. Loves it. He was denied once on a particularly busy night, and I gotta say- he pouted.
Oh, yeah. You haven't experienced a true carbohydrate high until you try the sweet potato fries or the creamed corn fritters. No need for dessert, as it has come disguised as a side dish. But so worth it!

My husband and I took the kids to Macadoo's for lunch this weekend. We split the combo platter (ribs and pork) between us and an order of hush puppies. I found the ribs to be too fatty but the sauce (sweet and thick) was very good. The pork was excellent. Big, succulent hunks of meat in the same sweet sauce. The corn bread and slaw that came with it were okay but nothing special. But the hush puppies...dear Lord...they were insane. For $4.50 we were served an enormous bowl of them with a great spicy remoulade. They were crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside and incredibly flavorful. The serving size was so large we couldn't finish them. We finished with a brownie hot fudge sundae that was also so enormous that the four of us couldn't finish it. The brownies were rich and fudgy.

The service was very friendly and the place was very kid-friendly. They have Etch-a-Sketches for the kids and free candy at the counter.

MacAdoo's closed, and has been replaced by a nice coffee and pastry place called The Village Bakery.
