There's a few reviews for the ship & its two smaller ships that sail around
Lake Winnipesaukee, but this review if just for the M/S Mount Washington & its dinner cruises.
Tried the Lobsterfest Cruise, thought nothing better than a sail around the lake while dinning on my favorite crustacean. The food is not prepared on the ship. The food was good. Nothing special. It included the lobster, corn on the cob, chicken, desert & some things I honestly just don't remember. Service is buffet. My only complaint would be that the dinner service started & was completed before the boat even took off.
Meal Capacity Banquet - Up to 650 & reception up to 1000. This no small booze cruise this is a 230 foot ship. Four decks, inside & outside seating, two bars & three dance floors. Drinks small & expensive, try to stick with beer or wine if you can. $50.00 per person includes the food & the cruise.

My husband and I were not in a "cruise" mood the day we went on the long cruise around the lake with his parents on our Fall 08 Foliage Tour, but his parents wanted to go, so we went. This rating is for the long cruise ride.

We were more in the mood to walk around and be active, which the cruise does not encourage. It encourages lots of sitting and being lulled into a dull state of fatigue on a rainy, cool day. The old guy singing in the main area didn't help make it more enjoyable. The older ladies in the crowd seemed to be having a good time, though.

Other things to pass the time - other than gazing at the scenery - include eating. The buffet for the tour buses did smell and look good, but we were stuck with hot dogs, pretzels or cookies for food options.

Had it been a sunny day, we'd have been outside on the top deck and walked around more. It was fun standing outside the captain's area, watching the boat dock and take off again.

The last time I was on this lake was 1989, and I ripped up my back attempting to water ski :-)  So perhaps a sedentary cruise was better for my health.

I think the mailboat cruise would be much more fun.

Mount Washington has some bigger cruises, but this little mailboat appeals to me.

What a splendid way to spend an afternoon, sailing on lake W delivering mail to the little camps sprinkled throughout the woods.  I went on the last run this year so all the people at the camps were feeling some separation anxiety.  It was really sweet, though.  At one camp, the kids had written messages to Sophie's captain and crew on pieces of birch bark and held them up on sticks as we pulled up to the dock.  At the YMCA boys' camp, kids were gone, but the group of men counsellors all sang a cheer to Sophie as we pulled away (did I say there were no kids there???), free ice cream on this last run for everyone.  Dog bones for all the scrappy dogs wagging their tails and waiting on the docks.   Friendly, knowledgeable crew, Great experience.

From their website:

"The Motor Vessel (M/V) Sophie C., is the oldest floating post office in the United States. Each season she provides mail service on the lake, a tradition dating back to 1892. Both of Sophie's daily mail runs takes her to 5 islands where her staff delivers mail to the island residents and summer camps. In addition to being a full-service post office where these residents may purchase postal supplies and stamps, Sophie also has a collection of ice cream novelty treats and snacks for sale. A daily ice cream bar or popsicle has become quite a summer tradition for her island friends. Passengers aboard the Sophie C. are invited to fill out Sophie C. postcards and mail them right on board. Perhaps you can surprise a friend or relative with mail sent from a boat, complete with Sophie's own unique, collectible cancellation stamp!"

I sent several postcards and I suspect they are being treasured by their recipients.  The one I sent to me certainly is.
