This is our hidden home away from home. Since discovering M Street Coffee, after driving by it a few times, I have been there as much as I possibly can.
Andrea and her girls are a really friendly group, and always make a mean latte.
The atmosphere is great. Open, lots of natural light, warm and inviting. After a while you start to see the "regulars" there everyday, because thats what kind of place it is.

I'm hoping one day, that their menu can be expanded on, since right now they are limited to muffins, bagels, cookies. - but who knows, maybe they don't have the set up.

All in all, great place to enjoy a coffee, meet up with friends, and work, since they have free wi-fi.

Dearest M Street Coffee,

I love absolutely everything about you - your luscious lattes, your cozy ambiance, your awesome art and friendly smiles as I walk in the door, and mostly your kind willingness to let me plop down, plug in and and tap tap tap away a morning...

Yes, I love everything about you, M Street Coffee, EXCEPT your unfortunate perishable inventory management (and your meager bagels; those bagels were clearly made by goyim).

When the Man and I stopped by at 9AM on a recent SUNDAY MORNING...you were out of orange juice. And breakfast wraps. I'm glad that they're popular enough that you run out, and man oh man do I love them, but now it's time to ORDER MORE. And no OJ on a Sunday? Is that even legal? There's only a 3-day window when I can even get the darn breakfast wraps each week...and this has been going on for months. Oh, and newsflash; you probably overorder on the tuna wraps.

I PROMISE to update this to more stars when you actually keep a breakfast wrap inventory through Monday, and there are no more unfortunate runs on orange juice...but until then, consider yourselves on breakfast wrap notice.

This is one of the friendliest coffee shops I've been to and it's almost across the street from where I live.

They also have a nice area to hang out in that's very relaxed, but I'm not one to lounge in coffee shops.

The coffee is decent, not great. This is a place you come to for the service and the ambiance, not the coffee.

Love, love, love this place.   Something about the energy I feel when I walk in the door.  I always want to stay but never have the time.  Completely addicted to the Pear, Apricot and Peach smoothie.  What in the world do they put in that thing ... mmmm, mmmm, mmmm ...

I'll keep this one short (famous last words, but I did say try).

Pros:
* LOTS of room -- the photos don't do it justice
* Exceptionally friendly service
* Pleasant clientele, with a few crazyass exceptions (better not to even get into it. But some people are so friendly they need to talk. And talk. And don't take hints. I'm all about the friendly, but only to a point).
* Easy street parking
* Always nice to support a non-corporate place.
* You can plug in your laptop and they're cool with it. Plus, wifi!
* You can shop for useless but pricey crap at the little store next door, which is super cute. The next time I need a housewarming gift, I'm there.
* The art on the wall (which ranges from pretty good to very crappy) changes frequently, which is at least a good distraction.

Now, to the cons. Not too many.
* The coffee's pretty good... but if you don't drink coffee or smoothies, you are kinda screwed. Went off the brown for a while and my choices consisted of a really bad ice blended (no, didn't try the smoothies, but those aren't my bag) and mostly ick tea options. Sorry, M, but there's a reason why people go to the corporate places -- sometimes it's better stuff and there are more choices. Not always, but in this case, yes.
* Hours are limited.

But really, a great place to hang. Just wish the coffee drink selection was longer and better, but when I go off coffee again, I'll just go elsewhere. But when I want to hang out or I'm ordering joe? M's the place.

I work on my own so I am always looking for a good coffee shop. I read the reviews on M Street and decided to check it out.

I went on a Saturday and easily found parking on the street. I ordered a Iced Vanilla Latte that was pretty good, a lil spicy, but good and had zucchini bread. The coffee shop has a really nice vibe to it playing some good alternative music. It has plenty of seating inside as well as outside.

Overall it's a really nice place to sit for hours at a time like i do.

Excellent coffee, comfy seating, rotating artwork, and friendly faces make M Street my new go-to coffee shop. That and the location is a 2-minute walk away.

So why not five stars? The hours are too short. They close at 6pm, and at 5pm on weekends. I expect that from my bank, but not from my favorite neighborhood coffee shop!

It's like so seriously not fair.  Why is it that all the cool coffee shops are located like totally for sure uber far away from my WeHo apartment?  I mean, hello?  Do I look like the type of girl who enjoys driving over the hill to the Valley on my Saturday afternoon just so I can write in the pleasing environs of a coffee shop?

Apparently, yes.

So I know I've made fun of the Valley in the past.  I may have composed some clacking throat noises and some guffaw-like laughter too.  And it is entirely possible that I also borrowed Cher's "ewww" line from Clueless when conversing about it.  In other words, I've been a bit of a snob (or as I prefer to say it, a judgy judgerson).

The thing is... I'm really not all that cool and picky like Cher.  I don't need a remote controlled closet and Bev Hills zip code to be happy.  I just need tasty beverages, free wifi, a clean bathroom, easy street parking, and chocolate.  Even though M Street Coffee is located in the "eww" Valley, it doesn't much matter to me because it delivers on all other counts.

My iced chai latte was all sorts of spicy (it even burned my throat a little!), and I was most pleasantly surprised by how extraordinarly nice everyone was there. The owner brought around complimentary segments of dark chocolate for everyone in the place, a group of hob nobbin' youngin's gave me the wifi password so I wouldn't have to get up and walk the ten feet to get it from the sweet counter girl who complimented me on my two-year-old Anthropologie top, and a rather gentlemanly bloke was courteous enough to tell me that my denim skirt was partially unzipped when I came out of the restroom.  Stuff like that sooo doesn't happen in LA!

Or maybe it does.  If one is willing to go over the hill to the Valley to find it.

What an adorable little place.! After gorging on delicious sushi for lunch, I was in the mood for an iced mocha and a comfy place to read my book. I had heard good things about M Street, and you, fellow Yelpers, did not steer me wrong.

The first thing I noticed was the cool clientele. Intellectual, artistic types that all looked friendly and full of compelling conversation. Original artwork adorns the walls, which currently includes a series of colorful paintings involving umbrellas. There's an ample amount of chairs and a snug sofa. There's also a swell coffee table with whole beans under glass, reminding one of a large microscopic slide.

The iced mocha I had can best be described as caffeinated rapture. The barista (I didn't catch her name) was really friendly and personable, and made my drink with haste. Parking is very easy in the adjoining neighborhood. They also have free Wi-Fi, with purchase. I will most assuredly be returning to this quaint bower of coffee delights.

Great organic latte with organic milk available. A bit pricey at $5.25 for a large iced vanilla latte with organic milk but well worth it. Don't expect it to move as fast as Starbucks though.

I hate giving this place a good review because there's already not always enough seating and I really should be encouraging you people to stay away...but my yelp ethic forbids such deception.  Le sigh.

Yeah, M Street is awesome.  Good coffee, ample free parking, awesome awesome staff, lots of outlets for us "I don't live in a manse with a home office" types.  The only reason it doesn't get five stars is because there's not enough food selections.  There's a lot of snacks, but the only lunch stuff they have are a small selection of wraps--which are supposedly okay, but they only sell 2 or 3 kinds and they're all spicy, which I don't like and also doesn't go with coffee really well.

But I love M.  Gimme another choice of sandwich and stay open later than 6 pm and I just may set up a cot.

I love coming to M Street Cafe.
It's now become the last stop for Lucy (my pup) and I during our long walks.
Lucy gets a refreshing bowl of water (that they always have ready outside) and I get my fave matcha green tea latte- as rewards, yay!
The ladies working at the counter are extremely friendly- especially Andrea
Also, very important to note that the cost of their lattes is lower than Starbucks or Coffee Bean.
I love the warm, cozy atmosphere, the smiling faces of the staff and that it has that small neighborhood coffee-shop feel.

My friend brought me here for a meeting around three weeks ago and I was enthralled by what I found: cozy cafe, free wifi, moderately priced cafe americano and delicious bagels. Also, you can't beat the always-smiling staff.

I couldn't believe a place like this was in the Valley considering this region of LA is usually comprised of Starbucks and Panera. This place doesn't have a parking lot, but street parking has been great the few times I've been here. The Valley needs more of these spots East, West and North.

We are talking GREAT coffee and teas here, and a cool neighborhood vibe (yeah, MY neighborhood). Friendliest staff of any coffee house I've visited, and with good recommendations. Without the pretentiousness and pushiness of the crowd at either of the local Starbucks (Ventura Blvd).

Oh and biscotti that rocks the house!

I was hesitant to give it 5 stars on the basis of the wi-fi never seems to work when I am there; but M street redeems itself with friendly service which includes excellent baked goods. I sampled a gingerbreak latte back in the holiday season, and I was rather impressed. The regular coffee is delish, and fair trade I do believe.

The seating is friendly, and the free paper selection is top notch. My other qualm: the early closing hours. But you should check it out-the baristas alone make me grin.

Have you ever wanted to start your own coffee shop because you live in the Valley and can't find one that blends organic, urban and independent?

Yep, me too - that is, until we found M Street Coffee. As soon as you walk in you see Swiss Process Decaf, agave, organic Coffee and organic milk! (To be honest, I was pissed when Starbucks discontinued their organic milk option.) I felt like I was home! I didn't like the early closing hours, which is why I gave 4 stars.

However wood floors, giant cookies, local art, and a copy of "The Onion" satirical newspaper make it almost perfect. Good times! Also, the raised second floor gives a nice separation between commerce and conversation.

This place really great! It's kinda like every other coffee shop that's not a Starbucks or Coffee Bean, but with art, couches, and free wifi. I would come here again if I need a quiet place with coffee; other than that, I probably won't be back. The one thing that I did like, was that they did sponsor local artists.

Relaxing ambiance (it's generally pretty quiet) courteous staff, good coffee, tasty treats.  AND they have the Onion!  There is no on-site parking, but there's usually a space or two available on the street.

Finally, a laid-back neighborhood coffee shop.  There is a dearth of these in the valley for some reason.  If you like to support local independent businesses, M Street would be a good place to start.

Great lighting w/ quiet music.  Andrea (owner/manager?) was extremely friendly.  Only about 7 tables & a couch inside w/ 8 outdoor chairs, but the free wireless internet is key.

I live in Boston, but if I lived in the area I'd be here every week & might not yelp about it, so I'd be guaranteed a seat.  That should tell you something.

Oh, and very good coffee.  $1.50 for a cup, though no ceramic mugs, which always make me feel better about life.  As someone who formerly had to teach coffee/barista stuff, I more appreciated that Andrea had an understanding of the coffee source and cared about her products.

A solid 4 stars.  Go here and bring your friends!

This is hands down the best coffee shop in the valley, if not the entire city. And it's not just the great coffee -- it's the entire experience. I come here several times a week and I've come to know the staff and regulars. There's an amazing community growing here, and I encourage everyone to stop by and check it out at least once. The free wifi is also a great perk, and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have a Facebook page and a Twitter account, too, so you can stay up on events like art openings and live music performances. The staff is super friendly -- Andrea, Kate, Jessica, Brianna -- really nice, cheerful, wonderful people. Just go here already!!

I really liked the look and feel of this establishment as soon as I walked in. Everyone was really nice and the place has a cool vibe. They also had a fairly good assortment of baked goods, but I decided to go with some biscotti instead. They don't have glass mugs here, only the to-go cups, but that's ok. After the first sip of my latte, I'll be honest, I thought I was in trouble. It was really quite bad. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and re-commenced my drinking and the latte, as they sometimes do, became good again. I still wasn't too big a fan of the flavor, but some of the bite came out of it. Good local place.

M Street Coffee is a refreshing retreat in the valley just a few blocks from the often chaotic rush of Ventura Blvd. The large windows let in room-brightening rays of sunshine that lend an open atmosphere to the cafe.

Perhaps the reason I like this cafe is because everything is easy and convenient from the very first visit. Street parking is actually available, the menuboards are in a large font and simple to understand, and plenty of tables are available. Add on to that the personable service and a solid offering of organic coffees, teas, and pastries and I'm hooked.

Call me borderline obsessive compulsive, but I love that the condiments are located atop the bar where I can easily find them and a small collection of free papers(LA Weekly, The Onion) are directly beneath them to quickly grab after fixing my ecofriendly takeaway drink.

The minimalist earthy design feels clean and inviting. Wood floors below with light coffee colored walls and Ikea-esque furniture adorned with small fake wheat grass plants complete the relaxing vibe.

M Street is also a gallery with local works from area artists which I'm looking forward to seeing more of. There's usually always someone hacking away at their laptop or an informal business meeting taking place on the large couch.

Just a regular cup of organic joe is smooth, or a matcha green tea latte is a naturally sweet alternative. The honey raisin bran muffin is one of my favorites, it's dense moist mass best devoured with a fork. The pumpkin muffin is average and a bit dry and crumbly to the touch.

My only qualm with M Street, which will soon be remedied according to staff, is their relatively short hours. At present, they're only open to 6pm weekdays, 5pm Saturdays. With customers buying product up till closing time, that should sound loud and clear that M Street has enough clientele to be open at least a bit later.

I'm extremely thrilled to have a new local indie coffeehouse in Sherman Oaks.  Local amenities are so important, especially those locals can walk to.  They have WiFi and in fact, I'm writing this review using the free service (tip: ask at the counter for the password).

I am excited to have a new coffee shop in my 'hood. M Street Coffee only opened up a short while ago but I have begun to frequent the place.

The store itself has a very clean, open and modern feel to it. There are many small tables and there are usually one or two writers there. There is a very comfortable couch with a coffee table in front of it.

The manager, Andrea, is a very friendly blond who will get to know you by the second time you've come in. Service is good, but don't expect your drink to come as quickly as Starbucks as there is only one or two people working at a time.

The coffee is quite good... much better than most of the local options. I am talking about American coffee here, not any specialty drinks, because that is what I order 90% of the time. That is the problem with many of the local coffee shops -- they may have a great environment but they don't have great coffee (I'm talking about you, Lulu's [Update: went to Lulu's for the first time in a while -- they've really screwed up the seating there]). M Street is a great place to relax and enjoy a book. The only downside is that their pastry / cookie section is very limited, although what they have is quality.

I will continue to patronize M Street Coffee, whether I am working on a good book, some writing, or meeting a friend.

Addition 7/08: Still a regular at M Street! Since I started coming here, another of the barristas (Kate, the redhead) has turned me on to Cafe Cubano -- an Americano with the sugar packed in with the espresso. It's really fantastic! They have also had a few gallery openings for artists and photographers that have been fun.

A great little organic coffee retreat! I appreciate the clean, simple, and spacious interior. The artwork on the walls are interesting and are actual artwork of local artists. They have free wifi and the music playing in the background is always nice.

I fell in love with the Spicy Tuna Wrap and actually became addicted to it. I'd go back to just have the wrap. The staff were nice and always offered me a small side of ranch dressing to go along with it. Yummy.

Wish they stayed open later so I can go hang out after work in the evenings.

Finally, after living in this 'hood for five years, do we have our local coffee joint.  I'm not a coffee connoisseur by any means, but I enjoyed my latte.  The place is comfortable, mostly tables and chairs but one big couch.  Only one table outside, I suspect that would change when the weather is better.

The manager Andrea was very nice.  They just opened two weeks ago and still didn't have their baked goods, which was a bummer since I went for breakfast, but she was expecting to start serving them today.  They also have a big smoothie menu, everything appeared to be organic.

Good alternative to Starbucks. I will be back.

I really enjoy coming to this place. As a student, it's nice to find somewhere where you can study with just the right amount of noise. Plus, the baristas here are the friendliest people on the West Coast and they don't seem to mind how long you stay. The drinks are good, music is good, vibe is good, people are good, so I can't complain about anything. And free wi-fi sweetens the deal. 5 stars!

I love M Street!  I originally decided to check it out because they support my kids' school, but I fell in love with the atmosphere, the coffees, the people who work there... It's my favorite spot to meet friends and business associates, PLUS there is a barista who always gives me amazing dinner ideas (just a value-added bonus, I'm sure!).  The crema on the Americano is To. Die. For. I dream about it.  I'd love it if they offered more lunchy items, but their wraps are great.   And, to make it all even better, it is an alternative to all the coffee chains.  This is the kind of place I thought would only exist in Seattle...

Everything about this place is great, most importantly though, they are one of the only places around that actually knows how to make a perfect espresso. Espresso here is never burnt, and it is always reliably delicious. They have the best quality ingredients for all their drinks while still having comparable prices to places like Starbucks. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. If you aren't into coffee, they have amazing Teas, from simple black or green, to imaginative blends, Tea Lattes or great Chai Lattes. They even have almond milk.  And for the Yoga lovers, there's a Yoga studio right upstairs. This is a quality coffee shop that no one should miss. For someone like me who is a coffee snob (and a picky one at that) this is my number one pick for the best Valley coffee.

This is a really attractive, quiet, artistic cafe right next door to the Finland Spa near Fulton and Moorpark. It is painted in restful tones of pale green and tan, with nicely framed photographs hanging on the walls.  There seems to be quite a few writers or people emulating writing, sitting around with laptops.

I had a chocolate scone, and unfortunately I have to say it was pretty awful.  I hope that their future food offerings will improve, but at $2.95 it was an expensive letdown.

There is also a gift shop attached to the cafe, offering a place for all the unemployed writers and actors in the neighborhood to spend their disposable income.

I used Yelp to try to find an alternative to the internet cafe franchise I was using and was so relieved to find M Street.

It's heaps accessible with easy parking, stable internet, uber-friendly baristas, great Matcha tea, fantastic espresso, and they're the only place I've been to that carries mascavo sugar.

I've enjoyed some of the after hours arts evenings as well meeting local artists and sipping some wine.

It's become my local haunt. Enjoy.

My family and I love this cafe.

We meet there 2-3 times a week...open it up at 7 am.

Very kid friendly...with books to read and a comfortable couch.

Baristas are wonderful...love the matcha green tea.

Thank you for all!

The thing about independent coffee shops in Los Angeles, is that they have to have courage. Now this can usually go to the head of the owner, knowing that with all that is at stake they must create an amazing place to come get coffee. That is usually mistake number one, the idea that a someone will mastermind the creation of something entirely unique in the coffee world. HA, it can't be willed, that happens only through some omni-conscious god like luck.
However even in Los Angeles, where everyone is trying to be special. A place opens up that just wants to make good coffee, and let there customers enjoy it. Rare. I have been to coffee shops all over this city, i even go to Starbucks because they have New York Times. Most places try and shove something other then coffee down your throat.
The best places i have ever been in this world for coffee are cliched and naturally well lit.
M Street Coffee is one of these places. So go, sit back with one of Kate's Cappucinos, listen to the wonderfully stereotypical cafe music, check your email with the free wi-fi, and enjoy the fact that your sitting in a place that wants nothing from you, except you simply enjoy your self.
